know the back of my land. they have a heat watch and a heat warning post also south and west down toward philly. today it is going to warm quickly to about 90. it is going to feel like 100 talk about that flexion. it is weather then heather. >> we have long island metro north, no major issue with transit. subways are doing okay. the 5 trains are dealing with the signal problems. route 17 all lanes are closed on 17 as you go southbound. they are diverted off because of this construction project. as you travel on to 80 as you go westbound near exit 62 two lanes had closed down as a result of that. we have alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect for today. over to you. dramatic fire. overnight in the bronx at least nine people have been hurt, including three firefighters. one man jumped from a window to escape the flames. he suffered the most serious of the injuries. the firefighter suffered minor injuries as well. fire broke out inside the apartments on east 202nd street around 23:04 morning. 30 people have been displaced in this. the cause is under investigation but right now it does not appear suspicious. a man on a mission tried to scale trump tower at the height of the evening rush. the dramatic moment caught on camera as police grabbed him and pulled him to safety. it was watched by tens of thousands of people on the ground and online and on the air. eyewitness news reporter darla miles is live withhe for us. carla? >> reporter: you know that climber got a lot wearing than a lot of people would have imagined yesterday. as a result you still see an nypd presence here at trump tower and obviously today there will be presumably repairs to repair the window and grate that were removed. this morning we are still waiting for the nypd to identify the climber who spent more than two and a half hours from virginia and he had multiple forms of id, which is why the nypd is still trying to identify him. we are learning this morning that steve took his parents' car, drove to new york tuesday evening, stayed the night at a hoe tell in the bowery and then arrived at trump power just after 3:00 p.m. with his suction -- hotel in the bowery, and then arrived at with his suction cups. after all the drama it only took 10 seconds for a member to yank him inside. >> perfect time to present itself. when i felt it was safe for him and myself and my crew, when it presented itself, i reached out and took hold of his hand and said sir you need to come with me and i brought him inside with the help of my partner. >> reporter: now the nypd says this climber, steve from 1- minute video on youtube tuesday before he drove his parents' car here, explaining why he was climbing trump tower, that he wanted to get donald trump's attention and he was hoping to have a private meeting with him. police say as he was scaling trump tower wednesday afternoon he dropped flyers from his backpack making reference to the youtube video. but this morning steve from virginia is at bellevue undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. have not yet been determined. darla miles channel 7 eyewitness news. 4:35. and new this morning, first glimpse of the predator who targeted a 12-year-old girl on a bronx elevator. police released the sketch overnight. investigators say this man threatened to large the little girl if she did not follow him off an elevator and into a stairwell at 175th street and walton avenue last month. instead she ran and banged on police say he is slim, about 20 years old. $160,000 and climbing. the reward fund to catch katrina vetrano's siller is going up this morning. there is now a new strategy underway to track down the killer. eyewitness news reporter diana rocco is live now from howard beach, diana? >> reporter: rob good morning. the command post is still up out here. more than a week later police every lead. they are now asking for voluntary dna samples. meanwhile karina's parents are hoping someone will come forward with information. the gofundme page is a big part of it. it is now topping $163,000. it was put up a little more than $23,000 ago. the donations have been pouring in from all over the country and the world. karina was murdered last tuesday while out for a jog a few hours later off the running trail. she was face down. police believe her murder was random and they are now asking some of the homeless in the area for voluntary dna samples. karina's parents say they will not rest until their daughter's killer was found. >> they are tracking everything down. what we need, we need for someone to say hello, i know the guy. that is what we are looking for. if i wake up and there is nothing for me to do, that is when the bottom is going to drop out. to stay involved every day, in every way. today it's this. this is keeping me alive today. >> reporter: some of that money from the gofundme page will serve as reward money, according to karina's parents for information leading to a conviction of whoever killed their daughter. people in this area have been calling for additional security 7 eyewitness news. thank you diana? in other news police in nassau county are trying to track down a boater that left's woman badly hurt. police released this sketch. it happened in reynolds channel where the speed is just 5 miles per hour. police say the man was speeding in a boat that looked like the one you see there when he crashed into the back of another boat injuring the 50- year-old woman. the woman was take hospital. the clean up will resume on long island this morning, where a weak tornado touched down in suffolk county. accu-weather and the national weather service confirmed an ef- 0 twister hit. the storms caused flooding and drivers were forced to navigate their pockets of standing water. in connecticut another small tornado brought down trees in new haven. the national weather service says the trees fell on power on cars. the tornado left a path of damage about 2 explosion sparked a massive fire in an apartment building. video shows flames tearing through the building in silver spring just before midnight as firefighters rescued people out of the burning building. eyewitnesses say they heard a loud boom just before the fire broke out. as many as 25 people including firefighters have been hurt. the blaze has been placed under control. stay with eyewitness news for updates. a grief stricken this morning after the sudden passing of john saunders at 61 years of age. saunders was with earliest days. that is nearly three decades. he covered everything college football, basketball. the nhl. he hosted sports center. reaction has been both heartfelt from viewers and hard to right this. john saunders has died. he was an amazing man in many ways. thinking of his family. a kansas water pike road where a 10-year-old boy was killed passed a private insurance inspection as recently as early june. now the boy's funeral is tomorrow. the associated press reports the child was decap tate in the accident but authorities have it happened. the child was held in place by velcro style straps. the material isn't designed to keep a person in a seat and it degrades with use. a quick thinking robbery victim cornered a crook inside a bank until the cops showed up. it all happened at a chase bank in patterson yesterday. the suspect approached the victim at the atm and demanded his bank card. but the victim turned things around and locked up the in the vestibule. he kept him trapped inside until police arrived. well done. let's check in hours on friday. hot weather right through the weekend and with that heat can't rule out a scattered shower or thunderstorm. tonight is muggy, low 78. tomorrow hotter, 92 and the real feel 100 to 105. video stomping a suspect in the head has been fired. officer joel edward was convicted in the assault case of coffee in brooklyn. edward was then sentenced to two years probation. happening today the federal government is expected to announce it will expand its research into marijuana. announcement in response to a petition filed by two former governors five years ago. the petition called on federal agencies to reclassify marijuana as a drug with medical uses. sources say the government has no immediate plans to loosen the classification of marijuana as a dangerous drug with no medical use. 4:51. happening today mayor de blasio is expected to sign a bill into law requiring public buildings provide lactation rooms for new mothers. job centers snap centers and the city-owned offices for the administration for children's services must make one lactation room available to women using on site services. the room must have a chair, an outlet and access to running water. it cannot posted this video to youtube. it is 1-minute long and essentially said he was coming to new york city to get donald trump's attention so that he could meet with the republican >> that youtube video explains that he is an independent researcher and he wanted to meet with him and that is the reason why he was climbing this building. at no time did he express he wanted to hurt anyone. his sole intention was to meet with mr. trump. >> reporter: i wanted to show you a live look at trump tower. there is an nypd presence here. lots of repairs obviously will take place to the windows and during yesterday's recovery operation and the district attorney will work with bellevue on any possible charges. darla miles channel 7 eyewitness news. police released images of a man wanted for raping a woman in queens. this man approached the 52-year- old victim at flower karaoke in flushing last month. after talking for two hours police say he raped her inside a rented room at the karaoke lounge. crime stoppers. several people remain hospitalized after a snoop dog concert on long island. fifty people were treated for alcohol poisoning at jones beach amphitheater. 75 were arrested for underage drinking, driving while intoxicated and illegal drug use. police patrolling the beach and concert venues say part of the problem here is insufficient 10,000 concert goers who were there. >> we need to hire more police officers. we are running at around 50% of our authorized strength and that is just unacceptable. >> reporter: three people remain in the icu at the hospital. an 18-year-old is listed in serious condition after hitting his head while intoxicated. two big concerts are set at 5:06. the white house is not commenting on donald trump's claims that he terror group isis actually honors the nypd to confirm the identity of this climber who spent two and a half hours scaling trump tower. on his way up he only said his name was steve from virginia. this he said to officers before he tried -- who tried to intercept him. this 1-year-old climber actually took his parents' car, according to the nypd, drove up to new york, spent the night at in the bowery and set south to scale trump tower around 3:00. it only took about 10 seconds to yank the 19-year-old back inside the window and i was waiting for the perfect time. when i felt it was safe for him and myself and my crew. when it presented itself, i reached out and took hold of his hand and i said sir you need to come with me and >> the 19-year-old actually posted this 1-minute video on youtube tuesday afternoon before he took his parents' car and drove here to new york. it simply explained he wanted to meet with donald trump, that he had an important matter to discuss with him. and he had flyers pointing to the youtube are expected to be okay. the victims know the suspect and they are searching for him. police in nassau county are trying to track down the boater involved in a hit and run crash that left a woman badly injured. investigators released a sketch of the boater in sunday morning's crash. it happened in rey where the speed is 5 miles per hour. police say the man was speeding in a boated that looked like the one there when he crashed into the back of another boat, injuring the 50-year-old mother. the man took off toward ocean side. the man was taken to the hospital. there is an outpouring of weather service have confirmed an ef-0 tornado caused damage to trees in the area. in a few areas vehicles had to drive through standing water. and in connecticut another small tornado brought down trees in north lane. the national weather service says the trees fell on power lines and on cars as well. the tornado left a path of damage about 2 miles long. no injuries, thankfully, were reported.
