tonight students are being warned to be vigilant. both of those incidents happened just 20 minutes apart in the same area on escondido road. ktvu azenith smith is live with the latest. azenith, both women in these cases describe the same suspect? >> reporter: police tell me they are reinterviewing the women. give these a-- given these assaults happened right in front of the dorms. >> reporter: police are making their presence known near escondido road following two groping incidents on campus friday night. >> it's always pretty horrible to hear about. and i know it because i live right down there happening pretty close too. >> reporter: the sophomore lives near this place. the suspect is still on the loose. >> it's a little scary thinking they could be just like a student in one of my classes. like you never know. >> reporter: police have released limited information about the assaults. their first one happened friday night at 10:40 in the evening on escondido road. a man groped a woman while walking. the suspect is described as a bald white man approximately five feet six inches tall. then 20 minutes later a second assault a few blocks away. the victim a female jogging. the suspect had a similar description, but was wearing different clothes. police have not said if it is the same man. >> i just think it is interesting both descriptions are similar. >> whenever i hear anything like that happening on stanford's campus, i immediately get frustrated and i'm tired. >> reporter: receive fee founded the sexual assault pre- - stephanie founded the sexual assault prevention group. >> i have gotten many e-mails regarding groping incidents or sexual batteries on campus. and i think therefore it's a problem that has yet to be addressed. >> reporter: university police say they are talking to the victims to get an age range of the suspect. in the meantime police advise students to play it safe. to walk -- to never walk alone at night. >> for people to be more knowledgeable and aware of these kinds of events. i think it's the first step. >> reporter: police are encouraging students to use roads with these blue emergency safety towers, so if they need to they can call 911. police are working with the victims to possibly provide a sketch of the suspect and we'll provide that to you if and when that becomes available. >> definitely good advice, azenith. the two women involved, do we know if they are stanford students? >> reporter: that is the first question i asked university police tonight and they tell me they are still looking into it. if and how they are affiliated with the school. >> all right, azenith smith reporting live from stanford, thank you so much. the islamic state says it was behind bomb attacks on two christian churches in egypt, which have killed at least 37 people and injured more than 100. the first explosion happened about 70 miles north of cairo killing at least 26 worshipers at the coptic church. pope francis due to visit in egypt at the end of the month was quick to condemn the attack during his palm sunday service at the vatican. >> reporter: to the whole beloved egyptian nation, i express my deep condolences. i pray for the dead and for the injured. >> not soon after the pope made his comments another attack in the coastal city of alexandria. a suicide bomber detonated his device in front of st. marks church when police stopped him from storming the entrance. president trump condemning the attack saying, "so sad to hear the terrorist attacks in egypt. u.s. strongly condemns. i have great confidence president el-sissi will handle the situation properly." bay area activists marched across the golden gate bridge today. they protested in response to the deadly chemical attack on syrian citizens. demonstrators would walk into the middle of the span urging drivers to honk for peace. they question america's involvement in syria and they want to know the trump administration's long-term strategy. they also called on the u.s. to offer sanctuary for immigrants and refugees. well reaction from the syrian community here in the bay area to the u.s. strikes has been mostly positive. a syrian american woman who lives in foster city told us she believes president trump made the right decision. the 27-year-old graduate student said it was painful to see those images of young innocent people killed in a chemical attack by the syrian people while expressing gratitude towards president trump. it is also bittersweet. >> at the same time i was afraid because it is never an easy thing to tell somebody to come bomb my country. it's not what you would want ever. >> they called the missile strike a necessary step to combat the syrian government led by president bashar assad. in the meantime lawmakers are questioning what role america should play in syria's six-year civil war. it remains a major topic of conversation as secretary of state rex tillerson heads to russia. >> reporter: the u.s. struck again in syria, the message from president trump's national security advisor mcmaster. if the syrian government uses chemical weapons again on their own people. >> the president will make whatever decision he thinks is within the best interest of the american people. >> the situation of syria is complicated. they are locked in a civil war with the russian-supported president bashar al assad. but despite some earlier mixed signals, taking up the terrorist army seems to remain the main priority for the trump administration. thursday the u.s. launched 59 tomahawk cruise missiles at a syrian air base. some congressional lawmakers are now calling on the president to coordinate with them on any future military action in the country. >> there is going to be a use of force on a continual basis. >> senators like lindsey graham disagrees. >> he has an opposition to use force. and there is an agreement with him not to use chemical weapons. >> reporter: secretary of state rex tillerson is the first member of the trump administration to step foot in russia this week. expect syria to remain a top priority. president trump spoke from air force one today from the two navy destroyers who launched into syria on thursday. mr. trump thanks both commanders of the u.s.s. porter and commander russell caldwell of the u.s.s. ross and their crews for their professionalism and quick response to orders to launch the attack. the air strike in syria has triggered a spike in gas prices here in the u.s. prices at the pump are up $0.09 nationwide and expected to climb even higher. ktvu leigh martinez talked to drivers about the impact. >> reporter: for the past two weeks prices at the pumps started going up. >> and i started paying more. at the end of the day you're usually paying $30. >> reporter: rojas says there is a number he's afraid of. >> once it gets to the $50 range, you know, then i will be filling up every four days. >> reporter: increased oil prices and last week's missile attack on syria caused gas prices to go up $0.09. erica byers commutes to school and noticed she is no longer paying the usual $2.50 a gallon. >> if we go up to $3.50, $4, then i don't know what i'm going to do because i have a car note, i'm in school, and then you need to pay gas. so i might as well just take the car away. >> reporter: she takes night classes at cal east bay and doesn't feel safe taking the bart at night, so she will cut back on using her car from anything other than transportation. >> no spring break for me, no, i'm just in school. so i don't know. from a student perspective you need a car. >> reporter: and now california needs to consider paying more come november. the state legislature on thursday approved a state gas tax that'll raise the gas tax. >> i'm all for it and i'm happy to pay for the energy that i use to encourage me to ride my bike more, to use low carbon emission. and actually better citizens. >> reporter: the gas tax will be used to improve the roads. >> it's unsafe on two wheels verses four to hit objects in the roads, right? and so i have noticed that my onramps in emeryville or oakland, they've been bumpier with bigger holes. we need to be more road aware, which makes me less car aware. so it is a safety issue for motorcycles. >> reporter: for some drivers who have no choice, but a long commute ahead of them, they say they will have to sacrifice something else besides driving to afford the new fuel costs. now it's been 23 years since the state of california raised its gas tax. but drivers will also see a new annual vehicle fee to help with the improvements on the road. in berkeley leigh martinez ktvu fox 2 news. at last check a barge that capsized early friday morning south of the bay bridge is still there. crews are monitoring the 120- foot long vessel to make sure no fuel or oil continues to leak out of it. so far the coast guard and other officials say there is no threat to wildlife. they've seen minimal diesel fuel on the water. you can see it in these pictures. the vessel is capable of carrying 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 300 gallons of hydraulic fuel. still no arrests in the first homicide of the year. officers found the man inside the car in the parking lot of a grocery store on newark boulevard at 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the unidentified man had been shot. it's not clear what led up to the killing, but police believe the victim may have been targeted. police have not released any information about a possible suspect. the chp released more details today about a drive-by shooting yesterday in the east bay in which a panhandler was injured. investigators say the woman was with another panhandler and was shot in the leg about 3:30 yesterday afternoon on highway 4 near the lone tree way offramp in antioch. she was taken to a hospital, treated, then released. the other person was not hurt. as we have been reporting, there has been an increase in highway shootings here in the bay area. most of them gang related. and it is not known what led up to yesterday's shooting. coming up, a look at the potential effects neil gorsuch will have after he is sworn in tomorrow to the u.s. supreme court. controversial cases the court could hear this fall. but first looking for justice a. desperate plea from a widow one -- justice, a desperate plea from a widow one year after her husband was shot. less than an unusual rescue for some firefighters in alameda county. the happy ending for these ducklings. >> that's so cute. >> and it was all caught on camera. the dow chemical facility in the pittsburg antioch area. and then those last two tests will be about 30 minutes apart starting at 6:30 tomorrow night around the phillips 66 refinery in the the rodeo area. and then at the chevron refinery in the richmond san pablo area. during the test, the system will send alerts to land phone lines as well as cell phones via text message and e-mail to residents registered with the county's community warning system. it's been a year since a former nasa researcher was shot dead as he walked to -- walks to his oakland home. henry lee reports there is new surveillance video and pictures in the hunt for his killer. >> reporter: after a night out with friends, 30-year-old brian boll left the king fish bar north oakland walking nearly two miles and only yards from his oakland home when she was shot in the head and killed. when police found his body, his wallet and other items were still on him. >> it could have been a robbery gone wrong, where maybe there was no intention to actually kill brian. maybe the intention was to rob him. something happened. >> reporter: oakland police sergeant leo sanchez the lead investigator says the motive is still unclear, but police do know the route he took home and released video of a person in a car that could be linked to the killing on april 10, 2016. this video shows a man police say could be a witness or a person of interest. he's wearing a reflective jacket on his cell phone while walking north on broadway near piedmont avenue. at this very moment, boll is walking south on broadway. >> this individual we believe with the timing was one of the last individuals to see brian alive. >> these are pictures of a chevy malibu seen near broadway and piedmont. sergeant brian bolls was walking on this street of the street, right? >> that's correct. >> now we're approaching the corner of broadway and piedmont. what happens here? >> so you make a left, he turns left and starts walking northbound on piedmont and at which time the same time the individual in the reflective jacket is walking northbound piedmont just seconds behind brian. >> this is the same corner we see that white chevy malibu turning onto piedmont? >> that's correct. the chevy malibu, and they are all going northbound on piedmont. >> reporter: and richmond boulevard where boll was shot dead is around the corner from that intersection. and police say it is not clear if the man in the jacket is connected to the white car. his widow visited the site where her husband was killed. he worked as a scientist and was a former nasa contractor. he had a ph.d. in electrical engineering from georgia tech. >> he is very intelligent and very curious. he approached the world in a difference of wonder. he was much more interested in learning other peoples stories than to tell his own. >> reporter: she says she wants to see justice and hopes anyone with information will come forward. >> if they know anything to please share it, to see themselves in the situation. it could have been their brother, their friend, their loved one. >> reporter: there's a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. in oakland henry lee ktvu fox 2 news. a marin county sheriff deputy was injured this morning after a suspected drunk driver hit his patrol car head on. it happened in mill valley right in front of the fireside inn. the other driver lost control around a curb and then instruct deputy's vehicle. that deputy went to the hospital with minor injuries. 34-year-old justin sadderfield in mill valley was arrested on suspicion of dui. one person was killed in a multi-car crash on interstate 280 in san jose last night. it happened right here as one of the cars overturned and burst into flames. >> this is a rather spectacular collision. on both sides of the freeway. many people did go to the driver of the honda and tried to get him out of the vehicle. >> they said the driver of the lexus t1-year-old jerry tram and his passenger were both taken to the hospital. both are expected to survive. he was arrested on suspicion of dui. >> yeah, even some snowfall as well. 37 inches of the snowfall with some fresh powder in the -- sierra. we are tracking the weather system to the north. you can see the rain showers right around eureka as it will fall apart over the next few hours. still enough moisture and the clouds first thing tomorrow morning. then a chance of just a few sprinkles out there, but that's where the rainfall is focused out to the north. we will check in on the current numbers for your 10:00 49. speaking of san francisco, a beautiful view here looking out towards the bay bridge, for your sunday night. so we are in the clear and we could have some patchy fog resurface over the next few hours and some higher clouds. the higher clouds will move never the north first thing tomorrow morning. the projected lows, a lot of 40s out there. san francisco 49. livermore 42. and napa is starting out the day in the cool 40s as well right around 42 degrees to start out your monday. and so here is the plan our sky cast is showing you this. mostly cloudy skies with the sprinkles out there or some areas of drizzle and enough to trigger the windshield wipers tomorrow morning. and then a sudden cloud mix by the afternoon hours, 60 degrees, partly cloudy skies by 3:00. 61, looking pretty good during the afternoon hours. here is your forecast model showing you the clouds and just a little bit of some green showing up here, so this could be enough to wet your roadways especially in the north bay. but to even see the drizzle for san francisco and out towards pacifica. and then into the afternoon hours, we will scale back on the clouds somewhat leaving us with partly cloudy skies throughout the rest of your day on monday. i'm tracking a stronger storm offshore that could impact the bay area later on in the week. we will break down the timing on that system coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, mark. alameda county firefighters were able to help out this weekend with a rather unusual rescue. and a cute one. they pulled 11 ducklings from the storm drain in newark. and they put them in a five gallon bucket. this video was posted on instagram as you can see the firefighters, they were then releasing the tiny birds in a nearby creek. after a quick trip down their bank, well the little ducklings, they were able to reunite with their parents. >> yes, they were saying thank you in duck talk. shot of that birdie to take the lead. when he has the right speed and the ball moved up by brian rose who tore his nose. garcia can win if their short birdie putt goes in, but no he'll need to work harder for his first major title as they went back and replayed 18. rose landed out of the fairway off the tee. didn't get much yardage with his second shot hitting out of the straw. and so then all garcia has to do is a two-putt and at last he has a major title. instead he closes out in style with a birdie to make the moment that much more memorable, nearly two decades of headaches for garcia in major tournaments will come to an end and he has a green jacket to prove it. final look at the leader board that shows it was all about garcia and rose at the end. three strokes, back in third and then it was matt kutcher and thomas peters tied four strokes back. well one week of baseball, the giants have proven they can win when johnny pitches. now they need to start doing it for the other guys. the giants fans in san diego today, to see their team hopefully avoid a sweep. giants jumped on clayton richards for five quick runs and held down hunter pence in the third. sending him over the leftfield side towards the hardware store. buster posey was up next. he went to the opposite field. and that one will make it out for his first home run of the year and the giants, they would bat you. >> yes. >> all right, looking forward to it. thank you. >> sure. welcoming up, a young girl reported missing out of sutter county. the frantic search by her family to bring her home on what police say might have happened. and police some supreme court cases could be heard in the coming weeks. how our new supreme court justice neil gorsuch could affect the outcome. well tomorrow marks a historic day at the white house. judge neil gorsuch is set to be sworn in as the 113th supreme court justice. he'll have to get up to speed on things very quickly as lauren blanchard tells us the supreme court could hear several key cases, two of which involve gun rights and same-sex couples. >> reporter: now that the senate has confirmed judge neil gorsuch to be the next supreme court justice, republicans and democrats alike are waiting to see exactly how gorsuch votes on the bench and how closely he falls in line with president trump's ideas. >> the nomination of neil gorsuch of colorado to be an associate justice of the supreme court of the united states. it's confirmed. >> reporter: hitting the ground running on thursday, the new justice will meet with his colleagues to decide whether or not to hear a number of cases in the fall term. but there are still a couple of months left in the current term for the court, which ends in june. gorsuch feels the conservative- leaning seat left vacant by the late justice antonin scalia and it could be the tie breaker vote. whether or not to hear cases about second amendment rights. and to office services to same- sex couples. in a case both will be closely watching. how the new justice is with the president and the revised travel bans on suvs. getting gorsuch on the bench hasn't been easy for the president or gop leaders after a a builter battle prompting republicans to use the nuclear option. now blamed for the historic move being tossed between bothparties. >> both democrats and republicans have the blame here. they have handled things in a way that shouldn't have been done. we should change our rules. we should change our rules to accomplish a purpose. >> reporter: tomorrow morning gorsuch will become the 9th justice on the supreme court and the 113th in the court's history. he will be sworn in privately before a public rose garden ceremony. in washington lauren lauren fox news. rallying for women's rights on the steps of the state capital in sacramento that led to a peaceful gathering, directed towards the trump administration and law may recollects calling for inclusiveness and dignity for all. more needs to be done to address topics like immigration and climate change organizers say everyone has a role when it comes to improving equal rights. >> if it takes the voice of women and those of us who stand as allies with women to awaken the attention of our president. so be it. >> about 60 to 70 people were at the rally. it was organized by the non- profit women for equality and the unity of sacramento church. firefighters in martinez say they are treating an early morning car fire outside a home as suspicious. it happened just before 2:00 this morning on phyllis terrace. firefighters say a family was inside at time, but they were able to make it out safely. a neighbor told us he heard what sounded like a bomb going off. he went to see what was happening and saw a car burning in the driveway of the home. >> in five minutes the car was engulfed. just a massive flame. it caught the next car on fire and the foot of the garage on fire. i would say within seven minutes, it was just a huge fire. and before all that happened, there was that huge bang, i mean it happened before the fire started. >> the most explosion you have ever heard. we heard parts of the vehicle on fire. >> the fire spread to a second car and damaged the exterior of the house with no injuries. firefighters have not said why they consider the fire suspicious. an investigation is underway in union city tonight after a car slammed into a home on cambridge way. it happened north of dyer street about half way between the onramps to the san mateo bridge. fire crews were called to the scene turning off the water and power to that home immediately. it's not clear what caused that driver to hit the house. it looks like most of the damage is limited to the home's garage. no news -- good news though, no one was hurt. after the disappearance of a 20-year-old yuba college student, another young female has been reported missing out of sutter county. reporter doug johnson has more on the search and what police think might have happened. >> reporter: take a close leak at the girl in this photo 16- year-old ann marie. >> and it is just like a big bubble of joy. she is incredibly funny. >> reporter: her sister sammy and mother say annie went missing wednesday night after taking a break in sutter county. >> about five minutes after she had gotten up and walked out to take a break, i went out to look for her. >> reporter: her mother couldn't find her. shortly before that a family- friend saw her walking in the church parking lot towards a nearby orchard. >> and are you doing okay? she said i'm struggling with some things. then she said i just need a few minutes and i'll be in a minute. then she never came back in. >> reporter: the security officers looked for her on atvsin those orchards, but came up with nothing. >> we walked all the way to the other end of the property ask and didn't see her. we checked around the building. >> live oak boulevard is here, yuba city is that way. >> reporter: now after hearing about other missing person cases in the area including 20- year-old allie yoman, annie's mother is worried sick. >> they can't tell me whether they are connected and that i shouldn't worry about that. however he doesn't know what happened to annie, so i don't know how you can make that conclusion. >> reporter: while detectives are looking into her disappearance, she is also frustrated the department of justice and the sutter county sheriff's office have listed her as a runaway in online posters. >> i'm not saying it's possible, but i'm saying it's unlikely. >> all right, some scary moments for parents and children in south carolina after church celebrations. they turned to chaos and several children are injured when their bounce house goes airborne. plus, more chances of rain this week for parts of the bay area. another live view of the bay bridge. meteorologist mark tamayo will be next with some details. a bounce house took flight during a church carnival in south carolina. five children are now recovering from injuries. >> boy, we have seen this happen before. recapping what happened when strong winds sent that inflatable 30 feet right into the air. >> reporter: it was suppose to be a fun saturday for those attending a small carnival at the stringwell church in taylors. but mother nature quickly turned things upside down just after 2:00 p.m. for everyone, literally. a witness still in shock asking us not to use his name. >> everybody was just enjoying themselves with a calm day, no wind blowing and all of a sudden it showed up. >> he says the house was anchored down with stakes and straps. >> when the second house went up, i had felt my kids on it. and we dove on to it and held on to try to bring it to the ground and it just took us up and took us into the power lines and broke all the power lines and we landed out in the middle. >> reporter: here is video of the bistandard shooting. he saw the stakes in the ground that initially secured the inflatables. >> there were stakes in the ground everywhere. >> reporter: despite the five injuries, two were severe according to reed. the situation could have been much worse if the power lines were live when they went down. >> fortunately they were dead when we hit the ground or we could have had fatalities, no telling what could have happened. >> reporter: he credits everyone from the volunteers to some of his off-duty personnel to stepping up when things turn for the worst. the church released this statement. "we are sadden for those who were injured during the unfortunate accident today. we join their families in prayer for full recovery." >> it is scary. >> yeah, it certainly is. as i mention it had is something we have seen that happened before? >> yeah those things can take off. >> they can. let's check in with our meteorologist mark tamayo to find out if we are expecting any windy weather around here. >> the winds from a few days ago have backed off with a bit of a breeze, but nothing too extreme maybe 15 to 20 miles an hour. forecast deadline for tonight as we do have fair skies tomorrow and we will start off with some clouds. the sky is becoming parly cloudy in the afternoon. then we are talking about more shower chances here in the bay area. the giants home opener coming up for tomorrow. the forecast looks pretty good as well as you can see out towards at&t park expecting partly cloudy skies. 61 degrees and the winds are right around 10 miles an hour. so the weather, it is actually cooperating for you. game one of the series as the giants will start the season back home in san francisco for tomorrow. outside right now, a live look outside and we will show you this looking out towards the bay bridge. and the winds for the most part as you mentioned now a big factor as we did get a chance to dry out nicely today after that stormy saturday primarily for the morning hours and also the gusty winds and so a bit of a break in the rainfall as we will need those breaks. take a look at the totals since october 1. santa rosa closing in on 60 inches. 107 is above average. san jose over 17 inches. that's 123% above average. just amazing this season and the rain season, it is not completely over just yes. take a look right now at storm tracker 2 as we do have rain showers up to our north up along the north coast. right around eureka, some of these clouds will work their way closer to the bay area for tomorrow morning and there is a chance we could have a few sprinkles or some drizzle. maybe a light shower up in the north bay and it could be enough to trigger the windshield wipers first thing tomorrow morning. temperatures in the 40s to the lower 50s for your sunday night. now in terms of rainfall over the next seven days you can see what we're expecting. the bulk of the action focused up to the north. but still add a rainfall to the bucket potentially in santa rosa especially and down towards san jose over the next seven days. thankfully we're not talking about the major storms approaching the region. this active weather pattern out here in the pacific is pretty disorganized as well. now tomorrow here is the weak system that is moving in once again not to bring in their clouds for wednesday morning. tuesday, we will have a few scattered light showers or a few sprinkles out there. it is not a big deal. then wednesday a chance for these showers. wednesday night, first up in the north bay with rainfall developing. it could be heavy at times on wednesday night. out to the south across the rest of the bay area. fine tuning that timing and that's what could be shaping up for you by midweek. here we are tomorrow morning, the skies will become partly cloudy into your monday. and then by tuesday, we will be picking up the clouds as you'll see the bulk of the shower activity up to the north where there could be enough moisture because of a few scattered showers out there. then we will take this into wednesday with a lot of clouds. here is that system we're watching that could bump up their rain chances in the north baby wednesday evening. and the rest of the bay area, they are probably after 9:00 to 10:00 on wednesday night. and the temperatures for tomorrow in the 50s to the 60s for afternoon highs. so we are trending up. san jose 68. half moon bay 60. san mateo 65. but look ahead to your five-day forecast as we will have a few showers. not a big deal for your tuesday. rainfall will develop to the north bay on wednesday evening. a part of the bay area late wednesday night with a chance for a shower late thursday and the early stage next weekend and it might be some rain clouds for the easter bunnies on sunday. and we will keep an eye on that potential forecast that one of these days they will stand here and say that rainfall season is completely over and we're done and we just can't say that yet. >> not yet, we are almost there. thanks, mark. san francisco lgbt centers celebrated their 15th anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of a $10 million renovation.
