against hate and racism. leigh martinez was at that protest as things got tense when the group came across some demonstrators. reporter: it started out like a college pep rally with several thousand people including children rooting for the same cause. love and inclusion thousands would begin marching through the streets of portland. along the way we found two men arguing. this is the first place. this is free speech. reporter: attracting onlookers, eventually ending civilly. please take my hands. we need to be coming together. reporter: demonstrators were afraid to continue into the park. i m freaked out. there is a lot more people here than i expected. i m not comfortable going in there. at one point the crowd chased a man down the street. the crowd cornered him at the gas station. he sat on the ground for several minutes before getting up. they will try to help with the free speech. he was escorted by police to a waiting car. after that incident, several of
tonight students are being warned to be vigilant. both of those incidents happened just 20 minutes apart in the same area on escondido road. ktvu azenith smith is live with the latest. azenith, both women in these cases describe the same suspect? reporter: police tell me they are reinterviewing the women. give these a given these assaults happened right in front of the dorms. reporter: police are making their presence known near escondido road following two groping incidents on campus friday night. it s always pretty horrible to hear about. and i know it because i live right down there happening pretty close too. reporter: the sophomore lives near this place. the suspect is still on the loose. it s a little scary thinking they could be just like a student in one of my classes. like you never know. reporter: police have released limited information about the assaults. their first one happened friday night at 10:40 in the evening on escondido road. a man groped a w
ordered for residents of that neighborhood while police search for a suspect or suspects. as for the condition of the officers, a source tells us that he was shot in the head, but did not lodge in his head. we were told that he was conscious when he arrived at san francisco general hospital. best news of all, he s expected to survive. mayor ed lee is on his way to the hospital. we will be sure to bring it to you. now, this has been a very fluid situation over the past half hour and a half. we are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. we do have a crew on the scene of this breaking news. kpho paul horton has been scrambling to try to keep up with all the developments. paul, what can you tell us about the suspect or suspects here? reporter: the officer was shot and wounded in the head. the officer is expected to survive, that was about 30 minutes ago where the suspect was located. officers used deployment, which are non-lethal to get the suspect out. n
