showers falling over the north bay at this time. areas like santa rosa come it has picked up in the last hour. stretching along 101 and into nevada, napa reporting rain as well. if you are making your way toward the central valley, sacramento valley area as well. mill valley, maybe a few sprinkles in higher elevations. as we squeeze in a long san francisco, if you scattered showers reported here. we have some rains reported in berkeley. into the sierra if you are going for the weekend, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to the first part of the weekend. we are watching some rain/snow mix right there at donner pass. is snow elevation has been really high, about 8000 feet you can see it has dropped down some a little bit. 65 degrees in the san francisco right now. upper 50s in oakland. 56 and one a creek. san jose at 57. these numbers are a lot like yesterday. for the afternoon, a lot like yesterday too. only going into the low 60s for the afternoon today. over the course of the day you will warm up about 10 degrees are so. 59 degrees to about 60 degrees at noon time. low 60s for the afternoon. when i come back we will look at the futurecast model and talk about scattered showers expected for today. we will talk about drier and warmer weather moving in and the extended forecast. we are following developing news. the massive wildfire in canada is expected to get worse before it gets better. officials say it could double in size by the end of today. this is helped by extremely dry conditions and hot, windy weather. the fire hers burned more than 1600 buildings. 330 square miles. it has forced the evacuation of 85,000 people. authorities say it is remarkable. no one has lost their lives. a man has been found guilty of two murders including the high-profile killing of an eight-year-old girl. prosecutors say darnell williams shot a gun to the front door of an apartment in july 2013. only security was at the home for a sleepover. she was killed and two other children and grandmother were hurt prosecutors say williams wanted to retaliate for a friend's murder. seven weeks later he killed anthony medearis because he thought he was a snitch. we spoke to the victims and. >> we have closure today. we appreciated the closure we got. thank you. >> williams could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. the penalty phase of his trial is set to start on the 16th. police in canberra looking for two people caught on video attempting to steal a car early wednesday morning. some surveillance footage from the home shows the suspects entering an unlocked car around 2:40 am. and men is seen in the driver seat making several attempts to start the car but field. the woman is seen next to him in the passenger seat. they left the car and fled the area. the police department is dealing with another case of an officer being accused of being intolerant. the department announced it has suspended officer for using language that had, sexual and racial undertones. the statements were made in february in the presence of two other employees the department has turned over the case to the police commission for disciplinary action. the force has been rocked by two other cases. police are searching for suspects in a shooting in east oakland. this happened after 6 pm near 23rd avenue. a man and a woman were wounded in gunfire. the victims are being treated at the hospital. no word on their condition or what led to the gunfire. oakland police radios and dispatch computers were hit with a round of problems this week. the system that officers rely on every day both failed. that system has been working off and on since wednesday. to make matters worse on thursday, the police radio system went down also. everything had to be done by hand. that included taking notes from 911 calls and hand delivering information. the department is transitioning to a new east bay regional radio system and was able to use that system as a backup. we did catch up with the oakland mayor and asked her about what the city is doing about this. >> the good news is that when the radios went out we were able to get on the regional system and get everybody out in the field safely, in communication. that is the permanent solution we are making great progress towards. >> the mayor acknowledged officers who say they are tardive breakdowns that jeopardize their safety. if the backup system were to fail, officials said officers could use their cellphones to communicate. now to the sexual assault allegations against dana stubblefield. legal analyst doubt that his attorneys will be successful in forcing santa clara county prosecutors off the case. stubblefield lawyers have filed a motion seeking the da offers to recuse itself defense attorneys argue that leaks about the investigation, prosecution statements and press releases have prejudiced the case against stubblefield who is accused of raping a developmentally disabled woman who went to his home last year to apply for a babysitting job. >> statements made by the district attorney's office about his potential guilt and receiving a sentence when he is convicted. of these types of things, we feel, are meant to inflame prejudice and not inform the public. legal experts are not think the motion will be granted. the judge could issue a gag order. the das office issued a statement saying, our response is the evidence of the evidence we will present in court. we seek justice for the victim and the people. we have checked and it looks like hillary clinton does not have another campaign events scheduled until monday which means she will have the weekend off. after getting a strong show of support from both sides of the bay. cpac fundraisers and public campaign appearances during her visit yesterday to oakland and san francisco. she headlined an event at the masonic temple auditorium at all or stops she said women's rights would be threatened under a donald trump administration. >> and i will defend planned parenthood! [ music playing ] >> i need some brie cheese. >> as you look over the bay. the cloudy skies. the rain is falling. that will continue for saturday but the system will push to the east and the rain will go with a. i will look at what you can expect for your bay area weekend mother's day coming up. from that music we will talk some youthful wall. there is an effort to reduce the number of player concussions. >> this is a big issue. safety experts say it starts with good coaching and proper fundamentals. >> christien kafton is live at the oakland raiders training facility in alameda for coaches across the region are being told to instruct their players. it's all about heads up. >> reporter: absolutely. we were outside talking with the master trainer. you can see they have started the classroom trading. these are coaches from all over the state. i am talking quietly because they are in the classroom portion of their training, learning good techniques about concussion and keeping their kids safe. we will show you video as we make our way outside to show you what the next part of their day will be. they are talking about youth and high school coaches taking part in this safety clinic today at the oakland raiders training facility. as we said this morning, the focus is on heads up football which is medically induced -- endorsed initiative led by usa football. during the clinic, john heffernan is the master trainer. he will guide these coaches through a series of drills to reinforce proper tackling and locking mechanic that focus on reducing helmet to helmet contact. they will also do seminars on recognizing concussion and what those symptoms might be. they will also learn about things like shoulder and helmet proper fitting. that is important if we are talking back keeping these kids safe. the coach said the priority is making sure the kids are safe. >> proper equipment is fitting. technique but also make sure the equipment fits property. we're not just hitting, blocking and tackling. we're hitting a number of different areas when it comes to player safety. nothing is more important than safety. a win here in there will not matter in two years if the kid will forget about it anyway. >> reporter: we were inside a moment ago where you saw the coaches doing that indoor classroom training. they will take everything outside here to the readers training facility in alameda to put into practice what they learned. they will be teaching one another and critiquing one another to make sure they are blocking properly and recognize how to block properly to avoid head-to-head contact which can cause concussion. the idea is they take what they learn here back to their communities. they are hoping this spreads from here in oakland throughout the state. they are trying to do what they can to get the next generation of football players safe. this is one their learning fundamentals and this is when they learn how to be safe when they are playing the game. >> it's such an important topic. i enjoyed the tour you took us  on. what a treat for these coaches to not only learn about concussions and safe play but to be at the readers of facility. that must've been a treat for them too? >> reporter: i have to tell you. the facility is unbelievable. these coaches will be thrilled to see. the field is amazing it is just short of an nfl field. they have an amazing workout facility. is coaches are in for a real treat. the take-home message is safety. >> i know you are talking to the trainer early. i'm wondering -- we had the big movie about concussions in the nfl. a lot of controversy. today feel like they are also getting more inquiries and more people saying, okay, maybe this is not something i worried about before. i may have been a coach for many years but certainly parents are coming forward and saying, hey, this is something i'm worried about. >> reporter: absolutely. before we went on they had a pie chart of surveys they have done with parents. they asked how big a concern is it for you and your child is playing youth sports? last 24 hours we have seen a 10th of an inch in areas like san jose. santa cruze picked up some as well. for most of us it has been very light. 59 in oakland. 58 in mountain view. we are all starting in the 50s. by this afternoon we're all in the 60s. we will look at afternoon highs and look at the futurecast model and show you with a pattern will wind down and when we will dry out and warm-up. we begin with the developing news. san francisco police tell us they made two dozen arrests after clashing with demonstrators at city hall last night. those protesters are upset about recent police shootings in san francisco. they are demanding that the mayor fire the police chief, greg suhr. earlier in the evening the protesters chanted outside the mayor's office but were prevented from going inside. later, sheriff's deputies began making arrests when the protesters refused to leave city hall. they created a chaotic scene. >> fire chief suhr! fire chief suhr! >> the protesters are in solidarity with five hunger strikers who have been taken to the hospital after refusing feed for 17 days. the frisco five are continuing their hunger strike from their hospital beds. police and san francisco are investigating the killing of a retired public defender. investigators say marla zamora was stabbed to death at her home. police do have a suspect in custody but they have not identified him or revealed any possible motive. a source is telling us the suspect is someone the victim new. the attack is not believed to be tied to any of her past cases. her killing has shocked the people who have worked with her in the public defender's office. >> everyone who worked with her at the hall respected her. for this to happen to her -- it was just unbelievable. we are in shock. >> she worked on many high- profile criminal cases including one that did get national attention. she defended edwin ramos who was a gang member convicted in 2012. the three family members were killed as they drove home from a family gathering on a sunday afternoon in 2008. developing news out of sacramento. there has been an accident that left a chp officer with major injuries. reports say around 3 am officers were responding to a hit-and-run involving two cars on eastbound highway 50 east of interstate 5. that's one one of the officers who was trying to clear the scenes was hit by a fedex truck. the driver did stop after the crash. we do not know the name of the officer that he is a veteran of the south sacramento chp office. san jose police have issued a silver alert for a missing elderly man. humberto ruiz was last seen shortly before 1 pm yesterday. he is a 91-year-old hispanic man . he suffers from a medical condition that often leaves him disoriented. he has gray hair, brown eyes, about six feet tall and weighed 140 pounds. he was last seen wearing a gray sweater. anyone who has seen him should contact san jose police right away. police in pleasant hill are looking for a missing 17-year- old girl. this is kelsie dall. she was last seen wednesday. police say it she may have gone to be with a boyfriend. she was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, flip-flops. she also had a black backpack with her. police are asking anyone with information to contact them as well. there will be more track maintenance for bart this weekend which means another weekend of service disruptions. this shutdown will be on a section of the fremont line. service between the pay fair and san leandro stations will be suspended there isn't going to be a bus bridge in place both today and tomorrow. transit is running shuttle buses between those stations. petaluma police say the poplar of the warriors is causing folks to commit crimes. police say reef went into an adidas store at the petaluma village outlet last week and ripped off steph curry jerseys from this play representative. he made off with 20 jerseys and drove off in a dark-colored nissan ultima. please call police if you have information. steph curry will not play in tonight's game against the trail blazers. the warriors are in good shape right now even without the nba's most valuable player. 80, the roads are slick at this point. if we stretch back here, not much going on. a little bit over half moon bay early on but that has tapered off. we're mainly dry over the eastman day. we continue with this pattern in place. we have been talking about where the low six. it has been making a very slow easterly track over the last few days. it was a way back here on tuesday or wednesday and as it began to move closer to california, we saw an increase in shower activity. we had a good amount reported in some areas yesterday. you can see the wraparound moisture continues to drive our way. then storm is causing problems in central and southern california. late yesterday the chp shutdown northbound lanes of interstate 5. that is why -- flash floods and mudslides. the closure caused a huge southbound lanes into los angeles were not affected. youth football coaches across california are at oaklands supervisor wiener three facility. >> they are taking part in a program to reinforce proper wants to close the school? >> the supervisor said the university has been in violation of city laws for years and this is a result of its failure to comply. he said the properties could be converted upset about recent police shootings and they are demanding that the bayer fire police chief, greg suhr. the protesters are in solidarity with five hunger strikers who have been taken to the hospital after refusing to eat for 17 days. police and san francisco are investigating the killing of a retard public defender. marla zamora was stabbed to death at her home yesterday morning. police have a suspect in custody but have not identified him or revealed any possible motive. let's talk about the warriors. they are looking to take a three game to nothing lead against the trail blazers in the last half hour we have watched the rain begin to pull in over the north bay. this is more widespread than when we started the morning. into areas from cloverdale, windsor, santa rosa and stretching down we have light rain falling around highway 101. this will move over toward the coast. to the east we also have rain in areas in an out of calistoga, napa, american canyon and vallejo. this stretches along i 80 through fairfield. when we get into the central and south bay, not so much. it is coming. into the sierra we have some snow reported around donner pass. around 7000 feet, that rain and snow mix. if i move it backs and turn on the radar you can see the direction of this moisture coming this way. we are likely to see scattered showers move into the central and south bay over the course of the next hour or so. temperature-wise of your starting in the 50s. 57 in san francisco. temperatures will be very similar for today. scattered showers in the forecast. we will run you through futurecast and endpoint some of these showers. we are drying out for mothers day. details on that coming up. that massive wildfire in canada's alberta province could double in size by the end of today. it is being fueled by extremely dry conditions and hot windy weather. the fire has burned more than 1600 homes and buildings. hit is forced the evacuation of 85,000 people. police and military are helping transport people out of fort mcmurray right now. a man has been found guilty of two murders including the high-profile killing of an eight-year-old girl. prosecutors say darnell williams shot a gun to the front door in july 2014. alaysha carradine was in the home for a sleepover. she was killed and two other children and grandmother were hurt. prosecutors say williams wanted to retaliate for a friend's murder. later police say he he killed anthony medearis because he thought that theirs was a snitch. >> we just got closure today. we appreciate the closure. thank you. >> darnell williams could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. the penalty phase of his trial is set to start on may 16. police in campbell are looking for two people caught on video trying to steal a car early wednesday morning surveillance footage from the home shows the suspects entering an unlocked car. a man is seen in the driver seat making several attempts to start the car but feel. the woman next to him in the passenger seat is there. they left the car and fled the area. san francisco police department is dealing with another case of an officer accused of being intolerant. the department announced it suspended an officer for using language ahead, sexual and racial undertones. the statements were made in february in the presence of two other apartment all employees. the department has turned over the case to the police commission for disciplinary action which could be termination. the board has been rocked by two other cases of officers texting racist and homophobic messages. police are searching for suspects in a shooting in east oakland. this happened shortly after 6 pm last night. police say a man and woman were wounded in the gunfire. the victims are being treated at a hospital but there is no word on their condition or what may have led to the gunfire. oakland police radios and dispatch raiders were hit with problems. the systems they rely on every day both field. the computer aided dispatch system had been working off and on since wednesday. to make matters worse on thursday, the police radio system went down at the same time. everything had to be done by hand. that included taking notes from 911 calls and hand delivering that information. the department is transitioning to a new east bay regional radio system and was able to use that system as a backup. we did catch up with the oakland mayor and asked her what the city is doing about this. >> the good news is that when the radios went out we were able to get on that regional system and get everyone out in the field safely in communication. that is the permanent solution we are making great progress towards. >> the mayor acknowledged the frustration of officers who say they are tired of breakdowns that jeopardize their safety. if the backup system were to fail, officers can use their cellphones to communicate. the sexual assault allegations against dana stubblefield. legal analyst doubt that his attorneys will be successful in forcing santa clara county prosecutors off the case. stubblefield lawyers have filed a motion seeking the district attorney's office to recuse itself. the defense attorneys argue that leaks about the investigation, prosecution statements in a press release have prejudiced the case against stubblefield who was accused of raping a developmentally disabled woman who went to his home last year to apply for a babysitting job. >> statements made by the district attorney's office about his potential guilt and receiving a stiff sentence when he is convicted. of these type of things, we feel, are meant to inflame presidents. -- prejudice. >> analyst do not think the motion will be granted. the could issue -- the judge could issue a gag order. >> our response is the evidence we will present in court. we see justice for the victim and the people. it looked like hillary clinton did not have and other campaign event scheduled until monday which means she has the weekend off. after getting a strong show of support from the bay area. she packed fundraisers and public campaign appearances during her visit yesterday to both oakland and san francisco. last night she headlined an event at the masonic temple auditorium which exceeds 3300 at all of her stops she told the crowd that women's rights would be threatened under a donald trump administration. >> and i will defend planned parenthood! and people need to remember that he said women should be punished for making our choices and that he wants to defund planned parenthood. >> the san francisco fundraiser was aimed more at the masses than deep pocket donors. ticket prices start at $45. >> the fact that the tickets are affordable for people our age is nice. >> i have been a longtime obama supporter and i think she is a natural heir to the obama agenda. >> protesters gathered across the street. many of them were bernie sanders supporters and they held signs questioning clinton's time as secretary of state. a highlight of clinton's visit was a rally at an elementary school in oakland. hundreds lining up for hours for that free event. she was joined by some oakland raider players, the mayor, and senator barbara boxer. the oakland fire marshal limited the size of the crowd due to safety concerns inside the gym. some bernie sanders supporters are rolling into the bay area and bat red bus. members of the nurses union have been traveling across the country to drum up support for the vermont senator. we caught up with the bus friday at sonoma state university where volunteers set up a voter registration booth. the bus also made stops in santa rosa and martinez. donald trump is also campaigning this weekend on the west coast. his plane touched down yesterday in eugene. he spoke to more than 4000 people at a rally last night. part of his speech focused on hillary clinton and massachusetts democratic senator, elizabeth warren. in a series of tweets she called trump, a bully who has a single play in his play bach -- playbook and calls out anyone. trump went on the attack. >> i just learned that crooked equipment. how to properly take care of a child who has sudden cardiac arrest. clearly the is a focus on concussion. i had master trainer, john heffernan, who was holding the clinic walk me through the proper heating technique to avoid helmet contact. the idea is to keep the head to the side to protect those players as much as possible. organizers and coaches agree that safety is the number one a look at the system that is moving east. as it continues to move you can see the wraparound moisture going in this direction. it will push east as well. today is the last day where we will be in this pattern of cloudy skies and on and off spotty shower's. it will take the next 24 hours before it moves out of the way. that leaves us with mother's day mostly cloudy and mainly dry. temperatures are under a cloudy sky, if you 9 degrees in oakland. 60 degrees in sfo. for the afternoon you can see a lot of cloud cover. that will not go away. into the second part of the day a lot of green on the screen. in this case it means 60s, low 60s at the coast. low to mid 60s around the bay. some spots will get into the upper 60s. morgan hill at 66. 66 for oakland. low 60s in san francisco. the extended forecast with the bay area weekend always in view shows showers taper off tonight. but tomorrow we're mostly cloudy and may start the day with a little bit of drizzle. a mostly dry forecast for mother's day. temperatures will come up a few degrees the warming trend continues into the business week. >> by monday it's all good. london has elected its first muslim mayor. it did so by a large margin. british labour party candidate, sadiq khan, one with 57% of the vote. he was a human rights lawyer and is now one of the most prominent muslim politicians in the west. during the campaign his conservative opponent tried to link him to muslim extremists. the new mayor said politics of fear are not welcome in london or anywhere else in great britain. pregnant women cannot be kept out of new york city bars because they are expecting. the city's human rights commission issued a new set of guidelines that stated that bartenders cannot refuse to serve pregnant women drinks. . city requires restaurants and bars to post warnings that drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth defects. the commission ruled health decisions are up to the expected mothers, not the bartenders or bouncers. it is mother's day weekend and we want to introduce you to a woman who is a mother and entrepreneur. she started her own business and she has created a line of products that
