A little guy came in and parts of the skyline, theres a couple of little guys near the mix which had held early this morning, very early this morning and still some up in mendocino county. The key is going to be some very cold air, snow showers off and on, Winter Weather advisory until noon and i would not be surprised by a winter storm warning which is how cold and dynamic the system will be. We are slow to recover, 48 napa and it will be a cool breezy day and temperatures will drop off the table but we will get a break for things giving and start to focus our attention on that guy coming off the gulf of alaska with another one behind it for late friday into saturday. 60s for others, and get ready for a taste of winter here early, we are okay tomorrow so enjoy but off and on rain and maybe some slow, low elevations by sunday. Mr. Trump is spending thanksgiving with his family in florida and is said to be mulling over whether to nominate mitt romney as secretary of state. He has reportedly offered rival ben carson a cabinet position of secretary of housing and urban development. Meanwhile he continues to backtrack from several Campaign Promises telling the New York Times that he is not interested in going after Hillary Clinton for her email scandal. Some top scientists are urging Harry Clinton to challenge the Election Results in three key battleground states. They claim they found evidence that results in michigan, wisconsin and pennsylvania may have been manipulated. They say they focus on counties that use electronic Voting Machines instead of the other methods. They had 7 fewer votes, a pattern that scientists are calling suspicious. The group presented their findings and the Clinton Campaign has not commented. The video shows a man performing a magic trick with a deck of cards, then the word honey appears on the screen. The video tries to replay itself but it quickly causes the phone or tablet to freeze. Some reports say resetting your phone could help to unfreeze it. Apple is running ios 10. 1 and beta versions of 10. 2 seem to be the most vulnerable to this. Google is offering a new feature to help you avoid crowds. Google maps is updating its popular feature thats using information about when stores and restaurants are busiest. Now its offering a live preview, a realtime estimate of how crowded a place is. Even if its impossible to avoid holiday crowds, it will let users know if theres an unusually large number of people in that spot where you want to be. Maybe youre about to hit the slopes instead of going out to the stores. Lets check in with kevin up in heavenly. Looks like all those praying for snow parties are paying off. They are, my friend. We did that a little bit earlier. You can see the blue bird skies down below. What a difference a few thousand feet make in the sierra. You can see the gondola. Were getting ready, probably about three minutes here, theres about 3,000 people at the base ready to get their first day on the snow. Its been snowing consistently throughout the night. So just about 5 inches and as i was up a little bit higher theres probably about 6 or 7 inches here at heavenly. North star reporting 8 inches. The best of tahoe resorts. Youre in South Lake Tahoe. That area isnt getting nice and crowded . Are things jumping . Is this the beginning of the season for people who love the snow . Last night, i was at raleys last night getting my bottle of red and you could see people showing up for the weekend up here. The sierra gets snow on thanksgiving, its always a good time. Its kind of a bonus for us. In 52 years, ive been skiing since i was 2, i probably got 25 great thanksgivings and this is absolutely one of them. Its the quality of the snow. You can see, this is light stuff. This is like 141. Its going to be really fun to slide on. Another system even colder coming in saturday, sunday in to monday. And then some more base building stuff later in the week. So time to get up and enjoy the holidays. Lets talk finances. I know there were several bad seasons because of the drought. The drought continues. Last season, last year was pretty good. Financially are the resorts where they need to be, or are they still in that hole because of all those dry years . Last year was a great recovery year. We talked about the pent up demand and the bay area reacts. All the local business down from the snow centers, snowmobile operations, hotels, and restaurants are doing absolutely fantastic. Theres actually a renaissance on the south shore. A lot of new restaurants have gone in to the old vacant facilities. If you come up to South Lake Tahoe theres a lot of new places for you to go and experience. The solid rain we had here in october in the bay area, do you get a sense thats a little bit of a foreshadow about how good of a winter you guys are going to have up there . It was the second wettest october in recorded history. That sets the base up. A lot of the forecast ive been reading in the long range have us set up for normal. Weve been talking about sea surface temperatures, theyre normal in the pacific. A normal winter in tahoe is about 450 inches which is fantastic. That fills everything in. Were anticipating or were hoping to have our resorts open by 100 , north star, heavenly, and kirkwood by the Christmas Holiday and ready to go. Ill tell you, my friends, my boots are ready. My skis are sharp. Im going to go hit it. On a personal note, im sorry i missed you at Terrapin Crossroads the other day. That was a good event. Were going to do it again. And you guys are always invited to everything i do. Ill be there. Thank you, coop. Coming up on mornings on 2 the nine, are you hitting the road, taking to the sky . Well check in on major and local airports around the country to give you an update on crowds and delays. Its the busiest travel day of the year. According to orbitz. Com, 72 of people are taking a trip over the next few days. This video of Devon Betancourt of oakland shows these are the lines. Theyre out to the part where you have to wait outside. How are the lines and security looking there . Not bad. But traffic is just starting to build again. It was busy much earlier in the morning and now here close to 9 30 theres a lot of International Travelers at hanan, and over here at alaska, not too bad. Were expecting this to be a peak travel time from 9 30 to noon. Do want to show you video of the lines at the checkin counter and what it looked like this morning. Theyre expecting a 15 increase in passenger traffic during this holiday period. Airport Officials Say they want people to come early to check in. Two hours ahead for domestic flights. And more for international. The employees were offered overtime. Additional staff was brought in to help including k9s to sniff for explosives which help the lines go faster. The dogs walked around and smelled the bags and stuff. Then we checked in. Took about 10, 15 minutes. Were you surprised by that that it was fast considering its such a busy day . Yeah, i was very surprised. They say it takes an hour and a half, two hours. And heres video that a viewer went in showing long lines at Oakland International airport. We checked in with a spokesperson there who told us there are minimal delays and things are flowing smoothly. The security screening lines are moving pretty good. Sfo is reporting same conditions. Something to keep in mind, check your flight status before coming to the airport. If you plan on bringing presents, sometimes people do that for thanksgiving, leaving them for christmas, the airport officials are saying leave them unwrapped because its going to take longer to get through screening and they might have to unwrap them there. Were also tracking the up to the minute delays at major airports across the country. Joining us from chicago ohare orbit, orbitz. Com Senior Editor. Thanks for joining us. Great to be here. In chicago specifically and across the midwest, snow can be a real problem. I know its been snowing in the chicago land area. Whats the situation out of ohare, major hub . Not only is chicago a major hub but actually the Busiest Airport in the country this holiday weekend. Thats followed by Atlanta Hartsfield and los angeles international. And we have seen this storm system coming through the midwest from last night in to the morning. Its affecting some of the flights like ohare, minneapolis, detroit, down in to texas in houston and dallas. But not on a major scale. Weve seen a few delays in some of the airports but for the most part things are running smoothly. Were seeing and hearing the same sentiments here as you are in places like san jose where the security lines are not long. Theyre moving through very quickly. Seems to be travelers are all in very good spirits. Talking to our meteorologist here, were expecting weather saturday, sunday. Possibly on the return trips for folks coming back to the bay area, may be a slow trip home. Im curious in regards to that, people get ticked off, theyre frustrated. Social mediawise what airlines are the best when it comes to responding to travelers who are reaching out to the airline saying help me out, rebook me, do this or do that . On the return flight sunday is going to be busiest. Sometimes there is frustration on those really high volume travel days. I think most of the airlines are doing their best to respond to travelers in these situations. I have heard some of the Major Airlines are beefing up their social media teams to help respond to these. Thats always one way to reach out to the airline should you be in a bad situation at the airport. I also recommend using your smart phone to your advantage. Putting in your 1800 number to your airline so if you have a delay or problem, you have access to that as well. Wednesday, before thanksgiving, was the busiest travel day of the year, but over the years its shifted. I think last year i heard it was actually the sunday before thanksgiving was actually the busiest day. So are people spreading out their travel now throughout the entire week . I do think travelers are becoming much more savvy and flexible because they know that it can help them not only avoid crowds but save money when booking their tickets for the holidays. Great example here at ohare last night, there were a lot of travelers arriving here on flights last night from around 8 00 to 9 00 p. M. So we do see it spread out a little bit more and more travelers leading to travel on the morning flights on thanksgiving day. Similar sentiment for christmas as well. Travelers tend to spread that out a little bit more and use their Vacation Days wisely. So many people feel as if theyre being nickel and dimed by the airlines, and the Customer Service were getting in return is a far cry from where things used to be maybe 10 or 15 years ago. What is your best advice for travelers who feel as though they had a terrible experience, want to let their airline know, and perhaps try to get something in return. It is definitely a different travel environment than it was 10 or 15 years ago certainly. I recommend coming prepared to the airport, know what to expect. Do your best to try to avoid those extra ancillary fees like the checked bag fee or overweight bag fee if you pack too much. Kind of just educate yourself and know about those extra costs before you book and before you head to the airport. If you do have issues, you can contact your travel provider, your airline directly through social media outlets, through their 1800 number, through their website, Customer Service emails, many methods to contact them to try to resolve some of these issues. What about hawaii . A lot of people from the bay area seem to go off to hawaii. They never seem to have any delays in hawaii. Id be happy to fly there too. Jenine, Senior Editor with orbitz. Com. Happy holidays to you. Were so lucky we grew up here, our families are here, we dont have to travel more than 10 miles to find them tomorrow on thanksgiving. We did ask you with a little poll, are you traveling, are you staying put . Most of you are just like us. 63 say theyre staying put. I like it. What a luxury. Highway patrol, by the way, speaking of hitting the roads, theyre going to be everywhere this holiday weekend. Chp does maximum enforcement on all holiday weekends. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year. Unfortunately its one of the deadliest. According to aaa, nearly 6 Million People in california will be traveling 50 miles or more from their homes and most of them will be driving. Were taking a look at those Anonymous Tip Lines. So many people say sharing information with police can lead to retribution on the streets. But police say theres a way to help solve crimes by providing tips anonymously. Henry lee has been looking in to texting a tip. This is what he found. Reporter an emotional vigil for four young men shot dead. A man was arrested but two Years Later Police are still looking for other suspects in this horrific crime. This flier announcing a 250,000 reward asks anyone who can help solve the killings to send in tips anonymously. It was a quadruple homicide. Reporter the mother of one of the victims desperately wants justice for her son. Even she isnt so sure about the system. Theres nothing anonymous on the cell phones. Lets be real. Reporter snitching has long been taboo. In the digital age, theres serious questions about sending in information. Is it really anonymous . I paid a visit to the San Leandro Police department who has cracked a number of cases with tips from the public. The sergeant says people arent calling nowadays with information. Theyre texting. I texted a tip about seeing a bad guy on the street corner. It popped up in realtime on the lieutenants computer. My name and phone number never showed up on the screen. Through this system here, completely anonymous. It doesnt show a phone number. It doesnt show an i. P. Address of a computer. It gives us no information whatsoever except for whatever they send us, its all we get. Theres still some reluctance to use that because of the digital prints people think theyre leaving behind. Reporter he knows firsthand people can be reluctant to talk to the police. Its a matter of not being a snitch, its actually a matter of Public Service and telling the truth about an incident because if the tables were turned youd expect the same thing from the public and other individuals. Reporter Sherry Lynn Miller is a victims advocate in oakland who creates memorial programs. She comforts families who have lost loved ones to violence. We have to stop the murders. If we have a new way to report without the backlash, that could possibly be our first step in preventing further murders. Reporter miller knows its not that easy. And the fear is real. Weve seen people give information then were attending their funerals. Reporter millers office is in an east oakland funeral home. The irony is not lost on her. But im scared, i dont want to be the next person in your funeral home. What do you say to me . Its a hard question. Again, if we can do it anonymously with no ties to them, youll see them come around. Reporter these San Francisco women have all lost loved ones to homicide. Many understand why its hard for tipsters to come forward. Barbara grasby, whose son frederick was shot dead in 2012, says the next family you help could be your own. If that person murders your loved one after theyve done mine, and you decided it was okay to stay silent, can you live with yourself . Henry lee joins us live this morning. I remember 12 years ago when i started at ktvu i was covering a lot of crime in richmond. Thats when i first heard the phrase, snitches get stitches. Or snitches lie in ditches. Gone are the days where you approach a police car outside your house or you have a squad car come up to your house and boom, youre marked. Here you can actually text something in the comfort of your home, around the corner, no one will know what youre doing. How do they think people find out if i were to call the police and say they do get my number, is someone there sharing my number with people who want to harm me . Not necessarily. There are Anonymous Tip Lines that do not have your phone number show up. What not a lot of people know, if you call 911, its a life or death emergency, your phone number will show up because they want to get you the help. In the case of you want to help police solve a crime, your number does not show up if you call a specific tip line or text. Whats the concern then . People think anything you do on your phone will be traced. Thats not the case with this anonymous tip system. Would you use an Anonymous Tip Line . 70 said they yes. 23 said it depends on the situation. What about just going down to the local precinct and walking in the door and saying hey, ive got a piece of information . That seems like the most anonymous thing. Someone might see you. I guess someone could see you. Again, whether you mail a letter. Right now you guys dont know if im texting or tweeting or facebooking or sending San Jose Police a tip. No one knows. People are on their phones constantly. What better way than to use this device to help solve a crime . When youre riding b. A. R. T. , when youre at the giants game, all these agencies have ways. Trouble in your section . Text us. Well send a Security Guard over. See something criminal happening . Let us know. Its been positive in that. Perhaps if im involved in some criminal activity, i may not be very willing to communicate in any way that might be traceable with the Police Department or otherwise. I was dubious initially but when i went to the San Leandro Police department, i looked carefully at the lieutenants computer to make sure my phone number was not there, my name. None of it. It just comes out as tipster. In that case, theres a 250,000 reward. I would think in those cases that you would get more anonymous tips because of that dollar amount. Yeah. Would you say that plays a role in it . Sometimes the stakes are higher and some people are even more reluctant, if they say wow, the stakes are high. If i identify that person, ill be the next person whos gunned down or subject of revenge. But it depends. Rewards help. But weve seen a lot of San Francisco cases have 250,000 rewards like the quadruple homicide. People are not getting the pieces of the puzzle together. Police say we cant be everywhere. You have to be our eyes and ears. And you can do so anonymously. We have posted the numbers for Anonymous Tip Lines on our website. You can find them under the crime tag on our homepage at ktvu. Com. Now to the south bay. The city of santa clara is playing hard ball with the 49ers over management of levis stadium. Last night the Santa Clara City Council voted unanimously to issue a 30day warning letter threatening to take control of the stadium unless the 49ers hand over financial documents about its management of levis. City leaders plan to draft and send the letter out today. They claim city funds may have been used to subsidize staff time. It would violate an Initiative Protecting the citys general fund. At this point were supposed to be making decisions about the stadium and we havent seen a single document thats required in this agreement in two and a half years. The issue at hand is not whether or not they can see it. They can see it. We can go through it. The issue at hand is whether or not to make these public record. The 49ers say the financial records the city wants are proprietary information and that no other publically funded stadium in the country releases such details. The 49ers say sharing this information would hurt their ability to book events such as concerts and sporting contests. Owner mark davis is reportedly remaining committed to moving the team to las vegas, despite the efforts of oakland leaders to keep the team here in the area. Libby schaaf broke the news on mornings on 2 here with gasia yesterday. The city agreed on the framework to build the new stadium, however, the raiders are not involved with the project. The city is working with a Development Team led by raiders and 49ers great ronnie lott. Specifics of the plan were not released. Raiders fans are optimistic. Numerous groups have made proposals. This is the first one that i know thats shes taken to city council. The other ones i think were legitimate, but she chose this one. They reported held separate closed door meetings yesterday to discuss the proposal. A las vegas official who was with mark davis in mexico city for monday nights game tells the Journal Newspaper that davis is still focused on relocating to nevada and that he called nevadas governor to state that on the record. Were hearing more from Colin Kaepernick about his milliondollar donation to charity helping repressed communities. They talked about issues ranging from the teams upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins to selecting which nonprofits to give some of his money to. The donation stems from his refusal to stand before the National Anthem before games to protest racial injustice. Were being very particular with the organizations were donating to, making sure theyre very grassroots, and also want to be transparent with where were going and where the money was going to within those organizations. Kaepernick recently announced how he was dividing the first 100,000 of the donation. Silicon valley and just cause will each receive 25,000. Groups in milwaukee, dallas, new york, and chicago are also receiving contributions. A bay area nonprofit is celebrating its 20th anniversary helping families with children who have special needs. A fremont mother cofounded this group after her son was diagnosed with autism. Wu says her son is limited in his communication skills but has a limitless capacity to bring joy. He plays piano and nine other instruments. She cofounded the Group Friends of children with special needs. Her son volunteers his time playing at hospitals as well as senior centers. He can contribute something to the community. Thats the goal i give him. He can do something for people who need it. Wu says her son will never be able to live independently but that should not be a deterrent to living life to its fullest. She tells us he has won many music competitions including the silver medal in a Piano Competition by people with disabilities in vienna last year. The day before thanksgiving is very busy for a lot of people as they prepare for these big holiday feasts. You know what, in San Francisco this morning there are several places serving or planning extremely large thanksgiving dinners with thousands of guests who really appreciate the meal. Early tomorrow morning theyre going to have about 2,000 volunteers down here at Salvation Army headquarters. Theyre going to fill up these boxes with the rest of these thanksgiving meals so theyre going to add all the other fixins and theyre going to put them in those boxes. Volunteers are going to take those meals and drop them off on peoples door steps tomorrow for thanksgiving. These are a lot of fobelgz who cant make it out of their homes, unable to get somewhere for a hot meal. Its going to be brought right to them. Thank you so much, alex. I know the people who receive those meals appreciate it. If youre fortunate enough to be in the position of volunteering your time or your money or efforts, you feel good afterward too. Its really lost to history. We been doing this 30 years now and the originator of this fabulous idea is no longer with us. We dont know who it was. But were very grateful. Ive noticed a couple years when ive come down here, lets look at the puppies too. Ive noticed a couple times when ive come down here theres just kittens in the display and im kind of a dog lover so im always bummed theres no dogs. Why is that . Because weve got some now. Look at these guys. They get adopted pretty much the moment we open. I dont think youd blame the public for that. So we start out with about four puppies every morning and theyre usually gone a couple hours in to the day. I didnt realize, i thought they waited till everything was over, but you can adopt them right now. Absolutely. The second the doors open you can come to an adoption counselor and Start Talking about taking a friend home. If somebody wants to volunteer, they can come down here and help you guys out . Absolutely. If you go to sfspca. Org, theres a banner about holiday windows. Click on that. You can volunteer for a twohour shift any day. Were still looking for volunteers. I just have to hear, im going to give you my microphone because i have to hold one of these cute little ones. Look at that. Does that get any cuter . Oh, he is so cute. Take him home, tara. Take him home. Oh, my husband would kill me. But my kids would love me. Super cute. Thank you so much. Very important to know because ill be down there in a couple weeks. We take the family as well. But the people who stand outside are all volunteers who collect the money. So if you can do it, go down, i think theyre only twohour shifts. So its great.
