you're way inland and then you can find 90s. okay. first we had an issue with the san mateo bridge. now what. >> we have a look at the backup. even though the crash has been cleared in san jose, 101 is very slow and it is stretching out to the area here. northbound 101 near 85. you can see where both freeways here have been slow. northbound 101 and 85, there was an accident at snell. so the south bay commute, especially coming in from morgan hill is not doing well right now. the rest of the commute if you're, let's say, getting on the freeway on 85 and further up doesn't look bad. again, that slow traffic will be you this morning. 680 is slow out of the pleasanton area headed down to the sunol grade. we can see traffic on highway 4 will be a little slow this morning. san mateo bridge recovering now after an early stalled vehicle. it didn't stay out there for too long. things were much better than they were. at the bay bridge, about a 10 to 15-minute wait. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. a still developing story from san jose. the police are searching for whoever shot and killed the owner of a liquor store late last night. >> alex savidge is live at the scene with more on what you're learning about the victim. alex. >> reporter: good morning to both of you. the owner of the liquor store was a husband and father of four. late last night, he was gunned down by a would-be armed robber that stormed into the police. san jose police are still out here gathering evidence at the scene of the killing. this is jim's liquor store. it is inside of this shopping center at white and quimby roads. relatives here at the scene this morning tell me the store owner who was killed was 57- year-old charlie lee. he and his wife were working the counter late last night when a masked man, armed with a gun, burst in, demanding money. now, the victim's brother tells me that lee was taking a nap on the floor inside of the store but he woke up as the robbery began. his brother says lee refused to open the register and that's when the gunman opened fire. >> my brother, he heard. he heard and stood up and said no. and the guy shot him. somewhere in the chest. and he died right away. >> reporter: relatives tell me that lee and his wife have owned the store for more than a decade. they often work seven days a week here and they have been robbed several times before in the past. now, this store does have surveillance cameras. police right now working to pull some of that surveillance video from last night's shooting in the hopes of identifying the killer in this case or possibly the get away car that was used here in this crime. anyone who has any information on this killing that happened last night at jim's liquor store here in east san jose is urged to nut a call right away to police. >> alex, so it sounds like the victim's wife was there and saw everything that happened? ened? >> reporter: right. she was -- it sounds like she was the one awake and working the counter while her husband took a nap. he was tired. it was late in the night. that's when this armed robber came into the store, according to relatives, and lee apparently woke up as this robbery was just getting underway. and he jumped up and apparently refused to open the register. and that's when he was shot. >> so terrible. thank you, alex. two suspects in the deadly shooting and robbery of a 71- year-old at twin peaks in san francisco are set to make a court appearance today. we will share the mug shot for one of the suspects. he and the 20-year-old were booked yesterday on the charges of murder, robbery and using a gun. they killed robert french and robbed him of his camera on july 16th while he was taking photos of the sunrise. mims was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon. that has many asking why he was ever released from jail. >> he was arrested on the 7th. and he was released just four days later. it makes you question the judicial system when you have a convicted felon in possession of a firearm that is released on his own reconnaissance and commits a heinous crime five days later. >> they are also accused of robbing a group of tourists. a man accused in the shooting death of kate steinly two years ago on the pier will be back in court today. lopez sanchez was in court yesterday as the judge discussed a scheduling issue. lopez sanchez is charged with first degree murder, accused of shooting kate steinly with a stolen gun. but his lawyers say the gun went off accidentally. he is an undocumented immigrant who had been deported five times. the judge may possibly decide on a trial date today. police in belmont released the name of a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened saturday. police are searching for 27- year-old alexander stewart who may have changed his hair style to short dead locks since this photo was taken. he should be considered armed and dangerous. the victim identified as 24- year-old jones died at the scene. anyone with information is urged to call police. the fbi is offering a $3,000 reward to help catch a bank robber called the smiling face bandit. the fbi says he has robbed six wells fargo banks in san francisco in less than three months. the first one was south of market on may 20th. the latest one was saturday on irving street in the sunset district. the fbi has these surveillance photos of the suspect described as 5'65"58 with a slim build and he wears a hair piece and a baseball hat. he claimed to have a weapon. as you see here, he often smiles as he is robbing the bank. the follow-up to a story we reported yesterday. google fired an employee for writing a manifesto for women who work in tech. it was written on an internal discussion board by moore, a software engineer. he wrote that men are more biologically predisposed to work in tech than women. and he argued that programs for women may be misguided. google says it violates the company's code of conduct and cut his vacation short to deal with this crisis. this comes as the vice president of diversity shared a statement saying that while the company does not view the viewpoint of the employee but she defends there is a new accident reported. and traffic will be slow there. we have slow traffic and an earlier slow on the san mateo bridge that slowed things down. the dumbarton bridge is not that bad. and we saved some of the slowest traffic for last. let me go to northbound 101. slow out of the capital expressway. and 85 is slow into the valley because of earlier problems. now we can take a look at 280 a federal judge in san francisco will not throw out the latest lawsuit against wells fargo bank. the suit claims wells fargo denied loans to immigrant who's came to the u.s. without documentation as children and have been allowed to stay. now, the judge says denying loans because of citizenship status violates law. wells fargo has a policy of approving loans only for u.s. citizens or nonlegal citizens who has a legal citizen cosign for the loan. it wells fargo will defend its record as a responsible lender. americans have the highest amount of credit card debt in history. about one trillion dollars. the federal reserve says more consumer are getting access to credit cards. 170million consumers had access to credit cards. hackers have posted more stolen hbo files online and now demanding a multi million dollar ransom. the hackers are telling hbo either pay $6 million or they will release more shows and documents. they claim to have stolen 1.5tera byes of shows and corporate data. they have released e-mail from one of hbo's vice president and script from "game of thrones." they also have released episodes of ballers. apple officially has its own instagram account. it uses the@apple handle. it features photos comprised of iphone photographers' work. each album, a video as well. it bills the effort as a look through the lens of iphone users around the world. apple is anything over 75. coast and bay are right about where they should be. 60s and 70s. so temperatures have settled in, along with a big fog bank. that got helped along by an area of high pressure that fired up the thunderstorms. northern mendocino county and lake county yesterday afternoon. a possibility again today. it is moving more towards nevada. on the northeast part of the state and the tahoe area we will see another round of those. low pressure it looks like another piece of energy is dropping in. keeping temperatures about the same. 50s and 60s. we're slow to separate on a lot of these. petaluma is in there. windsor, even the valley. that tells you how close everyone is. there is an on shore breeze. not that strong. there is fog up and down the coast. low clouds and breezy. once that definitely slow traffic, steve. good morning to you. we're looking at the commute. we're getting more slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. it finally has arrived a little bit. it is still about a 15 to 20- minute delay. i don't see a huge backup here right now. also looking at a commute if you're driving on interstate 880 nearby. traffic is slow as you head south from, let's say -- well, it's a little closer to 92. and as you head south it is slow into fremont. we had issues on 101 and 280. the traffic has spread out around the bay. it is 7:31. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. >> happening today, the city of oakland and officials are taking a big step towards creating a new police review board. interviews with the final candidates with the police station commission board starts in a few hours. allie rasmus is live to explain the authority to the new board will have. >> reporter: there are a total of 28 final candidates. the selection committee will start interviewing them later today and the rest of this week. that's ahead of a total of more than 145 people who applied to be one of the people, one of the members sitting on the new oakland citizens police review board. the board will have seven permanent members and two alternates. so a total of nine people. three of the permanent members will be appointed by the mayor. the other four are selected by the panel. the final candidates, the 28 that will start being interviewed today come from many different ethic and professional backgrounds. the final list of candidates includes 14 men, 12 women. one person listed as transgender and another who declined to state. what will this review board be able to do? oakland has had a review board since the 1980s. but this one will have far more authority. they will make decisions on budgets and discipline officers involved in officer-involved shootings and be able to subpoena and interview officers and police personnel for their investigation of those incidents. if they have a super majority vote, the citizens review board could even fire the police chief and suggest a replacement. according to the chair of the selection panel who is starting some of the interviews today, the interviews will start at 5:30 this evening, about 20 minutes apiece. once they finish interviewing all candidates, the panel will deliberate about this board forming. in the meantime a man accused of two attacks on bart passengers is in jail this morning. 42-year-old mario washington was arrested yesterday in downtown oakland. he is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery. he was arrested just a couple hours after bart released these photos yesterday morning asking the public for help in identifying the suspect. now, bart police say washington was on a train in san leandro last thursday when he hit a man with a bolt cutter and punched and kicked him. two days later, police say he punched a passenger twice in the face on a train heading to the embarcadero in san francisco. a firefighter recognized the suspect from the photos yesterday morning and called the police. new this morning, investigators looking for the cause of a two alarm in oakland overnight. it broke out just before 11:00 last night. flames could be seen from miles away. investigators say the building was a two-story home under construction. firefighters had to work around the scaffolding and nearby homes were at risk. no reports of any injuries. a professor at north western university in illinois who is accused of murder was in a bay area courtroom yesterday to say he is willing to go back to chicago to face charges. 42-year-old latham was in court yesterday at the east county hall of justice in dublin. he is accused of fatally stabbing 26-year-old, a man he was having a personal relationship with. latham's lawyers say the people who know him are shocked. >> they all describe him as a kind, intelligent and gentle soul and a loyal and trusted friend. what he is accused of is totally create to the way that he -- contrary to the way that he lived his entire life. >> the other man accused in the crime surrendered on friday in san francisco. he is a british citizen, a financial officer for oxford university. after a year-long investigation, the f.a.a. says no sanctions will be filed against a skydiving center after two men were killed in a tandem jump last august. the bodies of quan and nicholas landed in a vineyard last august. a witness reported the skydivers hit the ground without an open parachute. according to the f.a.a., quan had paperwork saying that he had received certification training but the association learned that the documents were falsified. the time is 7:35. a san bruno woman is facing charges after police say she was drunk when she crashed her car over the weekend with a child sitting on her lab and then kept driving. 47-year-old of san bruno was arrested saturday night. charged with dui and child endangerment. witnesses say she crashed her suv into two parked cars in the 2200 block of evergreen in san bruno and left the scene. police found her a couple of blocks away. that child by the way was not hurt. san francisco officials agree the city's sea wall along the embarcadero needs a lot of work. it runs from fisherman's wharf to mission creek. voters will be asked to approve a $350 million bond measure in november, one that would help pay for the most needed repairs. even if it is passed, the city would need another $145 million for phase one. phase two would cost $5 billion. people in a prestigious neighborhood are angry that the private street was sold to a real estate investor for $90,000. presidio terrace was auctioned off. the homeowners association owed the city $100,000 in back taxes. the taxes were due on this oval shaped street, the sidewalks and the green common area. it was owned by the presidio homeowners association. but the city was authorized by state law to sell the property back in 2003 because of unpaid taxes. the city didn't take any action until 2015. city officials say they followed all the necessary step to notify the homeowners association. >> when we get ready to auction, we have to send certified notices to the address of record. and publish a list in the newspaper. and send the list to the board of supervisors for their approval. >> now, the certified letter went to an address the homeowners say may have been used by an accountant that the association dealt with years ago. now, the new property owners say they were surprised to see this exclusive street up for sale and they are very happy they won the auction. to the south bay now where happening today the san jose city council could decide whether or not to move forward with a pilot program to build affordable housing for teachers. they want to create 16 new housing units for teachers that can't afford to live in san jose otherwise. it could face opposition from city council members because the proposed site is zoned for commercial use only. the time is now 7:38. a manhunt is underway in the south bay. what we're finding out about a late night box. >> the time is 7:41. in texas an investigation is underway after three boy scouts died from what is being called a freak accident. officials say they were sailing when their boat ran into an overhead power line. all three were electrocuted and the boat burst into flames. a younger scout later died at the hospital. investigators are looking into why the line was hanging so low. the time is 7:42. for the first time this year a bird in santa clara valley tested positive for west nile. crews will be out to start trapping mosquitoes. officials say the west nile virus activity statewide has been pretty low this year. only 115 dead birds confirmed to have that west nile virus compared to 718 at the same time last year. a new study shows many college students don't get enough to eat. nationwide 50% of community college students and 11% of four-year university students worry about having enough money to buy food. here in the bay area, the high cost of housing means students from middle class families can find themselves without enough money to buy food. some schools are setting up food pantries to help and encouraging students who qualify to apply for food stamps. the time is 7:43. every kid has backpacks but if they don't wear them the right way, they can have real physical problems. backpacks should weigh between 10 to 15% of the child's body weight. if it weighs too much, it not only changes the shape of the spine but can cause serious injuries. carry them with both straps on the shoulder and the one around the waist too and don't let them carry more than two textbook at a time. the bike share company line bike is launching 300 bikes in south san francisco. it is the latest bike sharing company to enter the market. bikes are docked as other services do. inland. you could be in the 90s or upper 70s or lower 80s in this pattern. we have significantly cooled down for some inland locations. near normal temps. 60s, 70s and 80s. except towards antioch and especially if you use fast track and come in on eat eight, very small delay. this is about a 10 to 15-minute delay. much better than yesterday at this time. the traffic is going to be okay. it is recovering now on the san mateo bridge finally. but still some of the approaches have to unwind due to an earlier crash on the bridge that was there for a bit. looking at the dumbarton bridge, that is slow all the way across to the peninsula. at 8:02. back to the desk. police are searching for whoever shot and killed the owner of a liquor store late last night. >> alex savidge is live at the scene with what you're learning about the victim, alex. >> heart breaking details is what we're learning this morning. the owner of this liquor store was gunned down right in front of his wife late last night. the husband and father of four was shot and killed by an armed robber who stormed into the business. you can see san jose police are still out here. they have the area blocked off as they gather evidence here at jim's liquor mart. it's inside of a shopping center near white and quimby roads. it happened just before 11:00 last night. the store owner who was killed was charlie ly. a masked man with a gun burst in demanding money. the victim's brother tells me that ly at the time was taking a nap on the floor inside of the store but woke up as the robbery unfolded. his brother says that ly refused to open the register and that's when the gunman opened fire on him. >> i don't know why. how much? $100. $200. kill people in cold blood. you know. ow. very sad. >> reporter: relatives tell me ly and his wife have owned the store for at least a decade and they work seven days a week here and they have been robbed in the past. the store does have surveillance cameras. police right now are working to try to pull some of that video from inside of the store that may be able to give them clues about who the gunman was last night, trying to identify the killer in this case or maybe get a description on a get-away car. again, that is all part of the unfolding investigation. obviously you have the family of the store owner heart broken by what has taken place. they're hoping that anyone out there with any information on this shooting last night will put in a call to san jose police. >> that's right. hopefully a lot of tips are pouring in. thank you, alex. two suspects in the deadly shooting and robbery of a 71- year-old man at twin peaks in san francisco is schedule today make an appearance appearance today. this is a booking photo of la monte mims. they were booked on charges of robbery, murder and possession of a gun. they robbed edward french as he was taking photos of the sunrise. days before the killing, mims was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon. that has the victim's friends and family asking why he was ever released from jail. >> he was arrested on the 7th. and he was released just four days later. it makes you question the judicial system when you have a convicted felon in possession of a firearm that is released on his own reconnaissance and commits a heinous crime five days later. >> the two are aalso accused of robbing a pair of tourists on july 28th. the man accused in the shooting death of kate steinly will be back in court today. lopez sanchez was in court yesterday as a judge discussed a scheduling issue. he is charged with first degree murder and accused of shooting kate steinly with a stolen gun. his lawyers say the gun went off accidentally. he is not an undocumented immigrant and had been deported five times. police have released the name of a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened on saturday. they are searching for alexander stewart who may have changed his hair style since this picture was taken. he should be considered armed and dangerous. it happened saturday morning at an apartment. the victim identified as 24- year-old jones of union city died at the scene. anyone with information about his location or motive in the shooting is urged to call police. president trump says his support is growing despite polling numbers that point otherwise. reporter doug luzader has more on the president's approval ratings and the reaction from washington, d.c. >> reporter: well, despite what the president may say, his current approval numbers are not the sort of thing that you want to head into an election with. but the bigger concern for the white house is whether the trump base is beginning to erode. president trump on what the white house bills as a working vacation at people were without power at one point. a 2-year-old was by a huge tree branch and is recovering from a fractured skull. the two were hitting under the heritage oak on the college campus saturday afternoon. the family was there for a picnic. now they want the school to investigate what caused the branch to come crashing down on their little girl without warning. >> it almost sounded like a house or something was collapsing. i never heard a sound like that. i wasn't sure what was going on. >> i was terrified. was terrified. i didn't know what to expect. you never know, right? it could have ended up worse. i could have been sitting here by myself. >> doctors say it could take weeks for her skull to heal. in the meantime she is on antibiotics and painkillers. we contacted the college a number of times to ask about what happened. the school has not responded to our request for information. chp officers in oakland and stockton are taking part in a pilot program to help the chp decide which body cameras to use. the officers are wearing body cams and the vehicles have cameras on the dashboard. the year-long pilot program began in november. the recordings have been used for documenting evidence, writing reports and court testimony. >> it allows the citizens and us to know that we're being transparent in what we do so they -- any type of incident that they can have the opportunity to view it after it has gone through the criminal procedures and released by the district attorney. >> after the program, the chp will decide which cameras worked west. the fbi is offering a $3,000 reward to help cap a bank robber known as the smiling face bandit. he has robbed six wells fargo banks in san francisco in less than three months. the most recent was saturday on irving street in the sunset. the agency has released surveillance pictures of the suspect. described as a white man between 5'6" and 5'8" with a slim build. at each bank he handed the teller a note demanding >> the market doesn't seem phased about the troubling manifesto with google stock down about one point. there has been plenty of reaction from the tech world where the troubling words do not come to a shock. james de moore out of a job with going of after writing a manifesto that women may not be biologically suit today work in the tech world. he submitted a charge to the national labor relations board that said that google's upper management tried to shame him into keeping quiet. the google ceo cut short his vacation to deal with this crisis. parts of de moore's manifesto crossed the line of standards by advancing harmful gender stereo types. fox 2 talked to women in tech. they say the sexist views in the manifesto do not come as a shock. >> my first experiences with real world gender bias was interviewing at google. when i saw this, i was zero percent prized. >> not only did they tell me i wasn't technical enough to be a software developer they suggested that i go into a marketing role. >> some women we talk to say the manifest owe can serve as motivation to excel. there is a challenge to the author of the document inviting him to a code off september 7th. but no word on whether he will accept that invitation. live in the san jose studio, jessie gary, ktvu fox 2 news. >> thank you, jessie. the firing comes after google's new vice president of diversity shared a statement with you yesterday. the company does not endorse the viewpoint but defends his right to express his opinion. do you think that going the employee should have been fired for expressing his opinion of women in an internal memo? let us know what you think by voting on twitter and also leave your comments on our facebook page. the time is 8:35. the final interview process for oakland's newest city commission gets started today. ktvu's allie rasmus is live in oakland to explain what we know about the candidates and the power that the board will have. >> reporter: yes. significant power when you compare it to the current or previous citizens review board over the police department. a total of 145 people applied to be on the board. the selection committee has narrowed it down to 28 candidates. they will start the interview process of the final candidates today. the final list of candidates include 14 men, 12 women, one person who listed themselves as transgender and another person declined to state. they come from a variety of backgrounds. from real estate developers to faith and community leaders to activists. the board will have seven permanent members and two alternates. three will be chosen by the mayor and four by the selection committee. the board approved the review board during last november's election. oakland has had a review board since the 1980s but this one will have more authority. some examples, make recommendations on the police department budget. they will be able to discipline officers involved in on duty incidents like officer-involved shootings. and if they have a majority vote, the board could even fire the police chief and suggest a replacement. >> i think that's a good idea. so there is some accountability. >> the police should probably oversee themselves a little bit. having the people, there could be a lot of differences of opinion, which would make it difficult for the police to do their jobs. >> definitely should have a say as to who is protecting us and how it is being protected and the money that is allotted for them. if it is being used properly. >> so a good then but you think it can go too far. >> yes. >> reporter: so definitely some mixed opinions there from people who live and work here in oakland. but the selection committee starts that interview process of the 28 final candidates this evening, starting at 5:30. the interviews will be about 20 minutes long they say and it will take a few days to finish those interviews. then the selection committee will deliberate rate and they hope to have i a final list of names to submit to the city council for full approval by the end of this month. back to you. >> thank you, allie. i'll mention that we are being joined by a council women and the head of the selection committee to talk more about the board getting underway. officers arrested 42-year- old mario washington yesterday in downtown oakland. he is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery. this arrest came a few hours after bart released these photos yesterday morning asking for the public's help to identify the suspect. he was on a train last thursday when he hit a man with bolt cutters and punched and kicked him. two days later he punched a passenger twice in the face on a train headed to the embarcadero station in san francisco. bart police say a fire investigator recognized the man in the photo and notified officers. had 2-year-old latham was in court yesterday at the east county hall of justice in dublin. he is accused of fatally stabbing a man who was in a personal relationship with him. latham's attorney says those who know him are shocked. >> they all describe him as a kind, intelligent and gentle soul and a loyal and trusted friend. what he is accused of is totally contrary to the way that he has lived his entire life. >> another man who police say was also involved in the crime, andrew warren, surrendered in san francisco on friday and is due in court this week. he is a british citizen and financial analyst for oxford university. university. flames could be seen from miles away. the building was a two-story home that was under construction. fire crews had to work around scaffolding and nearby homes were at risk. no reports of any injuries. we know that moms work hard. up next, what most mothers are having to go through to take care of their families. when you're clocking out. i'm the one clocking in & sensing your every move and automatically adjusting to help you stay effortlessly comfortable. there. i can even warm these to help you fall asleep faster. does your bed do that? pretty emotional response you will get. a new study shows that mother who's juggle kids and a paid job often work 98 hours a week. between cooking, cleaning, taking the kids to and from school, after school activities and doing everything else that the family needs. being a stay at home parent is a full-time job in and of itself. the study commissioned by welch's looked at 2,000 mothers in the u.s. with children between the ages of 5 and 12. on average, most moms clocked in at 6:30 in the morning and ended their motherly duties at 8:30 in the evening. moms report on average having about one hour 7 minutes to themselves each day. i clock in at 2:00 a.m. and clock out about 9:00 p.m. and i know the conversation most of my friends are working moms as well. we say too bad we have to sleep for the five or six hours. imagine how much more we could get done. >> i joke that work is mommy's break. a lot of women here are having their first children. sometimes you skip back to work. >> this isn't a break. i would classify this as you time. >> we have our expertise. >> true. >> this is something that we picked for ourselves. parent hood, i will find out in 18 years if we did okay. >> a lot of mothers and fathers, there are a lot of stay at home dads out there, they wouldn't have it any other way. >> the one sleepy i love you makes it all okay. >> for those who start early and you're there to pick them up for school, it is a critical time. >> we all make it work. >> let's check in with sal castaneda on the tuesday morning commute. good morning, sal. >> good morning, mike and gasia. there is slowing out there. the good thing about today's commute, at least it is better than yesterday's. this commute has been steady and slow but predictable, which is what people want in the morning. it is the same getting into the city. also looking at 880 northbound. san mateo bridge still recovering from earlier problems. at least you get the gist. things are on their way to being better by the 9:00 hour. 8:47. let's bring in steve with today's forecast. >> thank you, sal. a very good morning and foggy morning for many. this is a big fog bank. i think the pattern, we're on this turn, so to speak here, as the pattern has changed from what was just relentless heat for some in july. it is still going in sacramento. 41 straight days of 90 degrees or higher. crow is up in clear -- chloe is up in clearlake. the moon was full about 21 hours ago. right there. if you have the fog, you're like what full moon? i can't see anything but fog. had a comment from the santa cruz mountains in scotts valley that it was chilly. most in the upper 50s, low 60s and dealing with an extensive fog bank. it is the afternoon thunderstorms on monday that might pop up again, northern mendocino county and lake county. quiet now but there they were yesterday. again, if you're up near there, keep an eye out. even north of lake county. for the most part, up in shasta, redding, northeast california and over the sierra nevada. berkeley is 58. half moon bay is 58. oakland 59. a little warmer in the peninsula and south bay. 64 there. livermore, 62. fairfield, 61. so not much of a change. on shore breeze. the fog is all the way down, maybe pulls off a little bit in southern california. but there's a lot out there. low clouds and mist and drizzle in the forecast. light drizzle giving way. near normal temps. highs in the of 60, 70s, 80s. the inland temp are a little below average. near the bay, they're right where they should be. but a few low 90s. for most it is in the 70s and 80s if you're away from the coast. near the coast in the 60s and upper 60s. subtle changes, very quiet, mike. the key is next week. it looks unseasonably cooler as the system drops in. >> a's and giants both home. we don't get that often. >> no. >> student athletes stepping up to save a high school program in novato. statewide participation remains down. why some parents are opting to pull them children out of high school football. >> a new study shows many college students don't get enough to eat. the study by the urban institute found that 13% of community college students and 5% of four-year college students worry about having enough to eat. students from middle class families can even find themselves without enough money to buy food. some schools are setting up food pantries and encouraging students who qualify to apply for food stamps. a new report by the california public health department shows that vaccination rates for middle school children are at the highest rate ever. vaccination rates in the 58 counties are up since the vaccination law went into effect earlier this year. some counties are below 95%, making those children more vulnerable to disease. the new vaccine law requires all children attending school to be vaccinated unless there is a medical reason not to do so. with just days to go, the novato high school varsity team has been saved. >> we're the team that almost wasn't but now we're here to rebuild a positive culture. >> the team lost its cost recently and with the decrease in the number of players, the school had decided to stop the program this year. the community rallied to bring 25 players to the team which is enough to keep the program going. but the struggle to keep high school football players on the field is becoming a problem statewide. coaches say it could be because parents worry about concussions and the long-term effects of injuries. according to new numbers by the federation, participation in high school football has dropped by more than 3% statewide. a day camp in el cerrito exclusively for transgender children is gaining in popularity. enrollment has tripled over the past three summers. there is plenty of arts and crafts and singing and sports. but the big difference here is the focus on acceptance and inclusion. ion. >> for this young person to go into a space and look around and say, i'm not the only one. there are other people like me, it can be life changing. if i had had a space that opened up for me and said wait a minute, let's see how you're feeling about being a girl and let's kind of listen to these thought that's are coming up about this doesn't feel right to me and there might be something happening here. if someone had stopped and created that space for me, it would have changed a lot. >> the camp is designed for gender fluid and transgender children from preschool through elementary school. the camp's founder created another camp designed for transgender teenagers. steph curry is giving back to children. you have to be invited to this camp. should equal o'neal's son was there. curry teamed up with under armour, basketball and chase to host the game. it is being held at 6:00 tonight in san francisco. the event is free but will be limited to the first 2,000 people. is the bay area gearing up for a bike share battle? up next, more on the new service that launches today that promises to be faster and more affordable than existing bike shares. >> in texas an investigation is underway after three boy scouts died from what is being called a freak accident. officials say the three scouts were sailing when they ran into an overhead power line. investigators are now looking into why that line was hanging so low. a san bruno woman is facing charges after police say she was drunk when she crashed her car over the weekend with a child sitting in her lap and kept driving. 47-year-old stefani was arrested sunday night and charged with dui and child endangerment. witnesses say she crashed her suv into two parked cars in the 2200 block of evergreen and left the scene. police found her a few weeks away. the child was not injured. we could hear opening statements in a trial involving pop star taylor swift and a former colorado radio d.j. swift sat in court as potential jurors were being questioned. robber mueller first filed suit against swift claiming she and her team got him fired from his job on the morning show. swift says he slipped his hand up her dress before a concert. in a photo the hand can be seen below her waist. this makes it a case of he said she said. mueller believes that swift should have gone to police, not his bosses. she aunt whatted to keep the matter discreet and out of the public eyes. san francisco officials agree that the sea wall needs a lot of work in the next 30 years. it needs to be able to hold up in a strong earthquake as well as pry vent a rising sea level from flooding the city. voters will be asked to approve a $350 million bond measure in november that would pay for the most needed repairs. even if that is passed, the city would need another $145 million to complete phase one of the project. phase two to cost another $5 billion. happening today, line bike is launching three hundred bikes in south san francisco. it doesn't have stations where the bikes are docked. instead you download the app and find a bike nearby. then you unlock the bike and take off. when you're done, park it at a bike rack or other location. it costs $1 for a 30-minute ride. if you're looking to hit the jackpot, you have two chances. both above the $300 million mark. tomorrow night's powerball jackpot is topped at $307 million. neither jackpot is close to a record but it is still $300 million. not that bad. >> with that, we welcome you right here to the 9. giving you a live look outside. highway 24 on a tuesday morning. overcast skies across much of the bay area. very cool this week in all of the counties here. i want to talk about nicholas durtz. >> yes. >> your school. >> yes. >> we're talking about mega millions and so on. it gets $334,000. the ex chancellor of cal. he gets a year off but
