freeways are light as well 4:02, going back to the desk. developing news in the east bay, heavy police activity in east oakland after suspects opened fire on undercover police officers. ktvu's reporter alex savidge live on the scene, this has brought out the chief of police. >> reporter: the chief was down here a short time ago. i had a chance to speak with him and a sense of relief because he confirmed no police officers were injured in the shooting late last night. he tells me someone, three men opened fire on to undercover officers last night. two of those men have been taken into custody, a third remains outstanding. that's what you see the police presidents out here this morning. we're at the section of 55th ave. and foothill boulevard. as you can see, quite a few police officers are out here we've also seen members of s.w.a.t. out here as well. they are searching for one man sought to be armed, in his 20s. again, he is thought to be armed and obviously believed to be quite dangerous given the circumstances. the chief tells me this all began with a homicide investigation last night on the 1400 block of 90th ave. he tells me there were to undercover detectives who are in that area working follow-up on a homicide investigation, that's when someone opened fire on those to undercover officers. the officers were not hit by the gunfire, and people who fired those shots then drove away from that scene and wound up in this particular neighborhood where we are this morning. they actually crashed her car. patrol officers were able to move in and take two of those people into custody. again, a man remains outstanding and obviously a very dangerous and volatile situation. they want to make sure they can find this person as quickly as they can. listen to the chief. >> this person used violence unprovoked. it's a dangerous person. we want to get them off the street. >> reporter: and again, many streets in this area blocked off here with police officers this morning. we're at the intersection of 50 fifth avenue and foothills. but if you go all the way down for about five or six blocks, this entire area is closed off and police try to close in on an armed man believed to have been one of three people involved in a shooting up on undercover officers late last night. they were doing a homicide investigation and they were fired upon, we did confirm with the chief a short time ago, those officers were not hit by gunfire. we obviously, pam, will stay out here and continue to monitor the fluid situation. a major search underway in the neighborhood, we will let you know when i find them and they are looking for. >> perfect. we'll check in with you throughout the morning. in the meantime, baltimore police commissioner batts says the city works overnight despite confrontations with protesters. police and a group of demonstrators and reporters scattering by firing smoke canisters into the crowd about 10 people were arrested overnight, most of them for violating the 10 pm curfew. at least one officer was hurt during the scuffle with demonstrators. baltimore's public schools are reopening this morning for the first time since the riots began. reporter rich edson reporting. >> reporter: guard troops and police officers are on the streets to enforce the curfew. >> this is about preserving the public peace. if we find someone in violation of the curfew and a decision is made that they are not out for one of the purposes we talked about, they will be arrested. >> reporter: protesters, largely peaceful, filled the streets on tuesday. police say they fired pepper bullets responding to thrown bricks. authorities are hoping to avoid a repeat of monday's violence when rioters burned 150 cars and police arrested more than 200. >> we've been here all day and will continue to be here until the threat of violence ends. acts of violence and instruction of property cannot and will not be tolerated. >> reporter: officials are facing questions about those rights that started hours after the funeral of freddie gray. officials charge more could have been done to protest the violence. they claim it is a factor. >> do you want people using force on 14-year-olds, 15-year- old and 16-year-old kids out there? they are old enough to know better, they are old enough not to do those things but they are still kids, unfortunately. we had to take that into account. >> reporter: officials in baltimore say they continue the nightly curfews for a two-week period in baltimore, rich edson, fox news. this is causing the baltimore orioles to take an extraordinary step. the team will play against the chicago white sox without any fans. it'll be the first time in baseball major league history that again will be closed to the public. the orioles say this allows the police department to send officers to other parts of the city rather than patrolling the ballpark. the orioles are to canceled its monday and tuesday nights game. their weekend series against tampa bay will be moved to florida. in the bay area, protesters marched through oakland to show solidarity with protesters in baltimore. demonstrators munched through downtown oakland and ended up at police headquarters, earlier they went to the west oakland station and held an impromptu rally. the protests were smaller than monday ninth demonstration in worse than santa clara and solano counties. experts say that air mostly impacts elderly, children and those with asthma. preparing to close to more fire stations and layout firefighters after voters rejected a tax assessment in east fire district that would have raised more than $4 million a year for the next five years. two of the fire stations will be close, for firefighters laid off leaving just nine on duty. five years ago that same district couple number of stations from 8 to 5. station 52 in brentwood was closed last september. now the one in ninth and will be shut down as well. >>
