welcome to mornings on two. it's saturday january 25th. >> let's get a check of weather with rosemary. good morning. >> good morning. another mild day in the forecast. we are starting out with high clouds this morning. because of those some of us not as cold as where we were yesterday morning. i will have a look at the current temperatures. it's a good thing a spare the air day is in place for today which means it's not okay to burn in your fireplace ums you are exempt. in the extended forecast, the potential for changes. whether or not we will see rain. i will line up that future cast model for you. >> new this morning a car hits a home in antioch and then rolls over into a second house with two people inside. it happened just after midnight. we are live in the city of antioch with a look at the damage. >> reporter: pg&e crews are on the scene because when this crash happened that car took out a power box and knocked out the power to this neighborhood. here is a look at the damage. when this car came out of control it hit the side of this house you are looking at off to the left and then it rolled into the home right here next to us. now this home has been boarded up but this is what the damage looked like earlier this morning there were people inside the homes when the crash happened. fortunately nobody was hurt. in fact the woman who lives in one of the homes had just gotten out of the hospital. her son-in-law said she came home hour days ago. she slept through this. >> i walked in, check if she was okay. i asked if she was okay. she said yeah and went back to sleep. >> >> reporter: the driver of the -- the driver wasn't seriously injured. police say that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors but police say it looks like excessive speed was a factor. that's why the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was coming down the street near san jose drive. again, taking a look we can see pg&e trucks. there is a pg&e truck heading out right past us. down at the end of this intersection you can see the lights flashing at that stop light. we have a call into pg&e to try to find out how many people still are without power. when we get that information we will bring it to you. live in antioch. ktvu channel 2news. >> new this morning the chp is investigating a deadly accident on highway 24 in oakland involving a pedestrian. the pedestrian was hit several -- by several cars and died at the scene. the chp trying to find if the person was on the freeway because his motorcycle broke down on interstate 980. three drivers stopped and are coop cooperating. . one person is in critical condition this morning after being hit by a car while sitting at a bus stop. it happened about 10:30 last night at 30th and mission street. police say that a car lost control and crash into that bus stop where a person was sitting inside. that person was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. police say they are questioning the driver. >> a elementary schoolteacher is facing charges on suspicious of serving her colleagues food laced with marijuana. the 47-year-old is a first grade teacher at matthew turner elementary. police say several of her colleagues got sick after eating food she brought to a off campus party in november. one woman had blood tests done and learned there was thc in her his stem, the active -- in her system. >> one of the people there took some of the food home and their 15-year-old ate this food and became ill. >> reporter: police say that the woman apparently told some of the people at the party she brought food with marijuana in it. according to the times she has been a teacher in the district for 18 years. she has been put on administrative leave during the investigation. an oakland family is pleading for a 14 boy accused of killing his sister to turn himself in. he was last seen in the china town neighborhood on thursday where he allegedly shot his 17- year-old sister. family members said that justice was shot after an argument about laundry. now the family said they are not sure what sparked the argument and are begging the 14- year-old to come forward. >> he said he was sorry. he was scared. he is scared now. think the police going to kill him. i plead for him to come home or call someone. >> police say that they do consider him armed and dangerous because the weapon used in the killing has not been recovered. anyone with information is asked to call the police. >> federal regulators have approved safety changes at the hospital after a patient died in a locked stair well. the 57-year-old lynn spaulding was found dead last october. 17 days after going missing. . they the new safety plan was signed off on. the informs include daily checks of all stair wells, a bracelet check system for nurses and nurses must check patients and make sure they are accounted for. government monitoring will continue. >> for this investigation it is now concluded. we are no longer deficient and our plan of correction has shown we are safer and we have a plan to become safer still. >> new regulations also in place for the sheriff's department which is responsible for security at the hospital. >> the state senate is holding hearings on claims caltrans pressured engineers to keep quiet about construction proproblems on the new span of the bay bridge. this is a live look a report shows caltrans found thousands of cracks in welds for the tower but replaced the managers who reported the problems. the report also claims that officials ignored warnings in 2008 that rods for the span had not been properly tested. >> i was specifically directed not to look in areas that i knew there were cracks. >> engineers say he were told not to put their concerns in writing but the director of caltrans insists the bridge is safe and will last 150 years. >> i have no evidence or no reason to believe that there was any force or anything like that and bullying to make determinations. >> engineers who tested say they testified said they believe the bridge is safe but the problems will result in more maintenance down the road. >> happening today san francisco's tenth the deadline after a judge ruled that she is legally dead. that means that a texas law state that a pregnant woman cannot be remove from life support does not apply. the case is a rallying part for anti abortion but family members say the unborn baby can't survive outside the womb. >> sad situation all the way around. we are relieved that eric can now move forward with the process of burying his wife. >> she has been on life support since november. the hospital said it had no choice because of the texas law. the case in texas has been watched by supporters of a oakland family who fought to keep their daughter on life support. she was taken to a medical facility earlier this month from object land children's hospital. family went to court for the right to keep her on life support. children's hospital had argued the ventilator should have been removed because she is legally dead. she was declared brain dead. >> the number of people killed by the flu has taken a big jump. state released a staggering update that shows the number of flu deaths have doubled since the start of the season to 95 today with another 51 deaths that may be flu related. to put that in perspective there world meeting of families conference. the vatican has not made an official announcement. that has the president prepares to meet with the pope in march. >> there has been another big data breach, this time affecting employees of coco cola. laptops containing the person information of up to 74,000 people were taken from its atlanta headquarters. most was from current and former employees. the company said that the laptops contain names and social security numbers along with addresses and information on compensation. california's latest unemployment numbers show a modest improvement the jobless rate fell to 8.3% in december, that's down from 8.5% in november. a according to the employment development department 1.5 million are still out of a job. sectors with job growth include professional and business services, tourists and transportation but manufacturing and construction lost jobs. solano has the highest unemployment rate at 7.3% followed by contra costa with 6.4%. marin has the lowest jobless rate in the state with just 4.2%. both san francisco and san mateo are now also below 5%. >> in an attempt to get leaner wal-mart is cutting more than 2,000 jobs at its sam's club discount stores. the bay area has two sam's clubs, one there are 2300 layoffs nationwide with nearly half being assistant managers. sam's club has been facing stiff competition from cosco and amazon. mailing a letter with the post office will cost you more very soon. tomorrow the price of a stamp is set to go up 49-cents. that's three cents more than now and the largest increase in more there is a question mark on there because the future cast models have misled us in the past and it could happen again. i will show you what i'm talking about. high clouds in the forecast today, high clouds again for tomorrow. now we are into monday. notice there is a storm here. it doesn't look like it'll bring us anything but washington, oregon, maybe the north corner of california seeing some of it. now we are already into thursday. this is the system that i'm talking about that could bring a knew scattered showers to the bay area. we are still several days out. it could change but that is the next possibility at getting some rain. in the extended forecast here notice not a lot of change going on for your weekend. today is a spare the air day. this morning temperatures in the 40s for most. few low 50s around the bay. by lunchtime widespread low to mid60s in the forecast and then for the afternoon. 60s at the coast a few low 70s out there. we will continue with this as we get into sunday. monday we do turn mostly cloudy a little more cloud cover on that icon and the future cast model that won't bring us any rain -- temperatures don't budge a lot. the afternoon upper 60s -- let's take a look now at some of our top stories. we are following for you a car slammed into a home in antioch and then rolled over into a second house. it happened just after midnight. pg&e crews are still on the scene trying to restore power at this hour. nobody was hurt. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. chp is investigating a deadly accident on highway 24 involving a pedestrian. the pedestrian was hit by several vehicles and died at the scene. chp is looking there to if that person that was hit ended up on the freeway after breaking down an a motorcycle on interstate 980. three drivers stopped at the scene and are cooperating police. a elementary school teaching is facing charges on suspicious of sec her colleagues food laced with marijuana. police say and the officer who accidentally shot him. bart police sergeant thomas smith was accidentally shot to death tuesday afternoon by another officer. it happened during a probation search at an apartment in dublin. the attorney said they were co workers and friends. >> officer mays mayes is very concerned with how sergeant smith's family is doing and he extends his love and consideration to them. >> friendly fire shootings are hard for law enforcement because it's a tight knit community. the funeral for detective sergeant tom smith will happen on wednesday at ten at the neighborhood church of castro valley. it's located on john drive and is known as the three crosses church. we are learning more about a deadly accident on the railroad tracks near the santa clara caltrain station. the man who died monday night was trying to save the life of a stranger. he was trying to pull a man on the train tracks to safety when he was hit. >> he put his life in danger for someone else. he was that type of person. >> the man he was trying to help is in critical condition at the hospital a memorial is going to be held on february 10th at the veteran's memorial building. >> students students are on alert after a male student reported being kidnapped on campus and sexually assaulted. the male student said there was someone in the backseat of his car armed with a gun who ordered him to drive to mill valley. he said that is where he was assaulted a text alert was sent out yesterday to warn students. >> there is always people, there are cops all round the campus. someone getting assaulted here is just nerve-wracking. >> investigators say that the victim was able to escape and get help. deputies say the person who did the crime is an african american man around 6'2'', between 220 and 235 pounds. a man accused of a hate crime in 2008 has been sentenced to 31 years. robert ortiz pleaded guilty in connection to a gang rape the victim was walking home when she was attacked by members of a street gang. ortiz was 15 at the time. two others have also been convicted. >> the president said that he has ordered his administration to deal with the issue of sexual violence. >> sexual assault is a an affront to basic decency. it's about all of us ; our moms, our wives, our daughters, and our sons. >> in this morning's weekly address he discussed his efforts to stop sexual assault. it's estimated that one in five women is a assaulted in college. that's why this week he signed an order establishing a white house task force to look at the issue and to help schools better protect its students. a home invasion robbery has residents in marin worried. it happened yesterday. police say three men forced their way into the home. the victim a man in his 20s said the men tied him up and put him in a closet before ransacking his home. the victim was able to untie himself and call the police. neighbors say that the incident has left them nervous. >> could have within our house. i was home. we could have been take every over. doesn't make me feel good. police say the suspect stole a number of items including an i-pad. investigators say they are looking at video captured belonging to nearby residents. >> and police are asking for the public's help finding three people accused of robbing an elderly couple. all three are in their 20s. they have released this sketch of one of the men who is 6 feet tall, 180 pounds. police say the three forced their way into the home thursday morning and ordered the couple in their 80s to lie down on the floor. they got away with wallets, cash and an unloaded gun. the couple was not hurt but they were shook up. police are asking the public to look for a stolen car that was used during burglaries in two neighborhoods. they say it's a gray 2009 four door honda fiat. itpolice say its been used in burglaries in the north oakland. one of the robbers is a heavy set white male, the others a blond white female. anyone with information about this case is asked to call police. and the city of oakland is holding an unusual give away today to help stop vehicles from being stolen or broken into. 200 steering wheel lock also be handed out on a first come first serve basis. it starts at 9:00 a.m. on clinton square park. the oakland mayor and police chief will be at that event. >> a surfer won the top prize and some major bragging rights at the maverick surf competition near half moon bay. >> thousands of people watched at grant baker rode away with the title and that 30,000- dollar prize. people are not allowed on the beach for the competition. >> been a little spotty right off the get go but the waves are big. when the sets do come they are monsters. civil now baker also won the 2006 contest. some of the others came from as far sacramento has broken 130 year old dry weather record. tomorrow will be the 50th day without rain. the old winter drought record was 46 days back in 1884. water levels in many sacramento area lakes are at alarmingly low levels. sacramento has directed those living and working in the city to reduce water use by 20 to 30%. the city of roseville is turning on all four of its water well pumps. >> this had be the first time ever that all four of them have run and delivered water to the customers. >> city officials say turning on all the wells could help the city cope with water issues during the drought. the wells come from an aquifier350 feet below the city. next week texas law will be turned -- they will be turned on and will stay on until it rains. >> the question is, any rain in the forecast? let's turn to rosemary for a check of any wet weather. >> the potential is coming. although we won't see it for a few days. looks like thursday may be the day where the bay area sees some wet weather. between now and then, high clouds in the forecast. it was hard to miss them yesterday and they are back with us again for today. they really never left. because of it our temperatures are up. those clouds helping insulate us. isn't that a beautiful shot over downtown oakland this morning. most of us in the 40s. even a few low 50s. let's take a look. storm tracker two. i have the water vapor on for you a little bit of the cloud cover. continues to surge in from the south. for today we will continue with high clouds in the forecast. partly to mostly cloudy skies, white sky at time with a little bit of sun in between. temperatures will remain above average. they will be a lot like where we stood yesterday afternoon oakland warmed to about 70 degrees. with the high clouds in place it doesn't seem as warm. mild, remaining above average. still perhaps a light jacket going to be handy today. 43 in napa. 42nevado. it's still a chilly start if you are stepping out early. just not as cold as where we were yesterday. santa rosa about 10 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. along the peninsula other 50 at sfo, and the inland east bay waking up in the 40s as well. let's head to the north. 43 degrees in north -- along the peninsula, chilly, 42 for foster city. sunnyvale 46, so, we will begin to see the temperatures turn around now that the sun is up. we will remain with the clouds in place. let me show you what i mean. through saturday we are in and out. mostly sunny and then in to the evening we will be clearing out with high clouds in the forecast remaining for sunday as well. today is a spare the area day. look at the air quality for your area. above the 100 air quality index for the north bay and the santa clara valley. into the afternoon, we will see the partly to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 70s in areas like vacaville and fairfield. 68nevado, the east bay 66 for you, oakland 71, for the south bay this afternoon, 71 in morgan hill, 69 for with the dry, mild weather for the second half of your weekend. i do think we will see a localized on shore breeze in the afternoon. perhaps along the coastline and just inside the bay we may feel that into the afternoon. on monday, we do have an increase in clouds coming our way but no rain at this point. northern california could be clipped with a few scattered showers, tuesday, wednesday, partly cloudy and mild. as i said at the beginning of the forecast looks like thursday we may have a possibility of a few scattered showers. i will have a look at your saturday lunchtime numbers. >> just before 8:00 last night a van sideswiped a couple of cars on interstate 80. it then went through a fence and across an on-ramp where it hit more cars. officers say that they found the female driver ununconscious. >> a man who captured cell phone video of a border patrol agent kicking and punching a undocumented immigrant has been arrested and he claims its revenge. he said border patrol agents demanded the video. he gave it over but they also wanted his help finding a second undocumented immigrant who got away he refused then got a call from his probation officer saying the ankle bracelet he has to wear was not working properly and he was arrested when he wept into have that device checked. >> it's to me strange that before video no problems, after video big problems for jose. >> he said he was under monitoring after being convicted in a road rage incident last year. the border patrol denies excessive force was used in the arrest that he videotaped. a museum dedicated to the 911 attacks will open this spring but a plan to charge an admission fee has some upset. critics say that the museum should be free to enter so anyone can learn about the attacks and the more than 3,000 people who died. supporters say it's necessary to fund museum operations. survivors and first responders will get in free. >> vallejo place say it's new crime fighting strategy is working. >> reporter: john's left hand is torn up, his wife has a wound. their dog has several deep bite marks and worst of all is a poodle who had the back of her neck ripped open. >> almost like shell shock. happened so fast. >> last thing i expected was to have to fight for my life. >> reporter: it happened wednesday evening. the four of them went went for a walk. when they got here a few blocks from home three pit bulls charged them going for the dogs. one latched onto the poodle. >> she was screaming, death cry, her face was up at me so i could see terror. >> reporter: she said she was knocked to the ground but kept hanging onto the dog. >> her life was in danger. she could have been killed. >> reporter: he said that as he tried to help the dog the pit bull bit him. >> grabbed my hand and started chewing it up . >> reporter: he took out this knife and stabbed the attacking dog in the ribs. the dog retreated and by then neighbors and the owners had pulled the dogs away. the owners of the dogs would not go on camera. they said the dogs got out by jumping over this fence. that the dogs have always been friendly, never aggressive but they do not have dog licenses. >> i think that the community awareness needs to be if you have a pet you need to realize how strong they are and the responsibility behind owning a dog. >> that was rob reporting. the dogs now at the animal shelter. it appears their fates are unknown. the couple wants them put down but the owners want them spared. the hue mine society needs help after rescuing 61 dogs. it pushed them beyond capacity but it said it had to take them. many had heart worms and fractured teeth. the shelter is now in need of line in, s, dog bowls and other supplies. they are also asking for volunteers to help with laundry, or to antioch and then rolls over into a second house with two people inside. it happened just after midnight. we are live in the city of antioch. i can see pg&e still on scene. >> reporter: that's right. they are in the process of replacing a power block that was knocked out by this crash. now that the sun is up we can get a better view of how this crash happened. this car was traveling eastbound just past san jose drive. it hit the median you see there. sped across the oncoming lanes of traffic, hit that power box that you see pg&e crews working to replace right now and then the car kept going. it actually struck and clipped the side garage of this green house, rolled and crashed into the white house right next door. nobody was injured in this crash. the driver was able to walk away from it. the clean up has been underway since midnight. pg&e crews are in the process of replacing the power box. power is out for four to five homes. this is what the scene looked like. you can see a big mess and a gaping hole in the side of one of the homes. there were people inside both of the homes when the car crashed into it but again, nobody was injured. >> all i heard was two woman booms, probably one when he hit the box and the other when the box blew. by the time i got out it was a crowd. >> we thought someone was breaking in. we walked outside and that's what we find in the front yard a car. one of those things you always ski see see on the news but not in your front yard. >> reporter: the son-in-law, one of the residents said his mother-in-law had surgery. she was still on her medication and he said she didn't wake up after the car crashed into her house. the cause of the crash is under investigation. police say that it appears that the driver did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol. they believe that excessive speed may have been the reason that the driver lost control of his car. back out here live, pg&e crews say that they have to completely replace the power box that the car took out and redo some of the wiring cabs. they expect to be out for most of the day, also a hazmat crew cleaning up some of the oil. you can see out on the sidewalk and into the gutter that died at the scene. they are trying find out if the victim was on the freeway because the motorcycle broke down. three drivers stopped on the scene. the freeway was shut down for more than an hour. all lanes back open. one person is in critical condition after being hit by a car while sitting at a bus stop. it happened about 10:30. police say that a car lost control and crashed into a bus 1207 where one person was sitting inside. police say that they are questioning the driver. >> a elementary schoolteacher is facing three felony charges on suspicious charges suspicious of serving her colleagues food laced with marijuana. she is a first grade teacher at matthew turner. several co workers got sick after eating food she brought to a party. one woman had tests done and learned there was thc in her system. >> one of the people there took some of the food home and their 15-year-old ate this food and became sick. >> police say that she apparently told some of the people at the party that she brought food with marijuana in it. according to the times she has been a teacher in the district for 18 years. she has been put on administrative leave during the investigation. >> a family is pleading for a 14-year-old boy accused of killing his sister to turn himself inful mario tolliver was last seen when he allegedly shot his sister. family initially said that she was shot after an argument about laundry but now they say they don't know what sparked that argument and they are begging that 14-year-old to come forward. >> he said he was sorry. he was scared. he is scared now. we think the police going to kill him. i plead for him to come home or call someone. >> police say that they do consider him armed and dangerous because the weapon used in the killing has not been recovered. anyone with information on his where abouts is asked to call police. >> federal regulators have approved safety changes at the hospital after a patient died in a locked stair well. lend spaulding was found dead last october after going missing 17 days earlier. . the hospital's new safety plan was signed off on. the reforms include daily security checks of all emergency stair wells, a bracelet tracking system for any patient who are at risk of wandering away and if a stair well alarm rings nurse also now be required to make sure all patients are accounted for. hospital officials also say that government monitoring will continue. >> for this investigation it is now done. we are no longer deficient and the plan of correction has shown we are safer and we have a plan to become safer still. >> new regulations are also in place for the sheriff's department which is responsible for security at the hospital. >> the senate is holding hearings on claim that caltrans press pressured engineers to stay quiet on problems in cracks and welds on the bridge. the managers say they were relaced for reporting the problems. the report also says that bridge officials ignored show a modest improvement. the rate fell to 8.3% in december. that is down from 8.5% in november. however, according to the employment development department, 1.5 million are still out of a job. sectorssector -- manufacturing and construction did loose jobs. solano has the highest unemployment rate followed by contra costa, marin has the lowest jobless rate in the state with 4.1%. both san francisco and san mateo are now also below 5%. well, in an attempt to get leaner wal-mart is cutting more than 2,000 jobs at its sam's club discount stores. the bay area has two sam's clubs, one in concord, the other in vacaville. there are 2300 layoffs nationwide with nearly half being assistant managers. others will be hourly workers, sam's clubs have been facing stiff competition from cosco and amazon. >> today san francisco international is going to hold a ceremony for its new boarding area. boarding area e in terminal three has had a $138 million makeover. it'll open for business on terrifying moments at two thomes in antioch a car hitting a house and then rolling over into the neighbor's yard. good morning. welcome back to mornings on two. >> people were inside the home at the time of the crash and the impact knocked out power in the neighborhood. we are live in antioch with a look at the damage. >> reporter: yeah. it's amazing. nobody was injured in any of this. we talked to the people who live in this house. they moved in november and the guy who lives here said it looks like a tornado came through the front yard. you can see a lot of the debris, pieces of insulation, parts of his neighbor's wall, the two front windows blown out. all of this happened when a driver lost control of his car and that driver slammed into this home. before he slammed in to the home the car clipped the corner garage of the house next door and knocked out a power box that pg&e crews still trying to replace. if we pan up a liting to the left -- a little to the left you can see the guys -- the hazmat crews to clean up some of the oil that spilled. this is what the scene looked like shortly after the crash happened just after midnight. you can see a gaping hole in the side of one of the homes before it was boarded up. there were people inside, both of these homes when the car collided into the homeos and amazingly nobody was hurt. even the driver of the car was able to walk away from this crash. >> we woke up to like a huge bang and actually thought someone was coming in the window. my mom sleeps in the bedroom where it cracked the wall and broke the glass and the bedroom where she was. walked outside and there were people everywhere and the car was upside down in the yard. >> reporter: the cause of the crash is under investigation. police say that the driver didn't concerned and deeply concerned with how sergeant smith's family is doing and he extends his love and consideration to them. >> friendly fire shootings are difficult for law enforcement because it's as the three crosses church. >> we are learning more about a deadly accident on the railroad tracks near the caltrain station. police say a man who died was trying to save the life of a stranger. he was trying to pull a man lying on the train tracks to safety when he was hit. >> he would endanger his life for someone else. he is that type of person. >> the man he was trying to help is in critical condition a memorial will be held on february 10th at the veteran's memorial veteran's memorandum building. >> a home invasion robbery has some worried. it happened yesterday at about 11:30. police say that three men forced their way into a home. the victim a man in his 20s said the man tied him up and put him in a closet before they ransacked his home. the victim was able to untie himself and then call the police. they say that the incident has left them very nervous. >> could have been our house. i was home. could have been taken over as well. doesn't make me feel good or safe. >> police say that the robbers stole a number of items including an i-pad, they say that people in the neighborhood had security cameras and they are now reviewing the video. >> students at the college of marin are on alert after a male student reported being kid kidnapped is sexually assaulted. it happened thursday night in parking lot 13. the male student said that there was someone in the backseat of his car armed with a gun who ordered him to drive to mill valley. he said that's where he was assaulted a text alert was sent out yesterday to warn students. >> there is always people, there is cops all round. thinking of something getting attacked is nerve-wracking. >> the victim was able to escape the person who committed the crime was an african american man around 6'2'', between 220 and 235 pounds. a richmond man accused of a hate crime has been sentenced to 31 years. robert ortiz plead guilty in connection to a gang rape. the victim was walking home when she was attacked by a street gang. ortiz was 15 at the time. two others have also been convicted of the crime. >> the president said that he has ordered his administration to deal with the issue of sexual violence. >> it's an sacramento has broken a 130 year old dry record. tomorrow will be the 50th day without any rainfall. the old winter drought record was 46 dries back in 1884. water levels in many area lakes and reservoirs are at alarmingly low levels. sacramento has directed those living and working in the city to reduce water useage by 20 to 30%. the city of roseville is turning on all four of its water well pumps. >> this could be the first time ever that all four of these wells have one and delivered water. >> turning on all of them could help the city cope with water issues during the drought. they come from an aquafier located 350 feet below the city. next week they will be turned on and will stay on until it rains enough to help the water supply. >> the governor is asking the california supreme court to o the high speed rail project. two lower court rulings are preventing them from selling voter approved bonds. they are also requiring the authority to write a new financing plan. the governor is arguing that the rulings could hurt the state's ability to finance other voter approved projects in the future. san francisco's delores park will get a $12.4 million face lift on thursday. the commission approved the construction start in march. planned improvements include renovating the basketball court and new rest rooms. about half of the park will have to be closed. work is expected to be complete by spring of 2015. >> a couple is recovering after being attacked by pit bulls during an evening walk. rob roth tells you how they managed to fight off the dogs. >> reporter: josh's left hand is torn up. his wife is wounded, their dog has bite marks and their poodle had the back of her neck ripped open. >> almost like shell shock. happened so fast. >> last thing i expected was have to fight for my life. >> reporter: it happened wednesday evening. the four of them went for their usual walk when they got here -- a few blocks from home three pit bulls charged them going for the dogs. one latched on to the poodle's neck. >> she was screaming, death cry, she had her face was up at me so i could see terror. >> reporter: she was knocked to the ground but kept hanging on. >> her life was in danger. she could have been killed. >> reporter: he said that as he tried to help the dog the pit bull bit him. >> grabbed my hand and started chewing it. >> reporter: he took out this knife and stapped it in -- stabbed it. by then neighbors and the owners pulled the dogs away. the owners of the pit bulls wouldn't go on camera. they said the dogged jumped over a small fence, that they have always been friendly, never aggressive but they do not have dog licenses. >> i think that the community awareness needs to be if you have a pet, you need to realize how strong they are and the responsibility behind owning a dog. >> and that was rob roth reporting. the dogs are now at the animal shelter. their fate is uncertain. the couple wants them put down but the owners want them spared. >> the humane society is asking for help after rescuing 61 dogs. tuesday's rescue has pushed that facility beyond capacity but they said they had no choice but to take them in. many of the dogs were suffering lice, heart worm and fractured teeth. the shelter is now in need of linets, dog bowls and other supplies. they are also asking volunteers to help with laundry or to foster the dogs. >> a man who cop -- captured video of a border patrol agent kicking a undocumented immigrant has been arrested and he thinks its revenge for releasing the video. he said agents came and demanded the video. he gave it over but they also wanted his help finding a second undocumented immigrant who got it. he refused and then got a call from his probation officer saying the ankle bracelet he is required to wear was not working properly. he was arrested when he went into have the device checked. >> it's to me strange that before the video no problems, after video, big problems for jose. >> he said he was under monitoring after being convicted in a road rage incident last year. the border patrol denies excessive force was used in the videotaped arrest. >> the affordable care act reaches an important milestone. three million have signed up for the coverage. however, that number is far less than the seven million administration ha hoped for by the end of september. supporters say they are encouraged that a growing number are taking advantage, critics say that the number is inflated because it includes those who have not yet to make their first payment and the industry considers someone enrolled after they pay their first month. nursing homes run by nuns in denver won't have to provide birth control. the supreme court has ruled they are exempt under the new law. they rule that they don't have to comply with that rule if they send their objections to the department of health and human services in writing. the health care law requires most plans to cover birth control. churches are exempt but other organizations that are associated with religious groups not. >> a museum dedicated to the 911 attacks will open this spring but a plan to charge $24 admission has some upset. critics of the fee say that the museum should be free to enter so anyone can learn about the attacks and the more than 3,000 people who died. they say the fee is necessary to fund museum operations. up. he gained national attention for his post game interview last weekend but now the seahawks quarterback has been slapped a fine for what he did during the game. richard sherman was fined 7, 8 8$75 for unsports man like conduct in the final minutes of the championship game against the 49ers. sherman was flagged after he made that choking gesture right there toward the san francisco bench, that he said was directed at the quarterback. seattle went onto win 23-17. >> while the tfl can't do anything about the weather they are trying to make sure other problems won't pop up during the super bowl. workers have tested the lights at met life stadium and say that the electrical system is working fine the league wants to make sure there won't be a repeat of the last super bowl in which the game between the 49ers and the ravens was stopped for more than 30 minutes due to a power outage. around $100 million expected to be bet on the game at cast casinos. some of the more unusual betting include the lowest temperature, the length of the national anthem, which song bruno mars will preform first and will any member of the red hot chili peppers be shirtless. casinos say they are worry claim he was drag racing, a police report he and a friend in another car were going between 55 and 60. however according to tmz the rented sports cars had gps monitors that track speed and tmz said one of them briefly reached 52 but most cars were -- mostly cruising at about 27 miles an hour. he is also accused of driving under its influence but tmz reports his level was .014, a barely measurable amount. officers had claimed they could smell alcohol on his breath a teen who is a big fan said she never doubted his innocence and he even gave her one of his shirts. >> i don't know, i'm morning, most of us are  within at least a few degrees warmer from where we started yesterday. i'll have a look at those numbers. air quality, a bit tough in some spots. today is a spare the air day. i'll have a look at air quality for your neighborhood. i've got your numbers for you into the afternoon and in the extended forecast, tracking the possibility of some rain. i'll have that time line, with the new future cast model updating at this hour, coming up. new this morning, a car slammed into a home in antioch, then rolled over into the neighbor's yard. it happened just after midnight on buchanan road. allie rasmus is live in the city of antioch. the crash knocked out power in the neighborhood for some, is that right? >> reporter: it did. there are four to five homes on buchanan street that are still without power and will be for sometime this afternoon. first, let's show you how this crash happened. this is caused by a driver heading eastbound on buchanan street, just past san jose drive. you can see where he hit the median. some of the bushes are knocked down. then the car went into opposing lanes of traffic, hit this pg&e transformer the hazmat crews are now working to clean up. then the car continued. it slammed into the side of this house here and rolled into the home next door. you can take a closer look at some of the damage, see what's left of a garage door, a printer, even an old shoe in this pile of rubble. incredibly, no one was injured in this crash. the driver was able to walk away from it. but this is what the scene looked like shortly after it happened. again, it was just after midnight. there were people inside both homes, a total of five people who the car crashed, but again, no one was injured. we talked to a homeowner this morning. he said he's very upset, will have to spend a lot of money repairing and replacing his things. >> half of my things, just trashed into their house. i can't find any single thing over there. had a lot of tools and everything. i'm just building stuff. all the stuff is brand-new, just bought it. it just got crushed. >> reporter: now, the cause of the crash is under investigation. police say the driver did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol and said they believe excessive speed may be the reason the driver lost control of his vehicle. but back out here live, pg&e crews tell me they have to completely replace the power box the car took out and redo wiring and cables that connect to it. over here, we also had a hazmat crew that's been out here since early this morning, cleaning up some of the oil that spilled from that transformer after this crash happened. there will be work to do out here and the cleanup will take a long time, not just for the hazmat crews, but long time for the homeowners and residents affected by the crash. live in antioch, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. new this morning, the chp is investigating the death of a pedestrian on highway 24 in oakland. the victim was hit by several cars and died at the scene. chp is trying to figure out if the victim was on the freeway because that person's motorcycle broke down on nearby interstate 980. three drivers stopped at the scene and are cooperating with officers. the freeway was shut down for more than an hour. all lanes are now back open. one person is in critical condition this morning after being hit by a car while sitting at a bus stop. it happened about 10:30 last night at 30th and mission streets. police say a car lost control and crashed into a bus stop where one person was sitting inside. police tell us they are questioning the driver. we are following breaking news for you right now in maryland. there has been a shooting at a mall. it's happening at the columbia mall in baltimore. local media outlets are reporting that several people have been hurt and that the gunman may be among the wounded. we are trying to gather more information and will have more on this breaking story as we get it. authorities in the peninsula say a man convicted of child molestation has skipped town. police in menlo park are now looking for 50-year-old carlos tehran after he failed to appear in court yesterday for a sentencing. a jury found him guilty on three felony counts of child molestation in november. prosecuters say he molested the 10-year-old son of a neighbor who was friendly with his son. a venetia elementary school teacher is facing three felony charges on suspicion of serving her colleagues food laced with marijuana. 47-year-old theresa badger is a first grade teacher at matthew turner elementary school. police say several of her coworkers got sick after eating food badger brought to an off- campus party in november. one woman had blood tests done and learned that there was thc in her system, the active ingredient in marijuana. >> one of the attendees took some of the food home and their 15-year-old juvenile ingested this food and became ill. >> police say badger apparently told some of the people at that party that she brought food with marijuana in it. badger has been a teacher in the district for 18 years. she has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. an oakland family is pleading for a 14-year-old boy accused of killing his sister to turn himself in. police say mario tolliver, jr. was last seen in oakland chinatown's neighborhood, where on thursday he allegedly shot his 17-year-old sister. family members initially said that justice tolliver was shot after an argument about laundry. now the family says they aren't so sure what sparked the argument and they are being that 14-year-old to come forward. >> he said he was sorry. he was scared. he's scared now. you know, think the police is going to kill him, and i plea for him to come home or call somebody. >> police say they consider tolliver armed and dangerous because the weapon used in the killing has not been recovered. anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call oakland police. federal regulators approved safety changes at san francisco general hospital, after a patient died in a locked stairwell. 57-year-old lynn spalding was found dead last october, 17 days after she went missing from her room. the centers for medicare and medicaid services signed off on the hospital's new safety plan after interviewing staff and reviewing security. the reforms include daily security checks of all emergency stairwells, a bracelet tracking system for any patients who are at risk of wandering off, and if a stairwell alarm rings, nurses will now be required to make sure all patients are accounted for. hospital officials also say government monitoring will continue. >> but for this investigation, it is now concluded. we are no longer deficient, and our plan of correction has shown that we are safer and that we have a plan to become safer still. >> new regulations are also in place for the sheriff's department, which is responsible for security at the hospital. well, the state senate is holding hearings on claims that cal trans pressured engineers to keep quiet about construction problems on the new span of the bay bridge. let's take you outside for a live look at that new span. state senate report shows cal trans found thousands of cracks in welds for the tower, but then replaced the managers who reported those problems. the report also claims bridge officials ignored warnings in 2008, that anchor rods for the suspension span had not been adequately tested. >> i was specifically directed not to look in areas that i knew there were cracks. >> engineers say they were told not to put their concerns in writing, but the director of cal trans insists the bridge is safe and is going to last 150 years. >> i have the walk is planned by pro life advocates, but a pro choice group says it has also planned a rally during the walk. the event also marks the 41st anniversary of the supreme court decision on roe versus wade. a brain-dead woman believed to be 22 weeks pregnant will be taken off life support on monday, despite objections from the texas hospital where she is being treated. the deadline comes after a judge ruled march lease munoz is legally dead. that means a texas law stating that a pregnant woman cannot be removed from life support does not apply. the case has become a rallying point for antiabortion activists. family members say her unborn child can't survive outside the womb. >> there's a lot of twinkle in her eye. not anymore. >> munoz has been on life support since november. the hospital argued it had no choice but to keep her on life support due to texas law. the case in texas has been closely watched by supporters of an oakland family, who fought to keep their 13-year- old daughter on life support. jahi mcmath was transferred to an undisclosed medical facility earlier this month. she was declared brain dead after complications during tonsil surgery at oakland's children's hospital. the hospital wanted to take her off a ventilator, but family members went to court to keep her on life support. the number of people killed by the flu in california has taken a reporter: the california department of health released a staggering update that shows the number of flu deaths have doubled since the start of the season, to 95 today, with an additional 51 deaths that might be flu-related. to put that into perspective, there were 106 flu deaths statewide all of last year. >> flu is unpredictable. the only thing we could ever say is that we're going to have an area counties. the death toll now stands at 30, including those two new deaths reported in santa clara county. online threats from extremist groupses against the winter olympics in sochi continue to rise in response. russian security officials are creating a ring of steel around the site of the games. the u.s. state department is warning american athletes not to wear their uniforms when they venture outside the protection of that so-called ring of steel. >> the u.s. olympic committee, i think, had discussed with its athletes as part of how to sort of stay safe during the games. >> russian leaders are doing all they can to try to ensure the safety of everyone involved in this year's winter games. the competition starts in less than two weeks. there has been another big data breach, this time affecting employees of coca- cola. laptop computers containing the personal information of up to 74,000 people were stolen from its atlanta headquarters. most of the data was from current and former employees. the company says the laptops contain names, social security numbers, along with addresses and information on compensation. well, economists say california's latest unemployment numbers show a modest improvement. the state's jobless rate fell to 8.3% in december. that is down from 8.5% in november. however, according to the employment development department, 1.5 million californians are still out of a job. sectors with job growth include professional and business services, tourism and transportation, but manufacturing and construction lost jobs. solano county has the highest unemployment rate in the bay area at 7.3%, followed by contra costa with 6.4% unemployed. marin county has the lowest jobless rate in the entire state, with just 4.2%. both san francisco and san mateo counties are also now below 5%. now in, an attempt to get leaner, wal-mart is cutting more than 2000 jobs at its sam's club discount stores. the bay area has two sam's clubs, one in concord and another in vacaville. there are 2300 layoffs nationwide, with nearly half being assistant managers. others will be hourly workers. sam's club has been facing stiff competition from costco and amazon's prime membership service. mailing a letter with the u.s. postal service will soon cost more. tomorrow, the price of a stamp is set to go up to 49-cents, the largest increase in more than a decade. u.s. postal service continues to struggle financially, but the postmaster general says he is required by congress to keep underused post offices open. today, san francisco international will hold a ceremony for its new boarding area. area e in terminal 3 has undergone a $138 million makeover and is going to be open for business on tuesday. the 69,000-square foot terminal has 10 gates for united airlines. the new space is expected to handle about 50 arrivals and departures every day. it features new restaurants and even a yoga studio. we have posted more video of the boarding area e [mom screams] . we were just laying in bed and all of a sudden we just hear like a loud explosion. >> terrifying moments in two homes in antioch. a car slams into a house and then rolls over into the neighbor's yard. welcome back to mornings on 2, everyone. i'm mike mibach. >> i'm claudine wong. more on that story in a moment. but first, breaking news from maryland. there has been a shooting at a maw. it's happening at the columbia mall in baltimore. "the baltimore sun" is now reporting that three people have died and that one of the victims was found near ammunition and a gun, leading to reports that the shooter may be one of the dead. we are expecting a police press conference shortly at the scene and we'll have more for you on this breaking story as we get it. now back to the story in antioch, where people were inside their homes at the time of that car crash and the impact knocked out power in the neighborhood. ktvu's allie rasmus, live in the city of antioch with a look at that damage. >> reporter: mike, we had to move across the street, just in the last half hour because the hazmat crews called out to clean up some of the mess, they are cleaning up some of the oil that spilled out of a transformer when it was knocked over by this car that collided into the area, they are getting ready to get out their hoses and we were in their way. we can show you video close-up of some of the damage caused by the crash. the man who lives in this house said it looked like a tornado swept through his front yard. there's debris, pieces of his neighbor's wall and garage door in his front yard. all of this happened when a driver lost control of his car. the car was headed eastbound on san jose drive in antioch. at one point, the driver lost control, crossed a median into oncoming lanes of traffic before slamming into the garage of one home, then rolling into the yard next door, shattering the front windows of that house. now, there are people inside both of the homes when the car collided in the houses. amazingly, no one was injured. even the driver was able to walk away from the crash. >> we woke up to, like, a huge bang. actually thought somebody was coming in the window and my mom sleeps in the bedroom where it cracked the wall and broke the glass in the bedroom where she was. we walked outside and there was people everywhere and the car was upside down in our yard. >> reporter: the cause of the crash is under investigation. police say the driver did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol after they talked to him and interviewed him. they believe instead excessive speed may be the reason he lost control of his car. back out here live, pg&e crews have to completely replace the power box that the car took out before slamming into the homes. they have to redo some of the wiring and cables that connect to it. they expect to be here for most of the day. in the meantime, there are a few street lights and about four to five homes that are going to be without power for the afternoon. again, the hazmat crews out here are still doing their work. they will be out here for the next several hours as well. live in antioch, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. we are learning more about the relationship between the bart detective who was killed this week and the officer who accidentally shot him. bart police say sergeant thomas smith was shot to death tuesday afternoon by fellow officer michael maze. it happened during a probation search at an apartment in dublin. maze's attorney says the two were not only coworkers, but friends as well. >> officer maze is very concerned and deeply concerned with how sergeant smith's family is feeling, and he extends his love and consideration to them. >> police psychologist says friendly fire shootings are especially difficult for law enforcement because it's such a tight-knit community. officer maze is now on administrative leave. the funeral for detective sergeant tom smith will take place wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the neighborhood church of castro valley. it is located on drawn drive and is also known as the three crosses church. we are learning more about a deadly accident on the railroad tracks here the santa clara cal trans station. police say the man who died on monday night was trying to save the life of a stranger. philip schulze was trying to pull a man lying on the tracks to safety when he was hit. >> he would endanger his life for someone else. he's just that type of person. >> the man philip schulze was trying to help is in critical condition in the hospital. a memorial service for schulze will be held february 10 at the veterans memorial building in pleasanton. students at the college of marin in kentfield are on alert this morning after a male student was kidnapped and sexually assaulted on campus on thursday night. a male student told investigators there was someone in the back seat of his car, armed with a gun, who ordered him to drive to mill valley. he told deputies that is where he was sexually assaulted. a text alert was sent out yesterday to warn students. >> there's always people, cops all around this campus. someone getting assaulted here is just really nerve racking. >> investigators say the victim was able to escape and get help. deputies say the person who committed the crime is described as an african american man, about 6' 2, weighing between 220 and 235 pounds. a richmond man accused of a hate crime in 2008 has been sentenced to 31 years in prison. robert ortiz pleaded guilty in connection to a gang rape. the victim was walking home when she was attacked by members of a street gang. ortiz was 15 at the time. he is now 20 years old. two other men have also been convicted of that crime. president obama says he's ordered his administration to deal with the issue of sexual violence. >> sexual assault is an affront to our basic decency and humanity. it's about all of us. the safety of those we love most, our moms, our wives, our daughters, and our sons. >> in this morning's weekly address, the president discussed his efforts to stop sexual assaults. it is estimated one in five women is assaulted in college. that's why he says this week he did sign that order, establishing a white house task force to examine the issue and to help schools better protect its students. a home invasion robbery has some residents in marin county a little worried. it happened yesterday at about 11:30 in the morning. police say three men forced their way into a home on green beret. a man in his twenties, the victim, says they tied him up and put him in a closet before they ransacked his house. he was able to untie himself and called 911. neighbors say the incident has left them a bittner of us. >> i was home. could have happened to me. doesn't make me feel safe. >> the robbers stole a number of items, including an ipad. a number of homes in the area have security cameras and they are reviewing video. three people are accused of robbing an elderly couple at gunpoint. police say all three men are in their twenties. they have released this sketch of one of the men who is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. police say the three suspects forced their way into the palo alto home on thursday morning and ordered a couple in their eighties to lie face-down on the floor. the suspects then got away with wallets, cash, and an unloaded gun. police say the couple wasn't hurt, but they were shaken up. the city of oakland is holding an unusual giveaway today to help stop vehicles from being stolen or even broken into. 200 steering wheel locks will be handed out on a first come, first-served basis. the giveaway started 30 minutes ago at clinton square park. oakland mayor and the police chief are scheduled to be at the event. oakland police are asking the public to look for a stolen car that was used during burglaries in two neighborhoods. investigators say it's a gray 2009 four-door honda fit. the car has california license plate 6 hdx 632. police say it has been used in burglaries in the north oakland and lake merritt neighborhoods. one of the robbers is described as a heavy set white male. the other is a blonde white female. anyone with information about the case is asked to call police. a live look at the hazy skies over san jose this morning. san jose just a tad warmer than where we were 24 hours ago. all of those clouds in the sky, helping to offset our cooling in the overnight hours. some areas, especially over the north bay, anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees above where we started yesterday at this hour. giving you a look after midnight a buchanan road. the crash did knock out power in the neighborhood. no one was hurt and the cause of that crash is still under investigation. chp investigating a deadly accident on highway 24 in oakland, involving a pedestrian. that pedestrian was hit by several vehicles and died at the scene. chp is looking into whether the person who was hit ended up on the freeway after breaking down on a motorcycle on interstate 980. three drivers stopped at the scene and are cooperating with officers. a be knee venetia teacher is charged with serving several of her coworkers laced with marijuana. she brought the food to an off- campus party. badger teaches at matthew turner elementary school and has been placed on administrative leave. sacramento has broken a 130- year-old dry weather record. tomorrow will be the 50th day without any measurable rainfall. the old winter drought record was 46 days back in 1884. water levels in many sacramento area lakes and reservoirs are at alarmingly low levels. sacramento has directed those living and working in the city to reduce water usage by 20 to 30%. the city of roseville is turning on all four of its water well pumps. >> this will be the first time ever that all four of these wells have delivered water to the customers. >> city officials say turning on all of the wells could help the city cope with the water issues during the drought. the wells come from an aquifer located 350 feet below the city. next week, the wells will be turned on and city officials say they will stay on until it rains enough to help the water supply. governor jerry pron is asking the california supreme court to overturn two rulings that are stalling the state's high speed rail project. two lower court rulings are preventing the state from selling $8.6 million in voter- approved bonds. the rulings are also requiring the high speed rail authority to write a new financing plan. the governor is arguing the rulings could hurt the state's ability to approve other voter- approved projects in the future. san francisco's dolores park will be getting a $12.4 million facelift. on thursday, the recreation and park commission approved the construction contracts set to begin in march. planned improvements include renovating the basketball and tennis courts, putting in a new irrigation system, and installing new rest rooms. about half of the park will have to be closed during each phase of the construction and the work is expected to be complete by spring of 2015. an antioch couple is recovering after being attacked by pitbulls during an evening walk. as ktvu's rob roth reports it, took a sharp knife to fight off the dogs. >> reporter: his arm is torn up, his wife has cuts, and their poodle had the back of her neck ripped open. >> almost shell shocked. it happened so fast. >> last thing i expected was to have to, you know, fight for my life. >> reporter: it happened wednesday evening. the four went for their usual walk, when they got here to minto lane a few blocks from home, three pitbulls charged them, going for the dogs. one latched on to the poodle's neck. >> she was squealing a death cry. her face was up at me, so all i could see was terror in her face. >> reporter: charlene wadsworth says she was knocked to the ground, but kept hanging on to her dog. >> her life was in danger. she could have gotten killed. >> reporter: wadsworth says as he tried to help his hound, the pitbull bit him. >> grabbed my hand and started chewing it up. >> reporter: he took out this knife and stabbed the attacking dog once in the ribs. the dog retreated and by then neighbors and the pitbull owners had pulled the dogs away. the owners of the pit bulls would not go on camera. they said the dogs got out by jumping over this small fence, that the dogs have always been friendly, never aggressive. but they do not have dog licenses. >> i think the community awareness needs to be if you have a pet, you need to realize how strong these dogs are and the responsibility behind owning a dog. >> rob roth reporting there. the pitbulls are at the antioch animal shelter. the wadsworths say they would like to see the dogs put down, but the owners want them to live. the sonoma county humane society is asking for help after rescuing 61 dogs from a woman who is being evicted from her home. tuesday's rescue has pushed the facility to beyond capacity, but the agency says it had to take them in. many of the dogs were suffering from lice, heartworm and fractured teeth. the shelter is now in urgent need of linens, unbreakable dog bowls and other dog supplies. the agency is also asking volunteers to help with laundry or to even foster the dogs. the affordable care act reaches an important milestone. 3million people have now signed up for healthcare coverage. however, that number is far less than the 7 million the administration had hoped for by the end of december. while supporters say they are encouraged that a growing number of americans are taking advantage of the healthcare program, critics say that 3 million number is inflated because it includes enrollees who have yet to make their first payment and the insurance industry traditionally only considers someone enrolled after they pay that first month's premium. well, nursing homes run by nuns in denver will not have to provide birth control to employees. the supreme court has ruled the little sisters of the poor is exempt from the birth control mandate under the new healthcare law. the court ruled that the nuns do not have to comply with the rule if they send their objections to the department of health and human services in writing. the healthcare law requires most insurance plans to cover the cost of birth control. churches are exempt, but hospitals and other organizations that are affiliated with religious groups are not. some welcome news for fans of justin bieber who say they believe he's innocent of the street racing-related charges this week. the apparent evidence that has just surfaced. plus, a bieber believer celebrates a gift from the pop star himself. >> afternoon highs will climb well above the say they have arrested the driver involved. 45-year-old james bell faces multiple charges, including driver under the influence and hit and run. that crash happened about 10:30 last night at 30th and mission. police say bell lost control of his car and crashed into a bus stop, where a woman was sitting. that woman was taken to san francisco general hospital. police say she suffered life- threatening injuries. tmz says some of the accusations against justin bieber just don't hold up. miami beach police claim the 19- year-old pop star was drag racing in a yellow lambourghini thursday morning. police reports say bieber and a friend in a separate car were going between 55 and 60. however, according to tmz, the rented sports car's gps monitors track speeds. tmz says one of the cars briefly reached 52 miles an hour, but that both cars were mainly cruising at 27 miles an hour. bieber is also accused of driving under the influence, but tmz reports that bieber's alcohol level was 0.014, barely measurable amount. officers had claimed they could smell alcohol on his breath. a florida teenager who is a big bieber fan says she never doubted his innocence. he even gave her his hoodie. >> i don't know! i'm dying! i feel like i'm dreaming! >> what are you going to do with it? >> i'm never washing it! he's so perfect! oh, my god! >> bieber's second court appearance is set for monday. well, he gained national attention for his post-game interview last weekend, but now the seattle seahawks cornerback has been slapped with a fine for what he actually did during the game. richard sherman was fined $7875 for unsportsman-like conduct in the final minutes of that nfc championship game against the 49ers. sherman was flagged after he made that choking gesture right there toward the san francisco bench that he said was directed at quarterback colin kaepernick. seattle went on to win 23-17. well, the nfl can't do anything about the weather. they are certainly worried about it, but right now the league is trying to make sure other problems don't pop up during the super bowl. workers have tested the lights at metlife stadium in new jersey and they say the electrical system is working just fine. the league wants to make sure there is not a repeat of the last super bowl, in which the game between the 49ers and the baltimore ravens was stopped for more than half an hour because of a power outage. now, around $100 million is expected to be bet on the game at las vegas casinos. some of the more unusual wagers are known as prop bets. they include the lowest temperature during the game, the length of the national anthem, which song bruno mars will perform during his half time show, and will any member of the red hot chili peppers be shirtless as part of the show? casinos say they are worried the uncertainty of the weather is going to play havoc with gambling odds. >> lot of concerns all around, just because you're not a player that touches the ball doesn't mean you can't affect the game and how much yardage a team can get and based on the weather conditions and the field conditions. well, just under $99 million was bet in last year's super bowl. casinos say the amount was a record because of the popularity of the 49ers in california and nevada. now, if you're not going to the super bowl, you can watch it right here on ktvu. the game is
