welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday july 13th. >> we go straight to rosemary to take a look at how the weekend is shaping up. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we have another comfortable day in store for most of us. we remain parked with high pressure to the east and a low parked over the coastline. the ridge will pull this way just a little bit. that will lead to a few degrees of warming for the inland areas especially for the afternoon. this morning we are starting out with some low clouds and it's a cool start. we will look at the current conditions and the afternoon highs. >> police are investigating a deadly attack at a san francisco gold and jewelry store. alex savage joins us live from the scene with the dramatic ending that led to the suspect's arrest. >> reporter: and this morning police aren't say figure this was a robbery that ended violently or a personal dispute but the two women were found dead inside the jewelry marte at 888 brandon street and both of them were employees of the jewelry store located onto basement level of this building. police say a man was seriously wounded in the attack and witnesses say that he is the store's owner. the man police say was responsible for this deadly attack was taken in to custody yesterday but he didn't give up without a night. this man who was covered in blood opened fire on the first officers who arrived to this scene. eventually the man ran out of ammunition and gave up. police were searching the building for possibly a second shooter. police evacuated about a hundred or so stores inside the jewelry marte and for those who work in this building and know the victims, they are devastated. >> our building is a kind of family. we know each other, everybody is friendly to -- it's just sad it'll be hard for the people they see the scenery to stay in their mind, i don't know how they will live with it. it's not easy. >> reporter: the man accused of this attack so far is not being identified by police. officers recovered a hand gun and a folding knife from this scene yesterday. the store own erin juried is in the hospital in critical condition but we are told he is expected to survive. now police say that surveillance video from this area suggests that the gunman in this case acted alone and that the chief also added yesterday this was not the first time this man had been seen here in this building. we are live in san francisco >> a father of a missing child is out of jail this morning and he says he is distraught about his daughter's disappearance. the 49-year-old john webb was arrested on suspicious of child endangerment after his daughter went missing on wednesday. last night webb was released from jail after prosecutors decided not to file charges against him. he told police that he left his daughter in a car with his mother who he said has dementia while he went inside a store. the girl was gone when he returned. >> my daughter is missing i have to live with that even though i'm out of jail i'm still not free >> reporter: he said both he and his wife had nothing to do with their daughter's disappearance. a vigil was held last night in the neighborhood where she was reported missing. >> new this morning san jose police are investigating a deadly shooting. it happened about 9:45 last night on state and archer street. the victim was talking to someone on the sidewalk when a gunman walked up and shot him. he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. no arrests have been made. new information now about the man killed in a large apartment fire in redwood. the san mateo coroner identities him as a 48-year-old darron michael demello pine. more than 20 were hurt and nearly 100 were left without a place to live. the cause the fire is under investigation but officials believe it started in the victim's third floor apartment. cal ocea is investigating after a janitor was crushed and killed at a grocery store in redwood the 43-year-old was found inside a machine used to crush card board boxes. septemberors are inspecting that machine the janitor worked there for five-years >> now to the crash of flight 214, all four runways at sfo are open this morning. runway 28 opened yesterday. it was closed for nearly a wekas because of last saturday's crash. workers laid down a thousand tons of new asphalt, replaced navigation lights and removed jet fuel that had spilled from the plane. the airline and it's insurance agents will pay for the repairs. >> we will submit a claim. >> the estimate? >> no idea but we will count every penny. >> reporter: the first plane to land onto repaved runway was a southwest airlines flight. the burned out fuselage is being kept in a fenced off area. sfo said it'll stay on the property for a week. they have been attracting on lookers. some people have driven by and even stopped to take pictures with the air craft. >> i cannot even believe i'm here watching this. i can't believe i can stand here and see this wreckage up close and personal. >> reporter: sfo officials say it's up to asiana to dispose of the wreckage. >> doctors at san francisco general say they did everything they could to save the life of a girl injured in a crash of the flight but she passed away. she is the third person to die because of the crash. her family has asked details not be released including her name, age or her injuries >> we have been asked by the family to provide them with some time and some space to appropriately mourn this tragic loss >> san francisco general treated 67 people from the flight. 36 adults and 31 children. there are still six crash victims at the hospital. one male adult and five females including a girl. two patients are listed in critical condition. stanford hospital has one patient in serious condition. and san francisco police chief greg sur confirms one of the teens who died was run over by an emergency vehicle. he said that the body of the 16- year-old was found on the ground covered with foa m. the coroner is still trying to determine the cause of her death. >> happening today two america's coup challengers will finally square off against each other out on the water. italy's luna rosa will face off with the new zealand team. it's the first head to head match up in the cup challenger series which is a prelude to the america's cup. the boats could sail at speeds reaching 46 miles an hour. the organizers are now confirming that they paid three million dollars less to sponsor the challenger races. the french design company received a discount due to the fact there are only three challengers competing artemis said it still needs time to recover from the death of a crew member in may. >> your time is 7:08. if you have outside plans, it's starting up cool but the question always is, is it going to warm up and when? >> it is going to warm up. i say by ten we are feeling good in most cases. where it'll stay cloudy and cool the coastline again for today. our pattern is changing very little as we get through the next few days giving you a live look here. this is a change. we were covered in gray and today we have some sunshine out there. it is hugging the coastline. it's into the north bay but in and around the bay area the communities are seeing better sun and if you go inland, fairfield, concord and antioch, we have mostly sunny skies outside this morning. the on shore breeze continues, fairfield with 14 miles an hour but it's weakening. the marine layer not as thick and that will of course bring us the warm up for the afternoon. right now 58 degrees in fairfield, 57 redwood. a bit cool out there but not to bad. i want to point you to where it's chilly this morning. 48 degrees santa rosa and they are reporting fog as well. napa56 so not bad. 48 in nevado. bit of a chill in the air for the north valley. we will see a rebound. the sun will shine in the neighborhood over the course of the next hour or two as well. for today slightly warmer, clouds will remain at the coastline for the entire day. the on shore breeze will pick up again into the afternoon. temperatures low 60s at the coast. 70's round the bay. upper 80s to near 90 for the warmest inland location. look at what you can expect for the area, 81 degrees in santa rosa, 84sonoma, 77 kemp field. beautiful to the north bayf. you plan to spend the afternoon there. 73 for oakland. 73 san leandro, upper 80s around walnut creek. brentwood and antioch low 90s for the second half of the day. temperatures for the south bay 82 for san jose. 81 santa claire a. if you are going to santa cruz mostly cloudy at this hour. mostly sunny for the afternoon and 75 expected for you. 80 degrees for wood side and redwood. 75 san mateo and if you are spending the day in san francisco 66 degrees, 62 expected along the coastline. not the best beach day but as you get away from the coastline it'll be feeling good. stay around the bay. if you like it warm head inland. for tomorrow notice little change. in fact the numbers look almost the same as we get into monday. temperatures start to cool just a bit. tuesday looks to be the coolest day and then we see a small rebound as we get into wednesday. all in all temperatures seasonal for this time of year. slightly below average but looking good. i will have a look at the lunchtime numbers and if you are going to see the a's play this afternoon. >> new this morning a deadly crash in vacaville reported just before five this morning on pleasant valley road near foothill drive. details are still coming in but early reports indicate that a vehicle overturned, two parties were involved and chp is reporting one death. >> we have a heads up for drivers in san francisco. there is a repaving project on market street and that's going to affect traffic. the work is taking place along market street between 4th and 6th. cars -- the work is expected to be completed by tomorrow. the repaving work will improve curb lanes and provide smoother rides for both drivers and cyclists. >> right now jury deletions are underway. >> and the battle to stop gay marriage is back in court. the new request by opponents and how the governor is reacting. >> and a live look outside. there is the golden gate bridge on this saturday morning. traffic moving great. 101 in both directions, you're watching mornings on two. i gotta go deposit a check, transfer some money. so it's your uncle's turn. what? return home tomorrow morning. lightning sparked that fire on jill first and it's destroyed six buildings and burned 44 square miles along the mountains. officials say the fire is about half contained. it has cost more than $13 million to fight. and more than a month after a devastating wildfire the california governor has declared a state of emergency in los angeles county. the power house fire destroyed 53 structures and burned 47 square miles of brush in a rural section of north la. that fire started may 30th. it was contained two weeks later. it lets the county qualify for emergency funds >> reporter: the judge in the case ruled this week that the jury can consider the lesser charge of manslaughter as well as second degree murder. >> penn state is offering settlements to some of sandusky's abuse victims. the board of trustees said yesterday it has agreements with some of the men who say sandusky abused them. no agreements have been signed yet. last year season does sandusky was sentenced to 30 years. the families the victims who died at sandy hook will each get over $200,000. the families of surviving victims will get $20,000, two teachers hurt in the shooting will split $150,000 new, the republican controlled legislature in texas has approved one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the country. >> house bill 2 is finally passed. congratulations >> lawmaker passed that legislation just before midnight central time. democrats strongly opposed it with more than two thousand demonstrators filling the building in austin but the governor of texas will sign that bill in the next few days, it bans abortions after 20 weeks and requires all portions take place in surgical centers. democrats who delayed the bill last month plan to take the issue to court. >> california attorney general calls a petition to stop gay marriage baseless. the state started allowing same sex marriages two days after the united states supreme court dismissed proposition 8 but supporters claim that proposition 8 should still be law since the high court didn't specifically rule on the constitution ality of gay marriage. they also argue that the first suit only named the county clerks in los angeles and alameda county and the gay marriage ban should stilla play in the other 56 counties. the governor is urging the california supreme court to reject the arguments. lawyers for brown and harris filed a brief with the state court after years of litigation there is now a final determination that proposition 8 is unconstitutional. >> in this morning's weekly address the beach this summer. the first couple will return to martha's vineyard for a nine day vacation. it'll be their 4th summer trip to the massachusetts island since he became president in 2009. while people have been lining up to seat new movie about oscar grant. yesterday fruitvale station opened in select cities including san francisco, oakland, berkeley and new york. it is a drama of grant's last 24 hours of life. it includes the shooting by a bart police officer at the fruitvale station. people at grand lake theater said it was important for them to go see it. >> we were supporting it for oscar grant. we felt it wasn't right and it has to be right. >> fruitvale station is set to open nationwide in two weeks. >> time now 7:23 and signs have been posted at a homeless camp in pleasant hill warn that the camp will soon be cleared out. the camp is located just under the parkway but those who have set up camp are causing concern for nearby residents. neighbors say neil have worried there connected with county housing and if needed mental health >> some overcast skies. >> good morning. seeing the low clouds already pull back, along the coastline we will be partly to mostly cloudy but outside of that mostly sunny skies and temperatures slightly warmer than what we had yesterday. if you head out the door at nine, along the coastline upper 50s, upper 50s around the bay and getting in to the low 60's for the inland. by noontime, upper 50s remaining alternatives the coast but 70 degrees around the bay. inland areas upper 70s to low 80s and then for the afternoon we have low 60's at the coast. 70s around the bay. if you are going to see the a's play this afternoon. temperatures are going to feel good for some tailgating, by game time 64 with mostly clear skies and a light westerly breeze. into the evening we will be slipping back in to the upper 50s and low 60s. bring along that light jacket for the little ones. your extended forecast showing you temperatures don't budge a lot into sunday. monday and tuesday, we will cool just a little bit and then wednesday temperatures rebound subtley. the marine layer not as thick, not as widespread. we are off to a tough name. rescued from a shelter. now the woman who took him home said the dog can dive 13 feet in to the pool to fetch its toys. she posted a video of bunny doing just that on crew teen five-days on two. >> heavy hearts today for shop owners who returned to work following that deadly attack at the jewelry marte. alex savage is live where two women were killed and a third person seriously hurt >> reporter: yeah. this crime troubling. many business owners here knew the victims. there is about a hundred or so stores, at 888 brandon street. it'll be opening back up later on today. yesterday's attack left two women dead and we are told they were both employees at the jewelry store located on the basement level. police also say a man was seriously wounded and witnesses say that he is the store's owner. investigators right now aren't saying whether this was a robbery that just ended with violence or some kind of personal dispute between the attacker and the victims. the man police say carried out thea falk was eventually taken into custody but he didn't give up without a fight . the man opened fire on officers . none of those officers were hit by gun fire. eventually the man ran out of ammunition after ducking inside a restaurant and eventually gave up. one neighboring business own told us about the two women who were killed. >> they are very friendly. peace fly. they don't bother nobody. always smiling. talking to people. >> reporter: so far police are not identitying the man they took into custody yesterday accused of carrying out this attack but police will say they recovered both a hand gun and a folding knife from the scene. the store owner hurt in the attack remains in the hospital in critical condition but we are told he will survive his injuries and police do believe that the gunman in this case did act alone in this attack and that the chief also did say yesterday -- the chief said this man had been here to this building in the past. it's not clear what his connection was to the victims >> poisonous meat balls found in two neighborhoods could pose a threat to humans. the tainted meat balls were found in the twin peaks and diamond heights areas. they have levels of poison that could be lethel for humans. it also can be absorbed through the skin. they advice anyone who comes across anything suspicious to call the police. if you think your dog ate one call a vet immediately. san francisco animal care and control said a dog has died after eating one of the meat balls. his owner said he ate one in their diamond heights neighborhood on july 3rd. police found dozens of other tainted meat balls and continue to look for the person responsible. it's containing in those meat balling a highley toxic pesticide. >> and now to the crash of flight 214. sfo runways and once again operational. it reopened just after five the airport had to work quickly to workers put down new asphalt and removed jet fuel that had spilled from the airplane. officials say the insurance agent will pay for the repairs. >> doctors say they did everything they could but a third crash victim, another girl has died. as the family mourns they ask the hospital not to release details about her such as age, name or her injuries. she had been in the intensive care unit since the crash. a group of students in south korea gathered to pay respects to the victims. it included bowing their heads and holding a flower. there was also a photograph of two of the teens killed on the day of the crash. a student read a letter that will be sent to the teen's families. the group then went to the chinese embassy to offer messages of support. >> a tour bus driver arrested at san francisco on drunk driving charges is scheduled to be arraigned later this month. the 60-year-old was arrested last friday near stockton. he was driving a deluxe sightseeing tour bus when he was arrested. he faces charges that include driving under the influence and driving with an open container of alcohol. a teen boy is recovering from serious injuries after falling through a sky light at a funeral home. the 13-year-old broke through the glass on the roof of fernwood last night. he felll 15 feet and suffered deep cuts from the glass. firefighters say he lost a lot of blood but was in stable condition. they are trying to find what he was doing on the roof and how he fell. >> a jury awarded a south bay family a million dollars in a civil lawsuit filed against the city of san jose. the case is from the 2007 death of steve solinas who died in a confrontation with police after an officer tazed him multiple tiles. he was high on pcp but the attorney said he was unarmed and argued that the taser use was excessive and contributed to his death. >> there is wrongful death out there. a lot of cases aren't proven but we took this to trial and i'm happy that we did. >> san jose city attorney said the city is disappointed in the ruling and is considering an appeal. oakland city workers could get a pay race after the city and two of its unions reached a possible deal on a new contract. it would give some 3500 workers a 2% race. last week workers staged a one day strike during the contract negotiations. >> it's a wait and see game for people in the bay area who depend on bart to get to work as the possibility of another strike looms. both sides did meet for several hours in oakland to continue negotiation. worker contract extenses expired at the beginning of next month and if they do not reach a deal they say they will strike again talks aren't scheduled to resume until monday morning >> bart police are look for people caught on video having sex in a train car. it's believed a third person use aid cell phone to take pictures. lewd activity is ill legal. the video is a little grainy but they hope that someone can still identity those involved. >> a temporary fix proposed that could let the new eastern span of the bay bridge open by labor day. it was delayed after the finding of cracked bolts in march but now they are proposing a temporary solution. long interest they have asked to review the proposal and though the opening day of the new span is on hold some finishing touches are being made. yesterday cruise paved the suspension span with special asphalt with a high strength epoxy glue. it's only two inches anybody and is designed to the weekend and that warm air is sinking. that is actually bringing us a shallow marine layer. yesterday it was up to 2,000 feet. this morning it's up to 1200 feet so not as thick. a hard time getting through the gaps and over the coastal range. not going to have as big of an impact. meanwhile the fog a little thicker because its being pinched closer to the ground. half man bay reporting visibility to two miles, down to a half mile in areas of santa rosa but it looks like its getting better in your neighborhood. we have the on shore breeze. 14 at fairfield. yesterday it was close to 20. it's still there but just not as strong. temperatures are going to warm, especially for inland areas, a little later today. without the low cloud cover, areas like oakland we don't have that blanket to insulate us and we are cooler in oakland. 58 outside the door but this is the chilly spot. santa rosa with overcast skies. if you plan to head out, unless it's for a run you may immediate that jacket. into the east bay in the upper other's to low 60's and around the inland communities a 3800 feet is this reading it's the warmest spot. another indication of that warm air beginning to sink to our area and bring us a warm up for your afternoon. temperatures for today, 81 for santa rosa, 77 san rafael, 70 berkeley, 73 oakland. 66 san francisco. upper 80s to low 90s for the inland communities, it's quite a nice day. very comfortable in most cases, 82 for san jose, upper 80's morgan hill. i realize they could be a little uncomfortable for some but head closer to the bay and if you like it cool we will stay partly cloudy and cool at the coast with low 60's. low to mid-70s and as i showed you a moment ago upper 80's to low 90s for the warmest inland cities. as we get into sunday a little change. monday into tuesday, the trough off the coastline will nudge farther our way and bring us a cooldown. nothing to dramatic. into tuesday the coolest day and a slight warm up for wednesday. back they planned to open that by 2015. napa said organizes for the first ever bottle rock festival still owe the city a lot of money. organizers had until thursday to repay taxpayers for using city were hurt. it happened after a large group fell on top of each other. many were crushed in the pile but two runners were reportedly attacked by a charging bull. the bull runs are part of a nine day street festival. it ends tomorrow. >> this morning the russian government said it has not received a formal appeal for asylum from edward snowden. he came out of hiding at the airport yesterday to announce he would seek asylum. it could be a temporary move before going to countries that have offered him protection. the president spoke with the russian president yesterday about snowden. the white house said that russia gave him a platform by letting him meet with activists. a panel is pushing for more safety after last year's -- fire at the chevron refinery. the panel is suggesting a task force be created as part of the state epa and use existing regulators from other agencies. the force would have greater control over penalties related to refinery accidents and would develop a monitoring system. >> if approved, it marks a historic change for the uc system. the board of ridge entities is expected to meet next thursday and elect the next president of the university of california. she stepped down as secretary of homeland security. she would be the first woman to lead the ten campus uc system. the lieutenant governor who sits on the board said her ability as a live from the scene with the dramatic ending that led to the suspect's arrest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it was a scary scene for a lot of the other store owners. one man told me that essentially he was two doors away, heard the gun fire inside of 888 brandon street this is the gift center and jewelry area. some shop owner was returning to close up shop because yesterday they left in a hurry. two women were left dead in this attack. they were both employees of a jewelry store located on the basement level of this building. polices say there was a man who was seriously wounded and witnesses are telling us that he is the store's owner. investigators right now aren't saying what the motive was for this crime. the man police say carried out this deadly attack opened fire on the first officers who showed up at this scene. this was outside on the street . none of them were hit and when the man eventually ran out of ammunition he gave up. police right now are not releasing the gunman's name. s.w.a.t searched the building yesterday for any other possible shooters but they believe this man acted alone. i talked to a store owner who said he hid out during the attack. >> scary, i was actually about two stores away from the incident and we heard a really loud gun shot and we started hiding. you know, 30 seconds later we heard more shots and you can just imagine it was really scary >> reporter: police recovered a hand gun and a folding knife from the crime scene. that store owner who was injured in the attack remains in critical condition in the hospital but we are told by police that he is expected to survive. surveillance video from this area suggests that the gunman did act alone and that the chief of police here in san francisco also said that this is not the first time this man had been inside this building. while police aren't saying what the connection was between the attacker in this case and the victims, some of the other store owners i talked too said this doesn't seem like it was a robbery. they believe that this was some kind of personal dispute that led up to this deadly attack. live in san francisco, alex savage. >> a father of a missing oakland child is out of jail this morning and he said he is upset about his daughter's disappearance. he was arrested on suspicious of child endangerment after his daughter went missing on wednesday. last night he was released from jail after prosecutors decided not to file charges against him. he told police that he left his daughter in a car with his mother who he said has dementia as he went inside a store. he said the girl was gone when he returned. >> my daughter is missing and i have to live with that even though i'm out of jail i'm still not free. that's how i feel. >> he said both he and his wife had nothing to do with their daughter's disappearance. last night a vigil was held where she was reported missing. >> new this morning san jose police are investigating a deadly shooting. it happened at about 9:45 last night on state and archer street. the victim was talking to someone on the sidewalk when a gunman walked up and shot him. he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. so far no arrests have been made. and we know the identity of the man killed in a large apartment fire in redwood. the san mateo coroner has identified him as a 48-year- old. more than 20 people including several firefighters were hurt and nearly 100 tenants were left without a place to live. the cause is still under investigation but it's believed to have started in the third floor. cal rocea is investigating after a janitor was crushed and killed. the 43-year-old was found about ten thursday night inside a machine used to crush card board. investigators are inspecting that machine. the janitor worked there for five-years. grief counselor s will be there today. >> all four run yeahs at sfo are open this morning. we talked to the airport duty manager who said there are minimal delays. one rey 2-8 left opened two day as head of schedule. it was closed for nearly a week because of the crash. workers laid down nearly a thousand tons of asphalt and removed jet fuel that had spilled from the fuel. the airlines and it's insurance agent will pay for the repairs. passengers are confident things are getting back to normal. >> don't have any reservations, i'm confident in the pilots and the flight staff. i'm looking forward for him to have a good trip >> the first plane to land on it was a southwest airlines flight just a little after five. the burned out fusel aps being kept in a fenced off area, sfo said it'll probably stay on the property for at least another week. the plane has been attracting on lookers. people have driven by and stopped to take pictures with the air craft. >> i cannot even believe i'm here watching this. i can't believe i can stand here and see this wreckage up close and personal. >> sfo officials say it's up to asiana to dispose of the wreck inland wreckage. >> doctors at san francisco general said they did all they could but a third crash victim has died. as the family mourns they have asked the hospital not to release details like her age, name or her injuries. doctors do say she had been in the intensive care unit since the crash. >> we habeen asked by the family to provide them with time and space to appropriately mourn this tragic loss. >> san francisco general treated a total of 67 people from flight 214. 36 adults and 31 children children. two patients listed in critical condition. stanford hospital has one patient in serious condition. san francisco police chief confirms that one of the teens who died on the day of the crash was run over by an emergency vehicle. he said the body of the 16-year- old was found on the ground covered with foam that the fire crews used to put owl the fire. the coroner is still trying to determine her cause of death. >> a deadly crash near vacaville is being investigated. it was reported on pleasant valley road. early reports indicate a vehicle overturned and at least two people were inside that vehicle. the chp said one person died at the scene. >> your time is 8:08 and than 2,000 demonstrators filling the capitol in austin. the governor texas said he will sign it the next few days. it bans abortions after 20 weeks and requires them to take place in surgical centers. democrats who delayed it last month say they plan to take that issue to court. >> california attorney general calls a petition to stop gay marriages in california baseless. the state started allowing them two days after the court dismissed proposition 8 but measures supporters have filed a petition claiming that the proposition should still be law since the court didn't specifically rule on the constitution ality of gay marriage. the filing also argue that the suit against proposition eight only named two counties, and so the ban should still apply in the other 56. the governor is urging the initial collapse but when they got to him they could actually see him for a little bit, tried to dig him out and the total collapse happened. >> the boy was taken to the hospital. he was playing in an area that was closed for restoration. a lunchtime dare is likely to blame for making more than a dozen sick in san diego. school officials say 22 elementary school students dared each other to drink an attack at a jewelry marte. what witnesses say they heard during the chaos. good morning. welcome back. >> san francisco police are investigating a deadly attack at a san francisco gold and jewelry store. it happened yesterday at about 2:15 located in basement of a gift marte. two women were killed and a man injured. other shop owners say the women were employees and that the match is the store owner. the suspect is in police custody. he was arrested after firing shots at officers. >> there was a lot of screaming and just people running up and down the hallways, frantic. >> we ducked into a room and then they started locking the doors, from there they told us to get in the back of the building. >> suspect was treated for superficial rooms. the male victim is in critical condition but is expected to survive. investigators found a foldable knife and gun at the scene. they say they don't know the motive right now. the owners of 888 brandon said we are saddened by the shootings at 888 brandon. we extend our sympathies. the attack caused scary moments. police evacuated the stores inside the jewelry marte. other office buildings nearby were locked down. people were finally allowed to leave about four hours after the shooting. we talked to a store owner who said she knows the two women when were killed and said one victim was in her 30s, the other in her 40s. >> very nice people. i mean, two nice girls and the owner, very nice person. >> the identities of those victims have not been released. >> poisonous meat balls could pose a threat to humans. the tainted meat balls were found in the twin peaks and diamond heights neighborhoods. they contained levels of poison that could be lethel for humans. they warn that poison could be absorbed through the skin. police are advising anyone that comes across anything suspicious call the police and if your dog eats one contact the vet immediately. san francisco animal care and control said a dog named oscar died after he ate one of the meat balls. his owner said oscar ate it in their diamond heights neighborhood on july 3rd. police say they have found dozens of other tainted meat balls and continue to look for the person responsible. >> now to the crash of flight 214, sfo runway 2-8 left is operational again. it reopened just after five last night. two days ahead of schedule with only three runways in service. the airport had to work quickly to reopen due to continued flight delays. workers put down new asphalt, replaced navigation lights and removed jet fuel that spilled from the plane. officials say asiana and it's insurance agent will pay for the repairs. doctors at san francisco general say they did everything they could but a third crash victim, another girl has died. as the family griefs they ask the hospital not to release details like age, name or the her injuries. doctors said she had been in the intensive care unit since the crash. a group of students in south korea gathered to pay respects to the victims. they bowed their heads and held a flower. there was also a photograph of two of the teens killed on the day of the crash. a student red a sympathy letter that will be sent to the teen's families. the group then went to the embassy to offer mess inland communities of support and sympathy. >> a tour bus driver arrested in san francisco on drunk driving charges is scheduled to be arraign the later this month. the 60-year-old was arrested last friday near stockton and poe streets. he was driving a delux sightseeing tour bus when he was arrested. he faces charges that include driving under the influence and driving with an open container of alcohol. his arraignment is set for july 22nd. and a teen is recovering after falling through a sky light in a funeral home. the 13-year-old broke through the glass. he fell 15 feet and suffered deep cuts from the glass. firefighters say he lost a lot of blood but is now in stable condition. they are trying to find out what he was doing on that roof and how he fell. >> a jury awarded a family one million dollars in a civil lawsuit filed against the city of san jose. the case stems from the 2007 death of steve solinas. he died in a confrontation after an officer used a taser on him. families say he was high on pcp at the time but the attorney said he was unarmed and argued that the taser use was excessive and contradicted to his death. >> there is wrongful death out there. a lot of cases aren't proven but we took this to trial and i'm happy that we did. >> san jose city attorney said the city is disappointed in the ruling and is considering appealing. oakland city workers could get their first pay race in six years. that's after the city and two of its largest unions reached a possible deal on a new contract to give the workers a 2% race this monday and a 1% raise next july. workers staged a one day strike during the negotiations. >> it is a wait and see game for people in bay area who depend on bart to get to work and get around every day and the possibility of another strike is still looming. now both sides metaphor several hours in oakland yesterday to continue labor negotiations. worker contract extensions expire at the beginning of next month. and if they do not reach a deal the unions have said they will strike again. they aren't available for the weekend so talks aren't scheduled to resume until monday morning. bart police are also looking for a couple caught on video having sex in a train car. officers believe a third person used a cell phone to take pictures of them. lewd activity is illegal, violater cscope be banned from riding. investigators say the video is grainy but they are hoping it'll help them identity the people involved. >> a temporary fix is being proposed that could let the new eastern span open by labor day. it was delayed after the find of cracked bolts but now a solution is being proposed. it would install shims to it burned 47 square miles of brush . the fire started on may 30th. it was contained two weeks later. it lets the county qualify for federal funds, that would be used to prepare roadways damaged by the blaze. > the homeland security secretary is moving to be the next president of the university of california. she stepped down yesterday as secretary of homeland security. she would be the first woman 2:15 at the store located in the basement of the gift center and jewelry mart at 8th and brannon. two women were killed and a man was seriously hurt. other shop owners say the women were employees and the man is the store owner. the suspect is in police custody. he was arrested after police say he fired shots at officers. >> there was a lot of screaming and just people running up and down the hallways, frantic. >> we ducked into a room. then they started locking the doors. from there, they told us to get in the back of the building. >> the suspect was treated for superficial wounds. the male victim is in critical condition, but is expected to survive. investigators say they found a foldable knife and revolver at the scene. they also say they do not have a motive right now. the owners of 888 issued a statement saying, in part, we are truly saddened bit shootings. we extend our sympathies to the families of those involved. yesterday's deadly -- [ no audio ] >> two very nice girls. owner, very nice person. >> there was a short evacuation, but eventually people were allowed to come back in. it lasted about four hours after the shooting. one store owner you heard from says she reported shortly before 5:00 this morning on pleasant valley road near foot hill drive. early reports indicate that the vehicle may have overturned. there were at least two people in that vehicle. the chp says one person died at the scene. the father of a missing oakland toddler is out of jail this morning and he says he is distraught about his daughter's disappearance. 49-year-old john webb was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after his 21-month- old daughter daphne went missing on wednesday. last night, webb was released from jail, after prosecutors decided not to file charges against him. webb told police he left his daughter in a car with his mother, who he says has dementia, while he went inside a convenience store in oakland. he says daphne was gone when he returned. >> my daughter is missing, and i have to live with that, even though i'm out of jail, still not free. >> webb says both he and his wife had nothing to do with their daughter's disappearance. last night, a vigil was held in the east oakland neighborhood where daphne was reported missing. san jose police are investigating a deadly shooting. it happened 9:45 last night on state and archer street. the victim was talking with someone on the sidewalk when a gunman walked up and shot him. he was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. so far, no arrests have been made. new information about the man killed in a large apartment fire in redwood city. the san mateo county coroner's office identifies him as 48- year-old darren michael pine. more than 20 people, including several firefighters, were hurt. nearly a hundred tenants left without a place to live. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. but officials believe it started in the victim's third floor apartment. happening now, all four run ways at sfo are open this morning, and we just talked to the airport duty manager, who says there are minimal flight delays. runway 28-left opened last night, two days ahead of schedule. it was closed for nearly a week because of last saturday's crash. workers laid down a thousand tons of new asphalt, replaced navigation lights, and removed jet fuel that had spilled from the after 5:00 last night. minutes ago, the associated press quoting chinese state media released the name of the third person to die in the crash of 214. the girl died yesterday morning at san francisco general hospital. chinese state media have identified her as lia yi pang and say she was a student who went to the same school as the other girls who died in the crash. her grieving family has asked the hospital not to release information about her, but doctors did say she has been in the intensive care unit since the crash. >> we've been asked by the family to provide them with some time and some space to appropriately mourn this tragic loss. >> san francisco general treated a total of 67 people from flight 214. 36 adults and 31 children were included. there are still six crash victims in the hospital, one male adult and five females, including a girl. two patients are listed in critical condition. stanford hospital has one patient in serious condition. san francisco police chief greg suhr confirms that one of the chinese teenagers who died on the day of the crash was run over by an emergency vehicle. he says the body of 16-year-old yi among wen was found on the ground, covered with foam that the fire crews had used to extinguish the fire on the plane. the san mateo county coroner's office is still trying to determine her exact cause of death. happening now, jurors in the george zimmerman murder trial are deliberating for a second day. they will decide whether the neighborhood watchman committed a crime or acted in self defense when he shot and killed 17-year-old rosemary. a big race on san francisco bay is finally scheduled to take place today. the world's most famous sailing competition, the america's cup has had problems up to this day. but two challengers races involving just a single boat out on the bay, but today, the competition really heats up. we'll have our first head-to- head race involving two america's cup challengers. before that all happens, presentation as well, and then eventually at noon, 12:15 to be precise, two america's cup challengers will finally square off against each other out on the water. italy's luna rosa team will face the emirates team of new zealand at 12:15. this is the first head-to-head matchup in the louis vuitton cup, a preclude to the america's cup that happens this september. these boats will be going fast today, close to 46 miles per hour. both the emirates team and the luna rosa team have only sailed in solo races so far. that's because their scheduled opponent is still working to get back on the the governor of texas will sign the bill in the next few days, banning abortions after 20 weeks and requires all abortions take place in surgical centers. democrats who successfully delayed the bill last month through a late night filibuster plan to take the issue to the courts. in ohio, the man accused of holding three women captive for a decade now faces nearly a thousand criminal charges. prosecutors have filed a 977- count indictment against suspect ariel castro. charges include rape, kidnapping and aggravated murder. castro is accused of starving and punching one of his victims who was pregnant until she miscarried. prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty. in france, investigators are looking into whether a faulty switch may have caused a train derailment last night that killed six people near paris. nearly 200 people were hurt in the crash and nine are still in critical condition. the packed train had just left paris, with 385 passengers on board when it crashed right into a station platform. investigators say human error has already been ruled out as a cause. it is france's deadliest crash in years. it has been one week since a train derailment devastated a small town in canadian quebec. these photos show what is left after 72 tanker cars carrying crude oil jumped the track last week and exploded. 50 people are presumed dead and 28 people are confirmed dead. the chair of canada's transportation safety board says it could be months before investigators know what happened. operations are back under way at london's heathrow airport, but an investigation is being launched after an empty boeing 787 dreamliner caught fire. officials say the fire started on an ethiopian airline 787, more than eight hours after it had landed. now, the fire was not near the lithium batteries. remember, the batteries were the issue that caused the grounding of the dreamliner fleet back in january. in a separate incident yesterday, a florida-bound 787 was forced to return to england after it developed an unspecified mechanical issue. california attorney general kamala harris calls a petition to stop gay marriages in california quote, baseless. the state began allowing same- sex marriages two days after the state dismissed prop 8, but a petition has been filed with the california supreme court, claiming prop 8 should still be law since the high court did not specifically rule on the constitutionality of gay marriage. governor brown is urging the california supreme court to reject these arguments. lawyers for brown and harris filed a brief in state court. in it, it says after years of litigation, there is now a final determination that proposition 8 is unconstitutional. plenty of people will likely head to the state it was contained two weeks later. the emergency declaration will allow that county to qualify for federal emergency highway funds to repair roadways damaged by the blaze. a new study is linking fracking to earthquakes. fracking involves blasting chemicals, water and sand deep into the earth in order to extract oil and gas. researchers say southern and eastern parts of the u.s. had more than 300 earthquakes in the last three years. they suspect the quakes may have been triggered by the injection of waste water into deep underground wells. they say the process can destabilize fault lines. the study is published in the journal of science. in this morning's weekly address, president obama says overhauling the nation's immigration system can provide a big boost to the economic recovery. >> here in america, we've always been a nation of immigrants. that's what's kept our work force dynamic, our businesses on the cutting edge, and our economy the strongest in the world. but under the current system, too many smart, hard-working immigrants are prevented from contributing to that success. >> the senate has already passed a bipartisan bill, but the president says the to martha's vineyard next month for a nine-day vacation. it is going to be their fourth summer trip to the massachusetts island since he became president in 2009. a trip to the beach almost cost the life of a 6-year-old boy in indiana. he fell into a sinkhole in the sand near the lake michigan shoreline. he was buried for three and a half hours under 101 feet of sand. emergency crews say they had a very difficult time digging him out. he was falling deeper into the sand as they approached him. >> this is unprecedented. they didn't actually see the initial collapse, but when they got to him, they could actually see him for a little bit, tried to dig him out and that's when the total collapse, as they described it, happened. >> the boy was air lifted to a chicago area hospital. he was the airport. ; . two women are dead after an attack at the san francisco jewelry mart. what witnesses say they heard during the chaos. >> good morning. welcome back to mornings on 2, everyone. i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. san francisco police are investigating a deadly attack at a san francisco gold and jewelry store. it happened yesterday at about 2:15 at a store located in the basement of the gift center and jewelry mart, which is all at 8th and brannon. two women were killed and a man seriously hurt. other shop owners say the women were employees and the man is the store owner. the suspect is in police custody. he was arrested after police say he fired shots at officers. >> there was a lot of screaming and just people running up and down the hallways, frantic. >> we ducked into a room. then they started locking the doors. from there, they told us to get in the back of the building. >> the suspect was treated for superficial wounds. the male victim is in critical condition, but he is expected to survive. the investigators say they found a foldable knife and revolver at the scene and they say at this point, they don't have a motive. the owners of 888 brannon issued a statement staying in part, we are truly saddened by the shootings at 888 brannon. we extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those involved. yesterday's deadly attack caused very scary moments for business owners and shoppers. police evacuated the 20 or so stores inside the jewelry mart. other office buildings nearby were locked down and people were finally allowed to leave four hours after the shooting. we talked to one store owner who says she knows the two women killed. one victim was in her thirties, the other in her forties. >> very nice people. two nice girls and the owner, very nice person. >> the identities of the victims have not yet been released. now to the crash of flight 214. the duty manager at san francisco international airport tells us any delays at the airport are about 15 minutes or less this morning now that runway 28-left is once again operational. it reopened last night, two days ahead of schedule, with only three run ways in service the airport had worked quickly to reopen 28-left due to continued flight delays and cancellations. workers put down new asphalt, replaced navigation lights and removed jet fuel that had spilled from the aircraft. sfo officials say asiana airlines and its insurance agent will pay for the repairs. the burned-out fuselage is being kept in a fenced-off area at the airport. sfo says the wreckage will probably stay on the property for at least another week. the plane has been attracting onlookers. some people have driven by and even stopped to take pictures with the aircraft. >> i cannot even believe i'm here watching this. i can't believe i can stand here and see this wreckage up close and personal. >> sfo officials say it is up to the airline to dispose of the wreckage now that ntsb investigators say they have completed their onsite investigation. well, just about 30 minutes ago, the associated press quoting chinese state media, released the name of the third person to die in the crash of flight 214. the girl died yesterday morning at san francisco general hospital. chinese state media identified her as lia yi tang and says she was a student who went to the same school as the other two girls who died on the day of the crash. her grieving family has asked the hospital not to release information about her. doctors did say she had been in the intensive care unit since the crash. a group of students in south korea gathered to pay their respects to the victims. the service included mourners bowing their heads and holding a flower. there was also a photo of the two chinese teenagers killed on that day of the crash. the south korean student read a condolence letter that will be sent to the teens' families. a south korean group went to the chinese embassy in seoul to offer sympathy. a janitor was crushed and killed at a grocery outlet store in redwood city. 43-year-old mindy uto was found 10:00 thursday night inside a machine that is used to crush cardboard boxes. investigators are now inspecting the machine. grocery outlet chain says uto worked with the company for about five years. grief counselors are going to be at the store today. a teenage boy is recovering from serious injuries after falling through a skylight at a funeral home in mill valley. the 13-year-old broke through glass on the roof of fern wood last night. the marine independent journal reports he fell 15 feet and suffered deep cuts from the glass. firefighters say he lost a lot of blood, but was in stable condition at marin general. they are still trying to figure out what he was doing on the roof and how he fell. a tour bus driver arrested in san francisco on drunk driving charges is scheduled to be arraigned later this month. 60-year-old leon maynard was arrested last friday near stockton and post streets. police say he was driving a deluxe sight seeing tour bus when he was taken into custody. he is facing several charges, which include driving under the influence and driving with an open container of alcohol. his arraignment is set for july 22nd. hikers at san mateo's wunderlich county park are being warned about a mountain lion, spotted on the bear gold's trail yesterday morning about 10:30. authorities say if you come across a mountain lion, make noise, try to look bigger or throw rocks, but avoid running away. poisonous meat balls found in two san francisco neighborhoods could also pose a threat to humans. the tainted meat balls were found in the twin peaks and diamond heights area last week containing levels of strike nine that could be potentially lethal for humans. they also warn the poison can be absorbed through the skin. police advise anyone who comes across anything suspicious to call 911. if you think your dog has eaten the meat balls, contact a veterinarian immediately. san francisco animal care and control says a dog named oscar has died apparently from eating one of those meat balls. his owner says oscar ate one in their diamond heights neighborhood back on july 3rd. police have found dozens of the tainted meat balls and continue to look for the person responsible. oakland city workers could soon get their first pay raise in six years. that's after the city and two of its largest unions reached a tentative deal on a new contract. it would give some 3500 workers a 2% raise this month and a 1% raise next july. last week, city workers staged a one-day strike during the contract negotiations. it's a wait and see game for people in the bay area who depend on bart to get to work every day and the possibility of another strike looms. both sides met for several hours in oakland yesterday to continue labor negotiations. worker contract extensions expire at the beginning of next month and if they do not reach a deal, they say they will strike again. since mediators are not available over the weekend, they are not scheduled to resume talks until monday morning. bart police are looking for a couple caught on video having sex in a train car. officers believe a third person used a cell phone to take pictures of the couple. lewd activity on bart is illegal. violators can be banned from riding on transit. investigators say the video is a little grainy, but they hope it will help identify the people involved. a temporary fix is being proposed that could allow the new eastern span of the bay bridge to open by labor day. the bridge's opening date was delayed following the discovery of cracked bolts back in march, but now an independent bridge engineer is proposing a temporary solution. it calls for installing metal shims, which would strengthen the earthquake supports and allow that bridge to open while long-term repairs are made. bridge officials say they have asked the federal highway administration to review that proposal. even though the opening date of the new eastern span is on hold, some finishing touches are still being made. yesterday, crews paved the self- anchored suspicion span with special asphalt that contains a high strength epoxy glue. the asphalt is only two inches thick and is designed to flex with the bridge. they also say the special asphalt is easier to fix and maintain. google is delaying construction of its new campus at the nasa aims research center. sources say work will be delayed by six to 12 months because the company wants to improve the design. this is an artist rendering of the proposed bayview campus. google had previously said it planned to open the new campus by 2015. well, a heads-up for drivers in san francisco. a repaving project on market street is affecting traffic there. the work is taking place along market between 4th and 6th. cars, bikes and several muni lines are being detoured around the area. work is expected to be completed by sunday. repaving work will improve curb lanes and provide smoother rides for drivers, as well as bicyclists. a popular beer festival that raises money to fight breast cancer will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at fort mason center. the event began in 2000 to support low income women. the event features dozens of bay area and west coast breweries. . we have a minor warmup in rebound. we are sort of locked in this pattern here. we have a trough off the coastline, ridge of high pressure to the east of us. they are giving us just a gentle tug back and forth. for your weekend, this ridge pulls west, warming our air mass. it's also bringing in a warmup that will lead to anywhere from 3 to 6 degrees for inland communities, also dying down is the onshore breeze and yesterday about 2:15 at the store at 8th and brannon. two women were killed and a man was seriously hurt. the motive is still unclear. and today, the search does continue for 21-month-old daphne webb in oakland. webb's father was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after his daughter went missing on wednesday. last night, he was released from jail after prosecutors decided not to file charges. and we are just two and a half hours away from the first real race in connection to the america's cup. the skippers of the two boats say the speeds could reach nearly 46 miles an hour. ktvu's alex savidge is live along the san francisco waterfront with all the preparations. alex? >> reporter: yeah, well, a lot of excitement out here. of course you have racing fans coming here to san francisco from all around the world. and today, things are really going to sort of ramp up here, because after solo races, races involving just single boats, today we finally have head-to- head competition. two america's cup challengers squaring off out on the water. that will happen, again, just after noon today. italy's luna rosa team will be facing the emirates team of new zealand at 12:15, when the race kicks off. this will be the first head-to- head matchup in the louis vuitton challenger cup series, a prelude to the america's cup that will happen this september. these boats will be going fast today, could be sailing close to 46 miles an hour whether they near the end of the race is what we're told. now, both the emirates team and the luna rosa team have only sailed in solo races so far. that's because their scheduled opponent in both races, artimas racing is still working to get back on the water, following an accident back in may that killed one crewmember. now, a short time ago i talked with one man who works at an america's cup merchandise store. he told me that he thinks today there will be big crowds out here. [ no audio ] >> reporter: this gentleman i spoke with did tell me he thought there would be large crowds out here today, and he encouraged people to come down. he says it's a great day for a race and, again, this will be the first head-to-head race during the louis vuitton cup series, happening at 12:15 today. back out here to a live picture, before that race gets going today, there will be a lot of action here at the america's cup pavillion. they will open gates here 15 minutes or so from right now and folks will stream inside. a marching band comes inside as well and the america's cup will uc board of regents is expected to meet next thursday and elect janet napolitano as the next president of the university of california. she stepped down yesterday as secretary of homeland security. government says it has not received a formal appeal for asylum from nsa leaker edward snowden. he did come out of hiding yesterday at the moscow airport to announce he would seek asylum. it could be a temporary move before he heads to venezuela, bolivia or nicaragua, all countries that have offered him protection. president obama spoke with the russian president putin yesterday about snowden. the white house says russia gave snowden a propaganda platform by letting him meet with human rights activists yesterday. more people have been hurt in the annual running of the bulls in spain. an american college student and two span yarred were gored. now there is word another 20 people were hurt at the entrance of the ring, after a large group of people fell on top of each other. many were crushed in the pile, but two runners were reportedly attacked by a charging bull. the nine-day street festival in pamplona ends tomorrow. the royal baby watch is in full force in london. media outlets from around the world are all camped outside the hospital where the duchess of cambridge is going to give birth. her due date is believed to be any day now. some say it's today. when the baby is finally on the way, the palace is going to announce that the duchess has been admitted to the hospital. the eight-month wait is finally over for people looking to get their fix of those twinkies. wal-mart has started selling the treats at about 1600 of its stores. the company hopes to have them available in about 3000 bay area stores by tomorrow. other retailers should get those iconic snacks confrontation at a motel after an officer repeatedly used a taser. their attorney says salinas was unarmed and argued the taser use was excessive and contributed to the death of salinas. >> there is wrongful death out there, you know, and a lot of cases aren't proven. we took this to trial and i'm really happy that we did. >> san jose city attorney says the city is very disappointed in the ruling and is considering an appeal. penn state is offering settlements to some of jerry sandusky's sex abuse victims. the school's board of trustees says it has tentative agreements. so far, none of the agreements have been signed. last year, sandusky was sentenced to serve more than 30 years in prison for sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period. and families of the victims who died in last year's sandy hook school shooting will each receive $281,000. that's the decision of the committee in charge of distributing the donations in newtown, connecticut. according to the hartford current, families of surviving victims will get $20,000 each. two teachers who were hurt in the shooting will split $150,000. country music singer randy travis remains in critical condition, under heavy sedation at a hospital in texas. doctors performed surgery earlier there week to relieve pressure on his brain, after he suffered a stroke. it was a complication from heart failure. his publicyst is asking travis' fans for prayers and support. nelson mandela's wife says she is less anxious about his health than she was last week. she says the former president of south africa continues to respond positively for treatment. the 94-year-old has been in the hospital with a recurring lung infection for five weeks. a lunchtime dare is likely to blame for making more than a dozen students sick in san diego. school officials say 22 elementary school students dared each other to drink milk with salt, pepper, carrots and hot sauce mixed in. well, it didn't take long, as you can imagine, for the students to get sick. 18 had to be taken to the hospital, but they were later released. the city of napa says organizers for the first-ever bottle rock festival owe the city a lot of money. festival organizers had until thursday to reimburse taxpayers for using city services two months ago at the event. the city manager told the napa register some of the money has been paid back, but event organizers still owe more than $100,000. organizers say those debts will be paid. police in sacramento county are planning a big alcohol crackdown, as thousands of people rushed to the river today for this year's rafting gone wild. alcohol is banned along portions of the american river, but police say this event brings a lot of booze to the waterways and some problems. last year, more than 3000 people took part in the event. 23 people were aested. we want to tell you about an amazing rescue where a man swam five hours to save his family after their boat capsized. it happened during a storm off the coast of maryland on wednesday. 46-year-old john riggs managed to swim to shore, despite rough conditions. once on land, he ran for help, knocking on the very first door he saw. >> it wasn't an option. it had to be done. i had been out there all night. >> rescue crews eventually reached his four family members, two hours later. they were clinging to the upside down boat. following the success of the cable network animal planet, there's now a new channel devoted to -- [ no audio ] >> the dog tv network makes a splash beginning august 1st. directv is launching the channel with
