missing about 1:05 this morning. the federal aviation administration says it believes there were four people on board. reports indicate there was a pilot, a patient, a nurse, and a paramedic on board. the life flight pilot indicated due to smoke in the cockpit, he was going to return to the airport. but, contact with the plane was lost about five miles northeast. very close to where the plane was found. smoke in the cockpit is a serious danger because smoke can be highly toxic and it obliterates the pilot's ability to see the instruments which could result in a crash. the sheriff's office is coordinating the search along with the chp. this crash did create a bit of a vegetation fire which cal fire is on. and, the bottom line is of the four people, the fate of only two is known. they are dead. the other two i'm sure they are still looking for and they are inspecting the fuselage. tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. >> thanks tom. now to a developing story out of san diego where a police officer has been shot and killed and a second officer is in the hospital. >> alex savidge is here now with the update you just got from the police chief on the ongoing investigation. >> still an active situation at this hour in san diego. good afternoon. >> reporter: the chief in san diego called this a senseless murder. a veteran officer was gunned down in the line of duty last night and his fellow officer was badly injure. let me show you video that came in a short time ago. one man has been taken into custody in connection with this attack and you see the scene, police are surrounding a home in san diego. trying to capture a second man who may have also been involved in that deadly shooting that happened about 11:00 last night. a few miles south of downtown san diego. two members of the department's gang suppression unit were involved in some sort of a stop here. and almost immediately, they were both met with gunfire. both of them hit several times in the upper body. jonathan deguzman, a 16 year veteran of the course ultimately died from his injuries. >> a loving caring husband, father, talked about his family all the time. i know him. this is gut-wrenching. he came to work every single day. just wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of our community. and last night, he lost his life trying to make a positive difference and protect our community. we all took an oath to protect and serve all of our communities. and to have this happen to our police officers, we have seen this happen way too many times. just in his last few weeks across our great country. it is tragic for everyone. >> and the police chief in san diego says at this point, she doesn't know what the motive was for last night's shooting and it still remains unclear if this was a traffic stop or a car that was pulled over or maybe someone who was just stopped walking along the street. interestingly enough, we are learning the officer killed last night in san diego had a close call on the job back in 2003. de guzman was stabbed during a traffic stop. in 2003, he was given a purple heart by the city of san diego at that time and we saw what took place. one officer was killed in the shooting. the officer who survived last night shooting identified as nine year veteran wade irwin. he remains in serious condition in the hospital. >> thank you alex. in the south bay, san jose police are investigating a homicide near downtown. it happened near willow street around 10:00 last night. they found a man suffering from one gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk. police say it appears that the man who was driving a mercedes was first robbed and then when he tried to chase after the robber, that is when he was shot and killed. he was pronounced dead at the scene marking san jose's 29th homicide of the year. now to san francisco where four people are in custody after trying to break into a warehouse in the bay view. >> what investigators say the suspects were after. >> reporter: well, what started this whole thing was a simple alarm call from the owner to san francisco police and behind me is the marijuana plants. apparently the burglars were after. this is a warehouse behind me in rankin and oakdale. police are investigating what happened. there was a lot of police activity this morning. i want to show you video of officers. they use the cutters to breakthrough. about nine or ten officers stormed in just around 7:00 this morning. san francisco police say this all started earlier this morning when the owner of the warehouse saw at least one person inside through his surveillance camera system. that is when he called police. turns out there were four people inside. police were telling me the four men were trying to break into the warehouse to steal marijuana plants. police tell me that the warehouse was a relatively small operation. it is unclear if this was a legal or an illegal one. but they knew the marijuana was here and broke into the warehouse through a metal garage door and kept it pried open using a tire. overall, no shots were fired. nobody was hurt and four people taken into custody. as we take it back out here, again, you see the tire used to pry the door open. about two or three hours, a two- block radius around oakdale and rankin was closed off. but it has since cleared up. in san francisco, i'm brian flores, ktvu fox 2 news. meanwhile, police are investigating a beating that happened early yesterday morning in an ally near fifth and mission street. police say a man was allegedly urinating, knocked and kicked a man unconscious when he was confronted by a man about it. they have identified the attacker through surveillance video but have not found him. the victim is expect today recover. a man is in critical condition in the same area after being hit by a san francisco fire truck when he ran out into traffic. the san francisco fire truck had its lights and sirens on. the man was near the intersection of mission and sixth. ran across two lanes of traffic. the man was on its way to a medical emergency. the crew stayed at the scene and gave the individual medical care. police are investigating the incident. pacifica police arrested a man accused in a number of sex crimes, some involving underaged boys who were drugged and they are looking for more victims. 31-year-old joseph courtney was taken into custody. he has an extensive history of criminal sexual behavior. he used websites and smartphone apps to find his victims and used date rape drugs. any other victims are urged to call pacifica police. now to the latest on the trial of the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. a hearing for garcia-torres was scheduled for 9:00 this morning in santa clara county court but has been pushed to monday. lamar disappeared in march of 2012 on her way to school. prosecutors say there is dna evidence linking lamar to garcia-torres. we are told that cameras will not be allowed for the trial. well, with two weeks of political conventions now in the rear-view mirror, the democratic national convention just wrapped up in philadelphia. >> caroline has the latest deliver fresh produce to low income families was stolen. where deputies found cigarette after a week of scorching temperatures, especially inland, many communities are excited for relief. six more michigan employees are now being charged with crimes related to the flint water crisis. all six are charged with misconduct in office, willful neglect of duty and conspiracy. flint's drinking water became contaminated after the city switched from detroit to water from the river near flint. doctors later discovered the dangerous amounts of lead in many flint residents including many children. the latest on the fire that is burning in monterrey county. it is now burning through more than 32,000 acres and is only 15% contained since it started one week ago. fire officials say it destroyed 43 homes and more than 2,000 homes are threatened. evacuation orders are still in effect. >> the fire is in probably one of the most difficult stretches of land in the state of california to fight fire in. historicallyings fires in this area give us a lot of problems. >> last night, firefighters and members of the community gathered for a moment of silence for robert reagan. the bulldozer operator who died earlier this week battling the wild fire. the 35-year-old private contractor from fresno county leaves behind a wife and two daughters. there is a go fund me account set up to help his family. it is at almost $53,000 so far. >> a lot of people donating to that. just a horrible, horrible situation. a beautiful family. in los angeles, fire crews are monitoring hot spots from the so-called spunky fire that broke out yesterday afternoon. investigators say it started as a car fire on spunky road in the lake hughes area. the fire quickly spread into nearby brush burning dozens of acres and briefly forcing the evacuation of several homes. the evacuation orders were lifted. today, crews are keeping an eye on it making sure it doesn't flare back up. the sand fire burning in santa clarita has scorched 39,000 acres. that is about 61 square miles. there is some good news though. officials say the fire is 85% contained. an estimated 20,000 people evacuated their hopes but most have been able to return. the fire started last friday. the cause still under investigation. let's take a peek outside. so many of us are sick of the extreme heat. >> today we have one more day of the fifth day in a row, we have this. a spare the air alert in the bay area. moderate levels for the santa clara valley. unhealthy for the sensitive groups. we are not extreme just yet. here we go with the fog. this is at cape mendocino and humboldt county, point conception. the bay area in between with mostly cloudy skies over the coastline right now. and the beaches only in the 50s to the lower 60s . but, inland away from that marine influence, temperatures have been warming up. recovering already. up to 90 degrees. san jose, 79. oakland, 70. san francisco, checking in 60 degrees. pleasant readings up here in the north bay for santa rosa, novato, and napa. the forecast headlines for today. coastal fog. hot inland. this weekend, a bit of a cooling trend and no major heat into early next week. temperatures will actually be a little more comfortable. this evening giants baseball at at&t park, we are expecting partly cloudy skies. definitely cool at the ballpark throughout richmond, 72. around the rim of the bay, you will see this. more 70s and more 80s head out toward bretwood. antioch. 102 degrees. still excessive heat for parts of the bay area. san jose, mid 80s . gilroy, temperatures it will be hot today. in fact, it will be the hottest day of the three-day period. temperatures approaching 96. in san francisco, 66. still patchy fog. if you are headed to the coast. bring the sweater, bring the coat. you will need it throughout the afternoon hours. a look ahead. the five day forecast and temperatures, we are shaving off a few degrees into saturday. no longer triple digits. by sunday, we are just thinking lower 90s . if you are not a fan of the heat, you will be celebrating over the five day forecast. by monday and tuesday, warmest locations right leandro are crediting a good samaritan for stopping a woman from being kidnapped. >> deputies have recovered a trailer stolen from the alameda county sheriff's office. >> as ktvu fox 2 news' christien kafton reports, when they found the trailer, they discovered many stolen items. >> reporter: all of this unfolded in the area down here in this cul-de-sac. we are close to empire and tunis a few blocks away. officers spotted their own missing trailer here. when they began investigating, they found much, much more. ktvu fox 2 news was here last night as investigators began processing the crime scene. it appears the sheriff's office was the victim in this case. their own trailer had been taken. they say the stolen trailer was used for a community farming project providing fresh produce to low income families. investigators tell ktvu fox 2 news when they arrived here at the lot, they found two suspects and gave chase. one of the suspects was armed with a gun. opd used a helicopter to help locate the suspects. deputies say they arrested a man and a woman, one suspect though was reportedly able to escape. a chopper also says one of the suspects threw something into the estuary in the area here last night. now once on the property, they found thousands of dollars of stolen items. including that missing trailer, a refrigerator trailer, skis, and other items. it appears the suspect may have been squatting at this property. living in an rv at the property with no knowledge or permission from the property owner. again, we are hearing deputies will be out here at the scene investigating throughout the day. continuing to catalog the evidence that they find here. and again, continuing the search for the third suspect. in oakland, christien kafton, ktvu fox 2 news. san leandro police are crediting a good samaritan with stopping a kidnapping. it happened on washington avenue. the would be kidnapper jumped out of his car and boldly attacked the 23-year-old woman. he knocked her down, doused her with pepper spray and tried to drag her into his car. >> i think he set out he was going to do something and he was looking for the right victim. and, he found the place to stop and wait for that victim. >> reporter: police say a good samaritan who was driving by jumped out of his car and saved the young woman despite being pepper sprayed. the suspect drove off in a late model nissan four-door sedan with silver spoked wheels and tinted windows. police would like to find him. he is described as an african- american man between 25 and 40 years old. he is about five feet ten. and weighs between 165 and 185 pounds. now to vallejo where an anonymous tip led to investigators finding an elaborate marijuana grow operation. after a four month long investigation. detectives served a search warrant on elk horn court. they found 428 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of more than $40,000. 39-year-old jason johnson of vallejo was booked into the solano county jail on a number of charges related to the cultivation and sale of marijuana. in san francisco, the search for the next police chief continues. but now, the online posting for the job has been taken down. it was removed due to concerns about a lack of detail in the ad. there were some requirements listed like having a minimum of ten years experience, but the ad does not go into detail about the department's recent issues. the police commission has called the posting a first draft and says they are working on a new money. family and friends are remembering a bay area soldier who became sick on his first day of training in training school. 21-year-old michael paris played football and went onto west point. he became ill on monday and died on wednesday. military doctors say he suffered from a condition where sodium levels in the blood are too low which can be caused by drinking too much water. his former high school coach says he was a fantastic young man and a key member of the team who helped them win a high school championship. >> he was quite versal and very useful too. he is like a utility guy. we used him every game. he was an invaluable success to that season. >> paris east family made the trip from walnut creek to be at his bedside. in the south bay, a family is taking action to raise awareness about the need for registered bone marrow donors after their 14-year-old daughter died while waiting for a transplant. >> rob roth has more on the family's effort to make sure what happened to their daughter won't happen to someone else. >> you can save a life. >> reporter: 14-year-old destiny alvarez-torres died last week waiting for a bone marrow transplant because she could not find the proper match. her family doesn't want to see that happen to anyone else. >> i want to make sure everyone knows about this so they don't have to go through what we are going through. >> reporter: destiny would have begun high school this fall. she was a 4.0 student who loved dancing hip hop and playing basketball. >> always smiling. energetic. >> reporter: destiny con plained of stomach plains last september. an antiacid caused a bad reaction. within days her liver failed. her family flew from their home in hawaii to the children's hospital of stanford for a liver transplant. after the transplant, her bone marrow failed and needed a bone marrow transplant. but because she was mixed race, hawaiian, filipino, japanese, and puerto rican, it was hard to find a donor in the donor registry. >> you can find a match, maybe, if she was just hawaiian or just puerto rican. but the moreethnicity groups you have, the less likely the is a match. >> reporter: she spent six months on the waiting list before dying july 20. that is why her family want to raise a match that why more people, especially nonwhites need to register as donorsful it may be too late to save destiny, but it doesn't have to be too late for any other child. >> for anybody on this list, she would have found the match immediately. she probably would be here right now. >> reporter: in palo alto, rob roth, ktvu fox 2 news. the man convicted of killing congressional intern chaundra levy will not be retried. her killer got 60 years in prison but he was granted a new trial last year due to concerns of the credibility of the key witness. levy's disappearance made national headlines in 2001. today, the public is getting its first look at an elementary school in newtown, connecticut. it replaces the school that was the site of one of the worst mass shootings in u.s. history. in 2012, 20 children and six teachers were killed and the school was torn down. the new school was built on the same property. it is due to open next month. after a break, the oakland raiders to back anymore. there is walk through. it is totally different. it is to keep the guys fresh though. and i think you talked about the new generation of the nfl. you are trying to keep your guys as healthy as possible. >> i want to see derek karr and those guys. also the music pumping in. it is a new generation. if you go to a college practice, this is the way of the future. because, it gets the improve on last season's 5-11 record. the giants are acquiring eduardo nunez in the hope of getting some help as they have a 2-10 record. they are struggling since the all-star break. but the giants fell to the washington nationals. the nats scored three runs off of johnny cueto. they scored a run, but lost by a final of 4-2. nunez is expected to join the team tomorrow. he plays mostly shortstop out toward golden gate bridge. and we have a little bit of on shore wind with wins around 10 to 15 miles an hour. current numbers, look at the 90 showing up in livermore. they are on track to reach little bit into the weekend. this guy, this area of high pressure will gradually weaken. so with that, temperatures cooling off a little saturday. then more so into sunday. this weather system moves in from the north increasing the depth of the marine layer. the on shore breeze. sunday will be the coolest day of the weekend. that will translate to just maybe a few low 90s while inland. no more however, officials there are quick to point tout this currently only affects a one square mile area near miami. >> i'm directing the department of health to immediately begin contracting with commercial pest control company to increase spraying and mosquito baiting areas. >> reporter: they say "we anticipate that there may be additional cases of home grown zika in the coming weeks. our top priority is to protect pregnant women from the potentially devastating harm caused by zika.
