Wx timer 40 were learning more about the shooting that wounded a Sioux City Police officer early sunday morning. The department identified thehe officer as an moritz, who was treated and released at a local hospital after the incident. E man police say puld the mothershed, also shot himself during the struggle with moritz. Ktivs michelle from police. As for mothershed. P olice arent releasing his condition at this time. Mothershed is in Police Custody at sioux citys mercy dical center. Hes charged with two counts of attempted murder and five counts of robbery in the first degree. But, he also faces a charge of home invasion. That follows an incident, inside a home in the 26 hundred block of south alice street, in morningside, back on december 7th. Police believe mothershehewas one of three men that broke into the home looking for drugs and money. A 19yearold inside the home was beaten with a crowbar. His mother was held at gunpoint. 21yearold austin cummings, of sioux city, is also charged in the incident. Police have arrested seven other people in connection with robberies in sioux city over the last two weeks. They are 19yearold justin seaberry, 18yearold jordyn delel, 16yearold austst bulizak, 16yeaold Jamaal Ferguson, 17yearold macayla knight, and a 15yearold who has not been charged. Court documents say the robberies began on january 29th when bulizak, Justin Ferguson and Jamaal Ferguson went armed to a home at 3321 pierce street. On february 2nd, documents say bulizak, Justin Ferguson, and seaberry wentnto a resident at c college couou armed with the intent to rob the resident. On february 5th, Jamaal Ferguson, Justin Ferguson, seaberry and bulizak went to a home at 4538 polk street where they planned to break in and steal a gun, according to bulizaks affidavit. On february 6th, police say Jamaal Ferguson, knight, seaberry and bulizak went to 2940 park avenue, building 19, to rob a person of money and personal propertrt investigators say they held the victim on the ground at gunpoint and took his wallet, id card and a nebraska man, whos charged in iowa with killing his wife, with stand trial in september. 28yearold rogelio morales, of hubbard, nebraska, will go to trial for firstdegree murder on september 20th. The trial was originally scheduled for march 15th, but his attorney sought an extension to allow more time to investigate the case and have morales evaluated. Morales is accused of killing 21yearold Margarita Morales, of South Sioux City, on april 19th. Court documents say morales told investigators a fight broke out when his wife told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him. Rogelio morales told police he wrapped his hands around her neck, and his next memory was his wife not breathing. Rescue workers continued to try locate missing persons in the rubble of an earthquake hit apartment blococin tainan, several hours after its collapse. At least four people were rescued on monday from the 17story apartment building. More than 100 people are believed to still be under the debris. Rescue more than 170 people from the folded building using information about the building layout and the possible location of those trtrped. A German News Agency reported that two trains crashed headon in the south of ththcountry early today, leaving at least four people dead and 40 seriously injured. More than three hours after the ash, Emergency Services were still trying to reach people trapped in the wreckage. Tv footage showed emergency helicopters lined up in an area near the crash scene waiting to transport the most severely injured to hospitals. A spokesman for German Federal police in bavaria said that the region was very inaccessible and making rescue efforts more difficult. More than two dozen people were injured when a charter bus flipped onto its side in madison, connecticut. Officials say the bus was heading to the mohegan sun casino when it crashed on snowcovered interstate 95. Which prompted police to shut down the highway. The highway was shut down for more than four hours as crews worked to clear the accident scene. Initially. And 12 more sought medical care after going to a warming center. Four of the injured are in critical condition. Although the snow is melting, sioux city is still working on clean up after last weeks big blizzard. Ktivs tommie clark spoke with Police Officers who have been impounding vehicles that havent moved since the last flake of snow fell. Moved, were impounded. Tow truck. We try to make contact with the owner. We run the plate and find out whats the address and whos the owner. If we cant make contact with the owner, we tow the vehicle, said Sioux City Police officer, eddie thiphasouk. You can tell which vehicles are going to be towed, first because of the mounds of snow still around them and second because of the bright Orange Police tag. And, as if there wasnt enough reason to try and get your car off the roads. People whose cars got towed today its not a simple matter for thth to just go to the towing company and get their car back, said Sioux City Police sgt. Todd sassman. Theres an impound fee with the Police Department and additional charges with meier towing totaling almost 200. Chains clinking. And, tow truck operators feel the pains, too. Weve been going since 8 oclock this morning. Its been chaos. Its going all day, said meier towing operator, travis fink, you do one, you drop it off and then they already ggt 3, 4 others that they already got waiting for us. At least 20 vehicles were towed monday. The total number of tickets given after the blizzard wont be known for several more days. Clark. Ktiv news 4. The Miracle League of sioux city looked to deliver a home run presentation to the sioux city city council. The organization built an inclusive baseball facility for people with disabilities in Riverside Park last year. And now leaders with the Miracle League want to improve it. They plan to build a splash pad this summer, and the group would like the city to contribute financially. The splash pad would cost 197thousand dollars. Theyveaised about 70 thousand for the project. The city council contributed more than 300thousand dollars of the total 1 point 1 million raised for the first phase of the park. Which included the concession area, restrooms, playground and the baseball field. Miracle leagues board president says the splash pad will help bring kids together. Phase two with the splash pad will just be even more integration opportunities between kids in the neighborhood, the Soccer League players and the Miracle League players to be playing together, interacting and learning from one another out on the splash pad, said kevin negaard, sioux city Miracle League. Time to run down the stories making headlines this Tuesday Morning in siouxland. Sioux city Police Release more details about the shooting that wounded an officer early sunday morning. Police say officer ryan moritz was shot by 18 year old isaiah mothershed, who was handcuffed and seated on a couch while officers investigated reports of a robbery. Police say mothershed pulled out a handgun that was hidden inside the couch and shot moritz. During the ensuing struggle, police say mothershed shot himself in his own thigh. Hes now faces two counts of attempted murder and five counts of robbery in the first degree. Sioux city officials have started towing snowbound cars. Owners were given warnings last police started issuing tickets on friday. Yesterday, tow trucks were brought in to get them off the streets and out of the way of snow plows. If your car is towed, itll cost you almost two hundred bucks to get it out of impound. At least 20 cars that had not been moved were towed yesterday. The Miracle League of sioux city wants to add a splash pad to the baseball facility it built for people with disabilities in Riverside Park. A 19yearold inside the home was beaten with a crowbar while his mother was held at gunpoint. 21yearold austin cummings, of sioux city, is also charged in the incident. Police have arrested seven other people in connection with the Robberies Police were investigating when officer moritz was shot. They are 19yearold Justin Ferguson, 20 yearold robert seaberry, 16yearold austin bulizak, 16yearold Jamaal Ferguson, 17yearold macayla knight, and a 15yearold who has not been charged. Court documents say the robberies began on january 29th when bulizak, Justin Ferguson and Jamaal Ferguson went armed to a home at 3321 pierce street. On february 2nd, documents say bulizak, Justin Ferguson, and seaberry went to a resident at C College Court armed with the intent to rob the resident. On friday, Jamaal Ferguson, Justin Ferguson, seaberry and bulizak went to a home at 4538 polk street where they planned to break in and steal a gun, according to bulizaks affidavit. On saturday, police say Jamaal Ferguson, knight, seaberry and bulizak went to 2940 park avenue, building 19, to rob a person of money and personal property. Investigators say they held the victim on the ground at gunpoint and took his wallet, id card and credit card. Iowa with killing his wife, with stand trial in september. 28yearold rogelio morales, of hubbard, nebraska, will go to trial for firstdegree murder on september 20th. The trial was originally scheduled for march 15th, but his attorney sought an extension to allow more time to investigate the case and have morales evaluated. Morales is accused of killing 21yearold Margarita Morales of South Sioux City on april 19th. Court documents say morales told investigators a fight broke out when his wife told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him. Rogelio morales told police he wrapped his hands around her neck, and his next memory was his wife not breathing. Rescue workers continued to try and locate missing persons in the rubble of an earthquake hit apartment block in tainan, taiwan several hours after its collapse. At least four people were rescued on monday from the 17story apartment building. More than 100 people are believed to still be under the debris. Rescue more than 170 people from the folded building using information about the building layout and the possible location of those trapped. A German News Agency reported that two trains crashed headon in the south of the country early today, leaving at least four people dead and 40 seriously injured. More than three hours after the crash, Emergency Services were still trying to reach people trapped in the wreckage. Tv footage showed emergency helicopters lined up in an area near the crash scene waiting to transport the most severely injured to hospitals.
