spencer iowa died on saturday night after collapsing at the tigers' home wrestling invitational. austin roberts, a senior at spencer high school, collapsed while competing in the championship match in the 220-pound weight division. roberts was taken to spencer hospital, where officials say he died on saturday night. the close-knit community of spencer is mourning the loss of austin roberts, but they're not doing it alone. ktiv's tommie clark has the story. community hospital, where he died. "here at spencer high school, the front steps are already filling up with flowers and balloons all for austin roberts. this close-knit community is now coming together to mourn." "this morning there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs and those type of things, but there were also some laughs talking about stories about austin. austin was a student that was a student bigger than life in many ways," said spencer community schools superintendent, terry hemann. while students awaited the news of austin's condition, they called a local church for help. sacred heart stepped up. "plus adults, counselors from the school, mr. hemann the superintendent, the wrestling coaches. i mean everyone was here just kind of giving eachother support," said sacred heart catholic church pastor, father bill schreiber. and that support continued sunday morning - despite the pain... "over the holidays when people they have more free time or they have family in town people feel like let's show off our museum. maybe you've been to the musem before and you feel like oh i've seen it, but this is just a fun way to go through again," said sioux city public museum curator of education, theresa weaver-basye. the museum will close at 4 p-m on christmas eve and reopen the day after christmas. some little shoppers hit the aisles of walmart on saturday for the annual "shop with a cop" outing. ktiv's tommie clark tagged along and has more on the special the aisles of walmart were packed saturday...but, they weren't your average shoppers...they were kids. both sioux city police and woodbury county sheriff's department officers took the kids out for their annual "shop with a cop" outing. "we then pair up with one of the children and we walk them around the store and give them an opportunity, each child gets to spend $100 and they buy gifts for their family members," said sioux city police department crime prevention officer, chad sheehan. 30 kids from around the community paired up with a shopping buddy from the force and hit the aisles of walmart. "once inside these doors behind me, siouxland officers and kids started their christmas shopping." 8-year-old keyana skelton was one of those kids picked to participate. "i was really excited," said 8- year-old "shop with a cop" shopper, keyana skelton. her late grandfather was a police officer. "it was definitely a thrill the fact that she was chosen to go so it kind of hits home a little bit," said keyana skelton's shopping buddy was officer brooke davies-- who's participated in the event three years now and says it's worth every minute. "just watching the kids get excited about buying gifts to give to other people it helps give them excitement around the holidays," said sioux city police officer, brooke davies. and skelton says it all comes down to her family. "because i get to get it for my friends and my family," said 8- year-old shopper, keyana skelton. officers say they're happy they got to make a difference for each of those kid's christmas this year. in sioux city...tommie clark...ktiv news 4. >> and at the end of the "shop with a cop" outing, each of the 30 kids got a new bike and helmet. the bikes and helmets were donated by the variety club. the walmart on singing hills also held "shop with a cop" for ten local kids earlier in the day. police officers say it's just another way to reach out to people in the community and let them know the police force is there for them. while on the "shop with a cop" outing we learned what some of the most popular toys have been this holiday season. with the big star wars movie opening this weekend, walmart workers say it's no surprise how popular their star wars themed toys have been. season? ...shopkins dolls. staff say the dolls have been flying off the shelves. here are the stories making top headlines this monday morning in siouxland. the community of spencer, iowa is coming together to deal with tragedy. high school senior austin roberts collapsed while competing in a wrestling match on saturday and later died at the spencer hospital. counselors were on hand at spencer high school on sunday to help a stunned community deal with grief. hundreds of students and staff came together. superintendent terry hemann says austin was bigger than life in many ways and a good kid. a crisis team will be on hand today and tomorrow before christmas break begins on wednesday. cops and kids team up to go christmas shopping. at the two sioux city walmart stores, 40 children were partnered with officers from the city's police department and woodbury county sheriffs office to buy gifts for their families and friends. the annual "shop with a cop" outing has been walmart donated one- hundred dollars per child to make it happen. each child also got a bicycle and helmet donated by the variety club. fresh off saturday night's democratic debate, bernie sanders brings his presidential campaign back to siouxland tonight. the vermont senator will speak "over the holidays when people they have more free time or they have family in town people feel like let's show off our museum. maybe you've been to the musem before and you feel like oh i've seen it, but this is just a fun way to go through again," said of education, theresa weaver-basye. the museum will close at 4 p-m on christmas eve and reopen the day after christmas. some little shoppers hit the aisles of walmart on saturday for the annual "shop ktiv's tommie clark tagged along and has more on the special event. the aisles of walmart were weren't your average sioux city police and woodbury county sheriff's department outing. "we then pair up with one of the children and we walk them around the store and give them an opportunity, each child gets to spend $100 and they buy gifts for their family members," said sioux city police department crime prevention officer, chad sheehan. 30 kids from around the community paired up with a shopping buddy from the fofoe and hit the aisles of walmart. "once inside these doors behind me, siouxland officers and kids started their christmas shopping." 8-year-old keyana skelton was one of those kids picked to participate. "i was really excited," said 8- year-old "shop with a cop" shopper, keyana skelton. her late grandfather was a police officer. "it was definitely a thrill the fact that she was chosen to go so it kind of hits home a little bit," said keyana skelton's mother, dawn skelton. skelton's shopping buddy was officer brooke davies-- who's participated in the event three years now and says it's worth every minute. "just watching the kids get excited about buying gifts to give to other people it helps give them excitement around the holidays," said sioux city police officer, brooke davies. and skelton says it all comes down to her family.
