"the yield of ice meth our lab results indicate around 97-98 percent pure meth compared to the home based meth labs are anywhere from 45-60 percent..so the yield is much higher." and they've been working hard to get it off iowa's streets.. "in the last probably 4 years since the ice meth has been on the rise, we've seized probably 60-70 pounds of ice meth for the value to 3-4 million dollars." meth trafficking is a big problem to take on , considering the amount of meth labs here in iowa have decreased in recent years. "it's a major problem esp because of the money thats involved with the transportatio n, the sale distribution of meth and also more than likely we see weapons involved with the seizure of this cash and drugs." so now senator chuck grassley wants to help..he wants to keep this form of meth in mexico and ultimately out of iowa. see what kinda impact he can start bringing to the legislature..and to see things about mamabe the different effects with the meth problem across the border because it's gotten so large. >> that was lauren moss reporting. senator grassley discuss the issue with a panel of government, law enforcement and addiction treatment officials in iowa. an iowa teen now charged with his grandmother' s murder wenenon a rampage at a convenience store in d d moines saturday night. surveillance video shows 17-year old noah laprei fighting his way into the store. employees tried to calm the teen who was carrying a bible. he ran through the store knocking things over and pushing a shelf over. customers ended up tackling him outside the store, holding him until police arrived on the scene. family members believe drugs are to blame for the crimes. police plan to charge lapray as an adult for the murder of his 79-year-old grandmother. a nebraska man has been convicted after a car- accident killed his best friend. last october, justin hogan was driving under the influence when his vehicle rolled over. the accident killed his best friend, 21-year old chase miller and injured three other passengers. yesterday, a judge sentenced 23-year-old hogan to 180 days in jail and three years of probation. he also has to do 200 hours of community service and pay fines. before the judge read the e sentence, hogan apologized to the miller family. authorities are investigating a fire at a business in ida grove, iowa. it broke out yesterday morning at midwest industries in the paint department's powder coating linene firefighters froida grove, arthur, battle creek and hostein responded to the scene. they quickly got the flames under control. a company official says the building was damaged in the fire, but the extent isn't known yet. crews have already started pairs on the busineses and here's a closer view of the fire that left a family homeless in terril, iowa. a viewer sent us this video through the social media site, twitter. a family of six lived in the home, five were home when the fire broke out. they all made it out safely, along with their dog. authorities say the fire started in the garage, but they're still investigating what sparked it. a firefighter's helmet cam captures the moment an explosion rocks a rock quauay in oklahoma. a fuel tank exploded at the tulsa quarry monday, as firefighters battled a fire. captain don boyle's helmet cam captured the explosion. three firefighters and a quarry worker were hurt- their r juries are not life-threatening. it's been a tough 2 months for a northwest iowa chiropractor who has been recovering from a bad motorcycle accident. family members of dr. arden keune say he's getting stronger by the day, but they have e ng road ahead of thehe and community is backing them every step of the way. ktiv's sam curtiss has the story. a rehabilitation center in lincoln, nebraska. "he is starting to talk more," said kenzie keune. "he is starting to stay awake longer throughout the day." on august 3rd, a suv eluding police barralled into keune's motorcycle in sturgis, south dakota. news that quickly ripped through the sioux rapids, iowa, chiropractor' s community. "devastating," said slider gilmore. "there's been a lot of tears in our community." but those tears have now turned to arms. arms willing to help the man slider gilmore calls a dear friend. gilmore was in sturgis when the accident happened. "he id not regaiiconcious while we were there," said gilmore. but as you can see, keune is up. not quite able to walk yet, something he'll have to relearn. meanwhile, his daughter kenzie churns along in her senior year at sioux central community school. a place that's become her second home. "i have been overwhlemed with love, joy and support within my community," said keune. her volleyballlcoach says kenziees sharr tears with the team. one of the many activities she's involved in that her dad asks about. but she sa that's not all he asks about. "he misses seeing his patients and how much his patients really mean to him," said keune. but dr. keune meant a lot to others too. his accident brought a fellow chiropractor out of retirement to work with dr. keune's atients until comes back home. "him doing thihi for our family just means so much," said keune. "it's going to be a long road to recovery but with all of the support, and optimistic guy that he is, i think that he will get back home." >> the community is holding a fundraiser for dr. keune. it's on sunday from 8 a.m. until 1 1 m. at the sioux rapids fire station. if you have an item for the auction to donate, you can just drop it off at the fire department. several businesses in the united center in downtown sioux city joined forceseso raise money for the united way of siouxland. and, they had fun doing it. they got a little egg on their face with a "tonight show with jimmy fallon" style game of egg roulette. the event also featuring a chili feed and mini-i-ympics which raised more than a thousand dollars. sioux city kids tried their hands at playing the percussion indonesian assemble called the gamelan. made up of gongs, drums, bonang, and xylaphone-like instruments, the gamelan is about the group playing together, not individual musicians. the instruments are housed in the national music museum in vermillion, south dakota and this is the first time they have been played outside of the museum. the students say it was a fun way to learn about other cultures through music. "there are lots and lots different percussion instruments other than just the ones that we use here in the united states, there's tons around the world and they're all very different," says noah youngberg, a west high sophomore. "once the steel is brought in, cut, and welded together, it can be brought here to the building behind me to ecome what are callee'modules'," said breen. like slices of bread in a loaf, these modules are lined up aboard the ship. living quarters, weapons systems an a hangar big enough for a helicopter. "this is what the lcs looks like when it's done, and in the water." said breen. "this is the lcs-5, it is the milawukee. the commander of the u.s.s. sioux city, which is still under construction, says he can't wait to step on to his own ship." "this is gonna be a special platform," said cmdr kevin ralston. "it's a major problem esp because of the money thats involved with the transportatio n, the sale distribution of meth and also more than likely we see weapons involved with the seizure of this cash and drugs." so now senator chuck grassley wants to help..he wants to keep this form of meth in mexico and ultimately out of iowa. see what kinda impact he can start bringing to the legislature..and to see things about maybe the different effects with the meth problem across the border because it's gotten so large. >> that was lauren moss reporting. senator grassley discussed the issue with a panel of government, law enforcement and addiction treatment officials in iowa. an iowa teen now charged with his grandmother' s murder went on a rampage at a convenience store in des moines shortly after the killing saturday night. surveillance video shows 17-year old noah laprei fighting his way into the store. employees tried to calm the teen who was carrying a bible. he ran through the store knocking things over and pushing a shelf over. customers ended up tackling him outside the store, holding him until police arrived on the scene. family members believe drugs are to blame for the crimes. police plan to charge lapray as an adult for the murder of his 79-year-old grandmother. a northeast nebraska man has after a car-accident killed his best friend. last october, 23-year old justin hogan was driving drunk when his vehicle rolled over near emerson, killing 21-year old chase miller and injuring three other passengers. a judge sentenced hogan to 180 days in jail and three years probation. he also has to perform 200 hours of community service. authorities are investigating a fire at a business in ida grove, iowa. it broke out yesterday morning at midwest industries in the paint department's powder coating line. firefighters from ida grove, arthur, battle creek and hostein responded to the scene. they quickly got the flames under control. a company official says the building was damaged in the fire, but the extent isn't known yet. crews have already started repairs on the business. and here's a closer view of the fire that left a family homeless in terril, iowa. a viewer sent us this video through the social media site, twitter. a family of six lived in the home, five were home when the fire broke out. they all made it out safely, along with their dog. authorities say the fire started in the garage, but they're still investigating what sparked it. a firefighter's helmet cam captures the moment an explosion rocks a rock quarry in oklahoma. a fuel tank exploded at the tulsa quarry monday, as firefighters battled a fire. captain don boyle's helmet cam captured the explosion. three firefighters and a quarry worker were hurt- their injuries are not life-threatening. it's been a tough 2 months for a northwest iowa chiropractor who has been recovering from a bad motorcycle accident. family members of dr. arden keune say he's getting stronger by the day, but they have a long road ahead of them. and they say their sioux rapids community is backing them every step of the way. ktiv's sam curtiss has the story. day." on august 3rd, a suv eluding police barralled into keune's motorcycle in sturgis, south dakota. news that quickly ripped through the sioux rapids, iowa, chiropractor' s community. "devastating," said slider gilmore. "there's been a lot of tears in our community." but those tears have now turned to arms. arms willing to help the man slider gilmore calls a dear friend. gilmore was in sturgis when the accident happened. "he did not regain concious while we were there," said gilmore. but as you can see, keune is up. not quite able to walk yet, something he'll have to relearn. meanwhile, his daughter kenzie churns along in her senior year at sioux central community school. a place that's become her second home. "i have been overwhlemed with love, joy and support within my community," said keune. her volleyball coach says kenzie's shared tears with the team. one of the many activities she's involved in that her dad asks about. but she says that's not all he asks about. "he misses seeing his patients and how much his patients really mean to him," said keune. but dr. keune meant a lot to others too. his accident brought a fellow chiropractor out of retirement to work with dr. keune's patients until he comes back home. "him doing this for our family just means so much," said keune. "it's going to be a long road to recovery but with all of the support, and optimistic guy that he is, i think that he will get back home." >> the community is holding a fundraiser for dr. keune. it's on sunday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the sioux rapids fire station. if you have an item for the auction to donate, you can just drop it off at the fire department. several businesses in the united center in downtown sioux city joined forces to raise money for the united way of siouxland. and, they had fun doing it. they got a little egg on their face with a "tonight show with jimmy fallon" style game of egg roulette. the event also featuring a chili feed and mini-olympics which raised more than a thousand dollars. sioux city kids tried their hands at playing the percussion indonesian assemble called the gamelan. made up of gongs, drums, bonang, and xylaphone-like instruments, the gamelan is about the group playing together, not individual musicians. the instruments are housed in the national music museum in vermillion, south dakota and this is the first time they have been played outside of the museum. the students say it was a fun way to learn about other cultures through music. "there are lots and lots different percussion instruments other than just the ones that we use here in the united states, there's tons around the world and they're all very different," says noah youngberg, a west high sophomore. "she's got a great snap and follow through on her swing," said pottebaum. ali verzani's mechanics make her one of siouxland's most feared hitters. but it wasn't always that way. "my freshman year i was a setter," said verzani. "my sophomore year i was in the middle, the right side. now i'm on the outside, so we've gone through a lot of different changes to get where we are now." "i wanted to make sure we were getting her more sets because i knew we'd have some good productivity out of her on the outside," said pottebaum. that tweak was all she needed. verzani had 323 kills her first two years of varsity volleyball. last year, she had 374. this season, already 307. and last thursday against rival woodbury central, verzani became the first lawton- bronson volleyball player to record one- thousand career kills. "he called a timeout and it was announced and everyone was clapping, even on the woodbury central side, so it was really cool," said verzani. "it was extremely gratifying to see her get that accomplishme nt. she's worked hard. she's very coachable. she's put in the time," said pottebaum. "it's really cool to think that i'll be remembered and the little kids who know me now, when they get older, they'll want to beat that record," said verzani. lawton-bronson is 27-2 and ranked 14th in class 2a. the only thing missing is a state tournament trip. "our school's never made it to state in volleyball, so it would be a first for us," said verzani. "we've got a tough road, but i believe we can do it. we have to serve tough, we just have to pass. if we can pass, we have the hitters to put it down." and she may be the leader but it takes a village. "i think they don't want the government collecting all their phone records, they do believe in the right to privacy. they don't want the government putting them or their friends in jail for minor marijuana abuse and they don't want the government sending them off to a new war in the middle east. i'm the one candidate who represents all three of those issues," said after finishing in sioux city, paul went on to speak at buena vista in storm lake. the latest fox news poll shows paul in 8th place with 3 percent support. the campaining didn't stop there. a former top government official came to sioux city wednesday, campaigning for hillary clinton in her bid for president. ktiv's brianna clark is live in the newsroom with that story. brianna? good morning al and sarah. former secretary of state madeleine albright campaigned on clinton's behalf yesterday morning in sioux city. she spoke at a "women for hillary" event at the peirce mansion. albright says clinton is committed to fighting for women and families. she says clinton's work to ella-vate gender equality is a key part in advancing women's economic empowerment. "she works very very hard and is really smart," says former secretary of state madeleine albright. "she is going to roll up here sleeves and do it. so, i think that she is the very best candidate, not only now, but anybody that i've seen in terms of running for president." about 75 people showed up to support hillary clinton's run for the white house. "it's exciting to be here," says gail dooley, a democrat from sioux city. "i love love love iowa in the political season. the up-close and personal aspect of politics in iowa is unmatched and i'm just so proud that i can participate in this process." after her sioux city visit, albright was set to continue her clinton campaigning in council and west des moines. thanks brianna. this morning, republican fiorina will be talking with students at spirit lake high school. then she'll take part in a town hall meeting at the clay county fair grounds in spencer starting at 10:30. for the past year-and-a- half workers have been busy at a shipyard in wisconsin working on the uss sioux city. ktiv's matt breen got a rare hand... and to see the u.s.s. sioux city up close. we're going to find special things that this ship is capable of doing." before leaving port, the sioux city, and the others in the lcs line, will already have an advantage... they can sail in shallower waters than most navy ships, and are among the fastest. "here on the bridge, they can control the command of the ship, the engineering, but most importantly is the navigation," said breen. the u.s.s. sioux city's navigator, lt. ida quigley, says think of an lcs like a jet ski. "there are no propellers, no ruddders in that sense," said lt. ida quigley, u.s. navy. "it's all water jet propulsion." at lt. quigley's station on the bridge are two "combinators". they control the direction, and speed, of the water pushing the ship forward. "here you're using this to laterally move the ship, " lt. quigley said. "so, it can literally walk off the pier by using the different thrusters." for now, quigley, and ralston, train aboard the milwaukee, which is virtually identical to the sioux city. but, both anticipate the day their crew can serve the navy on the high seas aboard the u.s.s. sioux city... with an entire city supporting them.
