the boy was kidnapped while sleeping inside of a car in front of his parents' home prompting an amber alert. lisa chan is live in fairfield where officers believe the suspect may have been trying to steal the car. lisa. >> reporter: that's right. police say that was a crime of opportunity because the car was running. but the outcome is the best that they could have hoped for. this happy family was reunited a few hours ago. >> it was amazing. i was overjoyed with goosebumps and i wanted to squeeze him. >> reporter: it started as a typical day for suzanne guzman. her husband put their 8-year- old son in their car to take him in school to napa before heading to work. he started the car to warm it up and went back in the house. 30 seconds later when she walked outside the car was gone. >> just didn't know what to think. i was like, wait, my car is not there. is it somewhere else? and i am like, the car is not there. >> reporter: someone took the car and drove off with brock in the back seat. police immediately put out an amber alert with details of the car and brock. >> there are a lot of crazy bad people out there. and i am very, very thankful for my friends and family who immediately jumped on facebook and all social media and all the phone calls and everything and they got it out there. >> reporter: a bike was found on the sidewalk in front of the guzman's home. luckily, about four hours after the car was taken a fairfield resident spotted it on a residential treat two miles from the guzman's house and called the authorities. >> don't leave your vehicles running warming up in the driveway. it's an opportunity for somebody to take it. >> reporter: police say no one was in the car -- except for brock. he was asleep in the back seat. he said he was never scared. >> he woke up and the guy said i didn't know you were in the car and pulled over and got out and walked away. >> reporter: the guzmans couldn't be more grateful. >> i got my son back. that's all i care about. >> i don't think i said anything. i think i just grand him and pulled him onto my lap. >> reporter: the guzmans say they plan to spend the day today together in bed watching movies. police don't have any information on a suspect, but they are reviewing surveillance video given to them by neighbors. in fairfield, lisa chan, kpix 5. >> parents say this is a learning experience for them and they will never leave their car running with their child inside again. family of a local radio host has set up a gofundme account to pay for funeral expenses. wesley burton was hit in a fatal hit-and-run crash in oakland. burton co-hosted two music shows on the public radio station after hours and sideshow radio. so far the gofundme account has raised $17,000. a man will be arraigned in washington, d.c. after allegedly scaling a white house fence. jerome hunter faces a charge of unlawful entry. secret service officers arrested him last night. they say hunter climbed the fence on the south side of the white house grounds. today as many as 10,000 people could turn out at hippie hill to get high in public. it's part of the annual 4/20 celebration involving marijuana users across the country. and it's a day when police generally allow pot smoking since there are too many people to ticket. but there are costs. last year the city spent $100,000 to clean up. >> we never know what to expect. we just prepare for a large crowd. >> you can expect crowded sidewalks and long lines at nearby stores. organizers are asking people not to bring glass bottles and pick up their trash. more than 100 -- a 5k course that started at the ferry building. it was to show solidarity of the boston marathon and honor those affected by the attack at the finish line some two years ago. that attack killed three and injured more than 260 back in 2013. tomorrow begins the penalty phase for the convicted boston bomber dzhokar tsarnaev. as for today the boston marathon turned 119 years old. it is the world's oldest annual marathon. estimated 30,000 runners braving a soggy 26 plus mile trek. about a million people have lined the route to watch. security was very tight. police have added cameras and checkpoints and drones have been banned from that course. back home the san jose sharks did some housecleaning today. pink slipping their head coach and two assistants. tom mcclellan got the hundreds of defendants in dozens of states, including california, their convictions involved flawed expert testimony. kiet do tess us the fbi admits nearly every examiner in an elite fbi forensic unit overstated evidence in a period spanning two decades. >> reporter: this affects five cases in california. three inmates are right now sitting on death row. the fbi has been using this hair comparison technique using a microscope and only their eyes to compare samples of hair taken from crime scenes. the samples taken from departments. the agency says this method is flawed and hundreds of people may have been broncly convict -- wrongly convict the. >> cleveland wright spent almost half his life in prison. he was convict ford a 1979 murder. the case was based on flawed fbi hair analysis. >> i didn't know too much about law when i got arrested and locked up. but i just knew i was innocent. >> reporter: a new report by the innocence project and national association of criminal defense lawyers found from the 1970s through 1999, 25 of 29 fbi forensic examiners had errors in their testimony impacting 257 cases. the report also found that of the 18 people executed, 12 of them had errors in their cases either in the testimony or lab reports. >> the fbi and doj has to redouble their efforts to get the transcripts of the hundreds and hundreds of cases of people where fbi agents gave exaggerated testimony. >> reporter: before dna testing the fbi relied on visual analysis of evidence. but forensics expert larry kabonski says it was not based on scientific fact. >> they are very sharp and very trustworthy think. it doesn't mean that their expeer men station -- experimentation was done properly. >> reporter: there could be widespread implications because the fbi has trained hundreds of examiners in counties and states all across the country. in santa clara, kiet do. two people lee -- remain missing. they were among four people left bodega bay friday morning on a fishing trip. their damaged boat was found the next day at tom ales point. the sheriff's department identifies them as diane kelly and 59-year-old richard hargraves jr. of santa rosa. search for the two missing people has been suspended. still unclear what may have caused the accident. the coast guard says it never received a distress signal. european leaders are promising to do more to stop migrants from dying in the mediterranean. authorities say as many as 900 people may have died after a both sank off the coast of libya over the weekend. thousands make the risky journey every month to locate all of those. sop of those are administrative in nature. and we will provide those records as we find them. >> bates is a 73-year-old retired insurance executive. he is charged with second degree manslaughter of a man who ran from police during a gun sting operation. bates says he mistakingly fired a handgun instead of his taser. a bill facing a hearing in sacramento today could force ridesharing companies to follow strict privacy rules. it would prohibit the companies from requesting or disclosing personal information except to complete consumer initiated transactions. it comes following a string of privacy complaints were uber customers. some of the incidents allege uber posts personal information of customers on a public website. the matter red cross unveiled a brand new facility today. it's partnered with dell. it allows the red cross to monitor social media before and during disasters. a spokesperson says this new practice allows the red cross to anticipate the southerly direction, that's where we will see that chance of rain return right here to the bay area. so let's go through our futurecast. you notice that clouds are going to hang tight to the coast all day long, and then when it tries to retreat it just pushes back onshore. a couple wayward scattered showers near the mount st. helene a area. we will have to hold off for the chance of rain showers on tuesday. anything we see right now doesn't look like it will materialize into anything as far as measurement is concerned with our precipitation. around the state today into the 80s and throughout the central valley a chance of a thunderstorm in the high sierra and the yosemite area. 62 degrees in monterey bay. if you suffer from allergies, the grass count is now increasing. grasses usually we going to be a lot of rind there. the juice won't be there. want to make sure it's heavy, free from any cracking whatsoever. when you bring them home store them in a cool, dry place. do not store in the refrigerator whole unless your refrigerator is really big. but the unused portion you want to make sure it's refrigerated. and always thump it. if it feels hollow, sounds hollow, good chance it's goes online and figure out what the issue is and teaches me a thing two. >> reporter: his story goes back to cambodia. it shows a little boy on a trip that would change his life. his parents had very little moneying, but they saved every penny to take their children back to their homeland. these were the pictures that stuck in that little boy's mind. . >> i was shocked. >> reporter: he began to understand the history in his bones. his parents met in a refugee camp escaping the killing fields. >> just the emotion that they feel, that they are trying to hide, it's so strong that i feel it. >> reporter: his parents lost an unclele, an aunt, a father, brother, cousin. his parents' great hope was their children. >> i want to show my parents gratitude for what they were able to do for me. i see that ultimate way of showing gratitude is to excel in education. >> reporter: last year his parents got to watch him graduate from stanford university. >> when they made that decision to come here i think they were waiting for a moment like had to happen. >> reporter: your graduation? >> you know, i was glad that i could do that. >> reporter: students rising above helped him get to that point. one person in particular, his mentor bob morse. and this year at the sra gala sumat got to thank bob and honor him as the volunteer of the year. >> for first generation student like me, it was great being able to talk to someone who is like a father figure and getting advice from someone who understands this culture. it is really special. >> you can share your screen. >> reporter: back at work,
