[ laughter ] >> 6:04. taking a look at our live weather camera, it's friday! we just made it! december 2, looking towards the bay waters, which have a little bit of a ripple there this morning. we'll have a small craft advisory in place and outside the gate a gale warning in effect 20 to 60 nautical miles out. otherwise, we have some gusty surface winds this morning out of the north that's mixing up the atmosphere so therefore it's not as chilly as it was just 24 hours ago. but nonetheless, we have now dipped down to 38 degrees in santa rosa. high 40s in livermore. 50s in san francisco. and due east across the bay bridge into oakland. all right, let's take a look at wind speeds now 28 at sfo. 23 in san francisco. lighter winds in oakland but once you hit the bay bridge and you're traveling due west you're going to have a head wind. meanwhile, we have 12-mile-per- hour winds in novato, slighter winds in the pleasanton and livermore areas. 16 san ramon. 20 fairfield. you get the feel here. it's blustery and we are going to see the winds blow during the afternoon. north 10 to 20 with an occasional stronger gust. temperature-wise, pretty much where we should be for this time of the year a little over 60. san jose just one degree shy of average high. 63 in oakland through grizzly peak. 50s and 60s at the beaches today through moss and montara beaches. 60 in los altos. also in san jose. into the beautiful neighborhood of willow glen. then we whip around to the eastern portion of our bay area. with the afternoon breeze, 50s and 60s. by the way, livermore today will be your 8th consecutive day of not reaching 60 degrees. wow! cool day. okay. north bay numbers from 58 and blustery winds in stinson beach. all the way to 61 degrees in petaluma. napa, sonoma, glen ellen, all low 60s. and we have lots of sunshine in the far reaches of the north bay but you're going to see the increasing clouds first. we'll talk about the day when to expect that and the cooler weather that's coming up at, what, 18 after the hour. >> we'll be here. thanks, roberta. a vigil today to mark a year since the deadly police shooting in san francisco that prompted big changes. last december police shot mario woods shortly after woods allegedly stabbed someone. the san francisco city attorney's office says officers were justified when they opened fire. but video of the incident sparked protests. that led to the departure of greg suhr as well as proposed changes in the department's "use of force" policy. today's vigil at 3:30 at martin luther king, jr. park. that vigil comes as vote looms over a proposed memorial at the site of another controversial police shooting. alex nieto was shot and killed in san francisco's bernal heights park nearly two years ago. the 28-year-old was carrying a taser in preparation for his job as a security guard at a nightclub. the proposal to install a memorial at the site will be voted on, on december 13 by the board of supervisors. some environmentalists are aren't pleased with the long- term water conservation plan just released by state officials. under the proposal, water use limits would be customized for urban areas. but critics say it's not fair that while farmers use 80% of the water consumed by people, they are not facing significant slashes in allotment. california's $47 billion agricultural industry grows nearly half of the fruits, nuts and vegetables produced in the u.s. one of the bay area's sweetest transit traditions will soon be under way. >> you will get an idea of what we mean by that when you see this. the caltrans holiday train begins its bright journey from station to station this weekend. >> kpix 5's anne makovec is live in san francisco. [ laughter ] good question. let's look at the south bay. the only problem in the south bay is a 14-minute drive on northbound 101. otherwise looking good. san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city, that will take you 17 minutes between 880 and 101 and then a look at the nimitz freeway live on 880 northbound between -- from 238 in san leandro to the maze, a quick 16 minutes. over to the altamont pass, traffic coming out of tracy that's 205 to the altamont pass, you're moving at 24 miles an hour. and then speeds pick up to 33 miles per hour once you hit north flynn road. also keep in mind there's a high wind advisory across the altamont pass so keep both hands on the wheel and give yourself space between cars. the altamont pass to 680 will take you 16 minutes. now let's talk about mass transit. as we have all morning long, bart is still recovering from a ten-minute delay on richmond lines if you are heading to richmond, fremont or millbrae. and then ace train the vta shuttles this afternoon, that serve -- the buses that serve the vta shuttles will be running 15 minutes earlier due to the pac-12 championship game at levi's stadium. so if that's part of your commute, you will want to keep that in mind. make sure you schedule accordingly. otherwise, ace trains 3 and 5 no delay. muni and caltrain on time, as well. roberta? >> so how's that bus doing, roqui, on the roads, the one i threw brian under? >> well, right now, it's stalled. [ laughter ] >> this is a beautiful view this morning from the transamerica pyramid. we're looking due east a good 45 miles inland towards mount diablo. you can see it in the distance here. at the top of it it's 39 degrees and the winds are up to 13 miles per hour. we have gustier winds at the surface. now san francisco winds have been up to 19 miles per hour. 53 degrees. and because there's a breezy condition this morning, not quite as chilly as it was just 4 hours ago but santa rosa has now dipped to 38 degrees. the winds are lighter. 16 mountain view, 28 sfo, 10 across the bay in hayward. 23 miles per hour winds in san francisco. these are wind speeds right now looks like northerly at 16 in the concord, clayton and walnut creek area bested by fairfield at 20. vallejo, benicia, martinez. all north-northeast winds, that's offshore 14 miles per hour. stratus offshore is associated with an area of low pressure well to the north of the bay area taking the course of a very vigorous jet stream that's just banking off the huge dome dom about here. but when you see these red lines here that's a reflection of our wind particle map so it gives you a good indication of the direction of the winds, coming from the north. when you see the lines tightly together, that's more of a pressure gradient between the low and the high and when you get that tight squeeze, that's when we pick up those winds. travel weather across the state today, 50s in throughout the central valley. 57 degrees along the seashore from big sur through pebble beach. 60 ukiah. we head to the mountains 31 degrees afternoon high and the high sierra. we are working a really good base up to 4 feet in the squaw valley area. saturday and sunday begins to warm gently in the mountains, but be mindful of your weather forecast. snow is a possibility late sunday into monday for your trek back home. always carry the chains. 7:08 is your sunrise and it looks like today's temperatures maybe a degree warmer than yesterday but not approaching 60 in livermore for the 8th consecutive day under 60 degrees there. the warmest day of the week approaching 70 inland but then cooling off due to a cold front on monday through thursday with highs only in the 50s. that's a look at your friday forecast. don't go away. we'll be right back. ,,,,,, - hi, it's me. [ laughter ] there's more devastating drinks news this morning. big jolt of coffee enthusiasts everywhere. the big boss at starbucks is stepping down. that kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks has more. >> reporter: you can't blame starbucks shareholders if they are nervous this morning after starbucks founder and ceo howard schultz says he is stepping down as ceo just focusing on being chairman. long-time executive kevin johnson will take over schultz' role. it's not the first time he stepped down. back in 2000 he pulled back from the business and the company's stock plunged after that. eventually it recovered but then again craters in 2008 during the financial crisis. schultz came back and starbucks stock soared higher going from $5 to $57 right now. the stock is down a little this morning. there's some decent news on the job market. the labor department says we had a gain of 178,000 jobs in november. pretty much in line what economists were expecting to see. now, they were not expecting to see the unemployment rate drop to 4.6%. that's a nine-year low. it's not all good news. fewer people are looking for work that led to the decline. hourly wages down from the prior month. stock market is off to a mixed start this morning but this time it's the other way. blue chips down, dow down 27 right now. the nasdaq is up 10. s&p higher by 2. two tech companies to watch today pandora and ebay each of them are surging higher in the early going. brian and michelle, back to you. jason brooks from kcbs radio, thank you. the man arrested in the murder of a city worker will make his court appearance today. michael his inboat thom will face a judge this afternoon. he was arrested in vallejo in connection to the shooting death of jermaine jackson. three father of two whats doing his job painting graffiti after the 25th and vermont streets in san francisco. jag son's aunt said he was devastated. >> we thought it made it out of this mess. >> jackson was an apprentice with the department of public works since 2015. he was expected to graduate from the program next year. 12 minutes before 7:00 on this friday. it's time for a bent metal update. here's roqui. >> you and these intros. i love it. thank you, brian. it's now 6:48. let's head to the richmond/san rafael toll plaza where traffic is slow but across the span, to the west end there, right before the west end, westbound 580 before the west end, two- car crash and this is blocking the left lane. also having debris in the road, as well. crews are trying to clear it out for you but as you can see in that area traffic is at just 15 miles per hour. let's head now to the south bay in the santa clara-san jose area. it's northbound 101 before trimble road. it's a big rig and four cars blocking the two left lanes. crews are out there trying to clear it out. but as you can see, traffic moving at 17 miles per hour. so that's definitely going to cause delays on northbound one into san mateo. from the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city, you will have a slow commute of 22 to 25 minutes between 880 and 101 and then a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, you have a high wind advisory still in effect across the span there so make sure you drive slowly. the maze to downtown 24 minutes. >> i was working feverishly. i was trying to pull up a picture from the live weather camera at the observatory atop mauna loa. that's on the big island of hawaii where it's currently 30 degrees and snowing. it's snowing on the big island right now!
