One greedy family found a way to split the system. Reporter they say the demayos have been evicting low paying tenants and replacing them with homeless vets who will be living in his car. The army vet gets a housing voucher from the va which pays full market rent. He is thankful but feels bad for the evicted families. Totally wrong. I mean, i think that, um, it should be more reviewed. It should be more looked into because these families are getting booted because of veterans. Thats wrong, too,. We are calling upon the city council act on april 18 to vote for a just cause evictions protection and to vote for a strong ellis act amendment. Back in 2015 they fatally shot 20yearold amilcar amilcar perezlopez six times in the back. Police got a call about a man with a knife chasing a man on folsom street. Undercover officers tiffe and reboli responded saying perez lopez was trying to steal a mans bike. The d. A. s Office Released this threedimensional forensic animation to show what they believe happened next. They say evidence shows that perezlopez turned to the officers with his knife and that they fired to protect themselves. And the other man. But many people question why the shots were fired in perez lopezs back. A use of force expert explains. This physical evidence reports the officers statements that [ inaudible ] headed towards officer reboli and as he began to fire mr. Perez lopez turned away and headed to the street. The independent autopsy also showed perezlopez was shot in the back. But San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon says they are not trying to refute that fact. Were not disputing that he was shot in the back. What were saying is that given the totality of the circumstances that doesnt make it an unlawful shooting. The d. A. Said that the officers still believe that perezlopez was a threat even though he was turning away. Both officers have returned to active duty. Well, this weeks jefferson award winner had to endure that ordeal. So now he is working to make it a little easier for parents and children with a gift of music. [ music ] reporter Jeff Peterson is truly grateful. I wanted to kind of give Something Back to the kids and the nurses and doctors. Reporter his son eric was 3 when he was fighting for his life at ucsf Childrens Hospital. Actually dealing with type 1 diabetes and leukemia at the same time. Reporter to show his gratitude after the recovery he set up the Peterson Family foundation. Starting out in 2003, he donated ipads and headphones. Today, the foundation pays for three full time music therapists and has built this music studio at the new ucsf benioff Childrens Hospital where children create songs uniquely their own. It gives them a chance to share their emotions, to be able to get something out thats hurting. I think thats what really got my heart and my soul saying, this is i got to take this and move forward. Reporter the foundation has expanded Music Therapy to Childrens Hospitals at stanford, ucla, even in italy and london. Jeffs doing it with grants and donations and son eric by his side. I dont think it was until about 4 on 5 years ago that i realized this could have helped me when i was in the hospital and struggling. [ music ] reporter parents now experiencing what jeff did see it helping. It really lifts her spirits, lifts her energy, physically i can see her perk up and see sort of carries this energy throughout the rest of the day. [ music ] her oxygen level, her heart rate, you can see that she is acclimated so much better as far as her development. It has made a really big difference. They feel good and i think it truly helps with their treatment. Reporter so for bringing the healing power of music to children, this weeks jefferson award in the bay area goes to Jeff Peterson. Jeff lost his wife to lung cancer when eric and his twin brother were eight years old. Thats when jeff started the foundation. Today erics twin plays baseball for the kansas city royals.
