fuel is thick, dry brush and we will have more on this fire coming up at 6:30. the butte fire in the sierras has charred nearly 65,000 acres and prompted a state of emergency declaration by the governor. it's prompted thousands of mandatory evacuations and it's only 10% contained. fires in gold country not far from jackson along highway 49 and you can see the areas where people are being told to leave. making things worse, the terrain is rugged and that's making it hard for firefighters. reporter wendy gillette with the massive effort to get if fire under control. >> reporter: the roaring butte wildfire exploded over the past two days in northern california. the flames have destroyed more than a dozen structures and are threatening thousands of homes. >> gentleman just left says that everything is threatened right now and we're hoping for the best. >> reporter: 3,000 firefighters are the place and more are -- in place and more are on way the fire forced hundreds to evacuate. as it moved in the direction of neighborhoods and the town of san andreas and other smaller mountain communities. >> we're getting ready to head out. as soon as we see flames we're out of here. >> reporter: firefighters were able to contain a small percentage of the fire saturday. but it's still eating up more ground. >> we just watched this progressively go up the hill a little bit. it's -- it's picked up probably -- i don't know. probably half a mile or so since we first started watching it. >> reporter: california governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency. wendy gillette for cbs news. >> at least it's going to cool off a little bit this weekend and that should help. meanwhile back in the bay area, it's the largest tactical exercise in the nation, the training event urban shield will simulate dozens of terrorist attacks across the bay this weekend. today members of the u.s. coast guard and the san francisco fire department and ferry crews practiced responding to a ferry hijacking and bombing. in san jose, crews practiced various rescue scenarios. in this case saving people under a collapsed building. >> the urban shield is a very, very valuable exercise for us. many local government agencies don't have the opportunity to get access to resources like this. and the chance for us to come together, work together, collaborate with different teams gives us a huge advantage on real events. >> urban shield is hosted by the alameda county sheriff's office. meanwhile, last night about 150 people gathered outside the alameda county sheriff's office blocking traffic and protesting urban shield. they say it doesn't add security and it only supports further militarization of the police. by the way we have now an explanation for that mystery goo that coated hundreds of birds in san francisco earlier this year. after months of testing researchers say it was polymerized oil that killed about 300 birds. there are still big unanswered questions though. how did the oil end up in the bay? and was it put there by accident or was it deliberate? environmental scientists think they'll probably never know the answers to those questions. well, on the campaign 2016 now, scott walker pulled out of the california republican party's convention. he was supposed to be the headliner next weekend in anaheim. there is no word on why the presidential candidate canceled his appearance. walker is supposed to take part in next week's debate at the reagan presidential library. his campaign has stalled after a lackluster showing at the first gop debate. and new details on a problem that's been dogging hillary clinton on the campaign trail. the justice department says the former secretary of state was allowed to delete personal e- mails from her server. clinton has said she sent and received about 60,000 e-mails during her four years on the job. about half of them she claims were personal and deleted. the others were turned over to the sorts of beautiful art but they've been righting up to take a good look at this. for the in bay area history, we have eight super bowl trophies on disply all at once. to tell us more about it i spoke with ceo and president keith bruce of the san francisco super bowl host committee and here's what he had to say. >> we're making history here in mountain view. eight trophies that san francisco 49ers and the oakland raiders have won. and so we're putting them on display for the first time together. here in mountain view. >> reporter: and these trophies are absolutely beautiful and i tell you what we've had raider fans here. we've had 49er fans here and i'll tell you which fans turned out in greatest numbers, that's coming up a little later in the program but also if you can't make it up to the investigating a non- violent crime. and supposed non-violent criminal that isn't running. isn't showing any -- any sign of resisting. it really is completely unnecessary. >> the officer has been placed on desk duty while the incident is being investigated. both new york city police commissioner william bratton and mayor bill de blasio apologized to blake. >> it's really nice, but this guy has five civilian complaints as well. i'm sure the same people haven't gotten that same call and i think there needs to be an act of apology to all those people that don't have the stature that i have. we need to find a way to stop this from happening. >> the head of the police union says the officer was just doing his job and that he shouldn't be disciplined before the investigation is concluded. well, in the east bay, race car enthusiasts has his prize mustang back. the chp found the stolen truck, trailer and car in a junk yard in oakland yesterday. the car was in its trailer when it was stolen in san ramon earlier this week. the owner calls his vintage mustang red and says the car is worth more than $100,000. >> since he confirmed that it was his trailer, what's his reaction been? >> he's thrilled and ecstatic. i think he thought he'd never see it again. he's really happy. >> no signs of any damage to the car the truck or the trailer and as for the thieves, they're still on the loose tonight. and still to come, an east bay community demands change. the work they want done to make their neighborhood and their streets safer. >> good evening everybody. roberta gonzales at the of the millions raised from alameda county's measure b. b. to go where it is supposed to go to. remareing the streets. but mayor says the city doesn't have complete control over the funds. >> this is why the legislature is in a special session that the governor is ordered them in. is to figure out a sustainable system to generate the types of resources so cities like oakland can have safe streets. >> the city of oakland has a $450 million backlog in street repairs. and oakland pride is here. the parade starts tomorrow at 10:30 at broadway and 14th. it runs right after from 11:00 to 7:00. an group of people out here. great music. good food. i've been told delicious wine. i don't know. i'm on the clock. so i have no idea. but also some wonderful art as well. now behind me here, this is the first time we've ever seen this. eight vince lombardi trophies, they're super bowl trophies all in one place at one time. i want to tell you how you can get a good look at these. but first, you know what? the number one question out here has been today? is it going to rain? let's call up our hi-def doppler radar. it's very rare we ever get to call on our doppler radar anymore and it does indicate that we have a few sprinkles actually in the north bay at this hour. so let's go' head and play it out like this. first off it's cloudy outside and let's take a look at the temperatures because everybody has been commenting about the heat wave. and it has broken. current air temperatures 67- degrees in san francisco to 82- degrees in livermore. it's currently 74 degrees right here in mountain view. this is what you need to know. cloudy tonight. a few sprinkles. temperatures rebound tomorrow. okay we're going to have a combination of some sunshine and some clouds on your sunday. high pressure, trying to continue its command over the state of california but we've had the remnants of what was once a hurricane. blew into the bay area produced the cloud cover and busts the heat wave and produced a few sprinkles. tonight, again those sprinkles are possible. and speaking of tonight, boy is it going to be refreshing and temperature-wise into the 50s and few low 60s. and the overnight hours, meanwhile tomorrow, we will rebound after cooling nearly 30 degrees around the bay area today in comparison to friday. temperatures in the 60s at the beaches. 60s and 70s bay side and that's pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. and then going all the way up to an outside number of 90 degrees, seven day forecast 90s is your outside number tomorrow. low 90s by monday and then a cooling trend moves into the bay area just in time as we kick start a brand new workweek. stephanie martin is here with us today. she works public relations with the super bowl host committee. i should say super bowl 50 because this is special. tell me about the beautiful trophies here today. >> well we are here at the art and wine festival and thrilled to be here and we have the eight trophies. the five from the 49ers, the three from the raiders. first time ever the trophies are together. >> reporter: and people have just been amazed. coming and seeing all eight at once. now group of people out here. great music. good food. i've been told delicious wine. i don't know. i'm on the clock. so i have no idea. but also some wonderful art as well. now behind me here, this is the first time we've ever seen this. eight vince lombardi trophies, they're super bowl trophies all in one place at one time. i want to tell you how you can get a good look at these. but first, you know what? the number one question out here has been today? is it going to rain? let's call up our hi-def doppler radar. it's very rare we ever get to call on our doppler radar anymore and it does indicate that we have a few sprinkles actually in the north bay at this hour. so let's go' head and play it out like this. first off it's cloudy outside and let's take a look at the temperatures because everybody has been commenting about the heat wave. and it has broken. current air temperatures 67- degrees in san francisco to 82- degrees in livermore. it's currently 74 degrees right here in mountain view. this is what you need to know. cloudy tonight. a few sprinkles. temperatures rebound tomorrow. okay we're going to have a combination of some sunshine and some clouds on your sunday. high pressure, trying to continue its command over the state of california but we've had the remnants of what was once a hurricane. blew into the bay area produced the cloud cover and busts the heat wave and produced a few sprinkles. tonight, again those sprinkles are possible. and speaking of tonight, boy is it going to be refreshing and temperature-wise into the 50s and few low 60s. and the overnight hours, meanwhile tomorrow, we will rebound after cooling nearly 30 degrees around the bay area today in comparison to friday. temperatures in the 60s at the beaches. 60s and 70s bay side and that's pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. and then going all the way up to an outside number of 90 degrees, seven day forecast 90s is your outside number tomorrow. low 90s by monday and then a cooling trend moves into the bay area just in time as we kick start a brand new workweek. stephanie martin is here with us today. she works public relations with the super bowl host committee. i should say super bowl 50 because this is special. tell me about the beautiful trophies here today. >> well we are here at the art and wine festival and thrilled to be here and we have the eight trophies. the five from the 49ers, the three from the raiders. first time ever the trophies are together. >> reporter: and people have just been amazed. coming and seeing all eight at once. now tell me, if these trophies are going to be here today, will they be back tomorrow? >> yes, they will be. we'll be here from 10:00 to 6:00 tomorrow and the next week we move to fremont and santa clara. >> reporter: so amazing because don't we get to have the trophies here in the bay area for like what eight weeks? >> that's right. 12 weeks, going to sacramento and down to santa cruz. really virginia on the search of a huge upset. albert reid touchdown. my alma mater led the irish by one. but you see the time. irish back up. kaiser threw will fuller got past the defenders. a game-winning 39-yard touchdown. and notre dame won it in a -- that's how i felt -- won it in a thriller 34-27. sixth ranked auburn under duress needed this johnson to race handdown. just to tie jacksonville state at 20. send it to overtime. auburn went ahead. last chance for jacksonville state. josh barge, he -- caught the fourth down pass. but was ruled out of bounds. that is how the tigers escaped winning 27-20. and nfl, how's that fantasy football lineup going? vikings, slight road favorite at the 49ers monday. raiders three point underdog when they host the bengals. yesterday, out of nowhere, aldon smith appeared on the raiders' radar. the embattled pass rusher signed a one year deal with oakland. a month after the 49ers released him. following his latest arrest. the 49ers had just had it with him. he was charged with dui and hit and run and vandalism yesterday. from that august incident. despite now playing across the bay, his old coach 49ers' jim tomsula still hopes smith can turn his life around. >> all i or anybody here want for aldon is a great life. and that's just as -- again, everything there doesn't have to do anything with football. i don't think -- i mean i don't want to speak for other people but i would feel confident saying that about this whole organization. everybody in that locker room okay? all we want is what's best for him. we want him to have -- we want him
