You see it right there, Hillary Clinton has won the delegates she needs to become the democratic nominee at the democratic convention. They will put her over the top. The first female nominee of any major party. And it was exactly eight years ago that she withdrew from the race and endorsed barack obama. We all remember that and today, a much different story. Not quite over yet. Still a lot of states yet to vote today. Clinton still in a bruising battle with Bernie Sanders. He says hell keep fighting her all the way to the convention. As i said six states go to the polls today. Lets take a look at Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders supporters. There they are in new jersey. Hillary clinton wasnt planning on making this history overnight. This came after a fresh count of superdelegates. In fact, her big party is planned for tonight in new york, in fact, adding to all this drama Bernie Sanders is refusing to accept these results. Overnight, Hillary Clinton securing enough delegates to clinch the democratic nomination. Making history as the first woman in the country to become the presumptive nominee of a Major Political party. We are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment but we are still have work to do, dont we . Reporter clinton winning enough commitments from superdelegates to push her to the number needed for the nomination and it came early. Six states vote today. Clinton reminding voters that she still needs their support. We know his endorsement of Hillary Clinton could come very soon. Robin, we also know that Bernie Sanders is soon to be headed back to vermont after voting today to assess his campaign. Jon, Hillary Clinton says shes on the brick of history but, as weve been saying and heard from cecilia, Bernie Sanders, hes not calling it quits and many are wondering why hes staying in. Whether he really has a chance here, jon. Reporter if you look at the numbers, Hillary Clinton does have it wrapped up. You need 2,383 delegates to win the democratic nomination. That is precisely the number she has. But, but, but theres a lot of voting going on today. You have six states voting new jersey in the east, south dakota, north dakota, the biggest delegate prize of all, california all told, over 900 delegates at stake today. And if you look at her clinching, it includes those socalled superdelegates and as the Sanders Campaign will tell you they dont actually vote until the convention itself. But if you take out the superdelegates, this is without any superdelegates, Hillary Clinton still has a big lead over Bernie Sanders, in fact, if you take out the superdelegates to overtake Hillary Clinton with a lead, sanders would need to win all six states today by an average of 40 points. And on the republican side there, jon, of course, no real challenge there with donald trump. But he is poised to make history, as well. Reporter absolutely. In fact, if you look at the total votes he already has take a look at this, robin, donald trump before a single vote is cast has more votes in a republican primary than any other candidate in history. More than both bush, more than mccain, more than romney and Ronald Reagan and more states today, he hopes to add at least a couple more million to that total. Really quite an achievement. Thats right and six states today, d. C. Coming up. So with the exception of d. C. That will be the last. Yeah. Whats going to happen between now and the conventions next month . Reporter well certainly see a lot of back and forth between Hillary Clinton and donald trump. But they both have two Major Projects they have to do. Planning tear conventions, donald trump is planning what he says will be the greatest show on earth. Hillary clinton needs to find a role for Bernie Sanders and then, of course, robin, enter now starting right now the veepstakes. Who do each of them choose as their running mate . You see the numbers and Hillary Clinton has clinched the nomination. Neither you or president obama have endorsed yet. Are you prepared now to embrace Hillary Clinton as your partys nominee . Im a voter in california and i have voted for Hillary Clinton for president of the United States and proud to endorse her for that position. But i hasten to say that its not over till its over. Californians havent voted. Nor have others in five states so, while the nomination may be there in the numbers in terms of superdelegates, i didnt endorse yet because i am a superdelegate and i think that the matter should be determined by the voters in the state. As you know, Bernie Sanders has said no matter what happens tonight hes going to try to flip the superdelegates between now and the convention in order to get the nomination. His argument is that he can do better in the fall against donald trump. What do you make of that . Well, lets see what happens. I think hes also said lets see what happens tonight and well go from there. Bernie knows better than anyone whats on the line in the election and that we at some point have to unify as we go forward. He wants to influence the platform. I think thats fine. But if he keeps on going does it hurt the party . Well, i think that hell go forward in a way that will be constructive to the party because as you know ive been involved a long time as have you and ive never seen such a polarized situation where the Republican Party is so divided itself, they cant even pass their own budget, much less anything where we can find a compromise between the parties which is our responsibility. You were the first female speaker of the house. Yes. What does it mean to have the first female nominee for a pay jar party . Let me say of Hillary Clinton, its wonderful that shes a woman. Its fabulous that we would have a woman president and i believe that she will walk into that oval office one of the best prepared people to do so in our countrys history, however, its because she is the best, not because shes a woman, however, having said that, pretty exciting and i can say, having been elected chosen as speaker in congress the response from the public is so wonderful that youve broken another i say marble ceiling in the congress. Youve been there. You know its a very maledominated place. It was a big moment when you became speaker, no question about that. Now, everyone is looking ahead to the next steps some people saying two is even better than one. Elizabeth warren joining Hillary Clinton on the ticket. I think that two women, whoever they may be, that would be fabulous, as well but Hillary Clinton will choose the person that she feels most comfortable with. Thats half the state. We have notified our National Guard and we have the potential to activate 6,000 National Guard Members Around the state. Reporter the Sunshine Skyway bridge shut down, visibility so poor officials did not want drivers at risk. Storm surge along with more than 10 inches of rain falling causing many communities to flood. But well begin with that growing outrageous over the star College Swimmer sentenced to six months in jail after his conviction for Sexual Assault. Critics slamming the sentence as too lenient and comments from the swimmers father are adding fuel to the fire and matt gutman has all the latest. Good morning, matt. Reporter good morning. The crime was bad enough, that swimmer was found beside his unconscious victim by a dumpster. Now he tried to flee, but two Good Samaritans tracked him down and in sentencing his father lamenting that his sons life is ruined because of 20 minutes of action and now anger is turning towards the judge also. This morning, public outcry is mounting at the judge who sentenced former star swimmer brock turner to only six months in jail for a drunken Sexual Assault outside a Stanford University campus party. A removed judge aaron persky petition already garnering 250,000 signatures. The District Attorney telling me they had expected a much harsher sentence. How many years had you been asking for . I wrote a very lengthy brief and i asked for six years in prison. Reporter but the judge ruling that a prison sentence would have a severe impact on brock. Outrage mounting also at this letter turners father submitting it to the court at sentencing begging for leniency for his son writing, the guilty verdict and its many consequences would be a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action. But its another Statement Read at sentencing that is having a wider impact now, the victims directed at the man who assaulted her. Among her words, i read something that i will never forgive. I read that according to him, i liked it. Those 12 pages read on tv. Majority of the statement i would like to address the defendant directly. You dont know me but you know me. He said i thought i liked it because i rubbed his back. A back rub. It is one of the most eloquent and articulate letters i have ever read. I dont think anything like it has ever been written. Reporter reading the statement in court turners victim said that hours after the assault, i wanted to take off my body like a jacket and leave it at the hospital with everything else. Millions clicking on her letter online. During the sentencing turner said that he could barely live with himself having inflicted pain on another person. But the d. A. Tells me he has not once apologized for the assault itself. With Good Behavior he could be out of jail within three months, george. Okay, matt, thanks very much. Lets talk about this now with nancy grace, the hots of nancy grace on hln. Nancy, thanks for joining us. The judge said he was just following the recommendation of the county Probation Department known in the past for being respected, fair, was a sex crimes prosecutor but, boy, hes now facing this recall effort. How do you explain all this . You know what, there is no logical explanation for what he did. This judge, aaron persky, i believe should be removed because not only did he ignore the state and their request for six years behind bars and i want to correct something i heard earlier. When the passersby, two guys went by on bicycles, they looked over at the perpetrator, and he is a perpetrator, a jury found him guilty on three felony sex attacks on this girl, he wasnt beside her at that moment. He was on top of her. And she was naked from about the bra down. On the ground on the dirt, the pine straw by a dumpster. He wasnt just standing there. He was on her. They pulled back. He jumps up and runs. He knew he had done something horribly wrong. Now, not only did the judge ignore the state recommendation and i dont say the judge has to always agree with the state, but this is the law in that jurisdiction. The California Assembly said these felonies are punishable up to ten years each, 10 to 14 years. He ignored the assembly which is us, the people. He ignored a jury that sat there and heard the evidence and returned these verdicts. And in my mind the most important, the crime victim, he ignored her. Ive dealt with so many rape victims and i cant tell you what it takes to go through what they go through. And to have it just dismissed. This guy is going to probably do three months in county jail. Really . Its absurd. Her statement has been a manifesto for so many. Really never heard anything like that before. You know, that letter that she wrote was so powerful, especially when she said to all the crime victims out there when you are lonely, when you are sad, when you feel like nobody believes you, i am with you on those and i said i can speak from my own experience. Crime victims suffer, not just during the crime but on and on and on, especially rape victims. And for the father, the father, i know he loves his son but to call a sex assault down on the ground by a dumpster, to call it action, his son got some action. I mean that really shed light on it and another scary aspect, this may never have come to light if the father had not written that letter. The letter goes on to say now my son wont eat his favorite pretzels and rib eye steak. Really . Were going to have to end it there. Thanks very much. Also very disturbing. People said to me, the one thing that they heard over and over again that you were the one that led whitney to heavy drug use. You were the one. It wasnt me that started her. I take i take my part and i take it hard for me even being a part of it but we all have our own minds and some of us are stronger than others. What do you think about the admissibility of Something Like this . Well, certainly evidence of animal reactions has been present in cases insofar as, you know, a dog barking at a suspect and then Law Enforcement focuses on that suspect. Now, obviously, there arent very many animals that speak the english language. So this specific issue hasnt been litigated. I would say it comes down to two things. Is the evidence relevant, i think in this case it would be and then really the crux of it is going to be how reliable this kind of evidence would be. Alex, police say the wife is a suspect. Oh, yes, they were all watching, and when i got back to my phone i probably had maybe over 250 Text Messages i have not been able to get through but some were my soldiers so theyre very excited for me. My unit is extremely supportive and its just been awesome. And talk about your family. Your father was in special services for 24 years, met your mom while he was in the military. Your brother, your sister, you at 17. Yes. What did they say when you said, you know what, im going to be miss usa . Im going to be miss usa. You know, they were a little taken back that i even considered pageantry but they have all been so supportive and committed to the military at 17. My going through the rotc program at my school and i commissioned as an officer in 2011 so the only officer of all of us so they give me a hard time about that. Theyre on the enlisted side, both my father with special forces and my mother and brother and sister so theyre like well never salute you, its awesome to be an officer, as well. And congratulations on that, that is quite an accomplishment. And you said that when you were in school back in the day that you were bullied. Yes. Because i say dont let the frame fool you. Because people were saying about how your size and they gave you a hard time about that. Yes, they did. Ive always had a small frame and been very slim even through high school and middle school and there are a lot of names that were called. I was kind of a late bloomer so they never let me forget that going through school so i have a lot of High School Friends that have actually reached out to me and said congratulations, so its good to know we have a relationship even though it was kind of a difficult time in high school. At the age of 5 i almost drowned and thank to a lifeguard that it was quick and my mom got me into lessons and we hearded the hard way swimming is a life skill. How about those lipton trials.
