upper 60s around the bay and coastside staying in the mid-60s with the steady on shore push. by the afternoon we will be a few degrees cooler inland. 87. mid-70s around the bay and high clouds throughout the afternoon. so a nice start to summer. we will tell you about the second half of the weekend and the rest of the upcoming work week. of developing news out of berkeley where ten people are displaced following an apartment fire that broke out overnight. it housed three apartment units. it took fire crews almost an hour to put out the flames. officials estimate about $300,000 in damage was done. no word on what caused the fire. >> a five-alarm fire that destroyed several homes west fairfield is out this morning. firefighters remained on the scene overnight to make sure there weren't any flareups. here's what it looked like at 5:00 p.m. yesterday. the front of the home is on fire and firefighters are trying to put it out. another hour later another structure is destroyed by the fire. and you see several fire trucks with hoses dousing the flames. by 7:00 you see the remnants of the first home we showed you. all that remains is a pile of smoke and charred rubble. no word on what started the fire. wind gusts didn't help. the wind was moving 17 miles an hour to the west with gusts up to 25 miles an hour. it was also dry, which is 22% relative humidity. something that firefighters had to drop them, these water drops. a cal fire helicopter came in swooping the fire with water. bonds nearby provided the water. the fire spread very quickly. abc7 news reporter alan wang has more on how homeowners didn't have much warning. >> we couldn't bring much. >> it was supposed to be the home where they were going to start their new life together. >> i grabbed my wedding dress. it's sort of expensive. and our clothes and the dog and got out of there. it was within minutes and then -- well, the house was gone. >> they lost everything except the wedding dress after a brush fire ignite aid lock interstate 680. the winds were blowing at more than 20 miles per hour and embers were flying across the highway. >> this wind and vegetation, and it was just like a flame torch. >> within minutes firefighters were dealing with a five-alarm fire that burned down one home and four out buildings. utility poles caught fire, pulling down large power lines in the neighborhood and this man thought his home and dog were gone. when he arrived, his home was still there and his dog was waiting for them. >> i was worried about the dog. i'm happy to see the dog. >> all lanes of interstate 680 were shut down during the friday rush hour. residents along the highway are common, but they had never seen it spread this fast. in cordelia, abc7 news. >> firefighters in san francisco are tracking an arsonist who seem to be targeting construction sites in the area according to construction crews, at one development one of the fires cost $30,000 in damage. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has more where another fire was set thursday. >> reporter: crews quickly attacked this fire inside the parking structure at the plaza. you can see a firefighter trying to pry open the hood of the car that was set ablaze. according to residents an e-mail was sent out notifying tenants this was the second fire set this week. >> after the first fire the fire department came in and couldn't find the course of the fire, just a lot of smoke and that's it. the second one they said they saw a guy running out of the parking garage after setting fire to a car and they are investigating the matter. >> building management may have pulled a picture of a suspect from the cameras. other residents say the back-to-back fires are a concern. >> two days in a row is scary, that is happened two dismiss a row. >> knowing there were other incidents that led up to these last two. i'm sure that's got a lot of people concerned. >> this is the latest in the series of fires of that have been set at or near construction sites in the booming south of market neighborhood. investigators with the san francisco police and fire departments are working together as a special joint task force. they want to catch whoever is setting the fires before anyone gets hurt. even getting out of this high rise is a concern. >> it is scary. we are on a really high level so to get out of the building fast is kind of a scary moment for us if the elevators aren't working. >> construction crews tell us they have increased security patrols and are adding video cameras. abc7 news. two suspects is in custody and a third on the run after a robbery in san francisco. there was a chase on 9th and mission street. three people in the car suffered minor injuries. >> police believe three to five suspects armed with guns entered a nail salon and held up victims in a takeover style robbery. no one was hurt. police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing his former girlfriend and kidnapping their daughter. that was thursday night. sunnyvale public safety officers say this man is considered armed and dangerous. they say he took the girl from their home near wilson fair oaks thursday and threatened to hurt himself and the girl. an amber alert was issued and he returned his daughter three hours later, but he is still on the loose. his ex-girlfriend has been released from the hospital. a company who owned a number of for-profit colleges said it may have to shut down. chorinthian colleges own heal, everest and wire tech schools. it claims a recent department of education decision to delay the school's access to federal student aid means it could run out of money. the government says they didn't provide records that needed. they have 27,000 students in the ban on cars will take place from noon to 6:00 p.m. on saturdays and sundays and on friday the 4th of july. local traffic and taxis will be allowed on lombard as well as pedestrian. it's a pilot program put into place after homeowners complained about noise and traffic. contra costa county health officials have confirmed the first human case of the year of west nile virus. a man in his 60s in the central part of the county is out of the hospital and recovering. county officials also confirmed three dead crows found in oakley tested positive for west nile. the virus is typically spread by mosquitoes. officials stress it's important to protect yourself. >> there's evidence that people 50 years or older, as well as people with diabetes or hypertension, might be more vulnerable to symptoms. they are asking those people to protect themselves from mosquito bites as well. >> symptoms include fever, headache and body ache. only about 1% of people infected require hospitalization. mosquitoes canned be found around standing water. you should clear that kind of stuff out. >> we are so dry out there. but at least with the on shore flow, nothing offshore. a strong gusty north winds they will take satellites into space and return to earth as part after reusable rocket test. today's test is scheduled for 2:46 p.m. our time. they expect about a 60% chance of favorable weather. >> a tech shuttle buses in san francisco. yesterday the city looked at removing park spaces to make more room. three spaces would be removed permanently and 30 other spots restricted at certain times. residents vowed to fight the 18 month pilot program. >> the pilot program was extremely similar to what the status quo has been and that's part of our problem with it. >> this is a pilot and this is something we want to monitor as we go forward. if there are changes we have to make, we will make them. >> tech buses currently have about 220 stops in san francisco. the new plan would drop it to 120. they plan to vote in july. if approved the pilot program will begin in august. with parking at a premium in much of the bay area, we are never shocked by parking signs or prices anymore, but check this out. this signposted in l.a. says one-minute parking. it was clearly a mistake. it was posted on a website where an l.a. city employee saw it and tracked down the sign. it will be replaced but it will stay up while crews make a new one which will say one hour parking. that makes a lot more sense. a record number of young coho salmon have been making their way out to sea and it could be because of the drought. according to our media partner the marin independent journal. the lack ever winter rain may have kept the young coho in the watershed where their survival chances are greater. they didn't move downstream. they were in a holding pattern. water officials counted 20,000 coho in the main watershed this spring. the last time was 11,000 back in 2012. some unexpected consequences of the drought, i guess. a little built of good news there but overall very bad. >> yes. although today compared to yesterday, not quite as dry. certainly dry out there. but the winds will be coming off the ocean today. a strong northern breeze that helped fuel the fire out by cordelia. and today with winds up to 20 and 30 miles an hour at times, it will be just a bit cooler around the bay. live doppler 7hd. you see the cloud cover. it's high clouds and low clouds this morning. but they won't last long. marine layer is being squashed by an area of high pressure. and a look from the camera atop vollmer peak shows a nice sight. you see the movement of the clouds and the fog above. temperatures range from the upper 50s in oakland, 55 san carlos, 52 morgan hill with 50 in half moon bay. and more clouds are gathering along the central coast as well. here's san jose with some high clouds. 51 in santa rosa. concord coming in at 59. livermore 355. and 50 in novato. finally from santa cruz, looks nice down there. we will see another sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 70s. the first day of summer. summer arrived at 3:51 this morning. slightly cooler throughout the day today. you especially feel that in the north bay where you have had the strong north winds yesterday. we still have the upper 80s in the inland valleys but the seasonal pattern stays with us through next week. and you probably know what that means a steady on shore flow. so with low pressure to the east of us and high pressure situated offshore, we will have that nice breeze keeping temperatures cool at the coast. in fact pretty cloudy if you are around the san mateo coast from half moon bay, pacifica. should get sun toward stinson. minor fluctuations through tuesday and by about wednesday a slightly deeper trough could bring cooler weather our way. today up in the north bay for nascar sonoma, temperatures warm, climbing through the 60s and 70s by the early afternoon. low 80s 3:00. so lots of traffic and warm weather there. and in almeda this afternoon temperatures even a little warmer with mid-80s with mid-70s the evening hours. upper 50s by 11:00. you will have to bring the jacket if you are going to be there all day long. san jose near 80. average high 81. you notice very little change tomorrow. a bump up monday and tuesday. the numbers come back down. 86 los gatos, 77 sunnyvale, as well as menlo park today. a few high clouds from time to time. mid-60s in the cities. and in the north bay a warm one through santa rosa and napa. 84 there. east bay look for low 70s. oakland and san leandro. 76 fremont. you head inland and more low 80s. and 84 in walnut creek. here's the accuweather forecast today. upper 70s around the bay. upper 80s inland. it will be breeze city at the cost and limited from san francisco on south and then by monday and tuesday a couple degrees warmer, then a couple degrees cooler, all making for a fairly typical and benign first week of it is this photo of a father's dedication to his son who has cerebral palsy is going viral. he had this chair made for he can take his son with him on hikes. it was taken as part of a contest for the national parks. the park posted it. because he grew slowly, he was able to carry him on his back until he was 17. but now with the wheel pack they are able to take him just about anywhere. kids in oakland are happy this weekend as they celebrate a new playground in the neighborhood. if the city had built the playground it would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars but the labor and play country. new details, a veterinarian confirms a golden retriever found wandering through a tahoe the campground is the dog lost on a camping trip a year and a half ago. he became separated from the family during a camping trip in 2012. the vet could not perform a dna test, but did remember a unique scar the dog had on his leg. they checked and there was the scar. apparently he survived 20 months, including two winters in the wilderness above the treeline all alone. judges for the world's ugliest dog contest said they have picked the winner because his smile was so shocking. and winning, apparently. peanut came all the way from north carolina. he was a rescue dog who was abused. the owner came 2200 miles to make the trip. she wants to raise awareness for ugly animals saying they need love too. peanut's owner will take home $1,500 and a four-foot trophy which kind of towers over her sweet little pup. much more ahead on the abc7 saturday morning news. california agriculture confronts the realities of the drought. we will tour some nearby farms that are getting left high and dry. a new plan for managing traffic around the sonoma raceway and the nightmare morning. we will look for the marine layer to all but disappear very quickly. another warm day in the inland valleys. 55 in san jose. we have clouds half moon bay. 50 there and 53 in san francisco. here is san jose with the high clouds. numbers ranging from about 50 in novato to 59 in concord. so today the changes come with a stronger on shore push. the north winds are gone. and that means that the relative humidity will just come up with little bit today. that means low 60s from pacifica, half moon bay 66. san francisco. undergirt berkeley and oakland, near 70s. toed mid-60s. mid-to upper california fire officials have issued a blunt assessment of what kind of summer it's going to be. >> 2014 could turn out to be the worst fire season ever. >> cal fire has an extra $100 million in its budget and it's hired 300 extra firefighters, but that won't help if people in fire prone areas don't clear the brush around their home and go the extra mile to guard against fire. >> be sure your roof is clean, be sure your gutters don't have pine needles and leaves in them. we say it all the time, but i will drive around the neighborhood and i can guarantee i will find homes full of pine needles in the gutters. >> set up an evacuation plan for your family, clean up around your home, and go quickly if told to leave. it's a reddy, set, go plan. the drought continues to spread to new parts of california. farmers are told they won't have enough water to plant their next round of crops. laura anthony reports. >> you can see it's empty right now. it sounds like it might remain empty. >> reporter: ron has this ten acre plot of organic soil ready to plant for the spring season, but the local irrigation district gave him a warning. >> i was advised over a month ago the plantings i intended to plant here i should not do, due to the fact that they are looking at having no water available to us. i intended to grow certified organic tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, green beans, among other things. >> reporter: now all he can do is wait. he is on the water irrigation board to decide if they will receive their allocations. right now the nearby canal is full full, but come july 1st, they could be turned off completely. he has been able to sustain his operation by maximizing other plots of land he owns in another water district that likely won't see a cut from the state. from those he is able to offer his customers a nice array of organic fruits and vegetables, but he still worries about the future of his family farm. >> i don't know how i'm going to finish out the year as far as what it's going to mean. i've got a fair amount of money already invested in this particular property that if we do have no water on this property, it is certainly going to affect my bottom line to a pretty good extreme. >> reporter: the bedroom community of mountain house west of tracy is also 100% dependent on this water district. the health and safety district would allow an exemption but there could be a complete ban on all outside watering. the state water board is expected to signal its intent to the buy i don't know-bethany district and others as soon as next week. laura anthony, abc7 news. water conservation may become mandatory in much of the bay area soon. secretary of state john kerry will travel to jordan today to talk about the crisis in iraq. they are sending realtime images to u.s. intelligence. 300 military advisors are being dispatched to assist the army. the opposition has taken over much of northern iraq in an attempt to make a hard-line islamic state. there will be a rally today calling for no new war in iraq. protesters are calling for the obama administration to focus on healthcare, housing, education and jobs as opposed to another war. today's rally corresponds with the united way's day of action t gets underway at noon at power -- powell and market streets in san francisco. a new report finds that the government has little evidence that treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder for veterans is effective. according to the l.a. times the government spend $3 billion on ptsd treatment in 2012 but they have not collected data on how effective the treatments are. while the v.a. has trained mental healthcare providers on trained treatment, they find the v. a. is not meeting their own requirements to offering the treatments to every veteran in need. >> the family of a family -- a boy awaiting donation for a bone marrow match is now giving back. this boy had 80 blood transfusions to stay alive. he is now cured thanks to a bone marrow donation from his brother. now his family is giving back by sponsoring their own blood drives. today's drive is from ten to four at the zion lutheran school in san francisco. tomorrow is the toyota 350 nascar event in sonoma. it always creates a nightmare. a traffic nightmare. also highway 121 if you coming in from the north. we have the details. 55 in san jose with 50 half moon bay. we will look for the marine layer to get more and more shallow as we go through the morning hours. it won't disappear all together. it will hang out along the coast, keeping it pretty typically cool there. here is emeryville and the sunshine this morning. 54 novato, 59 concord, 55 livermore, and 51 in santa rosa and in the sierra nevada, a few high clouds. could see a thunderstorm here by wednesday. and the stronger area of low pressure begins to attack the bay area and northern mountains. today plenty of sunshine on the way. the first day of summer will be slightly cooler today. you will notice that in the north bay and a seasonal weather pattern sets up for the first full week of summer. so high pressure off the coast. you will notice that we do have that alignment where the weather flows, the air flows from the highs to the low and that brings a steady sea breeze. northwesterly winds on tap for today and minor fluctuation necessary the next couple days with temperatures down a few degrees, then up a few degrees. but by wednesday maybe more significant changes as the trough gets a little closer to the coast. so we will see how that pans out. more likely the marine layer will be enhanced and we may have some mist and drizzle. the sonoma marin fair will be warm. about 84 degrees this afternoon. so depending on where you are, you will definitely need the sun block but at the coast 28 be comfortable. low 90s for sacramento. a little delta breeze but it will stay in the 90s for the next several days. if you are head today yosemite, 95 there. so a warm one in the southern sierra. at the san mateo county fair temperatures cooler in the upper 60s today. feeling pretty good with the afternoon sea breeze. mid-60s by 7:00. the game today in oakland, 65 at 1:00, upper 60s by 4:00 and plenty of sunshine there. pacifica, ocean beach, low 60s and cool. 71 oakland with 74 in richmond. 82 vallejo, san jose 80 and 72 santa cruz. the accuweather seven-day forecast, between today and tomorrow not quite change. slightly warmer monday and tuesday. the ridge begins to build a little bit. but then the trough comes in and that could mean slightly cooler air especially in next friday. so farrell by discernible changes at this point. >> thank you, ryan vogelsong he will on will go to the mound in arizona trying to snap a six game losing streak. last night they fell to the diamondbacks losing for the ninth time in ten games. here's sports director larry beil with the highlights in this morning's sports. >> good morning, everybody. mired in a five-game losing streaks, the giants opened a series in arizona last night. d-backs have the worst record in the national league, what could go wrong?
