Further to the south, city of San Francisco, even the east bay, widely isolated showers at this hour but watch whats approaching in the south bay, with heavier downpours that are all moving north over the next couple of hours. We will see that move throughout the bay area. Lets time it out specifically in the south bay. In about the next half hour, san jose gets on this more moderate rainfall. In 45 minutes, right around gilroy. Within the 58 minutes, this moderate band of showers will move through livermore. If you are waiting for someone to come into the airport, look at arrival delays right now, almost three hours thanks to the rain and low ceiling. Oakland and san jose right now are not reporting any travel delays. As we time the rain from now until 7 00, we do have that damp evening rush. From 7 00 p. M. Until midnight, we will see a lull in the showers, scattered widely in nature but its after midnight another round of rain enters the picture. The full weekend forecast in just a few minutes. Guys . Its been raining off and on in marin throughout the afternoon. We first saw raindrops in downtown san rafael just before 1 00 p. M. , not too heavy, but some people did break out their umbrellas. The rain was intermittent from then on with ominous clouds hovering above. Things picked up a bit midafternoon. Motorists on this frontage road along 580 experienced moderate rainfall. So far, so good. We havent heard of any weatherrelated collisions. Meanwhile, in tibu ron, some people were enjoying the weather on the path near blackies pasture. Its nice because everything becomes green now. We had such a dry period but we enjoy the rain. The kids have fun. They have their rain boots. We enjoy it very much. This is my second walk today. There were only a few raindrops this morning. I hike a lot. I dont care, rain or shine, its wonderful but so happy to have the water now. Two veteran San Francisco Police Officers were convicted by a federal grand jury today of stealing money, drugs and other items from suspects in criminal cases. The two officers were seen in that security video, were convicted of wire fraud, civil Rights Violations and theft. A third officer pleaded guilty and was fired by the department. The threeyear federal investigation began after security video showing Undercover Police in Residential Hotels was released by the public defenders office. Oakland city leaders, Law Enforcement, faith organizations and local businesses have launched a night Walk Campaign to help protect families and children from Sexual Exploitation and predators. Children are basically sexually trafficked, they are basically under slavery of sexual kind throughout the United States and many places in the world, and we are going to stand up against oakland being considered one of those places, at least this part of oakland. The communityled walks began last month. The campaign follows the same model as the citys ceasefire peace walk to curb gun violence and promote unity in oaklands high crime areas. A number of Homeless People forced out of an encampment in san jose called the jungle. They arent moving too far away from that camp. They are setting up in a couple different spots nearby. Abc 7 News Reporter Elissa Harrington has the story. Reporter a man who used to live in the jungle watched as cleanup crews tear down what used to be his home. Workers are clearing debris and Hazardous Waste from the site in san jose. The city called the encampment unsafe and unsanitary. Yesterday the homeless who camped here were forced out, wheeling shopping carts with their belongings through the mud. Theres a few people that have returned to the site. The site has been officially closed since yesterday so we have had to either escort them out or if people were unwilling to leave we worked out other means to get them off the site. Reporter the citys homelessness response manager says they have been transitioning people into Housing Alternatives but not everyone is using those resources. We found a Group Setting up near the creek despite the no trespassing sign. And more people camping in the walmart parking lot. I asked why they were not at a shelter. I dont like the confinement, the rules, having to get up and pull your stuff all over the place. I just like to be free. This community is like a family. Reporter a Security Guard monitored the homeless at walmart but did not ask them to leave. Branson says they are dispatching outreach teams to the camp site but we are also not going to allow the reestablishment of any major encampment site anywhere in the city. Reporter many of the homeless tell me they are holding out hope for some permanent housing. Meanwhile, cleanup crews back at the jungle have already removed 50 tons of waste from the site. Walmart issued a statement saying these folks dont have permission to be on the property so we are working with Community Leaders to find the best solution to this situation. A man driving a rental truck hit and killed a pedestrian in san leandro today around 11 30 at the intersection of washington avenue and montgomery boulevard. This is sky 7 hd video. Police say they found the man believed to be in his 70s pinned under the truck. He died at the scene. The driver of the truck did stay on scene. Police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol are involved. Another fatal accident in daly city. Police looking for a driver who struck and killed an older man on highway 35. Police say the 77yearold was crossing the road around 11 30 last night at westridge avenue. Witnesses saw a large pickup truck, maybe a ford or chevrolet, was going southbound on highway 35 when it hit the man. That intersection where he was is lit, it has traffic controls, everythings functioning properly for it to be as safe as possible to cross the street at that time. The speed limit on highway 35 is 50 Miles Per Hour. Witnesses say the driver stopped briefly and then fled the scene of the accident. Police say the pickup truck had a ladder rack on it. It probably suffered some front end damage or perhaps even a cracked windshield. The victim died at the scene. People from santa clara to oakland are getting ready for the battle of the bay this weekend. 49ers versus raiders on sunday. Reporter well, i think its safe to say that neither team has performed to the level that their fans might have hoped for this season. There is plenty of frustration but the hope is that frustration doesnt come out in the stands this sunday. This is exactly what oakland city leaders and police hope to avoid this sunday. A repeat of the violence in the stands that plagued the two teams last meeting in 2011. We have a much more peaceful crowd at the coliseum. Reporter oaklands mayor believes beefedup security should do the trick this time. The annual preseason rivalry games were canceled after the 2011 contest was marred by two the shootings, two assaults and numerous fist fights. I want to move into the south bay. We are seeing another wave of rain move in onshore. Some of this could be heavy. Heavier showers are moving into the south bay. We will time this out for you, this line is moving rather slowly, about 15 Miles Per Hour to the north. Around cupertino in 19 minutes, san jose within the half hour and moving near fremont within the hour. Within this line, there are heavy downpours creating ponding on roadways. We will take a live look outside from the east bay hills camera where you do see the clouds have thickened, they have lowered and are bringing showers across the region throughout the evening. The forecast calls for showers for the p. M. Rush today. We will get a brief break in the rain midweekend but we only have one completely dry day on the accuweather sevenday forecast. We are in a progressive pattern with rounds of rain coming up. Right now, its rather mild, rather muggy out there. South winds right now keeping temperatures well above normal for this time of year, into the 60s. 62 currently in San Francisco. 68 in hayward. 64 in san jose. Santa rosa is currently at 60 degrees. Satellite and radar, heres the story we are tracking. A cold front is approaching from the west. With that front, showers have erupted ahead of it. We will see waves of showers throughout the next 12 to 18 hours across the region so we will time it out for you, moving into future mode. Throughout the evening, you will need the umbrella. We will have showers by 6 00, scattered throughout the bay area. As you are out and about for friday evening activities, you will still be dodging downpours here and there. It wont be widespread but showers are in the forecast. Then we track another round of rain moving in after midnight. Saturday 4 00 in the morning could see some heavier downpours. Then this all clears out by midday saturday and saturday afternoon we will break into peaks of sunshine. Fast forward into sunday because we have the huge game, the 49ers taking on the raiders, and it looks like it will be dry. Much of sunday, we will see mainly cloudy skies but no showers. The showers move into the picture late in the evening on sunday. So i will move you into sunday 8 00 at night. Here comes light showers working through. We are not seeing heavier downpours, nothing really widespread or organized but showers into the forecast sunday night and into early monday morning, for the morning rush, still dealing with drizzle across the bay area. How much rainfall with this next round of rain . Generally thinking once again a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain in the most lower elevations. Into the higher elevation, could see up to two inches. Sierras will see a few flakes above 8,000 feet. The passes will see all liquid so it wont be a slow go in the higher elevations. I think everything will be okay for drivers taking the passes. Overnight tonight, mild with the south wind, only mid to upper 50s with scattered showers around and then tomorrow, rain for the first half of the day, then saturday afternoon, we dry out, some peaks of sunshine. 64 in San Francisco. 65 in palo alto. 64 for the high in santa rosa. The accuweather seven day forecast shows you we have the rain showers early on tomorrow morning, a break in it saturday afternoon into sunday morning. More rain moves in sunday evening into monday morning. I talked about one completely dry day. Thats going to happen on tuesday. Then as we move into wednesday and thursday, we will see our next storm system move in. I think wednesday and thursday, soaking showers with several inches likely once again. Reporter inside this palo alto home, Marketing Executive sharon wong is hard at work. I just want to make sure were in good shape for our event on sunday. Reporter on this day her dining room transformed into a makeshift assembly line. She and her team of volunteers are behind a new Charitable Initiative called the shoebox project for shelters. They are asking for Community Members to donate small gifts up to 50 worth, everything from new scarves to socks, even perfume or shampoo, all packed inside a shoebox. Donations are then given to Domestic Violence survivors living in nearby shelters. A lot of these women, they leave in a rush, they dont have time to pack anything that they own so they are basically with the clothes on their back, hoping to find help. Reporter the shelter in Santa Clara County is where some of the donations have gone. We spoke to ann lee, a legal advocate and Domestic Violence survivor herself. She says these shoeboxes can truly brighten up someones life. We feel more confident being stronger, being more independent and we can make it. We will do it. Reporter local businesses are also getting into the spirit. Keen garage in palo alto is one of the places where people can drop off their box. People are coming in every day buying gifts for themselves and for their loved ones and for a few dollars, you can put together a package that just not only makes you feel good but makes a huge difference to the women. Rolling stone magazine is apologizing for last months explosive article detailing a brutal gang rape at the university of virginia saying the victim no longer appears credible. Abc 7 News Reporter Caroline Costello reports. Reporter it sparked a national debate, putting administrators at the university of virginia under fire. A female uva Student Giving a disturbing detailed account of being gang raped at a frat house. Her story published in a bombshell article in Rolling Stone magazine. She remembers every moment of the next three hours of agony during which she says seven men took turns raping her, she told the magazine. But now that story is being cast in doubt. Today, Rolling Stones managing editor sent a letter to its readers apologizing. The letter reads in part in the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in her account. We have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced. The editor admitting the reporter never reached out to the accusers alleged attackers in an effort to protect the young woman from what they believed might have further humiliation. Also questioning her story, a group of the accusers Close Friends who are sex assault awareness advocates on campus. According to the Washington Post they have come to doubt her account. And the fraternity where the accuser claims she was raped released a statement saying they, too, have found discrepancies in her story. The fraternity saying none of its members worked at the universitys Aquatic Fitness Center in 2012, a fact the accuser provided in interviews. There was no date function or social event on the weekend the accuser said she attended and was raped. And while the accuser says she was raped by fraternity pledges, the fraternity points out it does not have pledges in the fall semester. The fraternity says it is continuing to cooperate and work with investigators. The accuser in this case is reportedly sticking to her story. Caroline costello, abc news, new york. Vandals have scrawled graffiti on bill cosbys star along the hollywood walk of fame. A tourist snapped this picture, you can see the word rapist, in three different places on cosbys star. Cosbys star has been in place since 1977, more than a dozen women have accused cosby of drugging them and then sexually abusing them. Cosby has countersued one of those accusers claiming that she is only out to get his money. A new report on ebola finds u. S. Doctors and hospitals raised hundreds of false alarms about possible cases. The centers for Disease Control and prevention findings released today found only one in five calls even warranted additional investigation. In most cases, it turned out the patient hadnt traveled to an ebola affected country or had any contact with an ebola patient. Health Officials Say they had no problems with all the nervous phone calls. Demonstrators back on the streets nationwide protesting that grand jury decision not to prosecute a new York City Police officer for the chokehold death of a suspect. [ chanting ] in new york, a small group rallied in union square. This comes after about 10,000 people marched through manhattan last night. [ chanting ] in chicago, marchers moved through downtown. They even blocked Lakeshore Drive before police dispersed the crowd. Officers arrested four people for minor offenses. As night fell along the east coast, protesters began marching through the seats of summerville, massachusetts,just outside of boston. South carolina prosecutors are hailing indictments of three white Police Officers for shooting unarmed black men amid nationwide protest of those not charged as you just saw. The latest was obtained yesterday. A former police chief now faces murder charges in the 2011 shooting death of a 54yearold, bernard bailey. His attorney has claimed selfdefense and accused prosecutors of taking advantage of the political climate. He also argued his client should not be charged under the states stand your ground laws. A judge ruled that didnt apply because the officer confronted bailey, who then tried to leave and get in his truck before he was shot twice in the chest. We dont know what brand of justice they serve in ferguson. We dont know what brand of justice they serve in new york city. But here in south carolina, we believe in the jury system and we believe in what the grand jury has brought as a charge with this indictment. They found probable cause. We believe justice will be served. He faces 30 years to life if convicted. After much speculation, president obama officially named his pick to replace defense secretary chuck hagel, tapping ash carter this morning for hagels post. He most recently served as deputy secretary of defense under hagel. As some of you know he brings a unique perspective with technical knowhow. He is also a physicist which means he is one of the few people who understands how many of our Defense Systems work. I pledge to you my most candid strategic advice. Typhoon hagupit is headed straight for an area where another typhoon hit last year, killing 6300 people. This time Officials Say they are better prepared. They have already started the evacuations and theres a plan to get food and humanitarian aid into that area quickly. The large Filipino Community in daly city is mobilizing relief efforts here as well. Here we are just seeing some rain although we have more rain to come. Spencer is off. Live doppler 7 hd right now will show you in San Francisco, as we press in a little closer, its seeing light shower activity as these cells move off to the east. Even a heavier downpour about to enter richmond. I want to focus your attention into the south bay, where very heavy rain is falling. You see yellow and red moving into palo alto. This entire cell is moving to the north and it is moving over 101 and 280 at this time. That is creating some travel delays if you are going south into the south bay. As we time this out, the heaviest of the rain right around redwood city in 31 minutes, moving to san mateo in about 51 minutes. Its a slowmoving system. That means once you start seeing the heavy rain, it will likely cause ponding on the roadways. Take note of that. That cell as it moves north will likely enhance the travel delays at sfo right now. Arrival delays, nearly three hours right now. This number is likely to rise as the cell moves over the airport. Take note of that. Highs through saturday, we will see rain early on, moving out for afternoon sunshine. Temperatures will be in the 60s. Here in the bay area locally we will have showers first thing in the morning, then by the afternoon it will be better half of the day. The second half, with temperatures in the mid 60s. Michael jones immediately grabbed the wheel of his fathers car in an arkansas town right after his dad suffered a seizure while he was driving. Despite not knowing how to drive, the 13yearold was able to avoid traffic and get help for his father. Trying to make sure that we wouldnt hit anybody and i remember going through a red light to make sure that we wouldnt hit any cars. I remember going through that and stopping the car two houses away from the intersection. Michaels mother says the seizure happened because of a medication issue. The young teens father is doing well. Jones Boy Scout Troop recently presented him with an award for his quick thinking and composure under pressure. This was not your normal night rave. These Early Morning gym goers have chosen to step off their treadmills, put down the weights and dance their way to better health. Its called morning gloriville, part exercise, part fancy dress. The new fitness concept is attracting thousands every morning in the uk. Its so lovely, just a great energizer. Its better than the gym. Completely different energy. It wasnt only bikes that were stolen. 20 20 placed hidden cameras throughout the city in an attempt to document what happened to stolen ipads, guitars and purses. The woman had her 20,000 violin stolen from her and with all these thefts that are happening in San Francisco we thought you know what, i thought i had to apologize to San Francisco because even though we will highlight a lot of these crooks, we will also see the best of San Francisco. So you will be really surprised to see what happens with a lot of those ipads and purses. Completely illegal to jam your phone. Completely. Absolutely illegal. Its illegal to have a device, sell a device, import a device, anything that actually blocks phone calls. They were having problems with this on broadway, then because they figured we would just block all the phones. The problem is no one could call 911 then and by the way, they dont have a right to take over the air waves. Recently a hotel got busted for this as well. They received a hefty fine. They can charge you like 440,000. But it can be a ton of money. Good to know. Kathy b. Emails i received an American Community survey from the census bureau. I ignored it and threw it away. Is it required by law that i have to fill it out . Yep, sure is. I get a lot of questions about this thing. They really get into your business and they do it all by law. Again, you can be fined a ton of money, i think up to 10,000. Heres the thing. No one has ever been fined that im aware of. We looked into this. As of about a year and a half ago, no one had ever been fined. Now, having said that, they can show up to your house over and over and over again to bother you trying to get you to do it. Sometimes they do. You have to by law. And i have been trying to file a Car Insurance claim. I was hit from behind and it has been very tough to get help. What can i do . Do it in this order. Start with the other guys insurance company. Actually, you really start with your own, if you have comprehensive, start with your own and go hey, this guy hit me, i need you to take care of it. That doesnt work, go with the other guys insurance company. If that doesnt work, your next two choices are 7 on your side, we are happy to look into this and try to fix it for you, or you can go to united policy holders. They are a local consumer group. They do fabulous work. You might want to look them up online. They have a lot of information there. It can be so frustrating. Especially when its not your fault. The main r b singers, i see their kids wearing them. Its like wow, i cant believe my mom actually gets to make clothes and design them. Reporter barbara has no formal education in fashion or business. She doesnt even have a website. But she does have the entrepreneurial skills her father taught her before he died of cancer last year. For now, her only Online Presence is on instagram, where she has 17,000 followers who are helping her make a profit. Anybody who feels that theyre creative and they actually can, they feel they have creativity but dont know where to take it, i would encourage starting on instagram. Well, heres a live look from atop the rooftop along the embarcadero. Roof camera, same story, cloudy skies. Its been raining in the city off and on all day. Lets head to the north bay right now with a look at misty conditions there. Conditions in mill valley tonight, where there had been flooding for several days. More rain is on the way. Lets check in with abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel with the first look at live doppler 7 hd. Yeah, as we take a look at live doppler 7 hd, you will notice that we do have some rain falling right now and it is heavy in pockets, crossing 280. I will take you in a little closer here as we look to redwood city, palo alto, also seeing some pretty good returns around 880, thornton avenue, newark area, union city. Now as we take a look at the projection of this moisture, it is heading northnortheast. Should be in the atherton area soon, looking down towards the monterey bay, we also are seeing pretty good returns right around the morgan hill area, as i take you closer here. Highway 101, if your travels take you through this area, watch out, especially towards watsonville road and right around the monterey area seeing heavy returns as well. Very scattered showers in the north bay right now but that is going to change. We will see some pockets of heavier rain as you will notice heading into the evening hours and really right on through late tonight. Doesnt end there.
