john moore is a good man and that he needs help more than years in prison for what he did to her friend, and other roommate jackie gilbert. >> i don't think he was attempting to murder her, i think they drank a lot, they were both hardcore alcoholics and i think it just got out of , control. mark: police data shows officers have been called to this home near 8th and railroad over 50 times in 2015, mostly for medical reasons. hinds says the couple had been together about a year argued all the time. their last argument may have started over jealousy about another male roommate. hinds says took the stand for the defense. she explained that her son was exposed to a lot of violence growing up in an ethiopian refugee camp. but how much of that he remembers turned out to be a complicated question. the prosecution and defense struggled to piece together makuey's mother's testimony, partially because of a language barrier. >> i don't understand question. kim: the other issue, her modified memory. >> today, you testified that ngor was 7-years-old when he came to the united states. that was your testimony under oath today, wasn't it? >> yes. the first time you talked to us, that's not what you said. kim: prosecutors argued his age is important because that affects whether he remembers being exposed to violence while living in the refugee camp. his mother told the courtroom he lived at a group home at one point after getting involved with drugs and didn't have many friends because he would talk to himself. >> did it worry you that ngor talked to himself? >>
