this incident is one of nearly 900 shots fired calls in to the des moines police so far this year. that s up from last year s total of 848. and this year is not even over yet but police say calls for , service aren t true indicators of crime rates. police tell us they do use the calls to determine which neighborhoods need extra enforcement, especially during the summer months. we did hear police respond to another shots fired call overnight at 1217 fillmore street. that turned out to be shots fired at a home, one breaking a window. elizabeth: des moines police also respond to a lot of break-in and burglary calls. in fact every year there are , more than 2200 break-ins in des moines. in a special report last night on kcci 8 news at 10:00, our laura terrell found out it takes just 42 seconds for a burglar to get inside and get out with your valuables. but there are some ways to help keep yourself safe. conley security says it helps to have metal or solid wood doors on your home
