We have eaten some of the best food in a warm environment catered by people who care about other people, said dulfek rebos opened their doors yesterday for thanksgiving and served a multitude of people in the siouxland area, many of which have witnessed hard times. Volunteers waited and served the large number of people to make them feel welcomed and at home. Donations from weeks prior not only went to food, but to provide attendees with hats, gloves, and toiletry bags. There was lots of conversation and laughter. Countless number of people expressed their attitude for graditude. It is a breath of fresh air, you know. That we can sit with multiple races and have a meal with no one actually being mean to one another. I think that its a blessing all together, said i absolutely love this and i actually dont want to leave right now cause i can stay here and get another plate of food right now, which ive already done and ive just been having way too much fun, said dulfek. The thank yous came left and right to the volunteers and owner heather rees, she says the outpouring appreciation moved her and the total outcome was exactly what she anticipated. I knew that it would be an emotional day, but just Walking Around and talking to the families and seeing the kids. Its just really emotional, said rees. After battling an addiction to drugs and alcohol, he joined the program at Hope Ministries, designed to help people get their lives back on track. Terry gable, intake coordinator after turning my life over, it completely changed. It transformed my whole life for me and my family. Now, six years after first volunteering to work here, hes got a full time job. And when he sees more than 200 other people giving their time on this thanksgiving day, he knows firsthand how it can make a big difference. Terry gable, intake coordinator i came here and ate, myself, when i was running around the street, a lot, when i was living out of my car. Bob myers, volunteer you get a good enjoyment personally, but there is a need. We see it in our home town, we see it all around. Volunteers at Hope Ministries woke up early thursday to prepare and box hundreds of meals. Acy myers, volunteer they are so thankful, not only for the warm food, but the company, that people get dressed up and they come in. Its not your typical soup kitchen, its more than that. Bob myers, volunteer its kind of a fulfilling, satisfaction when you go out and help people, and theyre going up to you and youre kind of making their day, and they dont realize how much theyre actually making your day. Gabel knows its because of genuine love that hes back on his feet. Terry gable, intake coordinator a good, good hot meal, some encouragement and some encouraging words, that kind of thing can really change a persons perspective and outlook on life.
