"los angeles times" is reporting that before he ran for office if in 2003, he fathered a child with a member of his household staff. according to a statement he gave the paper, after leaving the governor's office, i told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. i understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. there are no excuses and i take full responsibility for the hurt i have caused. i have apologized to maria, my children and my family. i am truly sorry, end quote. the "times" reports that the woman worked for the schwarzenegger for 20 years, retiring just in january. only a weeking a, schwarzenegger and his wife, maria shriver, announced they had separated after 25 years of marriage. at that time, they said they were working on their marriage, carol. >> i just can't remember, casey, back in 2003, when schwarzenegger was running for governor when 16 women accused him of improper sexual behavior and there was maria shriver, his wife, standing by her man. >> you can listen to all the negativity or people that have listened to him for five seconds or you can listen to me. i advise you to listen to me. >> the statement he released today after these latest, this latest scandal came to light. it just rings hollow, even more hollow than it did before we remembered what happened back in 2003. >> clearly, a difficult time for maria shriver back then and clearly a difficult time now. it is just unimaginable. she lost both of her parents in the last year and a half or so since they have announced their accept pra separation last week. tabloid media is following her around. they got her in a nail salon and tried to question her children. she sent out a tweet a couple of days ago before this news about schwarzenegger's child came out. thank you for all the kindness, support and compassion. i am humbled by the love. thank you. >> so, clearly, appreciative of those who are supporting her but a very difficult time. now, for schwarzenegger, he has been still active after he left the governor's mansion. he has been giving speeches and working on issues like energy and he is trying to revive his movie career. interestingly enough, a website, schwarzenegger.com. i think we can bring that up. we have a picture. it says, stay tune for my next move. something tells me he was not referring to this. >> something tells me you are right, casey wian, live in los angeles. to the other powerful man making news. the head of the international monetary fund and poe terngs candidate for french president, waking up at rikers island, new york's large jail complex. he will spend the next few days alone in a cell after a judge denied him bail e . he is accused of sexually assaulting a maid in his hotel. evidently, according to the police, the maid went into his suite around noon, check-out time and less than half an hour later, at 12:28, he checked out. he was to meet his daughter for lunch at 12:45. at some point, he got into a car and headed for jfk airport for a plight to paris. at 3:30, he called the hotel to ask about a cell phone he could not find and board the air france jet at 4:00 p.m. about 40 minutes later, authorities took him off the plane. he was placed under arrest. the fact that he would have been in the air minutes later, the judge thought he was too much of a flight risk and needed to be in jail. sunny hostin is a contributor for "insession" and a former prosecutor. welcome. stras kaun strauss-kahn is supposed to be back in jail. what is the chance he will get out of rikers? >> there is a chance. i know his attorneys will be asking the new judge to revisit the bail conditions. i was surprised he was remanded without any bail. i knew they would take his passport, because he certainly was a flight risk, because he was yanked off of an air france flight on its way out of the country. i thought perhaps they would allow him to post bail, maybe $1 million, which is what his attorneys had requested. this judge felt, no, too much of a flight risk. this new judge may think the same thing. it is possible that he will be held without bail pending the trial of this matter. i think that would be unusual. certainly, it is possible, especially, carol, when you look at the charges that are being lodged against him. they are very, very significant. the top charge could land him in prison for 25 years. >> there is this talk going around that he had an alabi. he was going to have lunch with his daughter. the timeline doesn't match that, does it? >> it doesn't match that. there were some reports that he met with his daughter and didn't necessarily rush out on to a plane. he met with his daughter for lunch, called the hotel and said, i left my phone. however, his attorneys are saying that the defense will be consensual sexual acts. that is usually the case where there is a he said, she said going on. a lot of legal minds don't think that makes sense. we are talking about a maid in her 30s, an african immigrant, who did not know this man, who have a jury believe that they had some sort of consensual sexual encounter seems to be pushing it a little bit. >> sunny whohostin, many thanks. a bomb found in a box hours before queen elizabeth was due to visit the country. the bomb has been defused. security is extremely tight. zain verjee joins us live from london. what are police saying about this bomb? >> they are looking into it. the device basically was handed over to investigators and investigators are basically forensically assessing it to see if they can come up with any more information. this is a really worrying development. it is likely to continue over the next four days, because that's how long the queen is going to be there. you have something like 10,000 police and army security that have fanned out all over the city, air, land, and sea patrols as well, carol. it is a massive operation, the biggest security operation ever in the country. carol? >> just visit itself, by a british monarch, this hasn't happened since 1911. this is a big deal, right? >> it is absolutely huge. the last time that british monarch was in ireland was 1911. the queen's grandfather, george the v was there. that was a time where ireland was under british colonial rule. there was a lot of bad blood, a lot of hostility, a lot of suspicion. the irish were fighting for independence. the british put in their troops into northern ireland. it was really a bloody affair. now, this is a historic moment. let's take a look at what some of the newspapers are sig. the irish times has had headline. the day has come. queen elizabeth is welcome as a remarkable woman in her own right, it says, as a figure to whom a significant minority on this island give allegiance and above all as a symbol of the mutual affection and common interests. let's take a look at the age, carol. in australia, peace brings the queen to ireland. the queen's visit to ireland is seen by some as a provocation and requires a massive security operation. lastly. carol, she looked pretty good in green, i thought, today? >> a good color to wear to ireland. zain verjee, live in london. thank you. back here in the united states, republican candidates for president are dropping like flies. donald trump is out because -- we will leave that to you. mike huckabee is out and happy. he told politico, he has found an inex plik kabul inner peace, a peace that exceeds human understanding. others have no need for peace but political power. our senior political power, mark preston, is here. who benefits from these dropouts? >> a couple people. let's look at donald trump from the race. if you look at this cnn opinion research corporation poll, taken a few weeks ago, it shows that mitt romney would probably benefit the most. mitt romney is considered the front-runner in the race, always has been. trump had been eating away at his numbers a little bit. you talk about mike huckabee being out of the race. it doesn't necessarily show in this poll. with mike huckabee, who appealed to social conservatives, especially in states such as iowa and south carolina, with him leaving the race, expect a lot of social conservatives to start looking at michele bachmann, a congresswoman from minnesota and brick santorum, from pennsylvania and herman cane, a little-known businessman from kcalifornia. a former ceo of godfather's pizza. 10.25 million was an eye-popping number dropped on us. >> it is going to cause some folks to reconsider how they are going to run their campaigns. mitt romney announced he raised $10.25 billion in one day. he held a callathon out in las vegas. 800 people participated in it. perhaps the strategy behind it is to try to scare off the likes of mitch daniels, the indiana governor who is seriously considering running for president right now. perhaps if he sees a number like that, maybe mitch daniels might give it a second thought. the last shoe to drop is sarah palin. if she gets out of the race, everything will change again. carol? 800 people participated in it. perhaps the strategy behind it is to try to scare off the likes of mitch daniels, the indiana governor who is seriously considering running for president right now. perhaps if he sees a number like that, maybe mitch daniels might give it a second thought. the last shoe to drop is sarah palin. if she gets out of the race, everything will change again. carol?
