♪ developing right now philadelphia police say they've caught the man who stabbed his own wife and her one-year-old daughter. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. police pick up 41-year-old steven burton in maryland tonight. he is now being questioned by investigators. we do have team three coverage of this story. we begin with "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers at northwest detectives with the very latest. matt. >> reporter: natasha burton was taken into custody just a few hours ago. that after fleeing the scene of the crime shortly after it happened early this morning. this is steven burton the 41-year-old who according to police stabbed his wife 37-year-old danecia burton and their 21 month old daughter inside their west oak lane home sunday morning. police arrived around 12:30 a.m. and mother and daughter were transported to the hospital with multiple stab wounds shortly after that. police quickly identified their suspect and the vehicle he was likely driving and sent out that information to law enforcement agencies across the country. it was police in maryland that spotted burton driving over a bridge and he was taken into custody without incident. burton has ties to the community including as a youth football coach. on a facebook page for that team someone wrote please keep d and dezi in your prayers. and both mother and daughter remain in the hospital tonight. they are listed in critical but station condition. we're live outside of northwest detectives, matt rivers cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> marks thank you very much. the west oak lane community is still in shock tonight. we spoke with a neighbor who heard the screaming ran to help. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has her emotional story and we should warn you that the details are graphic and disturbing. >> reporter: sunday morning quiet on dallas street. one home in the glow of muted cartoons, now a crime scene hold as story of horror. >> god put me here for a reason. that's how i look at it because if i wasn't here she would have been dead. >> we asked this eyewitness to recall the worst thing she's ever seen. at the time the memory was just a few hours old. >> it's horrible. it's horrible. i don't know if ya'll went in there but there's blood every way and she was cut up when she told me check the baby that just like a whole different level. >> reporter: police say about 12:30 sunday morning a domestic dispute broke out at this home in the 1900 block of dallas street. inside, during the fight the 41-year-old man establishes his 37-year-old partner multiple times all over her body and her one-year-old daughter once in the chest. bold says she called police when she heard the fight and ran to the home when it sounded dire. she says her neighbor looked close to death. >> i grabbed some paper towels and just tried to stop all the bleeding from wherever it was coming. but as i was attending to her she told me don't worry about her, go check on her baby. >> reporter: bold says the man then darted out of the home to escape. she walked upstairs to fine the child. >> she turned around you see the little hole in her stomach it was to the point she -- every time she would cough or cry the blood would keep gushing and gushing out. >> page the group went tubing on their own and disappeared. new jersey state police is assisting in the search. stay with "eyewitness news" for any updates as details become available in this water search. developing bobbi kristina brown has passed away. back in january the daughter of the late whitney houston and singer bobby brown was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her atlanta area home. she spent months in the hospital before being moved to hospice care. her family issued a statement on her passing. it reads "bobbi kristina brown passed away july 26th 2015 surround beside her family. she is finally at peace in the arms of god. we want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months "bobby christina was 22 years old. turning now to our weather in the area, it looks like we're in for a hot and muggy start to the work week right now some storms are rolling through parts of the area as well. let's get right out to meteorologist justin drabick live on the cbs3 sky deck with the first look at the forecast tonight. justin. >> natasha yes any time you run into that hot you hide mid conditions you'll be dealing with storm chances starting to see that tonight as one cold front approaches the delaware valley and it will weaken as it moves through the region tomorrow. check out storm scan3 a couple of areas to watch right now. one particular up in the poconos poconos. carbon monroe county seeing heavy rainfall had strong thunderstorms earlier the good news it look like a lot of lightning strikes are diminishing but still the rain continues as this pushes off to the south and east. so it's moving into the northern lehigh valley so northern northampton county look out for heavy rainfall and then farther to the south and west we go into berk county just west of reading we have a strong thunderstorm to continues to track eastward. so that will impact the reading area probably within the next 15 minutes or so. already starting to see light rain develop. watch out for some heavy downpours with some of these showers and storms because there's lot of humidity which we're feeling right now and that's helping fuel these showers and thunderstorms and there already is a flash flood warning that is in effect up in carbon and monroe county in the poconos for those storms that rolled on through earlier this evening. picked up about two and three quarters of an inch of rainfall in about 45 minutes in some spots in the poconos. this goes until 2:00 a.m. of the be aware of that if you're traveling northward. item which are wise it's still warm. mid and up eighty three 70s. it's a south breeze that will pump in the heat and humidity so that's what we'll deal with as we head into the upcoming work week. talking slashing more than a dozen tires in queen village overnight. it happened on the eight hadn't dread block of swanson street. and the 100 block of queen street. a total of 18 tires were vandalized. some vehicles with more than one tire slashed. neighbors say this surprising for that area. >> it's the first time something like that happened in this neighborhood. i'm upset about it. my daughter was here overnight and her car wasn't touched. i feel badly for these people. >> right now police are using surveillance video yo from nearby homes to help in their investigation. in florida tonight a community is coming together to pray for two missing teenagers. the 14-year-olds were last seen on friday and today their capsized boat was found 60 miles off the coast of florida. cbs correspondent wendy gillette shows us family and friends are still holding out hope. >> reporter: hundreds gathered sunday evening in jupiter florida for a vigil to pray that perry cohen and austin did he fan notice are safe. 14-year-olds did not return from a fishing trip friday. they were last seen at this fueling station in jupiter. they bought more than $100 worth of fuel and may have been planning to head to the bahamas. isn't we'll do anything to get our children back. >> retired nfl great joe nemeth offered his help to fine the boys. he lives near perry and has known both teens for years. >> they're so fine these two young fellas. we just keep on praying man. it's hard. it's so hard. >> reporter: 19-foot single engine boat the boys were in was found capsized sunday. nearly 200 miles down the coast. the coast guard is altering its search plan based on the boat's location. as the boys were leaving friday, the weather had started to turn stormy. >> everybody was racing towards the inlet and i do remember seeing a small boat going out the inlet with a couple kids on it and saying to myself these kids are crazy. >> reporter: the teens were supposed to be fishing near their home. now dozens of private boats and planes are searching for them hundreds of miles from where they had told their parent they would stay. wendy gillette for cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> we've got new details tonight on how the louisiana theater gunman spent his final hours. this surveillance video shows 59-year-old john houser leaving a motel in lafayette less than an hour before he opened fire killing two people and injuring nine others before finally turning the gun on himself. one witness recalls the traumatizing moment inside the theater. >> 10 rounds went off when i realized, you know, sixth or seventh round i dropped and i'm looking at him and i'm like because i know guns i said he's reloading i screamed to everybody, he's reloading, get the hell out of here now! >> well authorities are still investigating a motive meantime today the community couldn't to do mourn the loss of the victims during very emotional services. funerals will be held tomorrow for the two women killed. president obama arrived in evening chrome ya today all part of his five-day tore of africa. earlier today the president wrapped up his trip to kenya delivering a speech to thousands of kenyans. obama in west virginia. a woman kills a man inside her home tonight the woman is free and police believe the man she shot may have been a serial killer. cbs correspondent mark albert walks us through the twists and turns of this very strange case. >> reporter: police say 45-year-old neal falls was answering an online ad for escort when he showed up to this charleston, west virginia home. this woman heather who doesn't want her last name used answered the door. they says falls armed with this gun asked her live or die? and then started choking her. >> when he strangled me, um, he just wouldn't let me get any air, and so i grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands i shot him. i just grabbed the gun and shot behind me. >> heather ran out of the house and flagged down neighbor who called 911. >> inside falls' car detectives found a machete axes, knives a shovel an sledgehammer, bleach, plastic trash bags, a bullet proof vest and four sets of handcuffs. now police are investigating whether he could be connected to the murder or disappearance of nine women across three states. ohio illinois and nevada. evidence found with dismembered bodies outside of las vegas were falls used to live is similar to an item found in her car and all the women were escorts most of whom advertised online. steve cooper is with charleston police. >> it's likely that mr. falls is a serial killer. i believe she saved lives by shooting mr. falls based and what did he to her and based on the items that were found in his car. >> reporter: police are not charging heather for the shooting which they say was in self defense. >> i knew he was there to kill me. >> well that was correspondent mark albert reporting. authorities will enter falls dna no a national database. checked for any links to other crimes. falls was found with a list of names ages and phone numbers of at least 10 other women all are still alive. and drama video scene here of a hiker being rescued by a helicopter in california. the 22-year-old got separated from his friends and had trouble walking after a knee injury. he was first reported missing friday night and the helicopter cruise spotted him using night vision goggles and an infrared camera. however he cannot be rescued until the neck day due to the terrain making it very difficult to land. wow i'm glad they finally got to him. justin you've got details on a hot forecast for the week. >> mid july last week of july. >> you telling me it's the norm right. >> pretty much. >> forget the last few days or so. >> we'll ease into it. it's not quite hot yet tomorrow. you'll notice the increase in humidity we're already feeling that outside right now, and the shore that will be a good place tell you in the couple of days. tuesday, wednesday and thursday the worst of it one place to be near the owing where it will ab little bit cooler there. check out the bore walk life look at ocean city starting to thin out now as we move into the late evening hours. as we wrap up the weekend but overall still comfortable conditions in south jersey. we are track something showers and storms now with increaseed humidity there is a weak cold aware of travel up there. jim thorpe seeing another thunderstorm rolling through region right now. out in berks county western part of the county seeing a thunderstorm just moving out of the topahocken avenue. over berneville right now. 422, route 61 will see heavy rain right around reading area 10 to 15 minutes or so much things should quiet down through the overnight and then refire again tomorrow afternoon. there's that flash flood warning for parts of carbon and monroe county that goes until 2:00 a.m. and water out for heavy rain traveling into area. flood advisory issued for northern northampton county the storms are exiting the poconos moving to the south and east. we are heating up this week. 87 is our average high high. upper 80s tomorrow much close to average we'll zoo heat wave developing starting tuesday. low 90s. and then the mid 90s should top off on thursday that's our hottest day of week and when you factor in the humidity, may feel like 100 degrees. speaking of humidity we look at the dew point temperature that measures how much moisture is in the air right now it's at 67. yesterday these dew points were in the low 50s that gives i was gauge of what we're dealing with. right now 65-degree dew point is on the steamy side. so it will continue to increase. so the humidity through the week it just gets worse each day call it steamy monday and tuesday. then oppressive for wednesday and thursday and finally by friday that humidity backs off a little bit. here's that front that's triggering the showers right now comes across our region for monday. so afternoon scattered shower or storm is possible. don't cancel the outdoor plans. keep in mind you may run into a thunderstorm in some spots. tuesday we're back to dry conditions. hot and humid lower 90s 90s wednesday same story high pressure over us keeps things nice and quiet. here's our rain chances 40% for monday. zero for tuesday and wednesday much we're back up to 40% on thursday as another cold front moves through. through the overnight hours you may run into a shower or storm. things quiet down for the morning commute. i think we're looking okay afternoon there's spotty showers showers. monday night clear thing out again back to sunshine for tuesday afternoon. so forecast overnight again watch out for heavy downpours in some spots with a thunderstorm. 72 for center city. some 60s in the suburbs. a warm day monday. some sunshine watch out for the afternoon shower or storm. 88 degrees for the high temperature. at the shore most of the day should stay dry. late in the day we can influence a thunderstorm. 81 for the air temperature ocean looking nice at 78. watch out for moderate threat for rich currents. 91 on tuesday. 93 wednesday. 95 degrees thursday. then late thursday some showers and storms. that brings some relief into the humidity on fry day. still warm pushing 90 heading into next weekend. as we head into august already. >> insufferable. >> we're record. jeremy telford created the world world' largest balloon animal weiner dog lying on its side but if it could stand up it could be 32 feet tall. yikes! so how many balloons did it tike create
