Today marks 18 years since the terrorist attacks killed nearly 3000 people. This is one of the first moments of silence this morning. President trump and first lady milani a place hands over their hearts as taps played at the moment of silence happen on the south while south lawn of the white house. Now, the president and first lady are at the pentagon and they will let a wreath at a memorial there in a moment of silence will be held there too. Just this year, the Victims Compensation fund was extended for decades. There have been many deaths in several illnesses as many 9 11 First Responders suffer from cancer and respiratory diseases. They are also honoring those who died and helped save lives. That includes a ceremony in San Francisco for the annual flag raising ceremony. We were there this morning. The mayor joined other city leaders and First Responders. There at the third street fire station. This is what happened. All of the firefighters around, 343 firefighters were killed on 9 11. There will also be a ceremony at Oak Hills Park in danville. The event begins at 530 tonight. The fbi special agent who investigated the trade center attack will be here and many for today will pack meals for those in need. The first ever Homeless Navigation Center will be built next to city hall. Have they finalized the location and the unanimous vote . Reporter yes. A unanimous vote came just before midnight last night. Homelessness in the city of fremont has increased by 21 in the last two years. City leaders have argued that a Navigation Center like this is needed to help with that problem, that is one part of the solution of the problem. The slot that youre looking at is where the center would eventually go. There hoping to open it by the middle of next year. It is an idea that many residents are not happy about and were not happy about last night. Hundreds of people showed up Holding Signs and expressing Firm Opposition to the 2 million project here can relate vote last night after a long contentious meeting, the Council Voted unanimously, 70 to approve the shelter in this location right next to city hall. The city had also considered building it at another location near dakota road. We heard the input from the community. Based off of that information, we decided to make the motion to move it to city hall. They just totally ignored our concerns, and theyre going to do this expensive experiment. It is not acceptable. Not everyone was opposed to. Fremont police chief tried to eliminated some community sneers by pointing out that a similar shelter in berkeley, there is been no uptake in crime in recent years on the fremont shelter is modeled after that one. You can see from the signs at that meeting that they read no Homeless Navigation Center or recall. We will be checking with some of the people from that Opposition Group to find out what the next steps are. Will they be pursuing some sort of recall. There are about two dozen structures built out of wooden pallets being used to shelter. The city says there are fire dangers. Homeless advocates say that people who live in those encampments have no place else to go. Earlier this year, they show the number of homeless rose almost 50 since 2017. The Trip Administration is considering a sweep of Homeless People in california. According to the washington post, officials want to round up People Living on the streets and move them to unspecified government facilities. And ministration officials are meeting in Southern California this week. To San Francisco mayor says if the president is serious about addressing homelessness and is willing to look for viable long term solutions, he would welcome federal aid. The decline in the amount of federal resources for Affordable Housing in San Francisco and in california in general has been significant. So the need is great. Fire crews are out there sitting fire breaks to keep the flames from spreading. So far, no one has been hurt, and no buildings have been destroyed. A brush prior burned right up to some homes yesterday afternoon near highway 37 in the black point neighborhood. People who live in the area were told to evacuate. Crews from a number of agencies fought the fire. Residents told us they were relieved to see firefighters attacking the flames from both the ground and the air. I think that it is also important to remember the acts of heroism amongst members of the police and Fire Department in new york and how they ran towards the danger to save and protect lives. There wouldve been many more lives lost had it not been for their bravery. It is important that we remember that we never forget. That we, on today, september 11th, honor the ultimate sacrifice is 70 people made. Lets move to some news from just this morning. To big San Francisco Companies Say the city can keep money no matter the reports of a challenge from the opposition. Are you calling on the same other companies to make the same move . The fact is that the legislation that occurred, i put forward in order to allow companies to do justice. We have been reaching out to a number of companies to ask if there was interest. These are the two companies that stepped up. We are asking all companies to do this. A court case is going to last for many years. In the meantime, we still need to collect the money, regardless of the outcome. We want those who cant afford to provide these resources now to do so because we have a crisis now, and we need the resources to address it. Many people say that bit tech and high salaries are to blame for the homeless crisis in your city. Are big tech openings doing enough to help the people in San Francisco . I think that there are a number of factors to blame. There is not one entity to blame. I do think that Tech Companies can do a lot more than they have been to support and invest in San Francisco, not just for challenges around homelessness, but making sure that services and support and resources are provided for plate are provided for places all over San Francisco, especially in our low income communities. The with our existing clean tower clean power program, we still work with pg e for distribution of power, this is an opportunity for us to control our own Power Systems of the weekend truly have public power and operate it directly ourselves.
