rain is moving in. still up into lake county and parts of mendocino county. not as much. there is a back end as to what has been moving through. the most rain far and above has been up there. back over to petaluma and bodega bay and napa, light rain moving in. san pablo play, hercules, a little out to eastern solano county and moving through san francisco and a little on the pence l you see a little moving on shore there over to san mateo and milbrae. after that, there's not a lot but a little bit for the east bay. probably not a lot for the south bay. there is a lot of 50s in the mix some people are observing veterans day today. some schools are not in. that is making it easier. on northbound 101, there was a crash. traffic on the east shore freeway is not slow as well. for it to be a 19-minute drive from the carquinez bridge to the maze means your drive from vallejo to san francisco is taking maybe 40 minutes, maybe a little less because the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza is 15 and another 20 on the east shore. yesterday it was about an hour and a half. today it is about 40 minutes, about half the time. 7:03. let's go back to the desk. bulldozers are clearing the loss in sonoma and napa counties that were once the homes of many people. the second phase of clean-up launched this week in the coffey park neighborhood. they have removed hazardous waste. and now heavy equipment is moving in. a spokesman for the army corps of engineer say that soil will be tested for contaminants such as asbestos. some 40,000 people packed at&t park last night tore the band electrical wiring may have caused the tubbs fire, the most destructive of the bay area wildfires. they filed legal papers saying that it was started by electrical company owned by what pg&e call a third party. there will be a distinct cause for each of the different fires. tomorrow is veterans day. president trump paid tribute by meeting with a group of american veterans in vietnam. he called them great warriors and a national treasure. he says he is committed to recovering the 200 american who's are still listed as missing in action from the vietnam war. but the associated press news agency is disputing the president's claims that his administration has taken big strides in fixing the department of veterans affairs. the white house issues a two- page memo declaring in a short period of time tremendous progress has been made in providing health care to veterans. but the ap says that the administration's efforts are falling short. trying to revamp the medical records system may not be complete for another eight years. more than 470,000 veterans from filed appeals demanding higher disability compensation. the associated press says a measure that the president signed into law to reduce processing delays will not help the half million veterans. president trump is pushing the america first agenda in vietnam. he talked about taking the u.s. out of the transpacific partnership which he called a bad deal. he also promoted his america first policy and encouraged other countries to put their own countries first. >> we are not going to let the united states be taken advantage of anymore. i am always going to put america first. the same way that i expect all of you in this room to put your countries first. s fi now, president trump's advise tout vietnam is part of a five-country tour of asia. earlier he stopped in japan, south korea and china. commissioners at the port of oakland has approved a $52 million expansion project that will give oakland the largest distribution facility on the west coast. christien kafton tells us what this means to oakland and local workers. >> reporter: the port is saying the newly approved logistics center will usher in a new era at the report. the agreement allows the port to develop the logistics facility on property that was once an army base. it will handle the transfer of cargo between ships, trucks and trains and expand the facility to 180 acres, taking up a significant portion of the old army base and include a new distribution center. workers hope this bodes well for local labor. the port is promising to hire local workers. they will vote again on november 30th. construction on the 440,000 square foot facility could begin as early as spring of 2018, just around the corner. in oakland, christien in the u.s. senate. >> reporter: the "washington post" reports that four women have come forward describing moore's conduct and proposition back in his early 30s. the women ranged in age from 14 to 18 at the time. moore called the story false ask desperate tweeting the liberal media lap dogs just unleashed the most vicious attacks that i have ever faced. the white house says these are just allegations. >> the president believes if the allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside. >> reporter: but if the allegations cost moore the senate seat in a december 12th special election, it will put republicans in congress in a bind, leaving every vote they must muster to pass tax reform before the end of the year. >> i didn't see him that way. >> reporter: others are not convinced. >> i don't believe that roy moore would do that. >> reporter: most recent polls have given moore a good edge over doug jones but that could all change. from washington, doug luzader, fox news. there have been 31 complaints of sexual harassment since 2006. last month 140 women signed a letter in the l.a. times to bring attention to what they call a pervasive culture of harassment at the state capitol. the senate and assembly haven't said how many resulted in disciplinary action. sal has been watching the commute. it has been relatively okay. >> it sure has. we have alto there was an earlier accident. northbound 101 right at embarcadero. traffic will be a little slow northbound. southbound unaffected. look at the bridges. san mateo and dumbarton bridge looks good and so does the 80 freeway. still slowing approaching the richmond san rafael bridge this morning. but 19 men's for -- for it to take 19 minutes to drive from the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze, that's a very good time. and another 15 at the toll plaza. 7:14. let's bring in steve with today's weather. >> all right, sal. there is rain out there. fog as well. you will just have to trust us. this is from our san rafael camera. some of the fog has been moving through marin county and up north, mendocino and over to napa, lake county and a little bit from the city to the peninsula. not a lot. just a little bit. it looks like something that i would show you in late november, early december. it is cold. minneapolis, 15. chicago made it down to 19. now they're warming up to 22. st. louis at 28. omaha, 22. oklahoma city, 44. that is cold. new york, 39. that cold blast is heading to the northeast for a very cold weekend. it is snowing in chicago and it is the lake effect snow. so if you have travel plans there, i would bundle up. because they are getting some snow and very cold temps throughout the great lakes, northern plains and over to the northeast. we have rain. it is not cold. but the last rain was up into mendocino county. almost an inch of rain. the russian river had half an inch. some areas picked up good rain. alexander valley, a third of an inch. a third towards forristville. north santa rosa, a quarter enter of an inch. mount tam has picked up a third of that. san jose, .06. kent field a third of an inch. bodega bay, i have seen anywhere from .11 to a quarter of an inch depending on location. i went with the lighter amount because that seems to go with most locations. some rain is moving through lake county, clearlake, lake port to middle town, back over to cloverdale. the line up to ukiah looks like it will weaken a little bit. you are getting a break there. same can be said for parts of the russian river. there is a back edge. occidental and guerneville. you can see some of that light but still there. some has moved through parts of san francisco. san mateo coast as well. not a lot south of half moon bay. what is there would be very light. sfo had light rain. eastward, you don't find much. generally very light. most of the rain would be this morning. the system will start to push by by the noon hour. after that, mostly rain out of the picture. watch out for fog though late tonight and tomorrow. rain again not much. favors areas north of the golden gate. not a lot to the south. a break tuesday. wednesday night and thursday could be a good system. widespread rain might make it there. we have six days to iron that out. a lot of 50s. the breeze has moved along. east/southeast out of the south. some of the higher elevations, a good breeze. not much of a difference in the temps. no advisories for snow. there is an advisory for wind. a lake wind advisory is out on lake tahoe. gusts of 30 plus. all associated with this system up here. that low funneling in the moisture. you can see -- by the time it moves inland, it will take a lot of the moisture above us and get it out of the picture. it pushes out of the area. cloudy and mostly cloudy and light rain. mostly cloudy skies. 60s for the temps. everybody very close. areas of fog, once we clear out, tomorrow morning could be a big issue for some in the realtors reports there are 282 homes with that price point in contra costa county. 96 in alameda. just three homes in santa clara valley. and not a single home under $500,000 for sale in san francisco not. it is kind of -- it will work its way through. >> no doubt about it. there are some areas getting decent rain from marin county northward. there's a lot of fog that has filled in. that wasn't there about an hour ago. the front is making its move here. the low clouds have filled in. the system is moving into the north. that is dragging in a lot of this moisture. but it will push it east and southeast. i think by late morning, early afternoon. cassdero is up to .88 of an inch. forestville, almost half an inch. saint rosa, .39. geyserville, .13. san jose, .06 in the last 24 hours. still moving through parts of lake county. it looks like it is moving. clearlake, hidden valley lake. things look to be calming down as the system moves through. from windsor, rohnart park. napa county and also the east bay. coming over san pablo bay over to eastern solano county and over the golden gate bridge we're getting rain as well. into san francisco. a little bit on the peninsula. that is heading into oakland as well and probably parts of the east bay soon. that seems to about the line. half moon bay north. there is not a lot to the south of that. the line will continue to give us rain for the morning. we're getting a pretty good east/southeast breeze. that is picking up and will turn northwest later on. there is the band moving through by noon. that system drives it out of the we've had a slightly lighter than usual commute. some of the main points like the bay bridge toll plaza you can still see slow traffic here at the toll plaza. in fact it looks like a normal day. i'll tell you something, when i look at this picture, i see something that makes me optimistic about later in the morning. you see that right there usually it is jam packed. this morning, it is not. that means we're going to have just a slightly better than usual day. this is 880 northbound and southbound. this traffic is looking good. nothing slightly about this. normally we have a bunch of slow traffic right through here. i don't see any right now. it is a little slow in fremont. that's about it. that means we're having a slightly better day. south bay, that looks like holiday traffic. 7:32. back to the desk. a few hours ago a car slammed into a in cupertino. >> it destroyed the living room of the house and part of the foundation. tara moriarty, you're there. you've been out there for a while. and you talked to the people who live there. good morning. >> reporter: that's -- good morning. yeah. that's right. we don't know exactly how fast this driver was going. but we do know that he was headed eastbound in this direction here on bolinger road when he drifted into on coming lanes of traffic and went through these two holes that you see right here, drifting across the lawn where there are? skid marks, by the way, and slammed into the house, creating a gaping hole in the foundation. this is video of the white car that smashed into the living room with glass and wood chunks everywhere. the family says the house shook and there was a loud bang around 4:00 this morning. their daughter woke up and ran downstairs with her grandmother where they saw the destruction. >> we ran downstairs and then we saw the wall was just like busted. then we went out. we tried to see, like, what -- like, what made the damage. we saw a white car. >> reporter: now, luckily no one inside was hurt. santa clara county sheriff's deputies say the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel as he was coming home from work. but he did suffer some minor injuries. we have learned that he did not have car insurance. now back here live, the family who rents the home are depending on their landlord and homeowners insurance to cover the repairs. you can see how extensive the damage is. there is a coffee table over to the right. that was in front of the window before the crash. and there are deep cracks up the wall. some of the pipes have been busted. so the water has been cut off. so this time is now 7:34. no charges were filed against one man who was arrested after monday's fatal shooting of a concord high school student. the 20-year-old of concord was officially charged with murder for the killing of jansen near olympic high school. no charges are being filed against a second suspect in the case. now he was accused of hiding the gun. three juveniles were also detained. police say the suspects targeted lawrence jansen but so far we don't know of a motive. a football coach at santa rosa junior college is facing murder charges after a car crash that killed a sonoma state student. authorities say this man is suspected of driving under the influence. he was near petaluma sunday night when his car went over the double yellow line and hit head on with another car. 21-year-old paulette of oakley died at the scene. three other drivers were involved but not seriously hurt. the suspect has a previous drunk driving conviction and due to appear in court next week. the defense rested its case in the murder trial of jose ynez garcia zarate who is accused in the fatal shooting of kate steinle. she was killed two years ago while walking along pier 14 with her father. an expert was called who determined the accuracy of the police enter gas station of jose ynez garcia zarate. they say that he intentionally fired the gun but the defense says it was an accident. closing arguments are set for november 20th. then the jury will decide if jose ynez garcia zarate should be convicted of second degree murder. the time is 7:36. san mateo county prosecutors charged a 71-year-old man in the killing of a 19-year-old woman in daly city 41 years ago. now, this challenges a theory that one person killed five young women on the peninsula during a five-month span in 1976. it was called the gypsy hill killings. yesterday, prosecutors announced dna evidence tied leon seymore. he was already in a mental hospital. an oakland police officer has been cleared of any wrong doing in a sexual misconduct case. former officer ryan walterhouse had been facing a misdemeanor count of engaging in an act of prostitution. yesterday a judge dismissed the last of three charges. there was not enough evidence that a 21-year-old prostitute was involved. the accusations against walterhouse came at a time that oakland police department was facing a sex scandal. the fbi wants to examine the cell phone of the gunman in the texas church massacre as part of its investigation into the shooting that killed 26 people. in a news conference earlier this week, the fbi refused to identify the make and model of that phone but said they can't unlock it. apple, however, says it is an iphone and the company immediately reached out to the fbi and offered help. we're also learning that the shooter's iphone could have been unlocked with his thumb print. if officials had done so within 48 hours of his death. that thumb print function stops working after 48 hours. after that, the user is required to enter their pass code to get into that device. the california public utilities commission took steps yesterday to protect people who were impacted by the fires in the north bay. during its meeting in san francisco, the state puc approved a series of consumer protections. utility companies that provide power, water or phone service won't be allowed to charge deposits to establish service for customers whose homes were destroyed or lost their jobs. the resolution approved bar utilities to disconnect service for fire victim that's can't make their payments. >> some people will have to move four or five times before they find a permanent residence again. this will make sure that they're not required to pay deposits four or five times. they won't have to pay deposits any time at all. this resolution provides real relief, real cost savings to people who need it the most, people who lost everything in the wildfires. >> that's mark tony with the utility reform network. he pushed for the protections as did his group. he says the rest us will have to pay more but the new rules are likely to benefit tens of thousands of people. in washington, house republicans were able to push their tax reform legislation through a key chitty. the house ways and means committee voted 24-16 along party lines to send that complex tax bill to the full house. republicans say the almost 6 trillion dollar measure will help the middle class. democrats say wealthy americans are the ones that will really be helped. senate republicans released their own plan. it includes 7 tax brackets compared to four in the house bill. it also fully repels the state and local tax deduction. it would delay cutting the corporate tax rate from 35 to 20% until the year 2019. and it maintains a provision to allow people to write off medical expenses that exceed a certain amount of their income. now, the release of a senate bill sets the stage of a tug of war between the house and senate overcome peteing priorities. donna brazile, the former democratic national chairman, spoke in san francisco last night and answered questions about her controversial book regarding the 2016 election. >> this book is a warning about what we should be doing to prepare for in the future. >> her book is titled hacks. it is an insider account of her time as chair of the dnc during last year's election. she told the people about her meeting with the fbi after agents confirmed the dnc e- mails had been hacked by russians. >> i wanted to write the story because i believe it is a warning to all americans that we have to protect our democracy. what you didn't know was that they corrupted our data. what you didn't know is that they got into our voter files. >> donna brazile's book raised criticism over hillary clinton and the dnc. she said it wasn't rigged but object today a plan that would pay off the dnc debt for running the operations before clinton was the official in a moment. this is 880 north and southbound. a big indicator of what kind of day it is today. look at highway 4. i'm looking everywhere. is there any slow traffic anywhere on highway 4? there is washington, d.c., new york and boston over the weekend. with a pretty cold blast for early in the season. chicago is getting the classic lake effect snow coming in off of lake michigan. you can see it near lake shore drive. there could be multiple inches over at o'hare there might be flurries. that's what they're dealing with, along with very cold air. our system is moving through right now. the tropical connection is pushing off. kent field, a half an inch of rain. novato, .12. and redwood city with a .07. by far and away the most is to the north. most of the rain is in the morning. it will be decreasing by the evening. lake county up to middle town, hidden valley lake, clearlake, over to cobb, it is winding down. still some. quieter towards mendocino county. they had the bulk in the last 24 hours. santa rosa, glenn helen and also sonoma and now st. helena to american canyon some is moving through. same for hercules, vallejo, lafayette a little bit. same for san francisco over to berkeley and emryville. heading over towards the east bay. ask then a little bit on the peninsula. and then burlingame, sfo, light amounts there. redwood city as well. a little towards concord and walnut creek right now. what goes east doesn't give us much rain. this is a weak system unless you're north of the golden gate, it will be good. monday it looks like a similar track with the bulk to the north. 50s on the temps to 60 at sfo. we're getting a good east/southeast breeze. this is a mild direction, front direction. the sera does not have to worry about snow advisories but they have a after some undocumented immigrants were rounded up recently. asian support groups told the mercury news that immigrants are especially scared they will be detained and then deported. last month, federal immigration agents tracked down more than 200 vietnamese and combodian immigrants around the country. undocumented immigrants are worried about possibly splitting up their families if some of their family members are deported. well, a deal on immigration may be coming on capitol hill. republican lawmakers say they're drafting a compromised bill that would allow 800,000 dreamers to stay here in the u.s. the lawmakers say the push to protect people in the daca program from being deported may soon pass in the house, with several republicans willing to back democrats on the bill. but it may be hard to get house speaker paul ryan's support. he says the new dreamers law should stand on its own and not be lumped as part of the bigger government spending bill. >> i think it should be considered separately. discussions are underway how the daca solution should occur. i don't think we should put artificial deadlines before the ones that we have. >> it provided protection for children that were brought into the country illegally. the time is 7:51. there is a new development about the battle between a young undocumented immigrant and the trump administration. 23-year-old juan manuel montes was the first daca recipient deported back to mexico under the president's immigration crackdown. he then sued the administration but later dropped his lawsuit. but montes was arrested this week for scaling a fence and trying to cross the border, getting into the u.s. illegally. now, that is a felony under federal law. it is punishable by a fine and up to two years in mom, a school teacher from santa rosa, who survived with her children, says she is grateful. >> i think we have gained more than we have lost. our time together as a family, when we were in the hotel starting to clear lots in sonoma and napa counties where homes once stood. the second phase of cleanup launched this past week in coffey park neighborhood. the epa has wrapped up most of its work of removing hazardous waste and heavy equipment is moving in. soil samples will be tested for contaminants such as asbestos and agencies also are sampling the air and water runoff. missing pets from the north bay fires are still being found by animal services. ten more pets without identification tags were found just this week. sonoma county animal services says it is caring for more than 100 animals related to the fire. a group of volunteers have set up a facebook page with a photo gallery that you can check to find missing pets. the time is 8:07. tomorrow is veterans day. president trump paid tribute by meeting with american veterans in vietnam. he called them great warriors and a national treasure. the associated press news agency is disputing the president's claims that his administration has taken big strides in fixing the department of veterans affairs. the white house issued a two- page memo this week declaring in a short period of time, tremendous progress was made in areas such as providing health care to veterans. the ap says its analysis shows the administration's efforts are falling short. the white house effort to speed up wait times by revamping the electronic medical records system may not be completed for another eight years. more than 470,000 veterans have filed appeals demanding higher disability compensation. the association says the measure that was signed into law by the president that reduces processing laws will not help the half million veterans. president trump is promoting his america first agenda in vietnam. he addressed other leaders and talked about taking the u.s. out of the transpacific partnership, one that he has called a bad deal. he also promoted his america first policy and encouraged other countries to put their own countries first. in just a few hours of a restaurant will open its doors to veterans and first respond hes from the north bay wildfires. we saw that blow torch a minute ago. i know that christien sexual misconduct allegations against republican alabama senate candidate roy moore. the white house says that they think moore will step aside if the accusations are true. at age 32 moore had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. three other women also told the newspaper that moore pursued them when they were teenagers. moore who is now 70 years old denies the report. both republican and democratic lawmakers say he should step aside if the accusations are true. >> it is a devastating nasty story. if the revelation -- if that is true, i don't believe there would be anyplace for him in the u.s. senate. >> the allegations against roy moore are disgusting and deeply troubling. if true, he should step aside immediately. >> moore is currently campaigning to fill the senate seat left new report says the california legislature has investigated 31 complaints of sexual harassment since 2006. the l.a. times says the numbers were released in response to a public records request. last think you're going to notice a big difference in the commute. 20-minute drive. it really hasn't gotten more than that. sometimes we look at this number here and we have a number of 60 or 70 minutes. like yesterday. today, it is much better. at the bay bridge toll plaza we're beginning to lighten up. it is a federal and state holiday in on beer of veterans day. traffic is showing signs of being lighter than usual. there are congested spots but things are definitely lighter. look at highway 4. normally we have a lot of slow traffic on most days here. from antioch to concord, it looks good. concord into san ramon, a nice looking drive. at 8:17, steve, in my traffic pictures, i noticed a little bit of rain. >> not a lot but a little bit. from marin county northward there have been dessert amounts. our system is moving through. a lot of cloud cover and fog inform the south. just not much precip. that seems to be the pattern that we're stuck in. first of all, nationally it is cold. i mean, this is a pattern that we haven't seen in a while here. the cold has arrived early for many. chicago was down to 19. they're 20 now. new york at 38. that plunge of cold air is heading to the northeast if you have travel plans over the weekend. it is all lake effect snow as well for chicago and some areas you can see coming in off of lake michigan there is the flow. it can produce moderate to heavy rain near the lake. hardly any inland. if you're traveling there, it is a hint of winter already. we have our system moving through. rainfall amounts, heaviest amounts about the russian river northward and into parts of helped sin owe counsel -- mendocino county. forestville, half an inch. windsor, quarter of an inch. point reyes, .12. most of the rain as far as the focus goes will be in the morning until 8:00, 10:00. by noon, we will see this moving off as the low kicks in to the north. then decreasing. it looks like it is decreasing in lake county. still from clearlake over to hidden valley lake. still a little bit. it looks like we are almost done with that. stretching from the russian river, petaluma, back over to st. helena, napa and also sonoma and glenn helen. moving eastward as well. contra costa county, not much but light rain in there. same can be said for oakland and parts of moraga and danville. again, walnut creek, not a lot to this system. same can be said for the peninsula, back over to parts of san francisco and the san mateo coast. that looks to be the line. south of that, i don't think there is much. this is mainly for the next hour or so. 50s on the temps. then it clears out. sierra nevada doesn't have to worry about snow. gusting up to 30 on the lake and 60 in higher elevations. that is a bigger concern than precip if you're heading up there. the system will give us off and on rain through the morning hours. then it will push inland to carry this out of the picture. later this afternoon, things will calm down. partly cloudy to realtor lowe says that home buyers used to be able to find a house for $500,000 in east san jose. it is not 2015 anymore. >> in this particular area, you will find listings in the $600,000. it has definitely gone up. >> reporter: like this 1400 square foot home near king and story just went on the market for $690,000, more than twice the amount it sold for in 2000. >> in my 321 years of being a real estate broker, supply and demand, more than any other single issue, has affected the price of properties throughout the 30-plus years that i have been doing this. >> reporter: san mateo county has zero listings in the $500,000 range. santa clara county has three. alameda county has # 6. and contra costa county has 282, including this 1200 square foot martinez home listed at $499,000. this is one of only three listings in santa clara county in the $500,000 range. it is listed at $525,000. one bedroom, one bath, 440 square feet and said to need major repairs. it has been on the market for slightly half a million dollars. newly released numbers show in santa clara county last month, the median price of a single- family home sold was $1,220,000, up 17% from a year ago. >> if you're cupertino family got a rude awakening this morning when a car slammed into their home, destroying their living room and part of the home's foundation. tara moriarty is there. she talked with the family. so amazing that no one was hurt here, tara. >> reporter: yeah. that was some -- some lucky -- have good news, definitely. now, we don't know how fast the driver of this car was going. the speed limit behind me is 25 miles per hour. but based on the impact, i would say he was going a lot faster than that. the car was headed eastbound but careened through the two poles right here, drifting across this lawn, and then barreling into this house. merit took cell phone video of the white car that smashed into his living room spending glass, mud and wood flying. there was a loud noise and the house shook-up stairs where everyone was sleeping at about 4:00 this morning. merit's daughter sharon was jilted awake by the accident. >> i heard a big bang. me and my grandmother, we just ran oust the room. we were banging on my brothers' door. they were not awake. we went downstairs and we saw the wall was just like busted. so then we went out. we tried to see like what -- like what made the damage. >> reporter: luckily no one inside was hurt. santa clara county sheriff's deputies say the driver fell asleep at the wheel when coming home from work. he suffered minor injuries. we have learned that he did not have car insurance. so the family who rent this home are really depending on their landlord and the homeowners insurance to cover the cost of repairs. you can see how extensive the damage is here. a coffee table was in front of the window-the crash. you can see it is moved over into the middle of the room. there's a gaping hole in the foundation, with deep cracks on the wall. some of the pipes are busted. so the water has actually been turned off. but the family says it will rough it out for a while but it is thankful that everyone is okay. live from teenagers on patio court jogging and walking down the street after two homes were burglarized. this is from security cameras from several homes in the area. >> it kind of looks like they were trick-or-treating during the day. four on one side of the street and three and one had a bag. >> once inside both homes, they did a good job of ransacking and taking personal items. >> if you have information about the teenagers seen in the video, call campbell police. no charges were filed against one man arrested after monday's fatal shooting of a concord high school student. he was officially charged with murder yesterday for the killing of lawrence jensen near olympic high school. no charges are being filed against a second man in the case, 18-year-old brian. he was accused of hiding the gun. three juveniles have also been detained. police say the suspects targeted jansen but we do not know a motive from police yet. a football coach at santa rosa junior college is facing murder charges after a car crash that killed a sonoma state student. authorities say he is suspected of driving under the influence. he was near petaluma sunday night when his car crossed the double yellow line and hit another car head on. 21-year-old paulette from oakley died at the scene. three other drivers were involved in the crash. they were not seriously hurt. the suspect does have a previous drunk driving conviction. he is set to appear in court next week. the fbi wants to examine the cell phone of the gunman in the texas shoot massacre as part of the investigation into the shooting that killed 26 people. in a news conference earlier this week, the fbi refused to identify the make and model of the phone but did say they couldn't unlock it on their own. apple however says another company's electrical wiring may have caused the deadliest most destructive of the wildfires last month in the north bay. pg&e filed papers saying the fire may have been caused by electrical company by what pg&e calls a third party. the legal filing is part of pg&e's response to several fire related lawsuits. the utility also made a point of saying there will be a distinct cause for each of the different fires. the california public utilities commission took steps yesterday to protect people who were impacted by the fires during the meeting in san francisco. the state puc approved a series of protections. they won't be allowed to charge deposits to establish service for customers whose homes were destroyed or who lost their jobs. the resolutions bar utilities from disconnecting service for fire victims who can't make their payments. commissioners have approved a $52 million expansion project. they gave initial approval last night. the agreement allows the port to develop a logistics facility on property that was once an army base. it will handle cargo for shipment for trains, trucks and ships. the port is promising to hire local workers. a final vote is scheduled for challenging, help it comes to the high paying competitive tech industry. i visited local industries that are investing in vets. >> anybody who is willing to take a bullet for me, i'm going to help support. >> reporter: that's one of the mottos of vets in tech. >> in silicon valley, we move fast. i mean, we -- we build only to deconstruct and build better. a lot of times there is so much churn in that. some of the more vulnerable populations are left to the way side. >> reporter: the vulnerable populations are often the men and women who have served our country and are now in need of a job. >> when you're in the military, you have a lot of confidence in who you are and what you're doing. you come out and you don't know what that is anymore. it takes a while to find that confidence. >> reporter: growing up and being in the military is all that nate wanted to do. after nine years, he wanted to move on. but to what? >> i knew i had to find out what i wanted to do and, you know, retool and find the skills that i needed to get that job. it wasn't going to be the job that i used to have. >> reporter: that's where vets in tech come in. the group helped him get the training that he needed to land a job at a bay area tech company. >> infantry training you learn how to do a job, how to do it on time and under budget and how to do it to a high standard of quality. >> reporter: the organization helps veterans with education, training, resumes and job search. what they ask in return is for them to help the next veteran who needs a hand. >> you make a step and other people stand on your shoulders. >> reporter: melody also took advantage of vets in tech to help land her job as senior director of engineering at gilliad sciences in foster city. >> i love to be part of the company with the emphasis on integrity which was important in the navy and the naval academy. and contribute to help save people's live snooze what does a company get back when they hire a vet? >> they work in teams. they are very ajill and are not afraid to make decisions. they come with global knowledge. they come with great leadership potential and great leadership skills. >> it takes a lot less hand holding to deploy them in the workforce today than it does somebody who is just graduating from college. we can treat patients globally because of the sacrifices that the u.s. and allied
