The school board announcing it. So we found out about this violence will tran is live in san jose with the details. Will. As the Police Officers continue to search for the suspects, they want to make sure that the parents and the should be arriving to school in a couple of hours from now that they feel safer and are safer once theyre on campus. So let me show you video of the scene. This all happened at around 11. 25 yesterday morning. The kids are either moving about on campus are in their classrooms being taught when all of a sudden violence breaks out on campus. Among several students, the fight took place in an area that did not have a lot of students who was by the basketball courts. But we do know that a lot of teachers, administrators, they rushed to the area, try to break up the fight, but not before. 2 students, as you mentioned, were stabbed. Were hearing that one was stabbed in the arm, the other in the back. They are ok as far as being alive this morning. But they were rushed to the hospital for their injuries. In the meantime, they locked down that area, hoping to get more information and of course, to arrest the suspects. But by the time the officers arrived, they were long gone. They ultimately decided short time after that that just released the students back to their parents. The parents rushed to the school, embrace their kids, but a lot of fear still remains to the point where they actually had a meeting last night to address the issue is the superintendent talking about that. Events of today do not speak represent what James High School more with site is it was a senseless act are still waiting to get all the facts and learn exactly what happened. School is back in session a little bit later this morning. Im sure theyll have extra Police Officers on campus just to make sure everybody feels a little bit safer. In the meantime, not just Police Officers, james and area. Theyre also providing counselors on campus just in case anyone who is traumatized last night that they want to talk to that counts. Well just a couple things i dont know if you know, this is kind of specific and i dont know they divulged, but the 2 students did, they end up being hospitalized and also was that attack or a student or do we know . At this point theyre not giving details whether or not these are fellow students who attacked the other students. But as i mentioned, we are hearing that both students, one was stabbed in the back. The other was stabbed in the arm nonlifethreatening injuries, although there reportedly still in the hospital this morning. As far as the descriptions of the suspects, theyre not giving it out at this particular time. But very valid question of whether or not this was a fight on campus among the students or if the students or i should say the suspects went on campus to attack the students. Were hearing, of course, more and more of this. Remember in santa rosa, there was a fight on campus as well resulting in one child dying. Just a few months ago, right . But you thanks for the update. Well, its 6, 15 communities in Southern California are getting the sandbags theyre bracing right now for possible rain, heavy rain. As a matter of fact, maybe even mudslides. Weve got hurricane hilary making its way up the Pacific Ocean and barreling down on them as we speak. Potential flooding coastal flooding. Storm surge strong to damaging told state wave may be over 10 feet tall. All, you know, battering waves, dangerous boating conditions are pretty start to materialize earlier in the weekend. Yeah, its pretty insane. Experts say that a hurricane like this is rare. The last time a Tropical Storm hit california at this looks like more than 80 years and well, look at that. Look at is amazing. John and i were talking about this before the newscast this morning. And it just kind of mine bending what the what certain communities in Southern California are about to see here. Come what years of this with the top ed . I know i think what 9. 39, 0 k john. So lets get you in the congress. We even video of amazing see us . I were not going to like that potentially are we know . I mean, so were going to be doubling the annual rainfall of many Southern California areas in just 2 last flood last year. You have are very rarely see the spc. The Storm Prediction Center putting out for warning and flash flooding in for areas like palm springs. Thats exactly what theyre doing. So its going to be an interesting beginning to next week for sure. And like james and darya were saying, this would be the first Tropical Storm status system to actually make landfall in california since 1939. And you saw those images of what happened last time. So right here, category for hillary sitting west of mexico. This is a truly massive storm right at the peak of generally the atlantic hurricane season. So its a little odd to be talking such a strong storm, the eastern pacific basin. This storm right now forecast to make landfall on baja, california, just south of the u. S. Mexican border. Likely as a category 2 or one hurricane. And if the storm track takes it further inland, that risk of flash flooding is going to be at its very worst. If it does make its way a little bit further westward, it will result in more rainfall for areas like los angeles and san diego. Now we are going to be seeing all that rainfall really concentrated on areas that are used to seeing areas like palm springs up to death valley spots that are very prone to flash flooding. If you do see a lot of this rainfall in a short period of time and look at some of our rainfall projections for some of the southern areas of the state death valley could see around 4 inches of rainfall. By the time we reach early next week, the average annual rainfall for death valley is under 2 inches. So that is well in excess of it. Areas like palm springs, 4 to 5 inches of rain in just a matter of a couple of days. So hillary going to be packing a punch for Southern California. Look at us in the bay area that were really not getting a direct hit from this one at all. May see a few sprinkles, isolated thunderstorm. Thats about all the potential that we have here locally. So our eyes are definitely on Southern California for that one here locally, though, were just in for a cool down and then the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm next week. It will be 70s and 80s for almost all of our daytime highs today. Nobodys getting to 90 degrees. So weve really have backed off the heat and a pretty big way today is going to be the coolest day of the forecast. So if you are inland seeing all those 80s, i really hope you get out there this afternoon. Capitalize on them. Enjoy what is about to be a pretty pleasant feel compared to where we have been tomorrow and sunday. We will see a few low 90s making their return after todays 80s that are very warmest. Well see a slight chance of showers on sunday night. Better chance of maybe an isolated thunderstorm on monday. But compared to our Southern California, neighbors were really dodging the potential of anything bad from the storm. So eyes will be the southern part of the state into early next week. As for your roads, what weve got out, there is pretty smooth morning so far. Its friday and this is officially a friday, like kind of commute. Only 11 minutes across the bay bridge, 14 across the san mateo bridge still below 10 minutes across the Richmond Center fell hardly a commute at all. And look at the golden gate. You certainly have the gray up above, but youre not driving through it. Back to you. Thanks a lot, john. 6. 20, and police are investigating the death of a woman. You know, fulltime care families across the United States on average pay close to 11,000 per year in child care. And advocates say the Business Model is broken during the pandemic. The federal government shelled out 24 billion in relief money to help keep more than 200,000 childcare programs afloat. Now that the money is set to dry up the Century Foundation estimates more than 70,000 programs will shutter and more than 3 million children may lose their spots and that could cost states more than 10 billion dollars in Economic Activity per year. Covid pandemic only further exacerbated the challenges having to have in many cases Small Business owners operate. To be able to provide, you know, care opportunities for Young Children and for working parents. What we need is a substantial, significant federal investment. But i definitely yet when i look at the city from the coast, was all yes, so we have really are kind of moving about on us from time to time. John likes to things interesting. Just when you think, you know, karl, you dont know. Were looking at that fog. That is. Pushed in some areas that are than others. Golden gate bridge is. I absolutely agree a little clearer than it was yesterday. Surprisingly clear morning out there compared to views like this from mount tam where you can see that blanket of fog everywhere else. Yeah, theres a groups that are blaming city leaders for the surge in crime. The naacp and the oakland Police Officers association are calling on the city. Urgently to appoint a new chief kron fours. Philippe djegal has more. Mayor sheng thao says she acted in the city of oaklands best interests when she fired former police chief Leronne Armstrong for mishandling Police Misconduct investigations in february out the step that was necessary to keep us on the path of needed reforms. While we work to make our community safer. But since armstrongs termination, oakland naacp president Cynthia Adams says crime has spiraled out of control and evaluation based on the Police Departments crime statistics. The oakland Police Officers association publicly agrees with the naacp that it is not a coincidence that surging crime has coincided with a 7 month delay in appointing a new permanent chief. It would go to had been there a long time as well. But wouldnt it wouldnt immediate would Community Knows change. Knows what the case was about. Know the name state they it to, you know, not to do cry. Mayor thao says although violent and property crimes are spiking, homicides are down and believes an interim chief Darren Allison experience in managing the department. She says she has worked with governor gavin newsom to increase the california highway patrols presence in town to curb crime. And that armstrongs ouster is not relevant to the rise in crime to say that one person gets the credit for that work. Of everyone in department. That that is bogus house as she is bound by the city charter, which requires the Oakland Police commission to carry out a process of consultation and Community Outreach before presenting her with a list of recommended candidates for the job which the commission started in july continuing through this month and wish that the process can move faster. But of course, oakland deserves the best. And that process is under way. We have seen that the focus process of that process has been completed. And so im hopeful that we can get a new police chief by the end of the and i do. But, ali, that we could have worked things out. Which stroll. I do believe that. I do believe we could have that net and that way open would not be in the situation that were in today. Were going to and in the upper 80s at the very so really nice change of pace from the searing heat that all our inland areas have been saying. Now we do a big change of pace next week. Well talk about a really quick. Its not going impact us so much. But Southern California, especially this is hurricane hilary. Now a category 4 storm. Very powerful storm making its way up the west coast of mexico about to make landfall into the weekend on baja, california and eventually steering its way right through Southern California. If this torment haynes, Tropical Storm status as it crosses the u. S. Mexico border, it will be the first Tropical Storm in california since 1939. So very historic storm here that is going to pack a punch mostly with the amount of rain. Its going to be dropping in areas from los angeles inland out towards death valley in palm springs, the risk of flash flooding, especially high for those easter desert areas like palm springs could see 4 to 5 inches of rain in just a couple days. Time. Death valley could see well over 3 inches could double its annual rainfall in many of those desert locations which just arent built to handle all that rain. Meantime, look at the bay area kind of sitting it out. We will see the potential of a a few light showers, but really nothing significant from that system into the start of next week. In the meantime, its just a cooler day today and a break, a muchneeded break at this point from those hot temps. It will be 70s and 80s for the bayshore today, redwood city and carlos. 84 san jose at 87 degrees. Well, at our very hot spots like livermore, antioch, in vacaville, only at 89 degrees. Thats definitely a change from the triple digits that many of the same spots saw just a couple of days ago. So 10 degrees cooler for many areas. Those we move through the weekend. Temperatures tomorrow and sunday, not as cool as today, but also not as warm as we had been 90s that are very warmest and some 70s for the most part along the bay. Our best chance of any rain or isolated thunderstorms will be sunday night into monday evening after that will drive back out and warm back up. As for your roads got out there this morning has been picture. Perfect commute over the bay bridge. 12 minutes to get you across that wish. It could be this way every day. That is definitely friday bite san mateo bridge. Not so bad. Thats exactly what these lawmakers and public safety, housing and labor advocates say they want to do with a ca one proposed state constitutional amendment to lower the voter threshold needed to approve general obligation, bonds and local special taxes for infrastructure and Affordable Housing projects. As it stands today, such bonds and special tax proposals need approval from at least twothirds or 66 of voters to go into effect. Ca one would reduce that approval threshold to 55 . Lets stop with his anti democratic nonsense. Where 65 of residents could be in favor of something and that somehow not good enough. This is a modest proposal to bring it down to a 55 threshold. This makes common sense. It allows our local voters who want to be a part of the solution to activate their own democratic participation to do that. But on the republican side. Enough is enough. Senator janet nguyen and several of her gop colleagues in the senate and assembly say aca one is an excuse for politicians to raise taxes on californians. Were so overt acts in california.
