Thats as much as 30 degrees cooler than where we have been so very much so we tend to look for to weather wise and im talking more about it still to come back to you guys love him. So the nation is slowly but surely coming together peacefully to mourn the death of george floyd in calling for an end to Police Brutality in fact we saw. Of wide ranging peaceful protests all across the bay area yesterday. You can see on your screen video from San Francisco from oakland from san mateo with thousands gathering to join their voices. And heres a look at the streets of San Francisco as thousands came out to protest Police Brutality. Those protests were mostly peaceful and because of that the mayor has lifted the citys curfew got kron fours will tran standing by live at dolores park with more on last nights demonstration. And the change of heart for the maersk part will. The mayor has been monitoring the situation and over the past couple of days, its been relatively peaceful and thats why she said its time to lift the curfew so you dont have to be home at 8 oclock at night in fact a lot of people ignored it yesterday and they said it was ok because it was relatively peaceful. This is dolores park you can see right behind me and how clean it is that should tell you how things went last night as many as 15 to 20,000 people were here this is pretty much the start of it often the distance is Mission High School you can see that tower right behind me they all gathered at this location they heard speeches that actually started by a 17 yearold San Francisco girl she was the organizer behind all this she said that change needs to happen, especially in the Mission District she chose this location because her family. Its from here from this location they marched through the streets of San Francisco went past the Mission Police dartment the mission station that was the original stop that it got a lot of momentum so they actually changed in the midstream when all the way down to the hall of justice where they protested again against Police Brutality against the system that they say is slanted towards African Americans and people of color. But they say this is far from over and a lot of people of course during the march they took to social media, but they say this fight is not on social media, but boots on the ground. Im just tired. I want to support my people as much as possible. I want to see solidarity im tired of the silence, im tired preaching over and over again posting it on instagram and thats to go anywhere we need to be out here we need to be on the front line and do as much as we can. And it is far from over because there could be future protests in the future and that is why mayor london breed this is very tentative that shes please which is why she lifted their curfew we didnt hear of any major damage last night if at all and no major arrests are significant arrests to pass along to you. This has the support of San Franciscos police chief bill scott as well they will meet at 2 oclock this afternoon. The board of supervisors they will have the final approval whether or not the curfew can be lifted for the city and county of San Francisco. But it looks like james and area, everybodys on lock step. And of course you can march through the streets but what are the changes moving forward and a lot of the protesters they say they should focus on now trying to rebuild the African American and other people of color businesses to spend money for those particular locations back to you. All right, thanks a lot. Well. From San Franciscos jump across the bay to oakland where we have video of the peaceful protest that we saw yesterday this was how it started yesterday evening with many coming together to express their frustration with the lack of change with regard to Racial Injustice across the country here in the bay area. Demonstrators are also protesting against the curfew in Alameda County a much different scene yesterday from what we saw just a few nights ago when officers used tear gas to break up the crowds. Oaklands interim police chief had had a chance to speak with the media about why they decided to use tear gas when they did. It is never our intent to want to use them. However, there are guidelines strict guidelines of when we will use that our policy our crowd control policy states that. We will we may use gas or other distract are such a smoke when theres an immediate threat of violence to our community or an officer. When theres damage and destruction of property and only under the instruction and approval, a high ranking commander. Last night there was only one arrest there were no citations and no reports of violence or looting oaklands curfew will remain in effect from 08 00pm until 05 00am until further notice. In the north bay, a Peaceful Community gathering in fairfield do hundreds of people kron forcefully to call was there. Make no mistake with fairfield ministers are angry over the death of george floyd and the way he lost his life ive been crying and its very difficult i when i see it come on to try to change channels a little tired of seeing it and even more tired of senseless killings, but whatever your form of expression pastors say it needs to be peaceful didnt see a lot of Law Enforcement fairfield a Law Enforcement our our city officials i think the outrage is pretty widespread and the best way this group of hundreds felt was appropriate to remember and honor george floyd was to take a collective me several times during the gathering at Laurel Creek Community park driving home the importance of standing up for equality in your senate times like this were just shallow. Words can get lost. The actions speak. The actions of everyone gathered together as one of the things that makes parafield special complete strangers to the floyd family offering their condolences also extending an olive branch to the Africanamerican Community or may not be able to reach anyone pain at all. But i would like to apologize. Im sorry. Destroyed several homes throughout the discover whats possible for summer. At lowes. And were back at 7. 13 happening now firefighters in the north bay are fighting a large grass fire that damaged several homes in sassoon city kron fours reyna harvey has been out there all morning and they got a handle on it. You know theyre still actually working on it as we speak, but as the sun decided to come up. And then able to get a closer look at the houses that were devastated in that fire yesterday you can see behind me. Its at least 4 homes on this block that have been damaged and devastated by that fire but i want to show you guys just how massive that grass fire was yesterday, you can see the firefighters trying to put that out dropping a fire retardant from the sky trying to get squashed out this happened around 03 26pm i was able to talk to some of the residents in the neighborhood this morning who say they were evacuated for several hours but as you can see several homes were lost as a result of that fire at least 7 im told. Now we know this fire grew to about nearly 300 acres and this was in this is soon area the Wildlife Center also burned here. Now i was able to talk to one of the neighbors who told me what he saw from his vantage point. Reporter right here in the hole. This whole the whole feel right here was on fire. It was just Fire Department all right here. People are trying to back away all right, heres and it was it was terrible last night it was it was bad people are calling up right here and theyre trying to the trains to go that way and it was just it was the same i to be honest with you. High on this is new video from this morning. So when i got here around 4, 5, this is how big that fire was still they tell me about 200 firefighters. Were on scene trying to put it out those heavy winds and those high temperatures around a 100 degrees as what really fueled this fire. So we know that in the coming weeks, were stepping into fire season here thats the main concern of a lot of the fire officials and also the residents that i was able to talk to this morning. They say thats also a concern for them. You can see this side of the street, the homes here devastated, but i want to show you just how close. The fire actually was to the homes on this side of the street you can see those were not damaged, but they were asked to evacuate. So again theyre currently still trying to figure out what caused this fire. And again well be on scene all morning trying to get more information james. All right. Thank you very much that 7. 16. The drying grasses all around the bay areas yeah always goes together and thats not over yet and i think even when this ends youve got another he wave on the horizon. Exactly at the end of the forecast after a nice little dip, these next few days we go back to the even get its almost like clockwork during the week we get the sheets and then we get a nice little dip so at least we get the breaks in there. But yeah were working our way into that time of year guys where the heat just becomes more and more look a south bay this morning sustained has a right here, nice clear skies overhead were going to see temperatures, nice and comfortable during the Morning Hours but by the afternoon, not so nice and comfortable it before an increase an onshore flow at the coast is going to help to keep our coastal areas little bit cooler more humid today that cold front toward north though is whats going to ultimately sweep in and thats whats going to cooler inland areas down so noticeably into tomorrow so we do have a 1, 2 punch that is starting to break up this heat tomorrow will be just a touch cloudier you can see those clouds and future cast. But saturday is the one that actually could you bring a couple sprinkles as that cooler air really settles on its the bay area as for today, were still in the midst of a heat wave, although not as hot as yesterday, coastal spots a noticeable who down our most comfortable areas in the 60s and 70s now you head further away from the pacific and thats where youre definitely Still Holding on to hot temperatures albeit a touch cooler than yesterday san jose 92 for the high while 80s to 90s out in the east bay freemont son hayward and the 80s with oakland falling from a record breaking 88 yesterday to just 80 degrees today danville walnut creek in concord out of the triple digits yesterday into the 90s today and you are you are loads spot on the map Still Holding on to 100 degrees elsewhere in the bay temperatures mostly either 80s or 90s now the big changes come tomorrow, look at the 20 degree cool down from where it will be this afternoon in the mid 90s to mid 70s tomorrow, temperatures will remain in the 70s through the weekend for warmest of temperatures and even into the start of next week before highs building get and by wednesday of next week, its back to the 90s we go back to you in studio. Youll be asked if you do not know he will be guest moved out of the a very intense situation there captured on body camera video from walnut creek police. Where in the east bay we saw mondays protest devolved into injuries and vandalism it didnt start out that way. Police are offering some more details on how it all played out in the beginning we had about 3,000 people have gathered at civic park here. To protest the killing of george floyd this was around 3 oclock everything fine peaceful and it stay that way to about 5. 30. But thats when about a 1000 of the protesters split off and headed towards interstate 6. 80 trying to block traffic and thats when they clashed with the chp then after the citys curfew went into effect police say several protesters decided to commit acts of violence or vandalism on a nearby business and that is what prompted officers to deploy tear gas to break it up and dispersed the crowd police say some of the protesters began suffering projectiles at officers, including a large rock in fact one of their officers sustained an injury as a result. We see videos online and on tv of police using force against protesters. And Police Departments have defended their actions saying theyre using rubber bullets and tear gas but as charmaine your reports protesters say. Some cases theyve been seriously hurt by those. Charmaine nero fox 40 news senator Kamala Harris is weighing in on the protests kron 4 Sarah Stinson is in San Francisco with more on what she had to say sarah. Daria senator Kamala Harris spoke with our pam moore pretty indepth about what were seeing across our country not only from the protest but to what theyre doing on a federal level she says these protests are definitely creating change and everyone on capitol hill is hearing the loud and clear she is working hard to make sure that something is actually done from this the killing of george floyd some positive change that can come of this take a look at this video from all over our country we have seen peaceful protests weve seen it become a little violent at times but later as of lately weve seen protests, become a little bit more peaceful from our Nations Capital to our State Capitol to right here at home in the bay area senator harris says too many times have we seen a black man killed by police weve seen protesters fight for justice before and were seeing it yet again harris protested herself in dc with others last week she believes marching peacefully really does create change and attributes that to her role as the second black woman to serve the senate. The video of george floyd being killed by a minneapolis Police Officer has stirred up a lot of emotion within america if you saw you know how horrific it was to watch senator harris believes cell phone footage of incidents like this gets people to stand up against the Racial Injustice that occurs every day in our country. I think that we have reached a point in this country also where enough is enough frankly i believe that one of the greatest tools of progress in our fight for civil rights has been a smartphone because now everyone is carrying a video camera and capturing these moments that communities have been shouting about crying about the generations and finally now everyone is seeing it. It is tragic that it took back for people to believe that its happening. The center also talked about these charges. The new charges against all 4 minneapolis officers involved in the death of george floyd she says while this feels like justice is being served there still a lot more to do on the federal level. Harris says shes working with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to put together legislation to reform policing in america. She wants to initiate pattern or practice investigations when Police Officers are accused of discrimination. She also believes that the district attorneys should not be the one investigating them and she believes that should be completely independent she also wants to change the use of force. Well the white house continues to defend the president s photoop at Saint Johns Church and the use of force to clear the protesters out of the area before before his walk across the street. But secretary of defense mark esper is trying to distance himself from those decisions. As Caitlin Collins explains that has put him on shaky ground with the president. Defense secretary mark esper was already on thin ice with the white house when he broke with President Trump on whether active duty military should be deployed to American Cities to curb protests. I do not support invoking the insurrection act in a remarkable press conference the pentagon chief contradicted trump who threatened days earlier to invoke a 200 yearold law and put troops on us streets the option to use active duty forces in a Law Enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort. And only in the most urgent and dire of situations. We are not in one of those situations now. As the military takes a larger role in confronting protesters in the Nations Capital around 1600 active duty troops have been placed on standby in the washington area. After telling nbc news. I didnt know where i was going as for conceded today, he knew trump was headed to Saint Johns Church when he left the white house on monday i did know that were going to the church i was not aware of a photo op is happening. Protesters were forced out of Lafayette Park using smoke canisters and pepper bowls for that photoop. The administration has disputed the tear gas was used the cdc considers pepper spray to be in that category. The white house believes that moment neared Winston Churchill inspecting bombing damage during world war 2 churchill we saw him inspecting the bombing damage and sent a powerful message of leadership to the british people esper was already on shaky ground with the president sources say and today the press secretary refused to say if trump had confidence in him as a great secretary espers still secretary esper in. I should the president lose faith and we will all learn about that some in the future while esper is distancing himself from that photo op. The president is defending it and dismissed the religious leaders who condemned did i get called up a bible i think thats a good thing not a bad thing in many religious leaders loved it in that interview with fox news trump tonight, sheltering in an underground bunker as protests raged outside the white house he says he did go to the bunker, but it was more for an inspection i went down during the midday. And i was there for a tiny little short period of time and is much more for inspection there was no problem during the day gunned down. 2 or 3 all for inspection. Well we have former defense secretary james mattis not mincing any words in his scathing statement calling out President Trump general mattis accusing the president of not at all trying to unite americans. In fact it goes on to say the protests happening across the country are consequences of 3 years of trumps deliberate effort to divide americans. Madison calls on americans to hold politicians in Office Accountable for their actions. The marine general as you may remember resigned from his role as defense secretary back in december of 2018 as an act of defiance but the president claims he fired him. Morning washington voting activists are pleading with congress to expand access to the ballot ahead were back at 7. 55 president barack obama addressed the country in a special town hall meeting. He talked about a variety of topics, including the death of george floyd and the protest and hes challenging mayors around the country to address police use of force policies and their cities take a listen. What can we do. Number one, we know there are specific evidence based reforms that if we put in place today would build trust save lives. Were not showing increase in crime.
