americans are not among them. >> the days released are the start of a process. >> nancy: in return, 39 palestinians have been freed from israeli prisons. >> an israeli sniper just shot one of the young men. and it really just underscores how intense the situation here is. >> nancy: sean "diddy" combs, axl rose, jamie foxx, and andrew cuomo are among the thousands accused of sexual assault in lawsuits filed under new york's adult survivors act. >> reporter: at this shopping center in new york, bargain hunters have been lining up to get their hands on the best black friday deals. >> nancy: but will high prices and credit card debt prompt to shoppers to spend less. >> reporter: i'm jericka duncan in central park, what you need to know about the benefits of working out on the weekend. >> nancy: and an update on how music fan's dream came true. >> i love you, michael! ♪ ♪ >> nancy: good evening to our viewers in the west, and thank you for joining us on this busy friday night. i'm nancy cordes in for norah. we begin tonight with the long awaited release of some of the hostages captured by hamas. they were freed this morning after seven excruciating weeks of captivity inside gaza. those released include 13 israelis, ten thai citizens, and one filipino citizen. the israelis range in age from a 2-year-old girl to an 85-year-old great-grandmother. almost all of them were kidnapped from the same community. more than 200 remain in captivity in gaza. the freed hostages were handed over to the red cross as part of an agreement that required israel to release 39 palestinian prisoners. president biden said today's events were the result of extensive u.s. diplomacy and more hostages including some americans are expected to beexpe released cbs's lilia luciano will start us off tonight from tel aviv with the late-breaking details. good evening, lilia. >> reporter: good evening, nancy. as you imagine, the anticipation for this moment for the truce and release of hostages has been extraordinary. and today just a small fraction of the families of hostages got to experience what every single one of them has been yearning for, to see them in person and alive. tonight 24 hostages including 13 israelis held by hamas cross to safety. the sights of their faces traveling into egypt inside red cross trucks brought a sigh of relief to some family members. >> i just broke down in tears. i had to walk away and let everything go. it was a very exciting moment. >> reporter: dori roberts' cousin doran and her two daughters were among them. not among those freed any americans including 4-year-old abigail idan. today presidents remained optimistic some would be released soon. >> we will also not stop until we get these hostages brought home and an answer to their whereabouts. >> reporter: day one of the cease-fire began as planned at 7:00 a.m. allowing hundreds of aid trucks carrying fuel and supplies to reach gazans in desperate need. but just an hour into the temporary truce, shots fired. cbs news captured the moments israeli soldiers shot and killed at least two palestinians injuring several others to block them from getting retaliated into northern gaza. at 4:00 they were and buses to israel where the first stop was a military base for health assessment. and then on to helicopters bound for hospitals and their awaiting families. now we see the helicopters. these are the first carrying the first group of hostages to make it to the hospital for treatment marking the end of a very long 49 day journey in captivity, but only the beginning of a long road to recovery. psychoanalyst ofrit shapira-berman has been treating survivors of the attacks. what does a child need after what they have been through? >> i think probably many of them would be withdrawn. they may have a lot of difficulty again with people, with noises, with strong lights. >> reporter: shapira-berman said though the trauma can be scarring, with the right attention and therapy they can overcome. >> if a person is able to love and trust, the person will have a good life eventually. >> reporter: right now the israeli government is reviewing the names of the women and children that hamas plans to release tomorrow. we can expect another 13 hostages in exchange for 39 women and children prisoners held in israel prisons. nancy. >> nancy: so many families hoping their loved ones will be next. lilia luciano in tel aviv tonight. thank you. the hostage agreement calls for the exchange of three palestinian prisoners for everyone freed israeli. the 39 palestinians released today came from three israeli prisons and were greeted by cheering crowds as they boarded buses heading for ramallah. cbs's imtiaz tyab was outside one of the prisons during the release. >> reporter: they came in their hundreds, after the release of the palestinian prisoners to show their solidarity. in the distance, israeli forces gathered ahead of the exchange where some palestinians threw stones. one was shot in the leg with the live round before being rushed into an ambulance. an israeli sniper just shot one of the young men here. and it really just underscores how tense the situation here is as people wait for those palestinian prisoners to be released. attention noman abu naaiem has experienced for the last 16 months, that's how long his son has been in jail for for joining a protest. when you saw your son's name on the list for those who would be released, how did you feel? "like anyone who is dying to see their son." he says, "we were thrilled." in the occupied west bank city, thousands more gathered to greet these prisoners, a total of 24 women and 15 teenage boys. part of a group of 150 approved for release following the deal between israel and hamas. some help for months, others for years. as more released prisoners made their way through the crowds, they were given a hero's welcome. the israeli military warn palestinians here not to celebrate the return of these prisoners, but it is a warning that clearly defied. a defiant celebration over what palestinians are calling a small moment of victory during a brutal war. now as part of the deal between israel and hamas, a total of 150 palestinian prisoners will be released over the coming days. there are currently over 7,000 palestinians in israeli jails, the prisoner rights group says many are being held without charge. nancy. >> nancy: wow, imtiaz tyab in east jerusalem tonight, thank you. back here at home, president biden called the release "only a start" and says he hopes the americans are freed soon. cbs's weijia jiang is traveling with the president on nantucket island. >> reporter: tonight they're up to ten americans who are still unaccounted for. president biden said not all of their conditions are known, but they could be among the hostages. >> we don't know the list of who all the hostages are or when they will be released, but we know the numbers that will be released. so it's my hope and expectation that it will be soon. >> reporter: u.s. official are carefully tracking three americans who could be released in the next few days. two women and 4-year-old abigail whose parents were killed by hamas. the president expressed optimism for their return after some two dozen hostages were released today. president biden spent the day with his family in nantucket. but he has received several briefings from his national security team. which has been working the phones and shuttling between israel and qatar to negotiate a hostage deal. >> today has been been a product of hard work and weeks of personal engagement. i along with my team have worked around the clock to secure the release. >> reporter: back here on nantucket, the biden families annual tradition of attending the town's christmas tree lighting was disrupted by protesters criticizing the president's policies on the war in gaza. earlier, he said he would continue to push israel to reduce civilian casualties as it fights hamas. nancy. >> nancy: weijia jiang in nantucket tonight, thank you so much. to new york now, where a flood of sexual assault complaints were filed over the next few days over well-known names. it came just before a law waving the delight and statute of limitation for such claims was set to expire. cbs's elaine quijano reports that among those are eric adams, some high profile celebrities, and now a former governor. >> reporter: former new york governor andrew cuomo is the latest to be sued under the adult survivor's act his then aide brittany commisso alleged that he groped her in 2021. she is alleging continued sexual harassment. cuomo denied the allegations and later resigned. in a statement the lawyer for the former governor said "ms. commisso's claims are formally false, that's why the district attorney dismiss the case two years ago after quijano, thank you. turning now to the holiday season which means spending time with family, friends, and indulging in america's other favorite pastime, shopping. an estimated 182 million americans are hitting the malls, shops, and the web this thanksgiving weekend as cbs's roxana saberi reports that's up from last year despite inflation and high interest rates. >> reporter: from the mall of america minnesota to this best buy in kansas and the queens center mall in new york, shoppers like bryan loma lined up for hours to get a jump on black friday deals. you guys came very prepared. >> yes, paid for 130 originally, brand new, like $400 upwards. >> was it worth waiting here so long? >> yeah, i would say so yeah. >> reporter: according to a poll by deloitte, shoppers plan to spend more than $1600 this holiday season. that's 14% more than last year. >> we are seeing people spending in the same rate they did prior to the pandemic. so i think that we are returning to some historic patterns. >> reporter: and online shopping is also rebounding partly because of deep discounts. >> they continue to be very strong and competitive because you have a lot of players buying for the consumer's dollar. >> reporter: adobe analytics that tracks trends says that this year's holiday spending is on track to be nearly 5% higher than last year's. but would still be below the pre-pandemic average. and as consumers grapple with high interest rates, credit card debts and inflation, shoppers like nazinga steele plan to buy fewer gifts. what is your economic situation like this year? >> with the prices going up for food, prices going up for everything, shopping is the last thing on my mind. >> reporter: at this mall in new york, we have seen signs for sales ranging from 25 to 75% tricky. >> reporter: however a recent study found that you may not need to exercise during the week if you work out for at least 150 minutes over the weekend. that's great news for weekend warriors like kathy odds who meets up with a running group on saturdays. >> what i love most about weekend exercise is the opportunity to socialize. it's not only physical well-being, but my mental well-being. >> reporter: shaan khurshid led the study. >> as a physician there's a rule of thumb that we say 30 minutes five days a week, because it makes sense in certain specters, but that's very difficult to achieve for other people. >> reporter: the study followed about 90,000 people and found that moderate to vigorous activity concentrated on one or two days a week offers similar cardiovascular benefits to workouts that are spread throughout the week. >> it does not matter so much how you get it, the important thing is that you get it. >> reporter: whether it's a weekend run, bike ride, or a walk, it all counts. it's really about working out longer on this one day, right? >> yes, during the week, i find it hard to come out and get a run in, especially with the days getting shorter and shorter. >> mcdonald is on tour with the doobie brothers. >> i love you, michael! >> reporter: paisley said she was the youngest one in audience by a generation, and the only one who got to talk to mcdonald, sort of. >> he said thank you to me. he said thank you. >> reporter: that was it. and that was enough for her. after my visit, i reached back out to paisley. and we talked about how cool it would be to have a real chat with him. the odds of that happening would be very, very slim. or... maybe not. what's that? >> wait a second, what? >> how are you, darling? >> what? >> it's okay, sweetie. >>
