well, if i might to make sure we are not making a mistake senator coops. it is my hope that if you are confirmed and we do make progress on bipartisan criminal justice reform that as attorney general you will carry out whatever legislative decisions might be made by this body. last let me say in my six years here in addition to not working on a number of bipartisan proposals on criminal justice reform you have repeatedly voted against congressional attempts to prohibit torture in the military on text or the interrogation context and to defend enhanced interrogation practices. are you clear now that our statutes prohibit torture and if the president were to rover yid that clear legal authority what actions would you take? on your previous question i would note the federal prison population has already dropped 10 or more percent and will drop
another 10,000 this year. what is happening now is reducing the federal population. this law only dealt with the federal prison ....

feel your party, the democratic party does not pay attention to them any more you are more concerned with what bathroom people go into, to how they earn a living? what is the message. very fair question. one, you give me credit. it s about 1:10. it s not a bad rate for me. look, if we were going back in history to the 30s and 40s, and you asked the average working person, which party is the party of the working class in america? overwhelmingly, people would have said it was the democratic party. today people do not say that. and for good reason. no. when we talk about the greed on wall street, it wean the the republicans alone who did it, they did it with democrats. it was a democratic administration, not a republican
administration, that brought forth nafta, i think the democrats have got to make a fundamental choice, chris, that is which side are they on? you cannot be on the side of wall street, of the drug companies and the insurance companies and the big mon ....

today and something the president himself highlighted at the press conference. take a listen. i think a lot of his views are going to be shaped by his advisers, the people around him, which is why it s important to pay attention to these confirmation hearhearings. this is a job of such magnitude you can t do it by yourself. you are enormously reliant on a team. how you put a team together to make sure that they are getting you the best information and they are teeing up the options from which you will ultimately make decisions. that s probably the most useful advice, the most constructive advice i ve been able to give him. personnel is policy, in other words. especially for a chief executive who for the first time in the history of this republic has zero experience in public service of any kind, not the government nor the military. with policy positions all over the map, even changing from one day to the next, it s nearly impossible to predict just what
trump will do as pr ....

president trump on this decision. welcome to the program. glad to have you. great to be here. sean: you and a lot of prominent judicial scholars were asked to look for certain candidates that fit this meaning of a constitutionalist, and originalist. maybe some americans are hearing this term for the first time. how would you best define those terms and differentiate a regionalism from judicial activism? first of all, the way to think about it is a judge has a deep sense of fairness and a sense of impartiality. when he is grounded in text and original meaning of the constitution, she is putting the text and the original meeting ahead of any political predisposition he may have. that s the way a judge cases. fairly and partially without regard to your own predispositions or prejudices.
sean: a judicial activist assembly of a liberal put a liberal would want on the court? somebody believes that the constitution is a living and breathing document that they have the right ....
