[laughter] will: just trying to figure out who was funny. plus, a school highs showdown is on the ballot in texas. will parents make their voices heard this tuesday? if a. rachel: i hope so. and what time do you drink your coffee? >> this is a coffee morning. >> every morning for you is a coffee morning. >> this is a jumbo coffee morning. rachel: that's right. experts are sharing conflicting guidance on the best time for a cup of joe. the second hour of "fox & friends" weekend starts right now. if. ♪ hey, you, get off of my cloud ♪ if. rachel: good morning, everybody. it's 7:00 a.m. here on the east coast. you're looking at neptune beach, new jersey, or you were. will: the thing is, saturday night live wasn't funny just now. they teed it up with good potential content, right? joe biden is a font of material for comedy, and i was just -- i mean -- pete: i think you need to watch the whole thing. will: do you think it was funnier? if. pete: i don't know, i haven't seen it -- will: i saw shane willis last week, a lot of skits, really funny. pete: we're going to play the whole clip -- wii. will: we are? pete: it's right here. turn if the page. rachel: shane bill lis has a piece who has down's sun dream, and that stuff was really good. will: part of the thing that shane gillis gets a lot of credit for is not being hemmed in by political correctness, and he'll say words that are clearly stricken off, you can't say these words. not only will he say the word, he'll go deep into the topic. and that's to one of the topics -- rachel: he does. he uses the r-word, but what he says is liberals are so afraid, you know, he's obviously referring to the eugenics that's used against them. he said, the funny thing is they turn out to just be the best person in the family, which is totally true. [laughter] you guys have met valentina -- will: happiest person in the family. they don't worry about the election, they're not stressed, they just are in the moment and enjoying it. i actually really loved it because i think, ultimately, it was a very pro-life message and a really great message about what we're doing to people with down's syndrome through ace abortion and eugenics. so i think on the whole, net positive. pete: in a moment we're going to get a chance to assess whether or not are saturday night live was actually funny if because, you're right, there is. so much material in real life that if they wanted to exploit it, they could. and that a real life material, by the way, leetsz us to our -- leads us to our first topic which is the way the american people perceive joe biden. consider the source on this one. we talked about other portions of this poll at the top of the show. this is a new york times poll, new york times-sienna if college poll. it showed donald trump beating joe biden in the political sense. the underlying factors are pretty damning for the president. should joe biden be the democrat nominee, is the question. and this is to democrat voters. will: right, that's the key. pete: this is to democrat voters. it's basically a split, 46-45 should and should not be the nominee. that alone citing his approval rating and everything else you see in there has him underwater with his own voters which is not a strong place to be. , and again, this is "the new york times." they don't want to be reporting this number, yet they have to, and it's the reality -- rachel: and it's an important number because that poll will talk, reflects on the enthusiasm of the voter for that candidate. and you're going. to need a lot of enthusiasm in november if to get people to go to the polls, and you have a lot of divisions in the democrat party. we talked earlier about the hispanic vote. but just like the hispanic vote which i said is the working class vote, you're having problems in michigan and a lot of people focusing on the muslim problem in michigan and not really on the working class are automobile issue in michigan where there's a lot of problem going on with that. will: did you see batya ungar-sargon said that on bill maher? rachel: yes. she's absolutely right about that. will: she focused on the muslim thing in michigan, you're not focused on what you've gone -- done to the -- rachel: she was spectacular, by the way. will: what comes closer to how you would feel if joe biden were a democratic nominee for president. again, among democratic primary voters. 23% enthusiastic, 43% satisfied, 20% dissatisfied, 6% angry. again, i know we've said it, among democratic primary voters, the reason i highlight that is because those numbers begin to reflect things you see among general-wide polls and approval ratings. when you see numbers in the 40s, you think you're talking about, you know, the country. we're not. we're talking about democrats. that's bad news. for joe biden. rachel: ray yeah. pete: well, they see what the rest of us see and, finally, saturday night live apparently has seen it as well. so last night they took their best swipe -- will: here we go. pete: we'll see. saddle up, will. rachel: they're late to the party though, make no mistake. pete: they're always late, of course. will: is it funny. pete: here they are on biden. is it funny. watch. >> behind closed doors, joe is incredible. >> behind closed doors, he's a whirl wind. >> behind closed doors he's a dynamo. >> i was with joe biden for the past weekend and, whew, he wiped me out. [laughter] you didn't report that because it doesn't fit your little narrative. >> well, with all due respect, it doesn't fit reality. will: so -- the end was a little funny. pete: there was another part with karine jean-pierre talking about the soul cycle class and all this other stuff that we had to cut out, it was too long. rachel: i'm old enough to remember snl from -- exactly, exactly. i'm old enough to remember snl pre-trump. and it was the funny. especially, by the way, in the '90s. it's just kind of gone -- pete: well it's true. here's "the new york times," the headline based on this poll, for democrats pining for alternative, the biden team that has a message. get over it. this is kind of answering our question about what do you do next. the biden team views the very question of should he run as absurd is. the president, in their view, has an impressive record of accomplishment to run on. there's no obvious alternative. michael tyler, the biden campaign communications director said on saturday, our campaign is ignoring the noise and running a strong campaign to win just like we did in 2020. so they're saying you question his age? we don't care. we're running. will: i mean, you pointed out the nikki haley thing. that's the thing, like, blame the voters. understand, you don't like what you see? get over it, you know? if i'm not sure why they think any campaign thinks that's a winning idea. the problem is you. you don't like me because you're the problem. why does anyone think that's going to work? rachel: it's not. and so the question is, what are they going to do about it? [laughter] pete: right now it's stay the course. right now it's stay the course -- rachel: jill said stay the course. [laughter] and obama's going request, we've got to fix this. pete: we'll see. will: "the washington post" has a fascinating article up about -- have you guys seen, by the way, a lot of people on the left are saying the crime story is fake, meaning -- pete: and the migrant crime story is fake. will: yeah. saying that's all, you know, fox news media creation. pete: look at the stats, they commit crimes at much lore percentages than everybody else ignoring the fact that they shouldn't be with here in the first place -- will: yeah. and ignoring human beings telling you, for example, like you had yesterday, i've got a store in washington, d.c. that i've had to close, we had that story yesterday. and and ignoring the fact that you and i can walk down here to cvs, and everything is behind lock and key. deodorant -- pete: it's a tall point. will: the zombie cvs, mara wrote america is a sticky-fingered nation if built on stolen land. more on that in a minute. and its current moral panic is about shoplifting. all over the country if from sea to shining cvs, there are concerns about petty theft which some retailers claim is worse than ever before. videos of brazen threats have gone viral is. it has become a political talking point and liability, but the data is murky. theft has gotten worse in some cities but better in others. it's either underreported or overhajj rated. that's, so -- rachel: it's an amazing quote, isn't it? she says retailers say, those pesky retailers that are misreeding everyone -- misleading everyone about shoplifting in their stores. will: is she saying that, like, it's as american as a 57ing -- apple pie? she said, america's a sticky-fingered nation -- pete: that sounds like a -- rachel: don't complain about stealing toothpaste. pete: that seems like a line that she typed out -- will: just liked -- pete: yeah. will: just for the record, let's say con kerred, not stolen. pete: if i agree with you. will: they're very different concept ises. pete: they don't like conquered, will. will: they may not like gravity the, but it still exists. [laughter] rachel: all right. well, here is a big debate going on in america right now, like, how, when should you take your coffee in the morning? if. pete: is this a big debate? will: i think it might be. rachel: and my producer said so. >> good morning being. first of all, we're all looking for the fountain of youth. it's not in a pill or a cream, but it may just be in what you eat. the reality is what and when you eat certainly has an effect on your body. up until now most of the studies on fasting have been in animals, and they have widely shown when you do fasting, some sort of fasting, intermittent or other, it can decrease your risk of chronic illness. when that's from fasting alone or just lowering your weight, we still kind of don't know -- rachel: you're giving your organs a rest. >> absolutely. and that's part of the defox process. usc did a small study in about 100 people, 50% in control, 50% people in this where hay did a 5-day fasting. it wasn't like you can't eat anything. they're having the healthy fats, good fats, fish, avocado, peanut butter, other things, and they were also taking vitamins so they were still getting sustenance, but they were putting their body in a state of fasting. what they say was -- can saw was all the again fits of rescuing weightings body -- reducing your weight, decreased risk of medical conditions like heart disease, dementia, those are some of the things we proposed, not necessarily in the study. one thing they also noticed was a reversal of what they call the biological clock. we have the chronological age, but biological age meaning that your immune cells were actually doing better. so that was the thing. and it wasn't everybody who had a reduction in that, but the reality is eating healthier and maybe having these periods of fasting could be good for you not just, you know, your chronic medical disease, but also making sure that your immune system is healthier. i have done the fasting, i am a huge proponent of it. but the problem is these strict diets are really hard to adhere by. so everything in moderation -- moderation under the care of a physician. rachel: ray well, it is lent, it's a good time to fast. >> do it in a healthy way. don't just starve yourself. rachel: tweens are starting to get rashes from some kind of skin care products that have been popularized on social media. it's a big trend, all these really young kids who shouldn't be in sephora are there. >> that's right. this is where i'm so thankful that i'm a boy mom. there are a lot of girl mamas, yourself included, these trends that are targeting that gen-alpha, ages 7-15. rachel: it's crazy. >> young girls are using products that have retinal and high driving while intoxicated city as sented in it -- high driving while intoxicated -- hydroxy acids in it. we need to increase our collagen, give us that youthful appearance. what's happening in these teenagers, they're getting rashes, irritation, infections that can lead to scar ising. they're going to dermatologists' offices, they don't need this. the best thing that teenagers really could use with, make sure you keep your skin clean, use a sunscreen. studies show 80% of all wrinkles in our age is from sun exposure in the younger age. so we really need to get away from this. yes, retinal products can be used for acne, but that's under the care of a physician, and it's different than what these teenagers are doing. rachel: also i never thought about my skin other than acne when i was a teen, i never thought about wrinkles and plumping my skin up. this is some mental health things that we're concern. >> we're contributing more to the mental health crisis. rachel: 100%. okay, we've got to get your thoughts on our big coffee debate. should you have water before you have your coffee or does it make no difference? >> i admit it, i have a big cup of lukewarm water every single morning with a little scweaz of lemon. that helps with detoxification -- rachel: is that a thing? >> -- and boosting your metabolism. but then i have a solid 4-6 cups of coffee finish. rachel: 4-6 cups? joining us to discuss is senior fellow for the american federation of children corey deangelis who's been a great fighter for school choice across this country. corey, this is my home state. i am from a rural area in texas. i think it would be qualified as a rural area, grayson county, sherman, texas. and most of the republicans who voted with democrats to fight against school choice in texas were rural republicans. what was their motivation? why would this be with something they'd vote against? >> i mean, the vast majority of these guys were previously endorsed by the state affiliate of the nea, the largest teachers' union in the country, so this excuse about being in a a rural area is just that, it's them trying to have their cake and eat it too. other states that have much more rural areas like west virginia already have universal school choice, so this is just an excuse. will: really quick though, corey, i'm just trying to fully understand -- look, those rural legislators in texas are going to be very republican, very conservative on most issues. is it that they -- by the way, there's not private school options in most of those districts. so you give them a $10,500 voucher, it's no real threat to the local school system. there's no place to go. is it, well, the school district in that system is a big employer, and that's why the nea endorsement and support matters so much? >> yeah. it's because the rural areas is one of the biggest employers, but they'll try to say on the one hand they can't use this, but on the other hand, it's going to destroy their fantastic rural public schools. if they're so fantastic, you should have is nothing to worry about. but if you have no exit options, you should be the last person arguing this is going to defund your schools. will: let's take a look at the states that have emigres braced universe al school choice, oklahoma, arkansas next door to texas and scattered throughout the south, the midwest and the southwest. of so this, this proposal by abbott would open un, as i mentioned, 10,500 vouchers to students in texas to apply wherever they want, private, whatever their options, freedom. if. >> yeah. you can take your kid's education dollars to the public, private, charter or home school option of your choosing. and if you look back at that map, those are all red states. this should be a no-brainer for a tate like texas. school choice is on the republican party platform, and it was supported on the ballot in 2022 by 88% of texas republican primary voters. so this is a conservative gop litmus test issue, and this is partially why these 16 rinos have challengers who all support school choice. the challenge ors are backed by greg abbott, ted cruz, donald trump, even attorney general ken paxton. we're all a rowing the same direction here, the wind is at our backs, and i think a lot of these guys are going to lose their seats either in the election on tuesday or in a runoff later on because this is a huge priority of republican primary voters. will: i want to follow up really quickly. you're right, by the way, they're all -- the challengers have been endorsed by those you just mentioned. one of the things i noticed personally, corey, is while i grew up in a place where you didn't have a private school option, school choice is even more important in urban environments where you have failing schools and options. for example, the lines for charter schools in new york city are out the door. one of the things you often find in rural areas is apathy towards the issue among the votest. well, it doesn't really impact us, but you're saying 88% of republicans, they support it, but are they passionate about the idea of cool choice in those environments? [laughter] >> oh, no. when you're singing for presidents it's it's all the secret service -- will: which one made you the most nervous? >> you know, all of them were beautiful opportunities. i'd probably say president trump because with he's, he knows entertainment. he does it very well. rachel: judgy. >> that's right. he's been a big support of my career, and it's always a joy to sing for any president, i tell you. to sing for the white house, the oval office, it's a great honor. pete: well, mary, i've had the chance to hear you sing the anthem multiple times. wow in -- you're in for a treat. it is national national anthem day across the country and here on fox and friends. what is it like for you when you belt it out that way? >> i tell you, as you all know, i love america. america's the greatest country in the world with. we are blessed to live in this great up country. and to have the opportunity to have a career almost 15 years singing the national anthem, our patriotic song, it's such a blessing, you know? if as you all know, or these songs are important to us, especially during this time of year. election years sometimes magnify our differences, but the national anthem, or our patriotic signs remind us that a we're all americans. rachel: that is such a great point. this anthem is a unifying song -- >> yes. rachel: -- and we should treat it that way, and and we should have respect for it. i love it. >> yes. we are -- and i, i have loved traveling the country, now traveling the world singing america's national anthem and reminding us, unifying our heart es and our spirits. like our pledge of allegiance says, we're one nation, under god. and i just, i believe it. that's a so important to reinforce today. on national anthem day, we get to raise the national anthem, we also get to raise the greatness of our country. rachel: that's why we love the arts. will: i'm curious, when you sing the national anthem, is there a portion or a part of it that gets enhanced focus for you either because it's more challenging vocally or because it means more emotionally in. >> you know, i tell you, it's the ending when you sing those, the phrase o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave, you think about freedom, you think about the greatness of america, you know? people come from all parts of the world to come and experience america because we are the bow con of freedom -- beacon of freedom, bee econ of hope to the world. so when i sing those words in the song and i think about the blessing of this country, the freedoms that we have, we should thank god every day for freedom. we should thank god every day for the great country that we live in. pete: absolutely. we've only got a few seconds left, but when did you know you could sing like this?
