dozen israeli hostages handed over. what is their condition, will there be another truce extension? we don't know. we have tal heinrich back with us. so how is 4-year-old abigail doing? an update is coming: welcome. i'm neil cavuto. let's go to northern israel where things stand at this hour. nate with more on that. nate? >> hi, neil. 12 hostages that spent 53 days in hamas captivity are back in israel tonight. happened in the past couple hours. many at shifa medical center and reuniting with their families. as part of this deal, israel re prisoners. the group includes 10 israeli women, two foreign workers. this is the fifth consecutive prisoner hostage exchange. take a look at this. here's the hostages that are finally back in israel. they range in age from 84 to 17. the youngest is mia, the 17-year-old daughter of a 59-year-old woman. they were released with their dog. mia was seen getting in a red cross vehicle with the family's dog after they were kidnapped from a kibbutz on october 7 while they were visiting. first of three u.s. military flights carrying humanitarian aid landed in egypt. it includes medical supplies and food. it happens as israel and hamas accused each other of violating their temporary cease fire agreement today. take a look at this. three explosions in the northern gaza strip injured several israeli soldiers today. according to the idf. it let to a gun fight between soldiers and hamas terrorists. the idf says none of the injuries are serious. meanwhile, the israeli war cabinet is meeting tonight. the two-day extension to the cease fire expires tomorrow. so with that will come another round of hostages tomorrow and people here in israel who have families that are being held by hamas in gaza just wait to see if their family members name will be on that list. back to you. >> neil: i cannot what that wait must be like. thanks. nate foy in israel on that. back with us is tal heinrich a spokesman for the israeli government. tal, good to see you back. >> thank you for having me on. >> neil: let's talk about the dozen today. and the math seems to favor at least three times as many palestinians released as israelis released. >> it's not a perfect outline. let me quote thomas here. there's no good solutions, only trade-offs. this is the only tradesh off we have greed upon. we hope to see the release of more. this is not enough. many more hostages are being held in captivity for 53 plus days now. we hope tomorrow we'll see the mechanism repeating again. we said for every extra ten israel hostages that hamas releases, we'll agree to another day of humanitarian pause in the fighting. and to the release of more palestinian prisoners who were involved in terrorist activities. we have not received a list for tomorrow but we hope to get one. these are nerve racking moments every day for every israeli. people in my country are watching -- glued to their news tv screens and waiting to maybe get this momentary sigh of relief that here, more hostages are coming home. what reality are they coming back to. two siblings, a boy and a girl that were released yesterday and came back and discovered that their mother was killed by hamas terrorists. and their father is still in gaza. we're hearing now about the conditions in which these people were kept. a 9-year-old still whispers her father says because that's what she was used to when guarded by hamas terrorists. a 12-year-old, he told his family members and they told various media outlets that he was being held alone for 16 days in a room without other hostages and hamas terrorists used to beat them up when they showed them the children, the videos of their atrocities from october 7th and when the children cried, they beat them up. >> neil: if it's 70 of the 240 hostages have been released thus far and nowhamas is throwing in the possibility that some of those hostages are in private entity hands, i don't know how that all worked out, but are they just stringing this along, this process? >> you brought up a very interesting point. among the ten hostages, the israeli hostages and two thai citizens that were released today from what i'm hearing is that a few of them were held by palestinian islamic jihad, which is the second largest terrorist organization in the gaza strip. they're fully funded by iran. getting their marching orders by iran. and hamas -- they're getting 93% of their budget from iran. two of them were held by the jihad. what was announced a few days ago, 10-month-old baby bibas is being held by this group. it's an interesting development. we're holding hamas accountable for everything happening in the gaza strip. they are the ones -- >> neil: when they can't identify where the hostages have ended up, do you fear that some of them might be dead? >> of course we're worried. we're praying for the best. what can we do? >> neil: which gets me back to whether hamas with string things along. benjamin netanyahu reiterated this offer to extend the cease fire an additional day for every ten hostages released. he also said that israel would resume its offensive against hamas with all of its power once the cease fire expires. president if i'm hamas hearing that, let's keep delaying and delays. >> the humanitarian pause in the fighting, this day, is supposed to give hamas terrorists, they claim they need to time to fetch the hostages that they need for the same batch that would be released the same day. we're dealing with a brutal terrorist organization. they obviously cannot be trusted as president biden correctly stated. they only respond to pressure. we will continue top exert more military press shush on them. >> neil: do we know anything about the palestinians released? many more than israelis. >> the palestinian prisoners that we've been releasing? there's no comparison here whatsoever. we are releasing people who attempted to stab, murder, burn israelis throwing molotov cocktails at them. i can tell you a story of one of them. in 2014, a woman attempted a suicide bombing. she was planning it in the middle of tel aviv. she wanted to disguise herself as a pregnant jewish woman wearing an explosive belt. she was released last year. we arrested here again because she was planning additional adash on israelis. >> neil: how do we know there's not more being released by israeli? >> again, it's not a perfect deal. it not what we wanted. we value life. we're proud to be a part of this nation that leaves nobody behind. this is the deal that we -- >> neil: do you fear the people you are releasing could come back and do what you cited there? >> of course it's a worrying situation. it's a very disturbing situation. but, you know, hamas terrorists know that we value life so much and when you are a part of a nation that values life, it makes you vulnerable. we should say it. >> neil: you're doing yeoman's work trying to get the government out there where this is going. there was an effort a couple weeks ago by this coalition government that they're getting matt at benjamin netanyahu. one member talked the opposite leader. maybe he should go. someone should take it place. is it holding together or are nerves frazzling? >> the unity government is holding together. it's reflective of the public sentiment in israel right now. >> neil: so the one opposite leader that says he has to go. is he a distinct minority then? >> when he was interviewed on american media, he said we are united right now. when hamas butchered our people, nobody cared who they voted for. everybody understands that. >> neil: thanks, tal heinrich. a veteran israeli journalist in her own right keeping us posted on the developments. just to bring some numbers up to date before we go to a quick break here. 70 of the 240 hostages have been released thus far. there's talk of extending this pause in activity to allow more to come back. but again, no firm word on that, whether this will extend in to a sixth day. meantime, the story of a 4-year-old, her great aunt on a remarkable return to safety. what that little girl is finding out is jarring. the great aunt is next. e is josa and i am the owner at isla veterinary boutique hospital. i was 5...6 years of age and i knew i was going to be a vet. once alexandra called me to let me know that bank of america had approved my loan... it was important to me. we not only just provide the financing piece, we do everything that we can to surround them with the right people. all you need is a perfect, amazing team that will guide you through the right steps to be successful. and that's what bank of america was for me. we handcraft every stearns & foster using the finest materials, like indulgent memory foam, and ultra-conforming innersprings, for a beautiful mattress and indescribable comfort. for a limited time, save up to $800 on select stearns & foster adjustable mattress sets. i was stuck. unresolved depression symptoms were in my way. i needed more from my antidepressant. vraylar helped give it a lift. adding vraylar to an antidepressant... is clinically proven to help relieve overall depression symptoms... ...better than an antidepressant alone. and in vraylar clinical studies, most saw no substantial impact on weight. elderly dementia patients have increased risk of death or stroke. report unusual changes in behavior or suicidal thoughts. antidepressants can increase these in children and young adults. report fever, stiff muscles, or confusion, as these may be life-threatening, or uncontrolled muscle movements, which may be permanent. high blood sugar, which can lead to coma or death, weight gain, and high cholesterol may occur. movement dysfunction and restlessness are common side effects. stomach and sleep issues, dizziness, increased appetite, and fatigue are also common. side effects may not appear for several weeks. i didn't have to change my treatment. i just gave it a lift. ask about vraylar and learn how abbvie could help you save. >> neil: some sad news to share with you. charlie munger, the side wick for warren buffet, is dead. almost 60 years they transformed birkshire hathaway. the two of them quickly became multibillionaires. but, you know, warren buffet himself said that birkshire hathaway could not have been built to its present status without charlie's inspiration, wisdom and participation. i remember matter a chat with charlie munger. he was brilliant. there was no doubting that. for warren buffet to say he could have not had the success he did without charlie munger at his side, it says a lot right there. keep you posted on that. we don't know exactly from what he passed. he was at a financial function in which he warned the markets can fool you. he built a life on that. he would just zig and zag with the best of them. there's some good news. we get all of this horrific stuff out of israel and the release of hostages including abi abigail edan. i apologize to the great aunt that joins us now. liz, thanks for joining us. how is she doing right now? >> abigail is free. she's with her family. she's with her brother and sister. she has no parents. her parents were murdered. so she's come home to not having her parents. but she has a beautiful extended family, amazing aunts and uncles and grandparents. the highlight is when she saw her sister and her brother and her cousins and they came to visit her, that's what illuminated her. that's what made her smile and laugh. so how is she doing? she was a hostage for 50 days. she saw incredible atrocities before she was taken as a hostage. and she's a little girl. she has her whole life. we'll watch and see how she will be. right now he's surrounded and embraced with lots of love. >> neil: benjamin netanyahu said that he she could depend on a country to hug her back. as you said, her parents are gone. i'm wondering who will care for her, who will do all of that. >> well, she will live with her aunt and uncle. so her mother's sister and husband and three kids. abigail and her brother and sister will be living with them. the grandparents will be nearby. it's new. their home was destroyed. they can't go back. not only do they have this devastating loss but they have to come up with a new life and find a new place for themselves to live. my hope is that abigail and her siblings will get to go to school season and start to live what we all consider a normal child's life. >> neil: i cannot imagine, what you and your family had to go through here. because just taking as a hostage a little girl, first of all, you just can't get in the mindset of that. we are noticing this ongoing hostage release. you said very eloquently that you hope this process continues. but qatar is playing a key role in how this all happens. you have been very grateful and thankful for qatar to that. but qatar is the same country that house as lot of these hamas militants. i mean, it's got to be with some mixed emotion. >> well, i'm neither a diplomat or politician. i'm here because of abigail and the other hostages. there's over 150 people, people, when you say hostages, sometimes we forget they're mothers, fathers, children. there's nine americans that still have not been released. so when you ask me that question, all i can look at is these families that i have become close with, many of them i've heard their stories. and these are 150 people that are families are waiting to embrace them like we have been able to embrace abigail. so while i understand there's all of this political ramifications, my focus and the reason why i'm here and the work i'm trying to do in association with so many is focus on how do we get these people home as quickly as possible to their families. >> neil: that's a worthy goal and more than the politics on it. i'm curious to get your thoughts on how this process moves forward. generally the longer the pause in hostilities, cease fire, whatever you want to call it, hamas is holding out the possibility the more hostages will be released. do you believe that? >> i am a hopeful person. i believe that we all -- and that includes the u.s. government, the israeli government, qatar, egypt, all of these groups and government agencies, their focus has to be to figure out how we get out these civilians. how we get out these hostages. so whether it's a continuation -- again, i'm not a diplomat or military specialist. what i understand is the real healing will start for so many when these people come home. as long as there's hostages and we don't get them home, it's very hard for many of us to move forward. and for me, you know, abigail came home. she's -- she was a miracle to come home after all that happened on october 7th. and i look at it and i think to myself, we need to keep that hope alive. again, i speak from my heart, which is how do we get these families home. how do we look at a child like abigail and say we need to make this world a better place for all of our children. so for me today and my focus is how do we get these hostages home so that we can move forward. i think that should be everybody's goal. i mean, this is humanitarian and that's why i'm doing this. these are human beings. >> neil: does she, liz, avigail, share much of what she saw that day, october 7th? >> i'm not at liberty. she's a 4-year-old. we're doing all we can to protect her. the family's privacy and her ability to get through these days of just coming home. show just got back two days ago after 50 days. the one thing that i will say is that during this time when we had no idea where she was, she was taken off the kibbutz with another mother and her three kids. all i thought is this mother would be taking care of her and she wouldn't be alone. she knew this mother. she went to nursery school with this woman's youngest child. so they were all hostages together. what i can only say is that this woman embraced her, hugged her, took care of her. look, avigail, 50 days. no child should be a hostage for a minute. what i can say is when she came out, she was hungry, she was thirsty. she needed the love and attention. that's what she's getting. so from a perspective of a 4-year-old and what i know from a lot of these kids coming out, it's a process. you have to let them speaks. she's 4 years old and only home two days. so much is yet to come. i will say the family is very supportive and doing everything that they can to assure that her reintegration and coming home to the family will be as positive and successful so she can live a life a beautiful life. >> neil: i have no doubt she will especially with great aunts and relatives like you. liz naftali, thanks for sharing that. >> thanks for having me today. >> neil: changes in the war right now, especially on who we recognize as real terrorist threats and what could be a big change of views from the administration when it concerns a certain group. jennifer griffin with more on that. jennifer? >> neil, we are just briefed here at the pentagon. i'll have new details about how the u.s. military is still being tested in the middle east. discoveries at st. jude have helped increase the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80%. so when you support st. jude, you're helping more kids grow up to be whatever they want to be. like this kid, who's a high school track star. and this kid, who was elected to state office. and this kid, who has three kids. marlo thomas: give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give a gift that could last a lifetime. >> it's a very good decision by the administration to regin that review process. when you look at what the houthis were original, it was a proxy war being raged between saudi arabia and iran between the sunni majority government. what has happened with the houthi rebels is iran is now using them as a proxy group to destabilize the region and continue the pressure upon both israel and now the united states as well. the fact that they're operating in a manner where they're shooting toward israel, which is shooting toward our ships. they're conducting piracy operations. this is more indicative of a terrorist organization, not just a regional proxy war fighting for control of the country. >> neil: you know, we go after these proxy organizations, commander and you and i chatted about this before. if iran knows that we're not about to sort of fiddle with iran directly on iranian soil, what is to stop iran from continuing these sponsored attacks knowing full well that we wouldn't dare cross that line? they're sort of teasing us, tempting us. >> martha: they're doing more than tempting and teasing. they're going to continue to engage in that actions and those behaviors whether it is in yemen, syria, lebanon. they're going to continue and clearly we saw how they primed and armed hamas to do the horrific attacks on october 7th and the continuing fight that they continue to wage. >> neil: how do you get them not to do that? i can understand our reluctance to go on iranian soil and do that and some fear it's world war iii. you're better than i'll ever be. but they're i'm bottlened to keep doing because we're not going to do that, right? >> you're right. what we need to do is the giant staff in coordination with central command in the middle east, we should prepare a very robust strike package that if these individual proxy groups want to try to attack u.s. forces and our allies, we need to strike them, flat footed and hit them hard. the only thing that iran and the proxy groups will understand is clearly power. i know that united states under the biden administration wants to continue to work with iran and try to make them a responsible partner in the region. that is a failed policy goal. at this point, the united states must prepare to be able to strike these groups in a manner that takes away their capability to shoot at israel, to shoot at us and endanger our allies. >> neil: what do you make of china and russia's role thus farce? >> i think it's -- no, it has absolutely happened. in fact, between now and iowa, things change. between iowa and new hampshire will be the next contest. that has happened many times. trump himself didn't win iowa back in 2016. a state he didn't win. so he went on to win new hampshire. it's not over. look, i wrote my column about the mixed feelings that people have, the intensity of the mixed feelings that people have. >> neil: but you were more select. the conservative movement, the maga crowd and the other crowd. >> yeah. the debate -- >> neil: but they were taking past each other. >> that is -- a lot of people feel that way. a lot of people are not sold on donald trump. they worry about him and his character and personality ant don't think he should be president again. at the same time, there's a lot of challenges facing this country. they don't want to let the democrats back in. biden has shown what he can do with a small majority. the way i describe it, the intensely mixed feelings people have -- a good friend of mine has a phrase. there's a jewish friend of mine has a yittish fresh that describes intense fieldings. the mixed feelings are, it's the kind of feelings you have when you see your grandmother driving over a cliff in your new mercedes. that's how people feel about trump. on the other hand, we need to win it. maybe trump is the only person with the charisma and the standing and the ability to pull those new voters together. >> neil: it be remiss if i didn't talk about the passing of charlie munger. he and warren buffet were batman and robin. >> yeah, he was the kind of quieter second fiddle to warren buffet. everybody that knows warren buff if it knows that -- they were an incredible team. >> sharp as a tack. >> everybody likes the way buffet speaks. munger was sharper tongue and blunter. so yeah, it's a loss obviously. a great life, a great career. meanwhile warren buffet goes on. >> neil: thanks, gerry baker. read his column today. a battle royale between the two sides of the republican party that still can't get on the same page. meantime, there's this. all right. a train right now coming to the united states. i don't know where it was going to end up going. i don't know if they keep track of the migrants coming into this country and ultimately when that train stops where they go. madison alworth in eagle pass, texas on the fallout from that. yet another train load. >> yes, neil. yet another train. that train left central mexico yesterday. it's headed for just across the river here from eagle pass. what we're being told is the train will arrive at some point this week. once it arrives, what we're being told by texas dps, the hundreds on the train will do one of three things. they'll continue further in to a didn't part of mexico before crossing in to the u.s. they will wait in holding shelters until it's their time to cross here in eagle pass or they'll cross immediately. if they do so, they will join the thousands that are crossing here daily. on monday, there were 2,200 illegal crossings here alone. that number high for this time of year when the bad weather normally keeps crossings lower. because of the increased levels of migrant encounters, customs and border patrol has suspended vehicle traffic at the eagle pass international bridge 1. as you can see from our live coverage right here with our drone team, the traffic is still flowing from the u.s. headed in to mexico. the other side, traffic from mexico to the u.s., that is completely shut down. the decision was made as a direct response to the influx of encounters that we're seeing here. border patrol agents needed to be re-routed to help migrant intake custody. the same was done in another part of the state as well. lukeville, arizona. when you talk about these crossings in fiscal year 2024, we've seen over 350,000 encounters with border patrol. that's just two months of crossing. back to you. >> neil: incredible. madison, thank you. to my friend chris olivarez, texas department of public safety. chris, you've endured a lot of questions by me. i'm willing to kickoff one right now. where are those migrants are those train going to end up and is anybody following them? >> well, neil, they're going to end up at some point in the united states, whether it's texas or arizona, a common method of traffic using the rail transit system, how they get through mexico and make to it the northern part of mexico where they cross into texas or arizona. that's what we see with the increase of illegals crossing between ports of entry. what that shows you, neil, that video right there, that there is no consequences from the federal government to prevent illegal border crossings. along as the federal government continues to incentivize and reward illegal immigration, we'll continue to see the trains to transport these migrants further to the border to their entrance through texas or arizona and those are the challenges that we face as a state. >> neil: so dumb question number 2. why doesn't mexico do something to stop the train or at least check who is on the train? >> that is a great question, neil. that's something that we've been experiencing the last three years now. that's why i say it's very important for the federal government, they need to put pressure, create policies to prevent illegal border crossings but put pressure on the mexican government to stop the flow of illegal immigration in their country. they're moving freely through mexico. we see it in texas and other parts along the border because there's no consequences from either side, from the u.s. and mexico. >> neil: you know, the fact of the matter is, chris, there's little done on the part of president obrador in mexico to deal with this. he praised president biden. didn't build the wall. we welcome that development. whatever he's saying is obviously giving a green light to continued activity here. that doesn't change. >> it doesn't, neil. when you see the number of people coming across, moving through mexico, that only enriches the mexican drug cartels. obviously they're facilitating the human smuggling part. when you see the number coming across by the thousands and no consequences, no type of did -- deterrence from the mexican government. there needs to be some type of dete deterrence. we're having to shoulder that burden because our own government fails to secure the border and allows illegal immigration to take place by rewarding them. >> neil: thanks, chris. you warned us. i do want to end again telling you that charlie munger, the 99-year-old investment sensation behind warren buffet, the two used to be like a financial batman and robin, very funny, very sharp. now very much history. gone at 99. an incredible career in business. >> dana: hello
