In a speech no sitting president has delivered in more than half a century, Joe Biden confirmed his decision to drop out of the race to the american people. It was time for new voices and, yes, he acknowledged, younger voices. So i have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. Thats the best way to unite our nation. Nothing could get in the way of saving democracy, said president biden, including personal ambition. He painted Novembers Vote as a choice between forwards or back, hope or hate, unity or division. Despite republicans calling for him to resign the presidency, Mr Biden said he had no intention of stepping aside. Over the next six months, i will be focused on doing that means ill continue to lower costs for hard working families, grow our economy, ill keep defending our personal freedoms and our civil rights, from the right to vo

Devastated the state 16 years ago today. It s too early to assess ida s huge swath of damage, but the wrecking power is obvious. Just look at this video right here. Flooding is widespread in ida s path and some areas could see up to 20 inches of rain. More than a half million homes and businesses are without power, and that number is sure to climb. Officials say it could take weeks to restore power. The levee system in new orleans vastly upgraded after katrina is holding so far. The state s governor says hurricane ida will be the levee s most severe test. Let s go to the cnn weather center and meteorologist tom sater. Tom, are you surprised this is still a category 4 storm hours after it made landfall? very surprised really. We knew it was going to hit with a punch, and we knew because it was kind of small and compact in its size that it would act as a cannonball and shoot inward. Just moments ago, we can now say it s weakened to a category 3. That s still amazing to me. To see the out

Hundreds more leaving daily. Could make it difficult to get people that are trapped outside of the kabul air and wanted american help. What is interesting to know and why we re going to go to this pentagon briefing, in each and every cases of these rescues outside the perimeter, the taliban has done nothing to disrupt the efforts or to interfere at all. That s raising concerns at the same time hope that there could be more of these missions to get more americans out. Before i go to john kirby, another development that you heard in the last hour, this notion that we might have all of 4500 americans left there. That s hard to quantify and seems like a guess. But if that is correct, it does sort of dispute the other numbers that we ve seen. Furthermore, records that there s 1,500 that might remain and many that might not want to go we ll explore that in more detail and try to understand how that could possibly be. Meantime, let s go to the briefing. We ll make the right plans to do that.
