unprecedented air strike continues into the gaza strip. the hostage situation is very serious. the u.s. is rushing ai is a foxm kevin corke live in washington. several rockets have fallen into sidrat, israel. this just happening a short time ago. so we know that buildings there have been hit and we have reports of at least one injury. this follows hours of heavy bombardment into gaza. the israeli defense forces conducting hundreds of airstrikes early this morning. at the same time, thousands of israeli infantry troops are staging near the border with gaza. we are joined by international correspondent trey yingst with the very latest. trey, what can you tell us from your vantage point? yeah, kevin, there was another massive barrage of rockets this morning toward the city of sderot and the israeli military says nine of them hit buildings or open areas indicating israel's missile defense system. the iron dome may have been overwhelmed by that barrage. it's been a constant flow of rockets into southern and central israel since this attack started on saturday morning. we also know the israelis are continuing their strikes against the gaza strip and what appear to be a coordinated effort to ultimately move into gaza. in one neighborhood this morning, there were 80 strikes and overnight reports of 450 strikes in a different neighborhood inside gaza, all along the border where the israeli forces would first move forward. so it is certainly a fluid situation. there is not a clear timeline on when exactly israeli forces would move into gaza, but we've seen the tanks or the apcs and thousands of soldiers that do appear that they're preparing to do just that. kevin, what what is your sense, trey, as you listen to the coverage, naturally, there's one vantage point where you are in the midst of it and yet i know that you also have an ear on the ground with what the people are seeing and hearing and how the coverage is going. tell us about that defense is if people are prepared for this, they are. they have a reserve force that is hundreds of thousands of people strong and already 360,000 have been called up. and so there is a sense that the country will be at war for months. it's not clear exactly what the plans are with gaza, but just based on the indications we have from reporting this morning, the israelis are going to try and get rid of hamas and hamas is built all throughout gaza. they have infrastructure. they have rockets and weapons and so doing that will take time. and it will be be challenging because remember, there are also dozens of civilians and soldiers that were kidnaped now taken hostage inside gaza. so there are just a number of things at play that are going to make it even more challenging for the israelis when they do go in. i know that you have your hands full and i know that there is this separation, trey, between having to do your job, but also your human being. you see things, you hear things, you witness things. i'm just curious, how are you processing knowing some of the reports i've seen about little babies being hurt? i can just tell you here domestically that is really hit. people like a ton of bricks. there's a very strong and visceral reaction to some of the reporting that we're seeing here. i'm just curious how is it landing, if you will, not just with you, someone covering it, but also what you're noticing in the coverage? it's very difficult. these are the worst atrocities committed against humans that are possible. the militants that crossed into southern israel showed no mercy to women and children. this was not a combatant on a combatant fight. this was a coordinated effort to slaughter as many people as possible while they couldn't reach people in their shelters, they burned down their homes. they killed their families in front of other family members before kidnaping and torturing them. um, it is it's critical to understand just how horrible this is. so on a personal level, it's horrible to witness, but it's the work that we do is to bear witness to these things so that others can be informed and on a professional level, these stories are very delicate to tell because people's lives have been shattered and they've experienced a level of trauma that's hard to comprehend. the trauma that we feel just looking at it is nothing compared to the trauma of experiencing it firsthand. so it's just a horrible situation. and even today, they are finding more bodies right now as we speak. we're on the way to the police station in stoke where that rocket fire happened just last hour. and we're told they're pulling bodies out of the rubble, likely fighters from hamas. we do believe they've recovered most of the police officers that were in that building. but it just gives you a sense of how active the scenes are here. i can only imagine and having covered some conflicts in the past, you know this keenly. well this is one of those things where you just have to put your head down and do your job. and yet at the same time, there is so much happening friends, family, neighbor, colleagues, all impacted by what's happening. and by the way, there are innocents all throughout this conflict that through no fault of their own that unfortunately will be suffering. trey, we want you all to be safe. naturally, our thoughts are with you and we wish you
