help. i'm neil cavuto. this is "your world," a busy one at that. mike tobin is in mayfield, kentucky with the latest there. mike? >> investigators with the national weather service specializing in big tornadoes have been brought in to put a rating on the engine that caused this destruction. it's really a remarkable tornado. they're looking at the possibility of a tornado with multiple vortexes. that means tornadoes within tornadoes. the intertornadoes being stronger. despite three teams of investigators, the rating is taking a long time. simply because there's so much destruction to investigate. destruction to the extent that people that live in this area got out saturday morning and didn't recognize their home towns. >> more than anything right now, he has the ability to use the bully pulpit to call out the democratic mayors and governors that are making the people of this country less safe. >> with 600 guardsmen activated, there's 74 dead. it's still a search and rescue operation. the sound of heavy equipment is constand in mayfield. debris is loaded and hauled away. the governor called it a relief. a light at the end of the tunnel. >> feels pretty good to not just be pushing this stuff out of the way but to be loading it up and taking it out of town. there's something therapeutic about taking that chaos and destruction and death and getting it out. >> neil, the national weather service started posting bulletins that conditions were ripe for something bad to happen about two hours ahead of the tornado touching down. it's hard to tell how many people were helped by that because you don't have a statistic for how many people weren't hurd. >> neil: you've covered so many of these. the damage is stunning. >> it is something that i haven't seen before. a mile wide in some places according to the national weather service. but when you're in the center of it, you can't see the edges of the destruction. usual you'll see a tornado hop along, cause problems, touch town in an area that is not populations. to have one take a foot hold on the ground and drive like a lawn mower over 200 miles is something i have never seen before. >> neil: the president is headed to mayfield, kentucky tomorrow. what does my next guest want to hear from him? tyler goodman is a county commissioner. he was kind enough to join us right now. tyler, how are things looking there right now? >> well, it's very busy right now. i mean, there's rescue teams there's red cross, utility crews, road crews. there's people everywhere in mayfield. everybody is here to help. it's good to see the outpouring of support. >> neil: what do you most need right now, tyler? >> well, really we need the utilities back on, the transportation department has done a great job clearing things off. we've had donations come in as far as pennsylvania, new jersey, arkansas. we are blessed with the outpouring of support. we have water, blankets, personal products, food, food trailers. just a variety of things. it's been a ton of support from people. >> neil: i don't know how much you would know about this, but we keep hearing from the governor. there's bitter than 100 people that are missing. could it be with power outages and cell phone service out, they're fine but just have no way to reach anyone? >> that's entirely possible. there's been volunteer crews and rescue crews going house to house, business to business, building to building searching for people, clearing off certain areas. that will be answered as time goes forward. communication is still an issue. that could be part of the problem. >> neil: what do you want to hear from the president tomorrow when he tours where you are right now? >> i think what we want to hear is we're with you now but we're with you in the days, weeks and months to come. we'll help you rebuild. we're here for you. we want to see mayfield succeed because we know we will rebuild. we would like to have support from the state and federal level. i believe we'll get it. >> neil: i know you've been asked this many times about the warnings that went out that night. we know they were constant. but did people have enough time? >> i would say with this storm being as large and on the ground as long as it was, it was on the ground from jonesboro, arkansas through kentucky. we did have quite a bit of notice. a lot of people were able to get out, get to a basement or safe place because of that advanced notice. >> neil: best of luck with this. tyler goodman, the great county commissioner ahead of the president's arrival tomorrow. the red cross is on the scene as it always is in terms of times of crisis. holly baker from the red cross joining us now. holly, how are things looking there to you? >> well, thanks for having me. i'm here on the ground in mayfield, kentucky. i can tell you that everything that we've heard, all the images that you've seen, it's so much worse in real life. the devastation is real. i can tell already that the community is coming together. the red cross is here. we've identified several partners on the ground as well and we'll be a part of this response as long as needed. from what i can tell, it will be weeks if not months that we'll be here. the people that experienced this, they're going to be talking about this and dealing with this for probably years to come. it's that big of a disaster. it's huge. >> neil: how do you coordinate that, holly? >> well, we have an amazing work force of volunteers. we're 90% volunteers at the red cross. so we have volunteers on the ground from the area that we're here already, the kentucky red cross. red cross from around the count trip, including many in the unaffected areas, making their way here. many are already here. they're a part of this response as well. we're going to provide comfort and hope and we already have many shelters set up, including one here in mayfield. right now we're helping people with those things that they don't have when you lose everything in the middle of the night. replacing graces, getting prescriptions refilled and looking at the long-term and trying to determine what needs will be needed here. like i said, this is a major response. >> neil: obviously where you're standing, the epicenter of this but it affected illinois, arkansas, tennessee. how does the red cross coordinate that with private entities on the ground? as you move from here, obviously, you spread out to the other areas hit. maybe not as hard but hit hard. >> yeah, this is a large scale multistate response. i'm from illinois. we were hit there as well. people in southern illinois, people in tennessee, arkansas and everywhere. so we work together. kind of figure out how we can make the biggest impact and use our resources and connect with other agencies as well. a disaster like this is so big. no single organization would meet the needs. we're going to try to bring comfort and hope for tomorrow and make these people feel like they are not alone. i spoke to many local people today. a man who said he was 59, who lived through his life, had never seen anything like this. another man i spoke to said he knew somebody that lost their brother in all of this. i can just tell that people are going to need healing. that's what we're here for. we have volunteers here who are specializing in disaster mental health, in case work, in everything that might come from a disaster like this. so we're here to help. we'll be here as long as we're needed. >> neil: thanks, holly, for what you and your colleagues are doing. holly baker from the american red cross. we want to update you on another development out of washington right now. that is this contempt vote that they plan to hold for mark meadows, the former chief of staff for president trump for refusing to come and testify before congress to that january 6 committee. of course, when rioters took over capitol hill. the vote is expected to be close. they will subpoena him and force the issue. could mean jail time if he still refuses and could mean some hefty fines. we'll keep a close eye on the vote and keeping a close eye on what you see at the store. inflation. it's running out of control. running at the latest wholesale price report. those are the prices before what you and i pay at the retail level. running at close to a 10% clip year over year. so here's the deal. you're seeing yourself making more money, about 4 to 5% more. but the cost of the things you want to buy are running double that. what do you do? >> that's right, neil. no relief in sight for consumers as price pressures build. we saw a record jump in producer prices in november. that means suppliers are charging businesses at the highest level for their goods since data started being collected 11 years ago. combine that with the highest consumer price jump, that suggests that prices will stay elevated in to next year. so businesses are being businesses meaning that they need to make money. they're going to try to pass on the bulk of any price increases on to consumers with nearly 60% of small businesses raising their prices and that is the highest number since the carter administration in 1979. the majority of wholesale suppliers, construction companies and passing the buck on to consumers and they wes americans are paying more, whether it's at the grocery store or filling up their gas tanks, booking trips or buying furniture. consumers in the midwest and the south are more concerns of a negative inflation impact. residents in the west or the northeast according to the fed surveyed this week. that's why wall street predicts the federal reserve will have to be more aggressive against inflation and sky rocketing prices. the fed will cut back on the bond purchases by 20%. they will likely start raising interest rates in the early spring time with wall street anticipating two or three interest rate hikes next year. the fed tries to battle and bring down the cost of goods. >> neil: thanks, susan. what the federal reserve can do. they've been buying mortgage securities and forcing to keep interest rates down. already indicating and we'll get confirmation of that tomorrow that they're going to slow down on all of that buying and maybe, maybe stop it eventually within just a couple months. that could have an effect on interest rates moving up pretty much by themselves even if the fed doesn't formally raise interest rates to respond to this. all of this with a backdrop of more spending on capitol hill that some worry is going to make a bad thing get worse. hillary vaughn with the latest on that in washington. hillary? >> hi, neil. republicans say the programs and president biden's build back better bill are not going away but are here to stay. the congressional budget office says if that were to happen, the real cost of the build back better bill is closer to $5 trillion. the white house and democrats say that's not fair because they cut programs short on purpose and will extend them on a case by case basis. >> the new cbo score is a fake score about a bill that doesn't exist. the president has conveyed clearly publicly that he would like programs if they're extended to be paid for. >> the federal government is already borrowing to pay the bills we already owe. in october and november, the government brought in $565 billion in tax revenue, but spend over $900 billion, which means we're about $350 billion short. the senate will vote any moments now to raise the debt limit by $2.5 trillion while democrats in congress continue to push for trillions more in new government spending. so i asked senator elizabeth warren about the rising debt that is unaddressed. >> how high you think the debt needs to get before it's time to cut government spending or freeze any new government spending? >> i think you look at this the wrong way. when we have a growing debt load, it's because the revenue is coming in don't match the expenditures. we have a debt problem because the very richest people just aren't paying. >> neil, if you took all the money away from the billionaires in america, that would only add up to about $4 trillion. so when you look at the national debt, you'll still have $27 trillion that you'd need to get the money from somer with else. neil? >> neil: you cut spending less or widen the tax pool further. hillary van following that. rob portman has more on that. what do you think of what senator elizabeth warren said, it's about not taxing the rich much the? >> what is fascinating about that, last quarter looks like our revenues were at a record level. so it's not that we're not taxing enough. we're taxing a lot. a lot of uncertainty. the more you tax the economy, the more you'll hurt working families, all the things in this build back better tax and spend extravaganza to hurt working families so the real issue is spending. spending has increased dramatically. 1.9 trillion in martha was already spent is part of the problem. now they want to make it worse by once again overheating the economy with more stimulus spending that will result in higher inflation. the american people get that because they're going to the store, they're going to the gas pumps trying to buy clothes and everything is going up. you just had a great report from susan li saying it's not only about the consumer prices going up but now as of the new numbers that we just got, it's about the producer price index at historic levels since we started keeping track of it ten years ago, this is upstream. this is not going to end zone and the businesses are raises their prices. >> neil: right. they're explaining what they're doing to pay more for goods and passing it down to the retail level. that's what hits us. the indications are right now that this inflation will stick around awhile. do you think jerome powell and the federal reserve should hike interest rates now? >> they should start tapering as he talked about. you mentioned the effect of that should be to raise interest rates slightly. but what will happen eventually is with this kind of inflation, we're going to have to do something. raising interest rates is the obvious way to do it and has been successful in the past. you don't want to do it too much. you don't want to get to the stagflation of the late 70s and early 80s where you had low growth because interest rates were high, double digits and high inflation. it's a double whammy. the best thing is on the fiscal side. let's take a pause. take a strategic pause. we're in the middle of four things right now. incredibly high inflation, record levels of debt, both in nominal terms and also as a percent of our economy, which is how you have to look at it. a lot of uncertainty because of covid. we have a situation now where unfortunately the covid situation doesn't seem to be getting better as we hoped. then i would just say, we're in an uncertain time here in terms of a lot of other expenditures. look at the natural disaster that just happened in kentucky and the midwest and the south. the other natural disasters. we don't have enough money -- >> neil: so you're arguing go slow on the spending. your close friends with joe manchin. he's been leery of this, worried about inflation. the president was strong arming him when they met on this again, i'd assume. you think he will end up voting for this? it's a gut call on a colleague and friend. i understand. what do you think? >> he's a colleague and friend. i don't know the answer to your question. what i do know definitively if he voted for something would be a lot smaller than $6 trillion and $3.5 trillion. they claim this is 1.7 trillion. but by the way, on that issue, whoever is talking about $1.7 trillion because these things are all temporary, these spending programs, doesn't realize that what congress does when there's a program like the child tax credit, we tend to extend it year after year. that's why the real cost of this as the cbo said is closer to $5 trillion, 82 which is just -- i'm glad you said that. that is what was asked the minority members of congress, if they did not just sort of die on the vine, what would this be. that's when they came up with that $5 trillion figure. >> there's no better example than right now. so what is happening today in congress, democrats are being pressured to vote for the build back better legislation. why? because at the end of this year, what expires? the child tax credit. they're pushing people to give that another year. what will happen a year from now? what will be different? once again, the same pressure. it's very, very likely to happen because that's what happens around here. meaning the real cost of this legislation is far higher than advertised. the revenue to pay for that is far lower than advertised. it creates big deficits and creates this issue where we're adding more to inflation in an economy that is already suffering too much. it's getting -- middle class families, lower income families are taking the hit here. >> neil: we'll follow it very closely. could be anyone's guess if they take that measure up. report portman. >> thanks, neil. >> neil: the senate is taking up this debt ceiling increase measure. that's not expected to run into any problems. the house separately taking up this measure to go ahead and punish mark meadows, the former chief of staff for donald trump for saying that he was not going to testify of the committee that is looking to the january 6 attacks on the capitol. now they're ready to slap him after this. in a recent clinical study, patients using salonpas patch reported reductions in pain severity, using less or a lot less oral pain medicines. and improved quality of life. that's why we recommend salonpas. it's good medicine. bye mom. my helpers abound, i'll need you today. our sleigh is now ready, let's get on our way. a mountain of toys to fulfill many wishes. must be carried across all roads and all bridges. and when everyone is smiling and having their fun i can turn my sleigh north because my job here is done. it's not magic that makes more holiday deliveries to homes in the us than anyone else, it's the hardworking people of the united states postal service. ho ho ho! it's the hardworking penot again.e oh no. for the gifts you won't forget. the mercedes-benz winter event. this is the sound of nature breathing. and this is the sound of better breathing. fasenra is a different kind of asthma medication. it's not a steroid or inhaler. fasenra is an add-on treatment for asthma driven by eosinophils. it's one maintenance dose every 8 weeks. it helps prevent asthma attacks, improve breathing, and lower use of oral steroids. nearly 7 out of 10 adults with asthma may have elevated eosinophils. fasenra is designed to target and remove them. fasenra is not a rescue medication or for other eosinophilic conditions. fasenra may cause allergic reactions. get help right away if you have swelling of your face, mouth, and tongue, or trouble breathing. don't stop your asthma treatments unless your doctor tells you to. tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection or your asthma worsens. headache and sore throat may occur. this is the sound of fasenra. ask your doctor about fasenra. >> neil: all right. there's a debate going on on capitol hill for a resolution that find mark meadows in contempt of congress for defying a subpoena related to the january 6th committee investigation where the capitol was stormed. liz cheney was up there. we're hearing from representatives from democrats and republicans to say that this action was necessary. they thought that they had cooperation for the former chief of staff and he changed his mind, did a 180 and said he wouldn't cooperate. they're forcing the issue by trying to force him with this resolution to hold him in contempt of congress if he doesn't change his mind. we'll continue monitoring this on capitol hill, if and when they get to a vote. that was unanimously voted on in the committee looking to the january 6 events. it's expected to pass, this contempt of congress resolution in the house but close as a tick. we'll follow that and waiting to hear anything from mark meadows and any of the key confidants around president trump around this. meantime, omicron is spreading worldwide with cases over 200,000 in britain alone. they're doubling right now. theres a death in britain to talk about. overall, the impact has been surprising. it's a very contagious variant but right now all that dangerous of one. the read on all of this from dr. hopkins. i was worried about omicron and the swift moves that were being taken and since been taken from around the country from an indoor mask mandate in new york to the same in california, to companies also, you know, making much more sweeping requirement restrictions as well. is all of this justified in your eyes? >> we don't know much the about omicron to know exactly how to risk stratify it. i think there was a reflex jump to kind of go back to the early days of the pandemic forgetting that we have seens, anti-bodies, rapid tests and knowledge about how covid-19 spreads. think there was a panic reaction, especially in the travel bans that president biden initiated that are still in place even though there's no reason for them to be there. they ended up punishing south africa. what we're learning is yes, this is more contagious and we know how to do this. it's not as if we're helpless or back to the drawing board. >> neil: doctor, when you see the measures being taken like masks, are they justified or taken out of caution? a lot of people hear them and say not this again. many think a third or fourth booster shoot and they're getting sick of it. what do you tell them? >> covid-19 is not going to be eliminated. we're going to get more variants and likely that we get variants like omicron that get around immunity and infect people. but we have tools and we don't have to go back to those blunt measures many of the places that put these things in place are areas where vaccinate rates are high. what we need is people where they're not vaccinated, where the rates are low, to take this seriously. so what you have this is two-track pandemic where states like new york, cities like philadelphia are aggressive but places in the south, the midwest, they don't really double down on anything, the stuff that they should be doing for dealt they should do for omicron. then we end up in in limbo. the solution to this is get more people vaccinated. even if there's a break through in infection with omicron, you're protected against what matters, serious disease, hospitalization and death. that's what we need to do to increase our resiliency. >> neil: doctor, thanks very much. we needed that, re-assuring and calming words. meantime, you've been seeing these smash and grab robberies. so retailers are trying to fill the void and do something about it after this. hello, for the last few years, i've been a little obsessed with chasing the big idaho potato truck. but it's not like that's my only interest. i also love cooking with heart-healthy, idaho potatoes. always look for the grown in idaho seal. thanks for coming. now when it comes to a financial plan this broker is your man. let's open your binders to page 188... uh carl, are there different planning options in here? >> it's a more comprehensive business. putin is saying hey, if you expand nato to ukraine and that is his red line. that drives anything, that he says the troops could be used and he's saying that because we can't guarantee -- we don't trust nato, which they just said two days ago that we wouldn't put missiles there, so they're saying if you come up to our border, we will also bring missiles closer too. he says let's do do either one. let's have an agreement that nato won't move up, we'll move our troops back and won't put missiles up there. we should explore that as opposed to pushing more. all that does is push russia and china closer together. >> neil: if the chinese were to attack not taiwan but some of these islands that taiwan administers, would that be deemed the same act of war? >> i don't think so. again, over with taiwan, that wouldn't be an automatic trigger for war. god help us if we move in that direction. militarily we cannot compete with china. it would be fool hardy for us to attempt to do so and that's what we should be be telling the leadership in taiwan. we can't. it's not a matter of want to. all we would do is lose a war. we need to take militarily off the table for any of those contingencies. >> neil: thanks, danny davis. taking a look at what is happening in two very different parts of the worlds but may be joined at the hip. as kentucky picks up the pieces, a local pastor is trying to help the community find answers and heap. as a professional bull-rider i'm used to taking chances. but when it comes to my insurance i don't. i use liberty mutual, they customize your car insurance, so you only pay for what you need. wooo, yeaa, woooooo and, by switching you could even save 665 dollars. hey tex, can someone else get a turn?
