a lot of skepticism from all sides. >> you saw the president just last week go to the capitol again. he was supposed to close the deal and instead he made it very clear that the tax and spend multi-trillion dollar bill is tied directly to the infrastructure bill. it undermines the whole process. >> i think it is a short-lived problem. we won't make the mistake we did with affordable care act. we'll promote this and let people know how it is directly impacting them. >> their goal is a complete takeover of the lives of the american people. we are talking about 40 different taxes including all of this extra money for the i.r.s. >> dana: new reaction from marc thiessen coming up. let's go to wilmington, delaware with mark meredith. >> top democrats are trying to reassure the party's base the president's economic agenda is still alive. negotiations on those two massive spending bills are still dragging on and there is no end in sight. the president has been keeping a fairly low profile in delaware for the weekend. on saturday he briefly addressed democrats virtually for a party meeting and told his members they will have to get on the same page if they have any luck staying in the majority after the mid-terms. >> president biden: we need to stay together and bound by the values that we hold as a party. here is the deal, we won 2020 as a unified party and we look to 2022 as we do that we need to stay unified. >> it appears a majority of americans are not thrilled with what they've seen out of the administration so far. a poll saying 53% of the people disapprove of his job performance. the administration isn't worried about day-to-day polls but the poor marks could -- we heard from multiple lawmakers saying the party will reach consensus sooner rather than later. >> i think the ultimate price will be around $2 trillion but the policies that really matter and as a caucus we agree on those. >> there is overwhelming unity in the party about the need to pass both of these bills and do it in a responsible way. >> republicans believe the longer this party infighting drags on voters out in the country will say they're fed up with the dysfunction coming out of d.c. and we've seen one democrat speak out. the democratic candidate in virginia running for governor terry mccauliffe friend of the president who said the president's low approval ratings are hurting his chances in that race. he tried to shift the blame back to washington over the weekend. >> dana: marc, thank you. >> let's bring in marc thiessen. you have the four big ones by the end of the year, debt ceiling, funding the government, infrastructure, massive welfare spending plan. i don't think you should bet against a democratic majority. however, this is a tight schedule. >> it is and they are in danger of coming up empty and they deserve it. bernie sanders said the other day it's unfair that two senators are holding up his socialist agenda. that's not true. 52 senators are holding up his socialist agenda. 50 republicans and two centrist democrats from either deep red or pink state are holding up the agenda. opponents have 52 votes. he has 48. 52 votes is more than 48 votes. he does have two senators willing to compromise but this is the fundamental problems the democrats have. they aren't willing to compromise. they don't seem to recognize the voerts elected -- gave them a 50/50 senate, three-vote majority in the house. not a mandate for socialism but compromise. unless you compromise you won't get anything done. >> dana: you don't have to wait for republicans to warn the president that his poll numbers are in danger of cratering his agenda. a liberal columnist in the "new york times." democrats in danger. they've been unable to deliver much to make their voters happy and major agenda items have been stalled in congress so long that many voters are growing impatient and disillusioned. what's interesting and you saw it today, a piece in the "washington post" today that suggests that what you will start seeing from the media is that it is because they haven't done enough for the far left and that that's why the numbers for the president are down. is that a good read of the polls? >> well again, this unwillingness to recognize their electoral mandate is not for socialism but compromise at the heart of the whole thing. they should have recognized from the beginning they aren't going to get the voting rights bill through or the federal takeover of elections through. they aren't going to get a radical immigration reform bill through. they won't get d.c. statehood or packing the supreme court. by laying this agenda out and making it out like it was going to happen they raised expectations on the left and they will be disappointed. then on things like compromise they could get police reform done. why don't they compromise with tim scott? they turned it down. they got the republicans to go along with the bipartisan. the leftist wing is holding it hostage until they get a 3.5 trillion bill that own centrists in the house aren't willing to pass. they literally are turning down wins in pursuit of an agenda that was never going to happen to begin with. >> bill: wall street editorial board. bernie's surprise medicare bill. democrats want to add benefits to a program already going broke. i don't know why that happens if joe manchin said we can't take care of medicare and social security. i don't know why he from west virginia would green light new spending programs. see whether or not it flies. at the boston marathon today democratic senator kirsten cinema will be bird dogged by some far left groups. how is that for p.r. today, mark? >> i don't get what the democrats are doing. their entire agenda is in the hands of two people. kirsten sinman and joe manchin. they should be courting them and appealing to them. instead they go out of their way. sinema gets followed into a bathroom. joe biden can't condemn that and says it's part of the process? joe manchin, number one priority is restoring bipartisanship. the republicans bail the democrats out on the debt limit to get their act together. what does chuck schumer do? he gives a speech ripping into the republicans forces joe manchin to put his hands in his face and walk away. these are self-inflicted wounds. why are you offending these two people? for me it's great. if you're a democrat and want to get something passed it is insanity. >> bill: fair point. nice to see you today. >> dana: happy monday. senator warren was on msnbc. you will start to see a lot of this. start complaining a lot about the supreme court in anticipation of rulings they think will be negative to them. here is senator warren. >> it is in serious trouble because of the supreme court. it is in serious trouble because of the inability of congress to act. and we're just running out of time. we have got to make change in both places. >> dana: you start to see demands that justice breyer again trying to get him to retire so they can try to get a democrat or liberal-leaning justice in that position. very unlikely to happen. >> bill: filibuster isn't going anywhere. senator coons was with christ wall en. wallace. >> we have to be able to work together. while i completely understand president schumer's deep frustration, the timing may not have been the best. >> bill: you said president schumer. you meant senator manchin. >> i'm sorry. >> bill: president biden, president manchin. biden is not selling this and based on the schedule we saw earlier today at day break he isn't going to be public until late this afternoon if at all. >> dana: a president has to sell it and they tried a little bit last week but did an interview. secretary of energy did an interview with marie claire. i don't think it will move senator manchin to vote for the bill. we'll see. the biden administration terminating all contracts for border wall construction despite the recent surge of migrants there saying the focus is on smarter security at the southern border. we're live right there at the border in la joya, texas, with more. hi, bill. >> good morning. we've known for quite some time the biden administration wasn't planning to finish this border wall project. now we want to show you what it physically looks like forto not build the border wall. look at this video. we were tipped off to this location. you are looking at one location where a bunch of steel that was supposed to go towards the border wall has been sitting in the open baking in the sun and rusting since january. there are 10,000 of these wall panels sitting here. each panel worth about $5,000. you can do the math upwards of $50 million just sitting there going to waste. keep in mind taxpayers have already paid for this. it is bought and paid for and nothing is happening with it. this is one of two locations. there is a second location right down the street from there where there is more panels. over $100 million worth of panels sitting there. i'm told by a federal source they bought enough steel for 100 miles of wall. only 14 was built before president biden halted all construction. look at the second piece of video the drone team shot where we stand here in texas on saturday. you can see more steel synth in the sun going unused. it was ready to go in the ground. they started building the wall where they need it. we see runners here all the time. we've shown you video and you've seen how many people come through this area. border agents tell us they need the wall here and frustrated they aren't going to get it. they can't be everywhere at once. the force would be would create choke points. homan says it doesn't make any sense not to build the wall given the current surge. >> the secretaries decision. let's take another tool away from the border patrol to make their job harder and more gotaways. look where the crisis is now. where are those tens of thousands people of coming across? where there isn't a wall. it doesn't take a border expert to understand walls work. >> and back live. we're showing you the wall starting to be built in texas. they only got a half mile of it up. abruptly ends in the middle of nowhere and useless. we watch the migrants walk around it all the time. it is not doing anything. border agents having to run around left and right as runners are constantly coming through. so far this year more than 400,000 known gotaways. those are the only ones we know about, too. we'll send it back to you. >> dana: that's a lot of people. the other thing i noticed this weekend. remember the investigation the administration was doing into the border patrol on horse back? it drags on. it drags on. i think one of the things is they're hoping america forgets about it, which i don't think we will or they're trying to find some way to put them at fault for something that was made up because they misunderstood a photograph and remember the president said they will pay and trying to backfill an investigation is a terrible way to run it. >> bill: good question for psaki and mayorkas. surge of fentanyl plunging a border town in crisis saying it is costing children their lives. >> dana: new questions in the search for brian laundrie. details police say don't add up. >> bill: can your kids go trick-or-treating this halloween? >> thanks, bill. certainly that was the softest discussion he has had on reunification with taiwan in some time. as we know, he gave up discussion of peaceful transition and he has been talking about a forceful takeover and saying words to the effect we won't pass this on to the next generation. in other words, i'm going to resolve this issue myself. i don't want to make too much of the fact that it was a softer in tone because i do believe actions speak louder than words and certainly 150 aircraft as you noted in the introduction over a weekend to include a lot of that being done at night was not only intimidation and coercion and harassment of taiwan, to be sure. and also sending a signal to taiwan's allies in the region that the prc is dead serious about taking over taiwan. but the reality is they are also practicing, bill. and that's why they were flying at night. so i think where we are here, when we look at this situation, the outgoing indo china commander said we're getting closer to this possibly in six years. i think in terms of a potential invasion and taking by force. likely president xi is moving that up a little bit in my judgment. it is not imminent because next year olympics, next year national party congress which they have every five years, big political union and they will certify president xi for another term to be sure and likely 10 years for certain. so nothing there in terms of 2022 or maybe even 2023. after that i do think it's getting closer. >> bill: that fits with what you told us last week here in new york. "new york post." joe biden must stand up to china after the latest threat to taiwan. washington needs to help taiwan become a nut too nut to crack to withstand a blockade. biden must stand up to a dick toreship intent an dominating the world. what does beijing have to do to wake him up? i don't know how to answer that. why didn't we hear about this during the trump years and why is it today in the headlines? >> well, their intimidation and coercion during the trump years was significant. trump was the first president in some time to reach out and begin to strengthen taiwan's defenses and also obviously to counter china. no one had countered china before. president biden came in and took good steps to help strengthen it. the quad alliance. he has met with those leaders as well and now he has an alliance with the u.k. and also with australia in terms of nuclear submarine propulsion. what is missing is for the last 10 years, president xi has really gone after closing the gap that separates congress hong and also taiwan from mainland china. we have seen him crush hong kong. we are talking about specific terms in the past doing the same thing with taiwan by military force if possible. i have think it's time for the biden administration, given xi's behavior and given the fact that the 1979 taiwan relations act says that we have a right to provide the defense to taiwan in terms of its capabilities but it left ambiguous whether we would defend it or not. i think we should remove that ambiguity because of president xi's aggressive behavior and say unequivocally the united states will come to the defense of taiwan if the mainland china takes any military action whatsoever. and let's get this ambiguity off the table. >> bill: maybe we get to that. general, thank you so much. jack keane, peaceful reunification from president xi over the weekend. thank you, sir, nice to see you. >> great talking to you, bill. >> dana: it is getting down to the wire in virginia. the closely-watched governor's race could give us a hint of 2022. sir paul macartney is setting the record straight on who is responsible for the beatles breaking up. ♪♪♪ mm.
