setting across europe that will dominate our weather. it will bring is a lot of cry and fairly warm weather. forthe is a lot of cry and fairly warm weather. for the afternoon we've got rain across parts of northern ireland, northern england, southern scotland, eitherside ireland, northern england, southern scotland, either side of that it's looking a bit drier. temperature is 22-23 in looking a bit drier. temperature is 22—23 in the south, so warmer than recent days, typically the mid further north. this evening and tonight that area of rain is tending tonight that area of rain is tending to peter out across northern ireland and northern england, but it's going to be put particularly persistent across scotland overnight so i really wet like to come, further south, clear spells, a few mist patches and another male night, temperatures in the mid—teens for many others. tomorrow, you can really see where the wet weather is going to sit across much of central scotland, i really wet day there, but elsewhere a lot of dry weather and in the sunshine it will feel quite warm, particularly at this stage in october. we could see 2a—25 towards the south—east but widely high teens or low 20s but contrast that to the temperature under the rain in scotland, just 9 degrees for aberdeen. into the second half of the weekend, we still got the rain sitting across parts of scotland but slowly pushing northwards, more sunshine further south and a warm feeling day, temperatures in the low 20s. it's going to stay warm into the first part of the new week and then turning more unsettled from wednesday onwards. thanks, sarah. and that's bbc news at one. you can keep up with all the latest developments on the bbc website. the news continues here on bbc one, as now it's time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the hello and welcome along to sportsday. i'm adam wild. it's day two of the cricket world cup and things are finally poised in hyderabad, with netherlands taking on pakistan. lots still to be decided at the rugby world cup. we'll look ahead to the final round of group games, where it is all or nothing for scotland. a big fight to come tomorrow for wood and warrington. we'll hear from the fighters ahead of their meeting in sheffield. let's start with the cricket world cup, which continues today after england's defence of the trophy started with that crushing defeat on the opening day yesterday. today it is pakistan taking on the netherlands. netherlands winning the toss and deciding to have a bowl. they did have some early luck, reducing pakistan to 38—3 at one point. but, after that, pakistan rallied. both saud shakeel and muhammad rizwan passing their half—centuries. paksitan though not making it through their full 50 overs. they were bowled out with six balls to spare. 287 is the target for netherlands to win. you can listen to that on bbc sounds and five sports extra. we are at the crunch stage of the rugby world cup as the final round of pool games continues across the weekend. there's a big match for the hosts france later as they take on italy. that group is still far from decided, after new zealand's demolition of uruguay last night. 73—0 was the final score, 11 trys in total for the all blacks, means they are definitely through to the quarterfinals. they will play ireland or scotland, who meet on tomorrow in paris, or defending champions south africa in the last eight. so there's a lot riding on the final match of pool a, then. france are looking to make it four wins from four tonight, but they're up against an italy side keen to bounce back after a heavy defeat last time out against new zealand. italy need to win to stand any chance of reaching the last eight. it is very tight in that group with all three sides potentially finishing on equal points. lots of very complicated permutations. so that game in paris tomorrow, as i mentioned, more very complicated maths to be done as ireland take on scotland. an ireland win and they top the pool, with south africa also going through to the quarterfinals. a scotland win and things get rather harder to work out. it will, almost certainly, come down to bonus points and potentially head—to—heads. scotland haven't beaten ireland in their last eight attempts. ireland, remember, are top of the world rankings and are considered favourites for the cup. we have broken records before or weather it was not winning in paris, in twickenham, not beating england for seven or eight years, so this is another opportunity for them to break another record and we believe in them. we believe where they are mentally, where they are as a group, where they are physically, they are ready to play their best rugby. england will have george ford and owen farrell starting together at fly—half and inside centre for the first time in more than 2.5 years when they take on samoa tomorrow. england have already sealed their quarterfinal place as pool d winners after winning their first three group matches. wales are also assured a place in the last eight, but a bonus point againt georgia tomorrow will mean they finish top of pool d. it's a fourth successive quarterfinal appearance under warren gatland. there have been some ups and downs over the last few years and everyone in this team was confident that we are a better team than we have shown up are a better team than we have shown up points. we wanted to come to this woke up and keep getting better, keep getting and deliver the promises and performances that the welsh public can be proud of and we can be proud of. hopefully tomorrow will be another step forward. hopefully tomorrow will be another step forward. a huge night of rugby league ahead with the start of super league's playoff semifinals. st helens are travelling to catalans dragons. saints will make it five league titles in a row if they can see their way past the french side and beat either wigan or hull kr in next week's grand final. there is extra significance as it could be captainjames roby*s last game should catalans knock them out. it could also be former england captain sam tomkins final game. both are retiring at the end of the season. there is live commentary of this one on bbc five sports extra. just the one game in the women's super league this evening, but it's a big one. manchester united are heading to arsenal and that means a first game against her former club for england star alessio russo. she joined the gunners on a free transfer in the summer. arsenal are looking to bounce back from that rather surprising defeat on the opening day of the season. there's an exciting night of boxing ahead this weekend with the all—british clash for the wba super featherweight title between champion leigh wood and the challenger josh warrington in sheffield. warrington is confident of winning the title for the third time, but will have a job on his hands against wood, who defends the belt for the first time since regaining it in may. i'm not going to bank on my third to knock out, but i'm going to be dominant. josh is very tough. i have been ringside for a number of his last fights. in his last fight he got hurt and was very close to getting stopped just before he got a stoppage. there will be times in this fight when he needs to work extremely hard just to win a moment rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. you are watching bbc news. thanks for being with us for our friday afternoon of lots of politics talk. more now on labour's by—election win in rutherglen and hamilton west. the party's leader described his party's win as a "seismic result". labour received more than twice the number of votes than those of the scottish national party, which had held the seat of rutherglen and hamilton west. labour candidate michael shanks won just under 18,000 votes. the snp's katy loudon came in second. the labour share of the vote is up 2a points, almost as high as it was in 2010 before the snp virtually wiped them out in scotland. that's a swing from snp to labour of slightly more than 20%. the scottish labour leader, anas sarwar, said he believed the result showed that scottish politics had "fundamentally changed". a short time ago, sir keir spoke with bbc scotland political correspondent andrew kerr. take a listen. keir starmer, congratulations on your by—lection victory. we've spoken before, and we've said you had to win here, didn't you? yes, we had to win here. and i was here last week. and when i left, i said to the team, you have to win. they were confident because of the positive case they were making, but they blew the doors off. it was an incredible swing and incredible result, i think vindication of the positive campaign, vindication of the change that we brought about in the labour party, people wanting to come out and vote for a changed labour party. we accept that victory humbly and i just want to say thank you to everybody who did vote labour for the faith and trust they put in us, and we will repay that faith and trust with the change that i know they desperately want to see. considering we're probably seeing pro—union voters swinging behind labour from the tories, from the lib dems, you put a lot of resource into this campaign as well, can this be translated into general election success in scotland, in the uk and get you closer to number ten? i hope so, but i'm humble enough to know that we have to earn every vote, earn every vote in this constituency, earn every vote across scotland, and that we will only do that if we have a positive case of change to put before scotland, a positive case of change to put before the united kingdom. so having changed our party, i want to change politics. but this is a step. this conversation in scotland continues and we will work our socks off day—in,—day out until that general election to earn the trust and the vote of those voting in scotland. now, you spoke on the podium there as well, but this so called positive case for change. but are labour really putting that forward? we don't really know what you want to see in hs2. what you want to see on the two child benefit cap. what is your positive case for change? the positive case for change is the huge five missions that i've already unveiled, and they focus, laser focused on growing our economy in all parts of the uk, especially here in scotland, because that is the single biggest failure of the last 13 years in westminster, the last 16 years in scotland. we have to ensure that we meet the cost—of—living crisis with raise living standards across scotland with good jobs of the future. that will be the central focus of our conference in liverpool.
