hello and welcome. leaders of the g7 group of nations have reinforced their commitment to enhance the economic isolation of russia and step up a campaign against russian elites that are supporting president vladimir putin. the united states has unveiled sanctions against three russian television stations and executives from gazprombank. the uk has pledged to double its military aid to ukraine to £1.3 billion — that's about $1.6 billion. the world's top economies have vowed to phase out dependency on russian energy but bulgaria will not support the european union's new set of sanctions against russia if it does not get a delegation from the proposed ban on buying russian oil. the eu says it will hold more talks monday. joining me now is dr adi imsirovic, senior research fellow at the oxford institute for energy studies. thank you for being with us. these talks continue today with the eu to try to reach some consensus and the sticking point is how to get oil supplies to landlocked countries like hungary, like you and the czech republic. ladarious says it needs more time. a difficult will it be for them to secure other supplies of oil? —— how difficult. supplies of almost 100% of oil via a pipeline from russia. hungary is a lot less dependent because they do have an alternative through the pipeline in the south and they get only 60% of russian oil. however, both refineries are run by the same company that have actually raised objections, which is the hungarian oil company. it's different in bulgaria, 60% of russian oil so probably a lot less than some german refiners, actually, but that refinery in bulgaria is run by russians so there are a lot of political issues, ratherthan there are a lot of political issues, rather than real unsurmountable issues. if crude oil at the moment. we think if the sanctions come in to force, we would probably lose another 2— 3 million barrels. it is relatively easy to make up for that, actually, from the opec countries but we do have a cartel of course that at the moment is very much in bed with russia through the so—called opec plus agreement, or even greater cartel. so it's difficult and is another political problem the us particularly or opec, saudi arabia, how they will respond in the meantime, we will have to rely on some so—called inaudible through higher prices. inaudible through higher rices. ~ ., ukraine, prime minister fumio kishida said on monday. joao da silva is following that story from our asia business hub in singapore. thomas moore. while we don't have the exact details of this in principle ban, it seems like a significant forjapan —— tell us more. tokyo has been very proactive in terms of condemning russia's invasion of ukraine and imposing sanctions but it has been less keen when it comes to banning imports of russian energy because of its heavy energy dependence. so when announcing the ban, the prime minister emphasised how difficult this decision is for his country and also stressed the importance of the g7 partners working together and hinted this would be done in a gradual manner, without giving us a timeline. this is significant because it gives japan some leeway in terms of phasing out those imports from russia while finding alternative sources of energy. a reminder here thatjapan*s energy dependence increased substantially after the 2011 fukushima disaster, when it began shutting down nuclear reactors and today, russia is actually its fifth biggest supplier of lng and oil so again, —— lpg and oilso supplier of lng and oil so again, —— lpg and oil so hello and welcome. leaders of the g7 group of nations have reinforced their commitment to enhance the economic isolation of russia and step up a campaign against russian elites that are supporting president vladimir putin. the united states has unveiled sanctions against three russian television stations and executives from gazprombank. the uk has pledged to double its military aid to ukraine to £1.3 billion — that's about $1.6 billion. the world's top economies have vowed to phase out dependency on russian energy but bulgaria will not support the european union's new set of sanctions against russia if it does not get a delegation from the proposed ban on buying russian oil. the eu says it will hold more talks monday. joining me now is dr adi imsirovic, senior research fellow at the oxford institute for energy studies. thank you for being with us. these talks continue today with the eu to try to reach some consensus and the sticking point is how to get oil supplies to landlocked countries like hungary, like you and the czech republic. ladarious says it needs more time. a difficult will it be for them to secure other supplies of oil? —— how difficult. supplies of oil? -- how difficult.— supplies of oil? -- how difficult. * ., ., ~ difficult. -- bulgaria. ithink slovakia _ difficult. -- bulgaria. ithink slovakia is _ difficult. -- bulgaria. ithink slovakia is almost 100% of oil via a pipeline from russia. hungary is a lot less dependent because they do have an alternative through the pipeline in the south and they get only 60% of russian oil. however, both refineries are run by the same company that have actually raised objections, which is the hungarian oil company. it's different in bulgaria, 60% of russian oil so probably a lot less than some german refiners, actually, but that refinery in bulgaria is run by russians so there are a lot of political issues, ratherthan there are a lot of political issues, rather than real unsurmountable issues. if enough capacity in the world to make up for this shortfall? well, there is, samantha, and certainly we don't know what the shortfall is yet. we think we are losing abouti million barrels of russian crude oil at the moment. we think if the sanctions come in to force, we would probably lose another 2— 3 million barrels. it is relatively easy to make up for that, actually, from the opec countries but we do have a cartel of course that at the moment is very much in bed with russia through the so—called opec plus agreement, or even greater cartel. so it's difficult and is another political problem the us particularly or opec, saudi arabia, how they will respond in the meantime, we will have to rely on some so—called inaudible through higher prices. inaudible through higher rices. ~ ., now, thank you for your analysis. japan says it will take time to phase out russian oil imports after agreeing on a ban with other group of 7, g7 nations, nations to counter moscow's invasion of ukraine, prime minister fumio kishida said on monday. joao da silva is following that story from our asia business hub in singapore. thomas moore. while we don't have the exact details of this in principle ban, it seems like a significant forjapan —— tell us more. tokyo has been very proactive in terms of condemning russia's invasion of ukraine and imposing sanctions but it has been less keen when it comes to banning imports of russian energy because of its heavy energy dependence. so when announcing the ban, the prime minister emphasised how difficult this decision is for his country and also stressed the importance of the g7 partners working together and hinted this would be done in a gradual manner, without giving us a timeline. this is significant because it gives japan some leeway in terms of phasing out those imports from russia while finding alternative sources of energy. a reminder here thatjapan*s energy dependence increased substantially after the 2011 fukushima disaster, when it began shutting down nuclear reactors and today, russia is actually its fifth biggest supplier of lng and oil so again, —— lpg and oilso supplier of lng and oil so again, —— lpg and oil so again, we don't know how quickly this ban will be introduced but it marks a turning point comes to japan's policy towards energy imports from russia.- japan's policy towards energy imports from
