sunny in sandringham today. there is - how is it looking? nice and sunny in sandringham today. there is a - sandringham today. there is a weather pattern that is setting up that will continue into this weekend. we have high pressure to the north, low pressure to the south and that means an easterly wind with our weather coming all the way from finland and the baltic sea. over the next few days that easterly wind is likely to strengthen. if you are a gardener looking for rain, you are out of luck, not much rain at all. always warm up across western areas. temperature contrast today because the winds are stronger. here is the sunshine in the south—west of wales and temperatures are getting up to 18 degrees in that sunshine. different story here though along the east coast of scotland where we have low cloud and temperature is about 10 degrees lower. some of that low cloud will be affecting the north—east of england, many parts of the uk will stay dry and quite sunny through the rest of the day and whilst it is cooler around some of those north sea coast inland, temperatures are widely up to 17 or 18 degrees, could get 19 to the west of london. this evening and overnight, still got the potential for mist and low cloud around north sea coast. later we could see cloud increasing more widely across england and perhaps into east wales as well. clearer skies further west but not too cold tonight, temperatures down to four to 6 degrees. tomorrow we start with much more ploughed across england and wales and that cloud becomes restricted to south wales and southern england where there could be some showers through the day. elsewhere much more in the way of sunshine, away from that low cloud which by this stage is in the far north of scotland. similar temperature contrast tomorrow, cooler around the coast, could make 18 or 19 degrees in argyll and bute. may be a bit more cloud as we head into the weekend. high pressure to the north of the uk, lower pressure bringing wet weather into some other parts of europe and there is strong easterly winds continuing during saturday. we start with more in the way of cloud across england and wales and some showers, those will get pushed away to the west along sunshine to develop more widely across the uk as we head into saturday afternoon. temperatures reaching 16 or 17 degrees, cooler around those north sea coasts with that onshore wind. the winds tend to ease down during the second half of the weekend. showers moving away, a lot more sunshine for england and wales, turning cloudy for scotland. this is where we have cooler air that could head south next week but enjoyed the sunshine for many parts of the country with temperatures again 17 a temperatures again 17 celsius. reminder of our top story... british people and the economy through these times, that's why a few weeks ago we announced £9 billion of support for help with energy prices, raise the national living wage, cutting taxes for 30 a legacy of my time living and working in america, nothing more than that. i always believe i've acted on the advice of officials with regard to my disclosures, but to provide complete reassurance and clarity for everyone, i've asked the prime minister's independent adviser to review all my disclosures to provide that clarity and reassurance for people, and indeed on my first trip last year to the because she recognises this went beyond just doing that, so she will now pay both the uk and foreign taxes on her foreign investments, and i support her decision to do that, with regard to what we are doing to help people right now, with the cost of living in taxes, we are cutting tax and national insurance by raising the national insurance by raising the national insurance by raising the national insurance thresholds to ensure people won't pay a single penny of tax or national insurance on the first 12 and a half thousand pounds they earn. that is a tax, worth around £330 30 million people. have the context. it is wrong to focus on one year, we were the fastest growing economy last year, second fastest... second—fastest this year. and after next year when growth slows down, beyond that, we are the second—fastest year of that than the fastest again for the two years subsequent. i think it's wrong to focus on one year, a performance over the period is very strong. of course we want keep helping people because i know it's a difficult time. by raising the national insurance rituals that mean 70% of workers will actually see a net tax cut in spite of the new health and social care levy coming in to fund the treatments and the backlogs we want to see, we are cutting fuel duty, raising the national living wage, cutting the taper rate on universal credit to help those on the lowest incomes and with regard to energy prices, we have already announced £9 billion worth of support, when we know more about energy prices in the autumn, of course we stand ready to do more, but it will be right to make a decision when we have all the facts, which we will know later in the year. which we will know later in the ear. , . :, :, year. news coming in from the metropolitan — year. group says he's lost his confidence in the prime minister. i'm afraid i'm now in a position where i have to acknowledge that if the prime minister occupied any other office of senior responsibility, if he was a secretary of state, if he was a minister of state, parliamentary undersecretary, a permanent secretary, director—general, chief executive of a private company or a board director, he would be long gone. the reason he is not long gone is because removing a sitting prime minister is an extremely grave matter, and goodness knows people on know i've had something to do with that too. it's an extremely grave matter, an extremely big decision, intends to the history, and all of us should approach such things with reverence and of, and an awareness of the difficulty of doing and the potential consequences, and that is why i have been tempted to forget. but i have to say no, the possibility of that really, for me, has gone. i have to say, i'm sorry, that for not obeying the letter and the spirit, and i think we have heard the prime minister did know what the letter was, the prime minister should be long gone. madam dipti speaker, i will certainly bow for this motion, but really the prime minister should just know the gig is up. let's return live to the house of commons, where mps are debating whether there should be an inquiry into claims that boris johnson misled parliament about lockdown parties. notjust over not just over the notjust over the last few months, we've been calling for the last 15 years. we all know we live in an age of public disenchantment, from that same poll conducted by compassion and politics we learnt a0 perception percent of people have lost trust in uk politicians over the last 12 months. if we look back over the momentous events over that period, from the fall of capital to the pandemic to russian invasion of ukraine and the cost of living crisis, what other conclusion can we draw that we have failed in our duty to seek to uphold the trust of the public? the sense of failure isn't just a the trust of the public? the sense of failure isn'tjust a rhetorical gambit, a professional nicety, an optional extra for us here. from anti—backs as to the valley mayor putin regime, when we fail to confront mistruths, we create a truth vacuum in which division sets holes. when any truth is as good as any other, division along political lines comes to matter more than agreement on the common ground of fax. this matters. we work as an institution where we can't call out the lies of another member, regardless of their position and responsibility, lies which are broadcast around the country, recorded for posterity, and those lies are therefore impressed upon the memories of millions of people. and we have no way of addressing this effectively. i defer to the judgment of the speaker on this matter... ~ , , ., :, matter... westminster leader of plaid cymru- _ borisjohnson has been speaking to the media during his official visit to india. the prime minister was asked why he wanted to delay a vote on an investigation into whether he misled mps about lockdown parties — ahead of the government dropping a plan to stop the vote going ahead today. iam very... let me just say, i am very keen for every possible form of scrutiny and the house of commons can do whatever it wants to do, but all i would say is that i don't think that that should happen until the investigation is completed and that is my only point. i have said this time and again, let's get... let's let the investigators do their stuff and then knock this thing on the head. you are committed to allowing a vote once the sue gray report has come i out and once the met have decided how many fines they are going - to dish out, parliament— will have a vote on whether to ask i the privileges committee to look. at whether you misled parliament? that is fine but i think what i'm saying is that people should have the full facts and in the meantime, what i want to do is get on with the job. here we are in a gigantic newjcb factory, as i say, in gujarat, and an absolutely amazing example of the... what is the word i want? the synergy, the synthesis between uk technology and indian technology. what i am going to be talking about with narendra modi is all the ways in which we are going to develop that partnership. there is a big appetite for that. mps are discussing your probity thisj afternoon in the house of commons and some are saying you did mislead them, with all the statements - you made as these revelations came out, what do you say to them? - i the answer to the straight question, i did you mislead the house of commons knowingly or inadvertently? of course not. it is up to them. they must do whatever they want. that is their prerogative. i want to focus on the amazing opportunities that i think there are in the partnership that is developing between the uk and india. and i spoke just now to an indian company that is interested in building, helping us to build yet more offshore wind farms at a cracking rate and that i think is something that is vastly... which could help us build, you know, add to the gigawatts we need faster than probably any other solution. that is the kind of thing, helping to reduce the price of energy, helping to make energy more affordable, that is the kind of thing... more important than parties, i think you are trying to say, i more important than partygate? i am just going to say to you humbly that i think that is what people want me to be focusing on right now but for my friends in westminster, they must get on with their votes. that's fine. boris johnson in india. it's time for a round—up of some of the other stories across the uk. a mother from york whose son was murdered is campaigning to raise awareness about men suffering domestic abuse. 23—year—old simon gilchrist was stabbed to death by his girlfriend after she'd been on a drunken, violent night out. simon's motherjosie has spoken to bbc look north about tackling the stigma around male domestic abuse in her son's memory. emma glasbey reports. he was my youngest son and i know all mothers say this, but he was a beautiful little boy. he was full of mischief. we always laughed. that's the memories i have, of laughter. simon was 23 when he was murdered. his drunk girlfriend attacked a stranger in a pub, then came home and stabbed simon at their flat in york. he managed to come down the stairs... and there's a telephone box outside. and... he phoned for his own ambulance. and there were witnesses to say that she was still coming down the stairs holding the knife. the police came, my husband went out, he said, "the police are here." you go into mothering mode. he's my son. and i want to see my son. and i need to tell his brother. he's my son. nowjosie has a memory bear, made from simon's favourite shirt. simon's partner was convicted of murder and jailed. it had been a relationshipjosie was always uneasy about. simon changed, in a way. there was a little spark missing. and also, she would, the phone would go constantly. i believe because simon was male, it does not register so much. police are now working withjosie to try and encourage people to talk about domestic abuse in all relationships. it could save a life, couldn't it? that initial tentative discussion with a friend or family member and i think males with their friends have a real part to play in this, that actually, rather than what we would perhaps have seen as playful banter in the past, could be quite damaging and actually they might be actively seeking help and none of us know what people are going through in their personal life, so it isjust to be there for each other. forjosie, raising awareness is something she can do in simon's memory. my hope is that it will help other families. i am still being his mother, this is to give him a voice that i felt that he didn't have. if you've been affected by the issues raised in that report, there are details of organisations in the uk, offering information and support. just go to bbc.co.uk/actionline. or you can call forfree, at any time, to hear recorded information on 0800 077 077. a crackdown on countylines drug dealing took place in dorset today. police raided an address in the bournemouth area as part of operation viper. four people were arrested on drugs offences and drugs and money were seized. our reporterjon cuthill was there. so operation viperjust got under way this morning in dorset. it's all part of an action against county lines. watching it for himself is chief constable of the county, scott chilton. this is to crack down on a problem right across the country, to stop it affecting dorset? absolutely right. this is dorset police's response, which will be enduring, relentless pursuit on county lines. absolutely going to stamp it out. you are upping the stakes now, why now? why the timing? county lines is a problem that is affecting everyone, young people getting affected, getting brought into dealing, communities affected from the harm. this criminality absolutely lends itself to strong enforcement action. so now is the time, part of a new policing vision, part of a new approach. it's about intelligence, it's about operations like this, sending messages out right across the community and the county. yeah, and nationally. dorset won't be a place where we tolerate people bringing class a drugs in to be dealt. i think today is an example where we have gone out there and showed what dorset police do and will be doing daily, regularly, weekly. the problem with county lines is it does target and affect some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, doesn't it? it affects everyone. young people get involved in drug dealing on behalf of bigger drugs gangs, communities are affected, seeing drug dealing on the street and in their neighbourhoods. it is the sort of behaviour that won't be tolerated. of course, there is the impact on crime. people commit crime to fuel their drug supply, so it is important, an absolute priority for dorset police. and a successful result for you today? early indications are it is really positive and successful. thank you for now, chief constable of dorset, scott chilton. this is just the start, we have been told, of tough action against county lines operations right across dorset. a stronger easterly wind today but much of the country will be dry and a great deal of sunshine, temperatures getting up to 18 or 19, killed around some north sea coasts with the wind off the north sea. the risk of some risk around coastal areas. overnight, more cloud coming into the eastern side of england, clear skies out towards the west. despite the clear skies, temperatures should be no lower than around a—6 c by friday morning. we start with more cloud on friday morning, that will get dragged down to south wales and southern england, where there could still be a few showers into the afternoon. elsewhere, some sunshine away from that low cloud, misty weather in the formative scotland. temperatures, 16—17 in many areas, cooler in winds around the north sea coast. over the next few days, will keep the easterly winds, likely to strengthen, always going to be warmer in the west, but not a great deal of rain in the few days. this is bbc news. the headlines. mps vote today on whether there should be an inquiry into claims the prime minister misled parliament about lockdown parties. the prime minister now should be
