hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me are rachel cunliffe, deputy online editor at the new statesman and katy balls, deputy political editor at the spectator. just to bring you at home at the date on the front pages... another tough day for borisjohnson on the front of tomorrow's papers. a yougov poll for the times suggests the conservatives have slumped to their worst rating in 11 months. another day — another lie is the headline on the front of the mirror. the paper says the pm is accused of being untruthful over how refurb costs of his downing street flat was paid for. staying with that story and the telegraph is reporting that the pm's standards adviser, lord geidt, is on the verge of quitting, after accusations borisjohnson misled him over the refurbishment of his flat. about 50 tory mps are prepared to vote against new restrictions, reports the daily mail. the mps describe the plan b measures as draconian, unjustified and contradictory. the i speculates about possible replacements for borisjohnson, if he leaves no ten. it says supporters of rishi sunak are canvassing support and foreign secretary liz truss is *wooing' backbenchers over dinner. sienna miller makes the front page of the guardian after settling her phone hacking claim. she says the sun's discovery that she was pregnant in 2005 forced her to make decisions "about my body that i live with every day". rachel and katie, katie, racheland katie, katie, do rachel and katie, katie, do you want to kick us off with our first paper? bring together all these various themes which do seem to come matter what the story relates to, accusations of dishonesty, not being true, not being up to standards and therefore i do think of that the papers this evening. i'll be back tomorrow night. dojoin us then. coming up next weather and sport and then we are back to singapore from newsday. from all of us here at the studio, have a great night. good evening i'm tulsen tollett and this is your sports news where we start with football and it's been a busy night in europe. leicester city are out of the europa league after losing 3—2 at italian high fliers napoli. seven leicester players missed the trip after a covid outbreak in the squad. they went 2—0 down inside 2a minutes butjonny evans and kiernan dewsbury—hall brought them level. that would have been enough, but eljif elmas scored early in the second half and napoli held on to send the foxes into the europa conference league knockout play—offs in february. rangers were already guaranteed a place in the round of 16, and scott wright put them ahead against lyon in france. but the group winners struck back after half time and equalised via an own goal from calvin bassey. west ham had already progressed to next round as group winners and the only goal of the game at london stadium came from their opponents dinamo zagreb as mislav orsic floated one over alphonse areola meaning the croatians progress second in the group. celtic were already certain to drop down to the europa conference league knockout rounds. tonight they beat real betis 3—2 with david turnbull scoring the winner. tottenham were also due to play in the europa conference league tonight — but their game against french side renne was postponed after a coronavirus outbreak at the club. and it's now been confirmed that sunday's premier league game at brighton has also been called off, following a meeting with the premier league board. eight players and five staff tested positive, prompting the club to close the first team area of their training ground. in the women's champions league arsenal will need a point from their final group c game to qualify for the quarter—finals. that's after the holders barcelona eased to a 4—0 win over them at the emirates. eyetarna bonmati benefited from an ill directed pass from jennifer beattie to score the catalans first as they looked to keep up their 100% record and whenjennifer hermoso scored her second after half time the job was complete, with the gunners now travelling to hoffenheim next week hoping for a draw or better. england face an uphill battle to stay in the opening ashes test against australia after spending a long day in the field on the second day in brisbane. having not played a test match sincejuly after taking a break, ben stokes found himself limping in the field after chasing down a ball and prior to that he'd dismissed david warner early in his innings only to see the decision reversed for a no ball while travis head with an unbeaten century put the hosts in a strong position moving into day 3 at the gabba where they go into it 196 runs ahead in the first innings. and for all the latest you can follow the ashes across the bbc, ball—by—ball commentary on test match special. on the bbc sport website there will be in play—highlights clips alongside live text commentary and there's also a highlights show on the bbc iplayer from 5pm on every day of each test. and thejockey robbie dunne has been banned for 18 months — the last three suspended — after being found guilty of bullying and harrassing rival bryony frost. an independent disciplinary panel found dunne guilty of four charges, of conduct 'prejudicial to the reputation of horse racing' — over a seven month period in 2020. frost, who's one of britain's most successful female jockeys, said in a statement she would like to thank people for the support she's received, and that she'll take a few days to reflect on the outcome. the panel added it has real concerns about the weighing room culture in horse racing. practice for the season ending abu dhabi formula one grand prix will commence tomorrow with lewis hamilton and max verstappen both in the running to win the championship. the pair are level on points as they head into a winner takes all race, and the head of the red bull campaign says it will be a big deal if his team can beat mercedes to the title. this year up against the quality of opponents we have a mercedes, they've been a benchmark team the last seven years. nobody else is won in formula one for the last 11 years, between redbull and mercedes was up at the last seven in this hyper error they've been totally dominant. so to be at this final race, tied on points, it's a shoot—out between the two guys, it's exciting to be part of, it's an amazing thing for formula one. and i'm sure it's going to be one of the biggest if not the biggest sporting events of the year. staying with formula one where the abu dhabi grand prix will be staying on the calendar until at least 2030, after the country signed a new contract with f1 organisers. the race is one of four in the middle east, and will be the final race on the circuit for the next decade. the track has a reputation for dull races, but the layout has been tweaked ahead of this year's championship showdown — and it's anyone's guess which way it will go. we were in unmarked territory as a team. and obviously with the year that we've had, i'm sure so many people would've ruled us out being this close right at the end. so it's been an incredible group effort from everyone back at the factory and at the track. and no one's ever done eight before. after last year, i didn't have a lot of hope that we would be sitting here, you know, end of the season, fighting for a title, but i think, from the start, you know, we were very competitive, and we had some good results, a bit of bad luck as well, but, overall, we can be really proud of the whole team effort. you know, to be sitting here and fighting for this title. now to snooker and reigning champion mark selby has been knocked out of the scottish open, losing 4—3 to anthony mcgill. mcgilljoins ronnie o' sullivan in the quarter—finals after the six—time world champion came through a close match with welshmanjamiejones, eventually winning by 4 frames to 3. and from or you can head to the bbc sport website but that is all your support for now. and that's all the sport for now. hello again. we've got a big change in our weather patterns over the next couple of days as we replace chilly feeling weaher with weather that's going to become very mild indeed for december. a beautiful start to the day, we've had a number of the sunrise pictures sent to us this morning. the sunrise illuminating this cloud that's been moving ever sense. and this cloud will be bringing some rain our way followed by colder air, northwesterly winds pushing in on friday. that's good to be the last of the cooler days for a while. overnight tonight this band are rain does push its way eastward, quite slowly clearing away from east anglia and kent. what follows later in the night is a number of showers. some of those will be wintry into northwest scotland with some sleet and a little bit of hill snow. there will be a risk of some icy patches as temperatures dip down low enough to get some patches of frost. a chilly start to the day on friday but friday is a day of sunshine and showers. chilly northwesterly winds driving the showers through. again, a little bit of sleet or hill snow, in those showers across northern areas. those showers getting pushed across northwest england, north wales, down through the midlands and perhaps one of two reaching the far south of england. however, as we head into the weekend we get the winds changing to a south—westerly direction, increasingly dragging up mild air and pushing it northwards in eastwards across the uk. saturday, probably starting off on a murky note with some mist and fog patches around the hills across the southwest and probably around the coast. some rain around, quite heavy across western areas but the rain not amounting to much across eastern areas with a were starting to get signs of that milder air working in with temperatures 12 in plymouth, cardiff and belfast but still quite chilly around eastern scotland, eastern england, temperatures around six or seven. as we get into sunday those south—westerly winds extend further. could be quite strong winds that we have across parts of the far northwest of the uk with rain never far away here. a lot of cloud around but those temperatures will continue to climb, highs of 1a in cardiff, london and norwich. muchwarmer than it's been far this month, still something a little bit cooler across a very far north of scotland. even deep into next week will keep those mild weather conditions as we slowly get a little bit closer to christmas. welcome to newsday — reporting live from singapore — should i'm karishma vaswani. the headlines. guilty of faking a hate crime — a jury in chicago convicts the american actor — jussie
