The coronavirus pandemic has impacted nearly every facet of public life from public health to education to the local economy. But the one area that COVID-19 apparently hasn't infiltrated in Monroe County is the roads, according to Sgt. Brian Quinn, head of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division, despite some alleging that COVID-19 has either kept reckless drivers at home or caused internalized anger to be let out on the road. There were 19 fatal crashes that claimed 25 lives in Monroe County last year, not far off from the 16 deadly crashes that took 17 lives in 2019, according to annual data collected by The Monroe News.
