Former Mayor of Hexham Rad Hare stepping down after 17 years

Former Mayor of Hexham and town councillor Rad Hare attended his last council meeting last Monday (April 19), after he announced his intention to step down after 17 years. Coun Hare was first elected in 2005 to serve on Hexham Town Council, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, brother, and uncle. He said being the Mayor of Hexham in 2012, which coincided with the time of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics, was a great privilege. He added an important responsibility of Hexham Town Council is Remembrance Day, and said it was his privilege to lay a wreath at the War Memorial.

Mayor s vision of a brighter future for Northumberland town

Huge investment is planned for Hexham s old Bunker site. HEXHAM has a bright future with over £200m being invested in a multitude of exciting projects. That s the verdict of the town s Mayor, Coun. Bob Hull, who is determined to ensure the residents and businesses have much to look forward to beyond the coronavirus pandemic. Coun. Hull issued his rallying call at January s meeting of Hexham Town Council. The past year has seen bulldozers demolish some of Hexham s historic landmarks, including the old swimming pool on Gilesgate, the former council chamber at Prospect House, and the workhouse site on Corbridge Road.

COUNCILLORS are keen to involve Hexham residents in a major heritage scheme for the town in the new year. No less than £2.4m million is set to be invested in Hexham town centre when the Hexham High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) scheme gets under way. The initiative, which is backed by both Hexham Town Council and Northumberland County Council, will lead to four years worth of improvements to sites within the zone’s target areas of Priestpopple, Battle Hill and Cattle Market.
