Former Mayor of Hexham and town councillor Rad Hare attended his last council meeting last Monday (April 19), after he announced his intention to step down after 17 years. Coun Hare was first elected in 2005 to serve on Hexham Town Council, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, brother, and uncle. He said being the Mayor of Hexham in 2012, which coincided with the time of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics, was a great privilege. He added an important responsibility of Hexham Town Council is Remembrance Day, and said it was his privilege to lay a wreath at the War Memorial.

ONE of the Tyne Valley s historic landmarks is being brought to the heart of the coronavirus pandemic. The bandstand in Hexham s Sele was donated to the town by local woold merchant Henry Bell back in 1912. The much-loved structure underwent a refurbishment five years ago, and has continued to host bands and concerts. But with the latest lockdown now well under way, Hexham Town Council wants the bandstand to benefit residents in the district who are struggling with government restrictions. Town councillor and former Hexham Mayor, Coun. Rad Hare said people could use it a a sheltered, outdoor meeting place, provided numbers were limited and that social distancing was adhered to.
