Attorney: Cheboygan council violated the Open Meetings Act in city manager search

CHEBOYGAN After negotiations with the previous candidate for new Cheboygan City Manager fell through, the Cheboygan City Council members voted Feb. 9 to enter into negotiation with a new candidate.
Current Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice is planning on retiring from his position with the city in April. The original plan for the city was to have an assistant city manager in place by the end of November last year, to allow that person to shadow Eustice until his retirement, then step into the city manager position. After those plans ran into several snags, city officials are currently attempting to find the right person to fill Eustice s shoes when he retires.
