City creates obsolete property rehabilitation district, awards tax exemption

CHEBOYGAN At the July 13 meeting of the Cheboygan City Council, council members voted unanimously to create an obsolete property rehabilitation district and to award a 12 year tax abatement for 225 N. Main St.
The creation of the obsolete property rehabilitation district was made possible through Public Act 146 of 2000 and will be for the former Johnson s Studio building on North Main Street. The mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems in the building are obsolete and need to be completely upgraded. Essentially what we would be doing first is we d be setting the district and then we would approve the abatement, if that s what council decides to do, said Cheboygan City Clerk and Treasurer Bridget Brown.
City chooses Gabridge and Company for annual auditing services

CHEBOYGAN After putting the annual audit services for the City of Cheboygan out for competitive bids, city officials have made the decision to stay with Gabridge and Company for the auditing services. I had requested three proposals and the two that you have in front of you are the two that I received, said Cheboygan City Clerk and Treasurer Bridget Brown. We have used Gabridge and Company since I have been here, but I know for years prior to that and as you can see just based on cost alone Gabridge is certainly less expensive.
At the city council meeting Tuesday, the council members approved a contract with Wolverine Fireworks to have the city s fireworks display on the Fourth of July, at a cost of $7,000.

CHEBOYGAN The Cheboygan City Council at its Feb. 9 meeting scheduled two public hearings for the potential vacation of an alleyway and a portion of Benton Street for its March 9 meeting. We re going to set two public hearings, one for an alley, one for a street, said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. On property owned by Blaine and Allen LaVigne, which was rezoned to light industrial.
The LaVignes have the plan to construct individual storage units on the property. The property owners are requesting an abandonment of the street right of way on Benton Street north of State Street and west of Ball Street that has never been developed, but is still a part of Benton Street.
