City creates obsolete property rehabilitation district, awards tax exemption

CHEBOYGAN At the July 13 meeting of the Cheboygan City Council, council members voted unanimously to create an obsolete property rehabilitation district and to award a 12 year tax abatement for 225 N. Main St.
The creation of the obsolete property rehabilitation district was made possible through Public Act 146 of 2000 and will be for the former Johnson s Studio building on North Main Street. The mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems in the building are obsolete and need to be completely upgraded. Essentially what we would be doing first is we d be setting the district and then we would approve the abatement, if that s what council decides to do, said Cheboygan City Clerk and Treasurer Bridget Brown.

CHEBOYGAN After his visit to the City of Cheboygan over Mothers Day weekend, new Cheboygan City Manager Daniel Sabolsky is excited to come to Cheboygan and bring his family with him.
Current Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice who will be retiring in just over a month said when Sabolsky and his wife were in town, he met with Eustice, Cheboygan City Mayor Leslie Tebo, most of the city s staff and representatives from the Cheboygan Area Schools district. They were very pleased with our school system, compared to where they are in West Yellowstone, Montana, said Eustice. They have two boys that are in eighth grade and tenth grade right now. So they will be in ninth grade and eleventh grade in Cheboygan. And they were again, very happy with the types of programs that our school system has.
New city manager visits Cheboygan

CHEBOYGAN Daniel Sabolsky former town manager of West Yellowstone, Montana, who was chosen by the city council members to serve as the next Cheboygan City Manager made a visit to the city over Mothers Day weekend.
Current Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice said Sabolsky had signed the employment agreement with the city. In the agreement it states Sabolsky will start with the City of Cheboygan as the new city manager no later than June 1. He wants to make a visit, said Eustice.
Sabolsky and his wife had originally made plans to visit the city the last weekend in April but had found that plane tickets were half the cost if they waited for an additional week. The new city manager and his wife planned to be in the Cheboygan area at least Friday through Sunday, but had the option to stay until the following Monday.
