Border agents in Texas seized $4.6 million in methamphetamine and cocaine in two separate smuggling attempts across international crossing points last week, authorities said.
The first seizure occurred on May 5 at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a news release.
A 37-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck was singled out for a secondary inspection while trying to cross into McAllen, Texas. During an examination of the vehicle, agents found 94 packages of methamphetamine inside with the help of a canine team, CBP said.

HIDALGO, Texas US Customs and Border Protection (CDP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested an 18-year-old woman from Edinburg, Texas after detecting alleged methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle she was driving valued at $1,297,000.
“Young people getting involved in illicit activities such as these must realize that there are consequences that could possibly impact the rest of your life,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “CBP highly encourages everyone not to fall prey to these smuggling organizations who promise quick financial gains on their behalf.”

“These two interceptions of hard narcotics are the result of hard work and determination by our frontline officers to keep our borders safe. Narcotics interdiction is one of many disciplines within Field Operations’ multi-faceted border security mission,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
