No. 25 St. Mary’s Prep (MI) debuts in Blue Star Media Elite 25 boys’ rankings; No. 22 Patrick School (NJ) records last-second win over archrival
February 22, 2021
BENSALEM, Pa. For the latter portion of February this was a relatively quiet week. Usually, the boys’ basketball state playoffs are cranking or about to in some states. Last week, state champions were crowned in Virginia while Florida is at the regional stage, Texas tips this week with the bi-district playoffs, Georgia’s 32-team state brackets are stoked and Indiana starts with the four classifications of sectionals.
In less than a month, a majority of the states and teams from the Blue Star Media Elite 25 boys’ rankings will finish their seasons. The only teams that will be playing for keeps of the big prize are teams that participate in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference. Caedmon Bontrager, who started the season at Lakewood Park before transferring to Elevation Prep two weeks ago, scored 16 for the visitors.
CARMEL 43, CARROLL 34: At Carroll, Class 4A’s second-ranked Greyhounds emerged from a defensive struggle at the Charger Fieldhouse. Sam Strycker scored 16 for Carroll (15-4) and Jalen Jackson added 12.
HUNTERTOWN â Less suspense, more pictures.
Garrettâs wrestlers defended their sectional title by a point and a half over host Carroll last week, and were back to try for a second straight regional crown.
This time, the Railroaders put six wrestlers in championship matches and three more in consolations, and repeated as regional winners with 137 points, leaving the host Chargers behind with 103. Then came Leo at 98 ½ and Columbia City at 85.
That means two color team photos outside the Garrett gym, an honor reserved for teams that win regional championships.
âThey never hung up our last one,â Garrett coach Nick Kraus said. âOur athletic director, Chris DePew, told me last week, âGo out and win another one so we can put up two pictures at the same time.â Definitely some motivation to get back-to-back pictures on the school wall.â
High School Roundup: Homestead comes back to beat South Side in sectional finals
