Regional roundup: Carroll, Homestead to meet in finals VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette Homestead knocked out Noblesville 62-57 in the Class 4A Marion regional semifinal on Saturday.  Noblesville (21-4), which was ranked No. 7 in the IBCA coaches poll and No. 5 in the Class 4A AP poll, looked like it would fall in regulation when, down 48-47 with 17 seconds left to play, it took the Millers 12 seconds to foul the Spartans.  Spartan junior forward Ayanna Patterson hit the first free throw but missed the second, and Noblesville got the rebound. Sophomore Ashlynn Shade made a football-style pass from midcourt to a wide-open Kaitlyn Shoemaker under the basket, who tied the game at 49 at the buzzer to force overtime.

High School Roundup: Homestead comes back to beat South Side in sectional finals VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette South Side held Homestead to just nine points in the first half, but the Spartans shut down the Archers in the third quarter and did just enough to win 33-31 and claim the Class 4A Columbia City sectional title on Saturday night, Homestead s third straight sectional title and seventh in eight years.  Junior Ayanna Patterson scored 21 of her team s points, and the Spartans (18-5), who hit eight 3-pointers against Columbia City in the semifinals on Friday, hit just two of 11 attempts on Saturday and shot 26.7% from the field as a team.

High school roundup Angola advances to NECC tourney semis JOURNAL GAZETTE Playing its seventh game in 12 nights, Angola proved up to the challenge once again, knocking off Class 3A, No. 4 Garrett, 44-38, in Northeast Corner Conference tournament quarterfinal action Wednesday in Angola. Hanna Knoll paced three Hornets (12-3) in double figures with 17 points. Riley Pepple added 14 and Lauren Leach 10 for Angola, which has won all seven games in its recent stretch following a three-week layoff. Morgan Ostrowski finished with 15 points for the Railroaders (15-2), who lost for the first time in regulation this season. Angola will play host to Fairfield on Friday in one tournament semifinal matchup. The Falcons knocked off West Noble on Wednesday in Benton, 53-44.
